Cotton Belt really deserves 4 1/2 stars from me... but I just *couldn't* give it 5. To be honest though, this has by far been my favorite barbecue in Texas :D GREAT hot links and brisket, plus they serve black-eyed peas :D Black-eyed peas! One of my favorites, and I was able to scarf to my heart's delight. Also, their fries aren't just normal french fries - they're super tasty potato wedges, cooked to order. I could go on and on about how much I loved the food, but I'll leave it alone and instead say that their sauce is reeeeally tasty, too :D

Disappointing. I should just leave it at that, but I hate it when other people do it. I like to know why.
I had read a number of positive reviews and suggested to hubby that we stop in for dinner on the way home after running a late errand. We like BBQ, after all.
We both ordered a chopped brisket sandwich plate. I had it with black eyed peas and green beans; hubby had it with black eyed peas and fried okra. We both had a Shiner Bock. On the positive side, the sides were good and were a generous portion. The green beans were a little on the salty side, but nothing too terrible. And the beer was nice and cold. Unfortunately the chopped brisket was terrible. How can that be at a BBQ joint, you ask? To start with, the brisket had been chopped beyond recognition - it was way too fine. But that wouldn't have been too terrible if the meat had had any flavor. It was watery tasting and bland - no smoke flavor came through that I could detect. Maybe chopped brisket isn't their specialty or maybe this is a better place to eat on the weekends when they cook more meat, but this stuff was very disappointing. I even tried to add some flavor with BBQ sauce and sliced onions from the condiment bar. This didn't work either. Their BBQ sauce (they have 2 kinds - spicy and mild) has no flavor either. And I used the spicy!
The sides might have given this place a '3' rating from me, but was dragged down by their employees. Talk about unfriendly. We were standing there perusing the menu at the counter (no one was behind us) and one of the staff asked what kind of meat we wanted. When we said that this was our first time there and we were looking at the menu to decide, the guy just looked at us like we were from another planet or something. And we were only looking at the menu for less than 2 minutes before we did order. No smiles, no how are you doing, nothing. I don't expect idle chit-chat, but some semblance of a greeting would have been nice. As far as the restaurant itself, I know it's supposed to have that 'rustic' look and feel, but it looked dingy and seemed less than clean somehow (I'm not saying that it was dirty or anything, it just kinda seemed that way). Maybe this place is better on the weekends with the live music and with ten too many beers.

Awesome BBQ and a fun place to eat! My favorite BBQ in the metroplex.
Upon walking in you are greeted with a giant container of peanuts for munching while you wait. The choices include the standard bbq fare, but the smoked chicken and sliced brisket is my favorite.
I've only been there during the day, but they do have bands on Friday and Saturday and an awesome patio area outside. It looks like it would be a nice place to hang and check out country music (if you like that kind of thing).
