Nice hotel!
We checked in, and the staff upgraded our rooms to the TOP floor with the view of the Bay, amazing! And they were very nice about it all, gave us the Gov't rate, and they helped us find directions.
The most important part for me is the bed, which was VERY comfortable, and I had a great nights rest. I would definitely recommend the 11th floor to anyone. FREE INTERNET SERVICE is a plus!
There is a strong bleach smell when you walk in, due to the pool being open. And its really close to shopping, but the downside is that all of the shops close around 7pm during the week.
Courteous service, great decor and great price for the location and service we received. One can walk across the street to shopping, restaurants and movies. We loved the free internet service. Room was clean, light and comfortable with nice views of Berkeley Hills. A great find for the price we paid.
Nice location, the upgrade to the top floor is very nice also :) Clean. Only exception is when they said that they're out of pillows. How could a hotel be out of pillows? WTF!!!

This is the worst hotel in the area.
-They charge $9-$12. per day for parking, even for hotel guests. And they only have 2 handicap parking spaces for the entire hotel. All other hotels in the area offer free parking and about the same rates. In fact, the Hilton Garden Inn also has free wifi.
-The soda machines on each floor sell one soda for $2.50-a total rip off.
I would recommend that you avoid this hotel and use one of the other hotels in the area such as the Hilton Garden Inn, Four Points Sheraton, The Woodfin or even the DoubleTree in Berkeley Marina. Each is better than this Courtyard by Marriott.

Stayed here for a night a while back.
:: STAFF ::
The check-in staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They accommodated my complimentary upgrade. The staff we ran into later at night wasn't quite as knowledgeable of our room's layout when we had a question.
:: ROOM ::
Ended up staying in a 1 king bed suite. It was pretty spacious. The bedroom with the king bed was very big, the bathroom was decent sized, and the living room was quite spacious with a pull-out sofa bed, sink, microwave, desk, and chairs. The bed was really comfy as we were totally just kicking back in it. The suite itself was at the very end of the hall, so we had privacy.
Everything was rather clean except for the microwave which had dried up residual cheese- perhaps from a frozen pizza from the mini mart?
:: FOOD ::
There is a cafe and bar downstairs. There is also the 24 hr mini-mart.
:: PARKING ::
It is $9 a day, outdoor parking. It was actually pretty full that weekend, no idea why.
:: AMBIANCE ::
For some reason, the lobby AND elevators smell like chlorine. People just don't seem to like to towel off after leaving the pool. Seriously, and it was nearly winter time too.
The price is decent and the rooms are spacious. I'd stay here again if need be.

I agree with Christina and many others. This is a great location, across the street from tons of restaurants and other entertainment. (Movie theaters)
CLEAN, nice rooms, you can go south, north, east , or west on the highways right in front really easily. The sound proofing was pretty darn good. I'll be back to this place.

I have stayed here several times, the last time I stayed here was a few days ago. To start, the front desk staff was helpful and accomodated with me a later check-out time. However, the nice experience was over-powered by the very strong smell of bleach in the lobby...yuck.
The room was on the smaller side, my gripes are that the bathroom doesn't have a fan (how can I get ready with all that steam after a shower?), the toilet handle had to be held down or it wouldn't flush, and the TV was big and old. The bed was comfy and if we weren't on the 3rd floor right next to the freeway, the view would have been really nice looking at the bay.
Yeah, the new parking fee sucks, and they tack on a whole bunch of taxes to the bill. The plus side is the location, with shopping and restaurants and the movie theater.
Overall the hotel served it's purpose, this one is a decent one, but also has room to improve.
Came here for a 2 day seminar and let me just say that it was confusing to drive to. The multiple freeways you gotta get on and off and then once you've exited, actually driving to the hotel was problematic. I could see the top of the hotel that said "Courtyard" and drove in that direction but from the street view, the sign at the front entrance says Hertz. Yes, there's a sign in the parking lot, but the two different signs and the appearance of the main entrance made me think I was at the back entrance, when in fact, I was at the front.
Nevertheless, my seminar was held in Treasure Island A & B conference rooms (who comes up with the room names?) and it was enough space for all 54 of us. The Marriott staff was great in accommodating us. They provided us a light brekkie, multiple drinks, sodas and juices throughout the day as well as afternoon snacks. Both days they even provided pens at each table as well as memo pads that didn't say "To Do List" but "Accomplished List." Clever, eh?
They liked to keep the rooms warm though, both days the thermostat read into the mid 70s and we had to lower it. Parking validation was provided and the location was just across the street from Bay Street Mall and about a block away from TJs, Starbucks and other shops. In the lobby they have house-brewed Peet's coffee as well as a small Hertz rental office...hence the large Hertz sign outside.
3 stars since I only stayed in the conference rooms.

stayed here on my marriot points valentines day. decent hotel!
Good location, right off the freeway. Front desk helpful. rooms were comfortable. decent selection of the food mart open 24 hours.
NEGATIVE: $9.00 for parking!!!
I'd come back and stay again.
Stayed here with some friends on a Saturday night after some partying. Was upgraded to a suite because the friend who booked is a Marriott Elite Gold member, woohoo!
Inside the room was the biggest king bed I had ever seen. 3 of us comfortably fit onto there. Meanwhile in the living room, there was a pull-out couch with enough space for 2. The bathroom however was just your average hotel bathroom. No jacuzzi, no big counters, blah.
The room seemed pretty clean, until we opened the microwave and discovered remnants of cheese pizza from who knows when. Yuck!
Parking was $9 per night I believe, with in & out privileges.

Staying here right now, and so far I really like it.
I usually stay in the city and BART everywhere, but this time I decided to stay here and drive.
The hotel was much nicer than I was expecting, I am really picky about hotel rooms and I have no complaints about this one, which is rare, lol.
It's clean and comfy, convenient to everything, and the staff is very nice.
I was disappointed that there is a parking fee in the suburbs though, that is unusual, and it's a bit high, $9 a day. It's not like they pay someone to man a toll booth... it's automated, so it should be cheap, or free.
I would have given 5 stars if the parking was free.
Okay, I've never stayed here, but my relatives have and I have never heard anything but great things about the place. The staff was also super nice to my nieces who had the run of the indoor pool. The rooms facing the Bay actually do have some good views (if you're on a high enough floor).
My big reason for loving this place? The bar, silly! Yes, they have a bar and, more importantly, a superb bartender who has taken care of me on several occasions. Emeryville lacks a true watering hole (for the moment) and the bar here comes closest.
I took my son here recently for a sleepover along with a few of his friends. I figured that if something when wrong, we could pack up quickly and return to Albany (California) with minimum logistical complications.
Things worked out nicely and I think we managed not to bother anybody else too much. We rented a movie in the room (after I got snacks from Trader Joe's a block away). We hung out at the pool and then went over to Fuddruckers (at Baystreet just across the street) for the birthday dinner and celebration. After a few trips up and down the elevator, more TV, then bed, the buffet breakfast was enjoyed by all. We then checked out and within 15-20 minutes we were all home. What more could a bunch of 12 year old boys and 1 adult want? Well maybe a suite to spread out more....

We stayed in a suite here for our wedding weekend. Many hotels require a deposit on room blocks from the bride and groom. Since our wedding was relatively small this could have been a disaster if our full room block wasn't filled. Of the hotels we considered for guests near Berkeley that didn't follow this ridiculous policy, we chose three for room blocks for our guests: the Doubletree in Berkeley, the Hotel Durant in Berkeley, and the Courtyard Marriott. Of these, the Courtyard Marriott had a reputation as the best and has a great location across the street from the Bay Street shopping plaza.
Despite having most of our guests book rooms here, it wasn't enough for the husband and me to get a free room. Instead we got a suite at the regular room rate which was fine. However, we booked several months beforehand so we thought we'd have a better suite, higher up with a view of the Bay (especially since they knew it was our wedding night). Also, I would have thought they'd have some simple congratulatory touch in our room, but no.
The accommodations were fine if a little hotel chain sterile. The people who worked there all seemed nice, although some of our gift bags for out of town guests were misdelivered or not delivered as promised.
Still, it's the best option in Berkeley for the money (although that's actually not saying a lot). Except for maybe Gramma's Rose Garden Inn or Mary's B&B (both of which I haven't been to).

Comfortable Beds, Check.
Nice room- Check
HBO- Check
Tired me, after travelling and driving around-- Check
Food in the area-- Check
Located in Emeryville which seems to be the Bay area capitalism capitol, think P.F. Chang's, Barnes and Noble, Abercrombie, Gap, etc etc etc etc, in the neighborhood, is the courtyard, a nice hotel with decent rooms and a little snack area for food that saved Aaron at 1:00am when he had nowhere else to get food.
Staff was kind, amusing, and amiable, at 11:00 or 1:00 AM when I rolled into town.
Only drawback might be location, its located in the Maze, that hellish section of 880, 580, 80, and god knows how many other freeways just off the bay bridge its a little confusing getting there, and part south if you are not familiar with the area, add in some traffic light camera's and its a bit of trouble.
Breakfast buffet in the morning was pedestrian and extremely overpriced.

This is my hotel of choice when I travel to the Bay Area (my company's headquarters is in Oakland). The proximity to public transportation (BART and Emery-Go-Round) allows me to not have to rent a car and the free internet access is a big draw to me.
They have a nice breakfast buffet, but the one time I ate there, no one told me it was a buffet and I waited for a menu. Finally, one of my co-workers arrived and pointed this out to me. Boy did I feel dumb.
The staff is super-friendly, like Andi pointed out. The hotel is across the street from the Bay Street shopping area and there are plenty of choices in restaurants, there is a cupcake bakery, a Barnes and Noble and a movie theater.
On my most recent stay, I had a two night reservation, but due to some last minute changes, I was ready to go at at 7pm on the beginning of night number two. I was fully expecting to pay for the second night, but was pleasantly surprised when I was only charged for one night!
My companies negotiated rate just increased by $40, but the service, proximity to transportation and restaurants has won me over.
Update: I've started working out when at home, and so I'm trying to carry it over on the road. The hotel's gym is kind of weak and really needs improved air circulation. On the good side, for member's of the Marriott frequent ?stayers? club, they offer day passes to a new gym down the street. I've been here enough that the staff recognized me as a frequent customer and gave me some day passes.
My bf and I stayed here for the weekend during my two week business trip in the BA. This hotel has a great location in Emeryville, right by the Bay Bridge, so it's really convenient to get to the city. I love the fact that they have free Internet and an indoor pool/hot tub, which came in handy after walking around SF all day.
I stayed at this hotel soon after it opened around 2001 (if I remember correctly). and it was by far the nicest Courtyard hotel that I stayed in. It was one of the nicer hotels in that whole hotel segment (second tier business type hotels). Things are always nice once you first open so I may have a very small perspective.
There is mall just across the street with a movie theatre and it's very close to the highway. No complaints that I can remember.
I often stay here just as a small getaway and it's just wonderful. The staff is indeed very friendly, and the rooms are very clean and spacious. There is free internet access for those that bring laptops, and they have a biz center where you can check your emails etc. as well. A Few things to note... one, the entire hotel is non- smoking, so if you smoke, you will be taking it outside or paying a 275.00 room recovery fee. Two, breakfast is best suited elsewhere. Overpriced buffet style that's not very good. Also, no room service delivery is available at this hotel. You can order food in the evening, but you will have to go pick it up, or you can grab something in the snack shop. There are also a host of eateries across the street. But there is a pool, a sauna and a gym and the beds are so comfortable I seriously plan to duplicate in my own apartment.
This is a no frills hotel. The rooms were clean and it's convenient to Berkeley, Oakland and SF. If you like shopping it's just across the street from Bay Street Mall.
My boyfriend and I stayed here when we were both taking the Bar exam (boo to a grueling exam only to become (tah dah) a friggin' lawyer) and it was an ideal stay. The staff was super friendly, the room was very clean, and the place was super quiet. Room service was not tasty but at least it was prompt. Overall a great place with easy accessibility to all the restaurants in the shopping center across the way.
so i went to san francisco for work (boo to work) and i was totally like oh gosh whatever... work hotel... blah as long as i have a bed... the company paid for it (happy about that one!)... they had free internet access, nice rooms and a nice little bar next to the lobby- you better believe i took advantage of that! they even have a little market thing that is open 24 hours a day so when i got a little hungry at night i could snag a snack... the employees were all super friendly... they had breakfast but i didn't have time because i had to go to work which is seriously a bummer cause i love breakfast more than any other meal... it was a good hotel... would have liked it more if i wasn't there for work, but it was a great location and great amenities
