This is some of the best hiking I have found so far.  Granted I have only been to a couple places, but this place is great!  We went on a Saturday afternoon and hiked for about 6 miles.  We only saw maybe 10 people.

We started at the licorice fern trail head, a very secluded one.  We then had to cross a fairly large street and did go (it felt like) in peoples back yards.  But after crossing the main road you have multiple trails to choose from.

If you are looking for a secluded hike, this is the one.

I didn't know Yelp reviewed trails.  Maybe it shouldn't.  While this park was nice, be clear that it is city hiking.  There are houses right up to the border of the trails, and in general it just didn't feel like full nature.  If you drive only 10 more minutes down I-90 you will be in true nature.

The lookout point at the anti-aircraft peak trailhead was the best part and is worth visiting - great place for a picnic.

I love that Seattle has so many urban trails. When it's 2:30pm and you're just now getting on with your outdoor adventure, Cougar Mountain is a great choice for gearing up for hiking season. We did 7.5 miles, climbed 1,000 feet in elevation - a couple of times - and felt secluded for the most part, until we saw some rooftops and backyards at the end. And if you are moving fast, it's a great workout!
The top isn't really anything to shout about, but it has great Cold War history (thanks Philip Seymour Hoffman's twin). Grab a map at the trail head; there are tons of ways to tour the area, and once you're in the maze you'll want to just wander. And after the sun goes down, maps are very helpful in getting back in the dark.

What could be better than an entire park and mountain devoted to wild, eager cougars on the prowl?  I'm always game for a good mauling.  What's that you say, wrong type of cougars?  Oh.  Well...then nevermind.

Great trails, great hike. Planned on doing about 5 miles and we hoofed 7.5 miles instead. I loved the Quarry and Aircraft trails. A lot of green on these two...ferns, evergreens, moss...gorgeous. Top of Cougar doesn't reveal a lot of sights, so there is not a huge pay off when you reach the top, but it is a good workout...about a 1,000 foot climb. Somewhat secluded, passed some other hikers here and there and offered a friendly "hello." Sometimes felt like we were in someone's backyard when you could see their house and property line. Overall a great way to get out of the city and hit some trails mid-afternoon.

The park covers more than 3,000 acres!

Cougar Mountain has more than 36 miles of trails for hiking, and over 12 miles for equestrians. Cougar Mountain Park was established, in part, as a sanctuary for native plants and animals. As such, no bicycles are allowed on the trails and dogs are required to be on a leash, although I see many dogs not on a leash. Wonderful wetlands, meadows, forests, and a few waterfalls.

Go and see  red alder, big leaf maple, Sitka spruce, western red cedar, Douglas fir and western hemlock mingle with a variety of shrubs and ferns! as well as coyotes, bobcats, cougars, bears, Pileated woodpeckers, red-eyed vireos, great blue herons, and warblers can all be seen.

Great opportunity for all to easily enjoy some outdoors.

This place is b-e-a-utiful.  What was originally intended to be a three mile hike becae a 7 mile hike because I was captured by nature's beauty.  Every place your head turns, you become enraptured by the sights, sound and smell of nature.  We saw a GIANT owl, bear claw marks and a cougar footprint!  How cool is that!!!! (well, it's cool because we didn't get mauled or anything.)  The trail is relatively hard so you get  a work out!  As Borat would say, "very nice."

If you have a few hours to kill, go to cougar mountain and walk along the trail.  It's fantastic!

Love this place! Me and boy go up here every once in a while on a nice day to explore a new trail. There is so much to see! The first time we came, we saw one of the abandoned mining caves. We tossed a few rocks in and had a little snack. During that trip, we only saw maybe two or three other groups. There is plenty of room to find your own private little area to chill and hike. This last time, there were a lot more people. I think we were on the Military Road trail or the Red Towne trail... or we jumped trails at some point. I don't know. Anyhow, all the trails so far have been so much fun! We always look forwad to coming here and recommend it to our friends all the time as a great place to get lost for a little while.
