Location is right at the foot of the sanibel bridge!  Fresh baked cookies in the lobby continuously   = ]     Upgraded to a suite for additional $20!  Very reasonable, comfortable and clean.

I found this place using Hotwire's lodging lottery, where you pick a price and a location and they choose your hotel. What's fun is that you never quite know where you're going to end up, but the idea is that you find somewhere quickly within your price range.

Country Inns and Suites is more like an upmarket motel than a hotel. It's about 15 mins drive from Fort Myers Beach and about the same to Sanibel Island, so the location is decent if you have a car. It's certainly clean, the staff are friendly (by New York standards, not really by Florida standards), the rooms are fairly large (I got two queen beds for my $90 a night), TV is standard cable and there is complimentary breakfast (coffee, cereal, gargantuan waffles and sugared fruit etc). There is also a fitness room and a pool, which are never occupied.

On the down side, there is no where to eat, no bar or nearby shops that are within walking distance. So if you want a drink after a hard day's lounging on the beach, you'll need to drive to the local Walmart (8 miles away) and buy a bottle of Cab Sauv to sneak into your room. The alternative is a designated driver to ferry your party to one of the beach bars, which are 7 or 8 miles away.

Some other points of note: the water runs cold in the showers after precisely 3 mins and 12 seconds, but the wifi is fairly well behaved (good enough to stream Netflix on my iPad). The 'kitchen' is limited to a tiny microwave, and don't eat the cookies in the lobby, they're at children's height and have probably been pawed a few times before you get your molars on them.

Overall, not bad. You wouldn't choose this place deliberately, but if you get it in a lucky dip, you'll know you could have done a lot worse.
