well, you get what you pay for...

so thanks to my last minute, indecisive significant other we ended up here for memorial. i can't complain too much at least it was cheap and i got double points as a rewards member. we were trying to go natural born killers style for the weekend and this is as close as i wanna get.

the room was super basic, as was the pool was (closes early too). The breakfast buffet SUCKS DONKEY BALLS, we both had tummy aches after forcing it down :( if you must, go the safe route, the do-it-yourself-waffles or cereal/fruit, leave eggs/meats alone!

other than that, it's alright for your basic super standard getaway.

So I stayed here while in town for Coachella.  The roomwas over priced, something like $250 a night when booked through http://hotels.com.  The reservation was exactly as stated.  The room was clean and fresh when we entered.  Standard feel to the room, two queen beds, side chair, desk, tv, drawers but I will say the bathroom felt decently large/ as well as the tub.

Cons?

The room had no fridge or microwave.  So instead the sink had to be the fridge.  The coffee pot burner became the microwave, along with the hair dryer.  Oh yes, we were that hungry and drunk, wanting to re heat food.

Our room was not cleaned.  The maid service came at 8:30, obviously we were not prepared to leave our room . . . . and said no thank you.  But we were out of the room by 11am and when we returned at 12am that night - everything was the same.  No towels, no fresh sheets nothing.  In the morning we had to call the desk, though they did promptly bring up more towels.  When alerting the front desk on check out though, they said they would normally give a discount but couldn't since we booked through a third party.

Other:
Nice lobby, large with seating and multiple coffees for free to amp up your veins.  Also, free cookies and apples.

Ice machines worked fine but ran out quickly.

10 minutes from Coachella.  About 20 from the Palm Springs Airport.

Right next to an Applebee's for easy food.

Ohh The Marriott.

I spent New Year's of 2002 here and well, it was quite the boring time. I don't know what the hell my then boyfriend and I were thinking of booking this place for New Year's but it was one of those, "Crap, it's 2 days before New Year's, what are we gonna do to celebrate our dysfunctional love in a forced setting for romance?!?! Ooooh, I know let's go the AAA offices in Los Feliz and see what cheapy deals we can get and just go wherever!!"

And so we headed out to Palm Desert; land of golfers, retirees and really tanned people in December (yeah, we blend). We checked into our room and it reminded me of what it might be like to stay in a sunflower for 3 days and 2 nights. Basically, I hated it. It seemed like  a craft fair exploded and there was waaaay toooo much yellow in the room. Haven't studies shown that yellow make you insane? Hmm, I grew up in a yellow room, might explain a few things!!

Once we got settled and finished arguing (hey, I told you, we were dysfunction junction), we left the room and forcefully held hands, ya know,  rigimortis style, and strolled the grounds (which were um, deserty?). This lasted us about 18 minutes. We then looked at all of the restaurants and the bars, another 4 minutes, and tried to decide where to go for our New Year's dinner. Pretty much everything was booked except for a 5:15pm slot at the sushi bar. Oh yay, Happy New Year.

By 5:50pm, we were done with dinner. Now what? Ummm, yeah, more fighting of course, that is a great way to waste an evening. I then suggested we just get drunk, because at least then I could laugh at him instead of wanting to smack him upside the head (I realize I sound harsh, but if you knew this guy and I together, you will know that not one person was upset when we broke up, it was more like the 'HELL YES!!! ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME' heard round the world)

After getting sufficiently wasted, we decided to go swimming. Always a very smart idea...especially since, I don't know how to swim. And so I hugged the edges of the (very large and pretty) pool while he laughed and made fun of me for not knowing how to swim, awwwhh, such a sweetheart. We then decided to take drunken photos of each other in somewhat sexy poses. Yeah. Those are always fun to pick up from Costco (pre-digital camera) and realize you look more like a train wreck than a 10.

The next day we figured we'd try their spa services, hey why not, right? It might just mellow us the f*ck out. Again, not so much. You see, he had booked the appointments and I thought he booked two females, since weird dudes touching me while I'm nekkid kinda rubs me the wrong way. Well, he didn't (cuz he knew it would piss me off), so I suffered through this :30 minute massage with Joe Prep and couldn't wait to get out of there.

And so back to the room we went and didn't really say much to each other for the rest of the day and night. Happy New Year!  We finally decided to just check out early since this whole trip was a bust and after we got back to LA, I don't think we spoke for a good week. We then ended up breaking up on Valentine's Day (how appropriate) and that my friends was my experience at the Palm Desert Marriott.

I wouldn't go back because of all the "sweet" memories I have here, but besides that it really wasn't all that cheap to stay here and the scene was...dead. However if you like that slow-paced Palm Springs lifestyle or wanna go golfing or like orange people then you might really like this place.
