For what it is, 4 stars.
This diner has fabulous 70s faux-chalet appeal and a pretty decent breakfast as well. You can't beat the breakfast specials at 5.15 and 6.15 apiece (eggs + bacon/sausage+ pancakes or potatoes and toast).
The service was fairly good as well. Nothing too fancy as far as menu choices go. I think I covered most of the breakfast menu except for the omelletes.
Expect a straightforward, no frills breakfast at a good price.
This place gives you a lot of food! The steak sandwich is awesome, enough for 2 people with the heaping amount of fries.
The line is out the door with a long wait at lunch time, get there at 11 am, if you can or expect a long wait.
I've been here at least a dozen times, never have finished all the fries. Huge menu, nice staff and a very good value for some artery clogging diner cooking. Awesome place, make sure you are hungry if you come here!
Great kitschy brunch place, conveniently near the Highway.
Graze under a tall yet cozy 'A' frame structure. Lots of dark wood and a long diner counter to eat at for those who don't want to shovel food facing another.
The 'go to' place to take a vacation from the diet.
Lots of hustle & bustle, *HUGE* tasty portions.
I enjoyed my veggie omelette (hold the cheese) very much. Comes with hash browns & toast.
Expect a wait during peak brunch times.
If you want to GRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUB for cheap and not have to subject yourself to a cheap hit or miss buffet, roll up to Country Way.
Trucker stop, huge no frills portions.
Everything tasted as expected. I decided to order the Corn Beef Hash to try something different, and thank God every other side was a meal in itself because I could only take two bites of the mush called hash. The bacon is mad thick and crispy and the linguica is nicely grilled and juicy.
Diet Coke served in a massive cup, extra star for principle.
have been coming here for years.
service is fast, coffee is always available, although not always strong enough.
they make a mean corned beef hash. get that with eggs over easy, some hash browns, and i'm one happy person.
ketchup and tabasco are already on the table so you don't have to ask for it. it's hard to leave this place still hungry.
Get here early folks - there's gonna be a line!
I'm not a morning person but I've been cursed with loving breakfast food more than other types of food. Thankfully the Country Way serves breakfast food when I'm finally awake!
You can't go wrong with anything here. French toast, pancakes, eggs, it's all delicious. Oh - and FAST! Even if you have to wait 20 minutes to get a seat, your food will be out in less than 15 minutes. (I used to time it and sometimes it was out within 8-12 mins.)
If for some reason I didn't eat breakfoost food, I recall the patty melt being equally awesome. Diner style, yummy, cheap food with fast service? What more could one ask for?!
The broiled chicken is (hard to believe) as good as Strizzi's and probably about 5 dollars cheaper.
I enjoy the garden omelettes, the spanish omelettes
Service is cheerful, efficient and attentive about 97% of the time.
For quantity of food, prices are reasonable.
If you want some wholesome, hearty amazing breakfast plates, Country Way is the way to go! I've tried their different kinds of omelets and I must say they are so tasty! I call it comfort food breakfast style. I can never finish the plate on its own or else it's food coma for me and my whole day is shot sitting around watching the day pass on by.
Service is great here which gives it a star up for me. Good food, great service, prices are reasonable for the portions they give you. Come with your significant other, the family, or a group of friends... It's that kind of environment.
SWMBO's mom loves this place.
I can eat for three days with the take home portions of the meals here.
The coffee sucks, but hey.... I can eat for three days for 6 bucks. !!!Woot!!!
I am defin a fan of this place especially for breakfast. I been here once but todays experience was much better then the first. Since it was Saturday morning it was packed. We had to wait about 15 20 minutes for a table. After we were seated we were brought 2 glasses of water and our waitress took our order and before we knew it our food was in front of us. I guess u gotta get'em in and get'em out. The food was delicious and fresh. I think they cook a huge amount of bacon and sausage but since there so busy its fresh when it comes out. The only thing they would have to cook is the eggs. I saw tons of toast already to go on plates. Overall the food was awesome and the prices werent too bad. Minus one star since the people at the front werent very friendly.
They have the absolute hands-down best french toast I've ever had! The french toast halves are like little triangles of light, puffy funnel cake covered with powdered sugar. They also have an amazing BLT sandwich with at least two inches of piled bacon in it...mmm! The BLT is particularly delicious when you are a pregnant recovering vegetarian.
Also, their service rocks - super fast and friendly . The only bummer is that their a cash only joint, unless they've changed that recently.
Holy cow. After eating Afghani and Indian during my weekend stay in Fremont this was the icing on the hilarious cake. We showed up for brunch. Three of us got breakfast (pancakes or french toast) and the fourth person got lunch (grilled chicken sammich). The french fries were A+, steak fry style. Everyone was happy although the strawberry topped pancake/french toast getters were unhappy that the whipped cream wasn't mentioned on the menu. Nonetheless, after getting scrapped off onto the coffee saucers they were both happy. Only other comment from the same two was their dishes were a bit too sweet. I got the blueberry pancakes and thought the sweetness to be just right.
The decor of this place is a sight to be seen.
Oh, and the coffee server was relentless. He would not give up trying to refill our cups numerous times. Needless to say, because of that, I drank too much coffee.
I approach this triangular shaped restaurant with some hesitation. We walk in, and everything changes. Everyone is smiling warm and cozy feeling of times long lost seem to permeate. Nuff said...
The service was great, the food was great, the service was great, the coffee was Mill Stone and it was great, our waitress was a spunky hot little number (Maria) who admitted that she really liked her job and the food was perfect. I have to say, the most perfect eggs over medium I have ever had. By the way, this was the best breakfast ever and it was at 8:30 PM on a Thursday. Whoa!
We spoke with one of the owners, Ted and had a great time. Let him know how happy we were. He assured us that they have been there for 30 years and will be around for another 30+ years.
I WILL BE BACK!
LOVE IT!
PS - I have uploaded a picture of my perfect eggs if you are curious.
PPS - Maria is hot and spunky. If I was single, I would hit on her. :)
Good stuff. Typical diner fair, nice little family/friends owned joint. The waitresses are older ladies who are very pleasant, and the food is huge portions of high cholesterol, greasy, off the griddle quick food. But that's what you love about diners, right?
It's a little on the expensive side but you get what you pay for. No way you can eat a whole dish and still be hungry.
Some of my recommendations would be - If you get breakfast, get a side of bacon. It's sooo good, and it's huge. They give you 4 slices but it's so long it's practically 8 slices. Delicious!
Also had the patty melt which I absolutely loved. The fries were just meh steak fries but the patty melt itself was to die for. I'll be coming back for that no doubt.
And yes, it's busy.
Oh also they have daily/weekly specials. A+ overall - Definitely beats any chain breakfast spot and many of the diners (Flames, Omega) in the South Bay.
I've been here four times and its always such a turn on! Everything I've ordered is HUGE... enough to feed me for days! The best thing on the menu is definitely the Grilled Pork Chop breakfast with two eggs and hash!!!
The last time I was here my car was parked by their dumpster along the side of the restaurant. As I walked back to my car I saw 2 workers dumping some type of liquid in the trash. After their dump session they went back in through the backdoor and I enjoyed my cigarette in front of my car. I noticed that whatever it was they poured into the trash splashed all over the hood, front windshield and whole left side of my ride! The liquid splashes turned into lard-like spots!!!! OMG it was oil drying up all over my 100% freshly hand-washed car! I was pissed! I went to the front desk and asked to speak with the manager. I didn't show any anger I just wanted to suggest that they might want to put a sign up and not let cars park in the space next to the dumpster. The manager asked me how much I usually pay for a car wash. I told her I just got it washed TODAY for $24. She gave me $24 in cash and genuinely apologized. I was pretty surprised. Yeah, shit happens... but when situations like this happen, shit really doesn't seem like "shit." LOL
I have been going to this restaurant since the 60's and it is soooooo gooooood. My favorite is the cheesburger on french bread (HUGE) and the steak fries. They offer soup or salad with this monster burger too! Alot of food so please be very hungry if you want to enjoy this meal. Service is as good now as it was when I was a kid.
Signed,
Very pleased
So I've lived in the Tri-City area (Fremont, Newark, Union City) for 21 years now and have never been to Country Way until this morning. The hubby and kids had been but me...never. We park and walk in and were immediately seated. A weird looking interior that seems to have stopped the hands of time. A guy comes and takes our drink orders and another lady come a short time later to take our food orders. The food arrives so fast I don't think I blinked! The hubby orders the corned beef hash and eggs, my daughter the kids pancake and my son a #7 which is fried cheese stick with french fries. I order a breakfast special consisting of two pancakes, bacon and scrabbled eggs. Everything was delicious and the portions were huge! This place is great and only charges $1.85 for things from the kids menu.
Definately will be back and wonder why the heck it took so long for me to try.
So I woke up one Saturday morning and realized I was awake just in time for breakfast.. It was noon. But I was really craving some breakfast.. I actually wanted some waffles. I remember my sister had recommended this breakfast place, which i thought would be similar to the Original House of Pancakes with their millions of selections of breakfast items.
First I have to say, the building looks like an angry house (kind of cartoonish) but when you get inside it actually has this country woodsy kind of feeling. There was one wall that looked like it could be a backdrop for Christmas cards or for winter photos. Anyways I'm digressing..
I will admit I was a little disappointed to find out they only serve French Toast and Pancakes. But they do serve a wide variety of eggs and meats, as well as tons of selections for lunch and dinner. As I looked over the menu, my disappointment started fading because their were so many choices I didn't know if I wanted breakfast anymore or if I should have lunch (it was already 2pm by the time we got here).. My ultra supportive boyfriend who loves food as much as I do said we can have both.. we'll just split it. So in the end I ordered: Strawberry French Toast, a Pastrami Sandwich that comes with a side of Minestrone Soup and steak fries, and their hot chocolate. My boyfriend ended up ordering an omelet and coffee. So my review:
Hot Chocolate: Like any other hot chocolate that comes from one of those automated machines. Nothing spectacular.
Minestrone Soup: THIS WAS THE START OF A FABULOUS BRUNCH!! Usually minestrone soup is water downed, that I usually ask for sour cream or milk to add some texture to it. This was the first time I left it as is.. This one was creamy and filled with tons and tons of vegetables. It was savory and not too salty. And I must add usually at restaurants when it comes with soup, I never finish the soup and just eat the meal.. first time that I ate the whole cup and would've asked more if I knew I didn't order as much as I did.
Strawberry French Toast- DELICIOUS!! They actually didn't even look like French Toast to me, but they were covered in ooey gooey strawberry and whip cream. It hit the spot for my waffle craving.
Pastrami Sandwich- This hit the lunch craving spot. It was filled with meat.. the bread wasn't too oily or buttery (I think restaurants usually toast the bread on the grill/stove). The cheese was just melting with meat. I could only eat half of it since it was so filling. But I looked forward to eating the other half for a snack before dinner! haha.
Omelet- It was delicious, it had a kick to it. Although he did add some tobasco sauce but their was a sausage in their that really spiced it up a notch. I only had a bite but he seemed quite satisfied with it.
Coffee- Nothing spectacular, just like the Hot Chocolate. It was just brewed coffee nothing special. My boyfriend had three cups so it couldn't be that bad.
Overall, We were seated right away, the waitress was really nice and helpful and let us take our time in ordering, the food came out really fast, and they even let us sit there for a few hours just talking. Ambience was relaxing and this is a nice place to come if you want good variety. This is the place!
I wasn't sure whether to give this place 3 stars, or only 2. I went with 3 stars, because the waitress was pretty friendly.
Good things: portion sizes (2 or even 3 meals worth), food quality, speed with which the food arrived, attentiveness of service (coffee cups and water glasses never remained empty for more than a few seconds).
Bad things: the front door staff. There's a lady and a rather large gentleman (though he's dressed like a waiter) standing at a counter which contains menus and the cash register. Even though this counter is directly in your path as you enter the restaurant, the lady focuses solely on the cash register. She does not acknowledge anyone who tries to speak to her. She takes checks, rings them up, provides change, but I don't think she made eye contact with a single person. The gentleman standing behind her yells out names on the waiting list, but also does not acknowledge anyone who tries to speak to him.
Apparently, you're supposed to write your own name on the list. That would be fine, but there were no signs to that effect and the guy never said anything to me (even though I looked him in the eye and asked if I could have my name added to the list). The list was turned in his direction and he was holding a pencil, so it seemed like asking him was the right thing to do. Just then, someone more familiar with the establishment than me walked up and turned the list towards herself and just wrote her name on the list...oh, is THAT what you're supposed to do? Thanks for telling me, dude! Sorry to interrupt your self-induced trance with my bothersome question.
The front door staff should be greeting people in a somewhat friendly manner, not ignoring them. You can tell by looking at the staff dynamics that these people have been working there a long time, and are very set in their ways. You'd think that they would be pretty good at acknowledging a customer as they walked in.
"Hi, how many people in your group? Ok, and your name? It'll be about XX minutes." There. Was that really so hard?
Way too crowded on the weekends, and the servers are often confused. The French toast is novel because they deep fry it, but otherwise the food is unremarkable.
Large groups are seated a huge round tables where you can't hear the person across from you, and if you speak loudly enough to reach them, you're also yelling in the face of someone at the next table. Grr!
One more gripe: the last time I went, an owner or manager was hanging out behind the bar, scrutinizing all the workers, getting in the way, and making them uncomfortable.
The pictures on yelp didn't lie! Huge portions, and cheap prices. What else can you ask for? I ordered the special.. which was tri-tip and eggs. It also came with hash browns, and toast for just $9.95!!! This portion was big enough to fill up 2 people, no joke. I do plan to come back here to try out the rest of their stuff. I'd give it 2 more stars if they could be open 24 hours and take take denny's out of business! LOL
So this is one of the worst places that I've been to eat in terms of the service. The food was so-so - nothing to complain about.
I just finished having my b'fast and was sitting around and reading a book for about 15 minutes followed by another 1/2 hour of just listening to music. I'd put down a $20 on the table after eating to pay for my food (bill came to $11.80). I would expect that it wouldn't be a problem if I stuck around to continue reading or just listening to my iPod. The restaurant was not crowded and there were at least 3 other empty tables in my waitress' area.
The waitress came by a couple of times to check if I was okay and I told her I was done and didn't need anything else.
I was taken aback when she came by a third time and said "You can't sleep here, Sir." I wasn't sure I heard her right - I had my eyes closed and was enjoying the music (L Sub's Moscow concert), so I asked her to repeat herself. Yep, I'd heard right. She asked me to leave saying that I couldn't sleep there. Why would I sleep there? I lived no more that about 3 miles from the place. If I wanted to sleep, I'd have gone home.
I headed to the counter, paid my bill and asked for the manager. A big swarthy guy comes by and claims that folks were saying that I was falling asleep at the booth. Ridiculous! "Which folks?", I asked to which he started being vague and took up a rather aggressive stance, first coming a little closer as though to intimidate me and then when I didn't back down and politely informed him that I was shaking my head to the music and hadn't fallen asleep, he changed his tune completely. He claimed he was not the manager and that I should take it up with the waitress that had asked me to leave. He started shuffling away saying that there was no manager at the place at the time.
I've been scouting various diners in the Fremont area looking for one to make my regular place.
Country Way The Original is definitely off my list.
My recommendation is to simply not bother going to this joint. Like I said earlier, the food is nothing to rave about (standard fare), but the poor service makes this a place to avoid. There are much better places in the neighborhood where the service is substantially higher quality.
This was an interesting stop for chicken fried steak.
I wasn't really planning on getting the CFS as it was hot and a bit heavy for what I was in the mood for, but I thought I'd try it anyway...... interesting..... this was probably the closest to a steak that I've ever had and it be called CFS. Maybe the cut of meat they used was a bit leaner, it wasn't breaded as much, and it was also a bit thicker than usual too.... Most of the time it's just pounded out to a look and feel of hamburger battered and deep fried... this one wasn't quite like that.
It came lightning fast.... wasn't able to sub biscuit for bread. The eggs were a little overdone. Very healthy portions..... when it came down to it, I basically halved the meal and at the remainder the next morning for another heavy breakfast.
This place was really busy... even at almost 10:00 there was a wait for us of about 10 minutes, and we were a small party of 2+ the little girl.
Not a bad place at all.... but not necessarily something that I'd say I'd go through a wait for in the future.
Okay - we gave this place another shot. It was hard not to, after reading so many positive reviews of this place... But our opinion hasn't really changed, even after trying the famous deep fried french toast. My 9-year-old stepdaughter commented that it tasted like "funnel cake" of the sort you get at one of those temporary small circuses that blow into town. My husband agreed, commenting that it was like eating a gigantic doughnut. I had the french toast as well, and I couldn't do more than just nibble at a corner - it was just too fatty for me really.... not greasy per se - but too heavy for french toast. We had a side order of a hamburger patty as well - and it was a little odd... huge, granted - but a little unusual and a little too greasy. My oldest stepdaughter (age 11) commented that she was surprised that they had "nothing fresh". We had tried to order a banana for my 14 month old and the waitress commented that they had no fresh fruit and had "nothing fresh" - and that the only fruit they had in the house was canned peaches. That in of itself, spoke volumes, we thought... a restaurant that has "nothing fresh"... huh... Coming from an area that sported restaurants that took pride in serving locally grown and organic meats, fruits and veggies (we're not from around here and only just moved here) - it's really weird to stumble across a place that serves "nothing fresh". It's like taking a time machine back to the days when ketchup was declared a vegetable by the current president and small diners severed everything either from the grill or from a can, save for the salad which came prepackaged in a bag. (The "nothing fresh" claim by our waitress made me wonder what their salads would be like...)
On the positive side - I can say that the service was fast - really fast. I have to grant them that. And the portions are indeed super-huge - but that's only helpful if you are really bent on taking the stuff home or else have the appetite of an entire rugby team. For our family - none of us much felt like taking the leftovers home - since none of us really were that thrilled with our breakfasts to really want to have it again later....
One other positive thing I can say is that aside from the huge portions - the prices are pretty good. So if you do have a HUGE gang of family members coming by - it might be worth it to stop here for a quick breakfast or lunch. But if everyone in your party has a normal-sized appetite, I would suggest ordering everything family-style and just plan on sharing plates. One order of the french toast can feed three people or maybe four - depending...
But despite the winning combination of "huge portions, low prices and fast service" - all great positives, I'll grant you - we probably won't be frequenting The Country Way - the Original... because the food quality just isn't up to what we're used to... and we can frankly make better at home. I know that's usually the case - most people can make better at home than the average restaurant - but in this case, the food isn't at the level of the worse we can make at home... so it hardly seems worth it to pay someone else to serve us food we don't really care for, despite it being fast, cheap and coming in large quantities.

Okay - I don't know what to make of this place and I may have something better to say later on. But… Read more »
I live in San Diego now, and yes I've been to 30 or 40 better diners that do breakfast (Cafe on Park in San Diego, CJ's in Seattle, Fred 62 in Los Feliz), and yes if I enjoyed scraping pans I probably could toss up a better omelet than Country Way, but I've been coming to Country Way for 20 years, and every time I'm in Fremont I make a habit of always going back to the place that started my fervid love affair with HIGH-VOLUME breakfast.
I love this place more out of heart-felt sentiment than taste. I remember when I looked at the menu when I was 10 years old and asked my mother, "Mom this omelet says it has Linguica in it. What's that?", and her reply being, "Oh Ben, don't eat that. It's fatty and not good for you." Of course four minutes later I was stuffing down fork-fulls of greasy, spicy Linguica morsels into my mouth.
I also love the fact that 20 years later the same waiters, manager, and busboys are still working there. In this economy that says something about an establishment, obviously the influx of patrons helps as well(this place is packed to the walls almost every time I go in).
The bottom line is this: The food is economical, good and in HUGE portions. Did I mention the HUGE HUGE portions, if I came here every day of my life for the past 20 years my heart would be pumping pure canola oil and I would be wearing expectant mother pants with elastic band in front.
Regardless, check it out if you're in town, get the Linguica Omelet and make sure you ask the waitress to make your hash browns EXTRA crispy!
Number 203, guess I'll have to bite the bullet falling short on that mark.
Coming back to the Bay Area, I've had an urge to try an abundance of spots. This is one of the fortunate places considering I was in the area locally after helping one of my best friends with some house work. Good ol St. Nick and his wonderful lady Ms. Nightmare wanted me to go here since their food is awesome and at a reasonable price.
After skimming the location on Yelp, and approaching the novelty of an enormous western triangle roof, I knew I was in for a ride. We were seated promptly by a friendly Filipina waitress. Looking around it's as if Texas was smacked dab four freeway exits away from my friend's house. All the people inside seemed to fit the whole western theme, big families, big portions, and big appetites.
After browsing through the menu this is what I ordered:
-1 order of a Breakfast Special of Coulette Steak and Eggs (3 of them) with peaches, sourdough toast, and special fresh baked bread and butter.
Apparently this place serves their own baked bread as an appetizer and it was pretty moist and refreshing. Didn't really add the butter because I feel my entire meal would be artery filled already. The peaches were a nice substitute to the baked potatoes and vegetables that could have been added. Sourdough toast was decent, nothing special like most breakfast places I've been to. The eggs were cooked to perfection considering I noticed a lot of places usually overcook the yolk.
One of their highly acclaimed specialties are the Coulette Steak and for Fremont locals and returning customers apparently it's filing and worth while seeing as their cuts are as juicy and tender as it comes. The meat was cooked at medium and there was just enough pink to keep the meat enticing to my carnivorous tongue with each slice. After the meal, I still had enough left over and considering their portions one meal can literally feed you for the whole day (unless you got a huge appetite like many Yelpers).
Overall, for my share of the bill it costs with tax and tip about $17.00 bucks (not including the rest of the orders that my friends purchased and my lack of recollection). Decent service, can be a lot better but they were busy so I supposed they get somewhat of a pass. As for a perfect rating, there wasn't anything that really stood out for me to appreciate. Thanks to Country Way and Mr. and Miss N and N, for making my breakfast brunch worthwhile out in Fremont!
Thanks to yelp, my friends and I stopped by this restaurant for some brunch. We were seated right away, even though the restaurant was pretty crowded. We got our waters and coffee, and proceeded to look over the menu.
I ended up ordering the 1 lb pork steak special, which came with toast, potatoes, 2 eggs, and an absolutely delicious grilled t-bone pork steak for $10.45. WOW... the pork was marinated so well: nice, tender, a little fatty, and juicy. One of my friends ordered a veggie omelet which was HUGE, and the other ordered french toast special. Both around $8. I tried some of my friend's french toast and it was also awesome, I'd definitely order it next time I go. Totally worth it! Service was good, our waitress came back to check up on us often, and my friend's coffee cup was always refilled.
We kinda sat at our table for a while before realizing we had to go up front to pay. Oops! And luckily, they take credit cards.
Looking for breakfast in Fremont and found this on Yelp.
Coffee: taste like water, the worst coffee I ever had in restaurants
French toast: taste great. I definitely will get this again.
Pork chop: good for the price. It was the cheapest among our 3 orders.
Harsh brown: below average
Eggs: ok
I like Cabrillo Park Café more than this one for breakfast/brunch in Fremont area.
In a state of daze and confusion brought on by a strenuous morning hike, my friend and I stumbled into Country Way tired and famished.
After climbing Mission Peak at four in the morning and an ensuing nap, the two of us decided to give this place the good 'ol college try. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs (because I believe this is the barometer for great breakfast places) and my friend, tired with the unsatisfying, crappy IHOP and Denny's omelettes offered this breakfast staple one more chance to win him over.
Neither of us were disappointed.
Upon minutes of the waitress taking our orders, it seemed like she had found a way to wheelbarrow our orders on to the table. No, this was not the actual sight, but our stomachs sure felt like it afterwards. Our waitress served up two enormous plates of food that had our jaws dropping. Seriously, I think that each plate could have fed two people easily. Water cups always full, coffee pots flowing, and no long faces. They don't joke around here.
The country fried steak oddly tasted like a pan-fried hamburger patty, but hey I'm not going to discriminate when it was really that good. Moist on the inside, and crisp on the out, I scarfed down that mountain of meat like my life depended on it, occasionally stopping to catch my breath and stuff my mouth with eggs and hash browns.
We came. We ate. We went into an awesome sleep coma.
After much debate, my hubby and I decided to pay Country Way a visit. I read fantastic things about the Coulette Steak, so I had to get it! I ordered mine with mushrooms and did not regret it. A nice size of steak, this was defiantly yummy! The sides I got were a minestrone soup which tasted very homey, mashed potatoes with gravy, and a salad. I liked everything on my plate, but I think I would go for the baked potato next time. I also ordered my steak medium but received it well done .. which wasn't that much of a big deal because it was so good anyways. The steak had a smokey flavor so I'm thinking it was grilled. We will be coming back here for this steak again.
My hubby's meal however, no such a hit. Which is funny, considering that he always get's something that I want in every other situation. He ordered the hot turkey open faced sandwich, which turned out to be glorified deli on bread with gravy. Maybe the turkey was fresh? But it didn't seem like it was.
All in all a miss for the turkey ... but what a find for the steak! I have a lot of leftovers and could have split between both of us!
4 stars because the steak was/is that good! I need to come here for breakfast someday, they looked like they also know what to do in that department.
Now... this place is on the cusp of 4 stars for me first of all... but I have to give it a 3 due to how crazy crowded it was, and the fact that I felt a little rushed. I mean... I get being a busy breakfast place but I do not get the like soup nazi-esque manager guy at the check in stand... I know, that is cryptic so I shall explain...
First, you have to have your ENTIRE party there before they will seat you. If not everyone is there and they call your name... you have to put it in again and wait for another table to open up (annoying)
Second, if your entire party is there and you don't hear your name called... over the LOUD, PACKED noise in the room... you will be reprimanded by the undfriendly manager guy that is more like the soup nazi from Seinfeld but with seating arrangements instead of soup
Third, the food is good but not the best breakfast place ever. It is yummy, homemade-y goodness that is remicent of an old granny style cooking with lard type food . If you are having a carnal craving for loads of carbs, cheese, bacon and syrup... this is the place. Portions are gigantic... and you will feel glutoneous... but who cares, you only live once right?
So... overall... 4 stars for food... 2 stars for service... average out to 3 stars in my head at least :)
Enjoy the glutony!
Simple down home breakfasts, friendly wait staff & a breakfast special keep me coming back. We've been regulars here for years, always a great breakfast for a great price. My favorite is the House Special (weekdays before 11 am), over easy, sausage & sourdough. Don't forget the house made salsa. YUM!
I haven't been in for anything but breakfast...yet.
This place gets a two thumbs up. It rocks. Great food. Inexpensive. Huge portions. Fast service. Every time I come here I only wait about 10 minutes max. That's with every seat filled. The staff is great very fast and friendly. They remembered us after only a few visits. My baby loves the mashed potatoes. Parking Is Always A Bit Hard. its so worth it.
As good as it gets is right!!! This place is just awesome. Breakfast is just number one! The "Hot Pastrami" is deliciouso and baraboomboom! The "Hamburger Steak" along with the vegetable is really tasty... it gets crowded so you have to go early and just have to be patient.
My FAVORITE spot for brunch! Once you sit down, you should just ask for a to-go box just to get it out of the way. The portions are gimongulous and you're a fool if you think you can tackle the entire plate (unless you're a beast). Then, I bow down to you.
Always check out the specials - they never disappoint. The French toast here is the best French toast I've ever had in my life. It's like a super secret special kind of bread they use. Whatever is it, it's all sorts of ooey gooey deliciousness. My favorite dish is the italian sausage & mozarella omlette. It's a lil bit too cheesy at times, but it's soooooo good, I forget that I'm lactose intolerant.
Service here can be slow at time depending how busy it is. If you come on a Saturday or Sunday morning, chances are, it's gonna be PACKED. If you have a small party, try sitting at the counter. Not only is it first come, first serve, you get your food withing 5-10 minutes as opposed to 20. Prices are super affordable and I love the old-fashioned dner feel to this place. Feels like hoooome.
this place would have earned 4 stars if there weren't lipstick on both sides of my coffee mug, which was given to me turned upside down (was that to disguise a dirty dish?)..
i didn't like one of the servers or is it called a runner? he was some young lad who looked either confused or stoned. after waitress placed mug down, and this young lad walked by, i flagged him down to let him know i'd like a different mug because this one had lipstick on BOTH sides. he nonchalantly said, "oh." and walked away.
after that, i didn't know if i could trust the place??
but then my waitress was soooo on top of things (minus the coffee mug situation), the food was served super hot (which meant there could be no bacteria because it was all well cooked right?), and anyway the breakfast was DELICIOUS.
pancakes and country style hash browns were sooo good i felt like every bite put me on cloud 9. either that, or i was really hungry since i felt too sick to eat the entire day before.
oh, the only other thing i didn't like was the radio station music played. i hated having to hear the "ninety six point five - kaayyy - ooohhh - eyyyyye - teeeeee" radio station promotion song blaring over me while i was trying to enjoy a breakfast..
oh, and don't put the coffee mug too close to your hands when that confused, stoned looking young lad is refilling your coffee mug. he almost scorched my hands refilling.
TOLD YA HE'S EITHER ON CRACK ON THE JOB OR JUST PLAIN DAZED AND CONFUSED!*^%#!
If you want to stuff yourself with goodness like omelet and other breakfast dishes, this is the place to go. Surely, dishes are a little more expensive than other traditional American breakfast places I've been to, and the portion is a little more than what you can comfortably finish, but the quality of food is very competitive.
I took my friend here after finding this place via Yelp in a hope that she'd like this sort of brunch. When I got there, there were almost a dozen of people waiting outside. I realized why they did that once I got inside; the entrance area was small, and the air was kinda stuffy. Thankfully, while we were told to wait for 15 minutes, the counter seats vacated quicker. Good that we didn't stay outside for too long.
The counter seat space was small, but adequate for two Asians. I felt kinda bad for one large-sized couple next to us though. The seat had less cushion than I wanted, so I had to shift around a bit during the whole time. Also, my friend hung a backpack on chair, but with me being more cautious, I tried to put mine on feet area with some difficulty due to space constraint.
Thankfully the food was something that helped me forget these kinds of inconvenience. Grapefruit juice tasted like... grapefruit (hey, you'd be surprised some places serve sugar-added one). Pancakes were huge, even from me who's seen a lot of them in the States compared to the ones in Japan. Without syrup, they were not as sweet as I thought, but it tasted almost like buttery bread. And that matched well with bacon and over-easy eggs. My friend had an omelet which was rich and creamy. Maybe too rich for her, she couldn't finish that large mass of egg and cream. It'd be nice if this place serves a half-sized omelet.
So all in all, this place made my friend happy of which I was aiming. There were a few reservations, but they were outshined by good parts. When I ever want to surprise Japanese friends or those who've never eaten American traditional style breakfast, this place will be one of top places for me to take.
one of the few breakfast places left in fremont. I haven't been here in a while, but from what I remember it is pretty decent.
We over-ordered. Tsk tsk...even after looking at the pictures and reading the reviews on Yelp, we totally over-ordered.
They have a specials from 7am-11am on M-F. For $7.15, you get two eggs, 2 bacon/sausage/or ham, toast, hash browns...and something else that I've forgotten...
The french toast special is also well worth it! It was some GOOD stuff...and definitely not the use of your regular bread for the toast.
In addition to our gigantic plates of breakfast, we ordered chili cheese fries ($4.55). A heaping plate full...piled high with fries, chili, onions, and cheese. Yeah....no where close to finishing it off.
Gotta come back and try the early bird dinner specials!!!
If you are trying to watch your weight or keep an eye on your figure this is NOT the place for you. However, if you've been working out and eating well and want a splurge day, then please check out Country Way.
The decor reminded me of some hole-in-the-wall place in Lake Tahoe - very country like, thick wooden walls, logs as part of the decor, etc...
The food is basic American fare - no frills, nothing fancy, just really good food. I had the veggie omelet sans cheese, with sourdough toast and home potatoes. Oh my word was it tasty, but HUGE! I ate about 1/3of it and had to bag the rest.
My fiance was going to get three pancakes and an egg, but our waitress was kind enough to show us a special they had which included: 2 pancakes, eggs and a side of protein (ham, bacon or sausage) for $3.00 less then ordering things separately.
Service was fast and friendly.
I would go back, but not for a while as I'd like to drop a few lbs before ingesting this delicious diner fare!
