I had (am still having, I guess) a wonderful experience with this place. When my transmission went out a couple months ago, I had just been through a LOT of personal stuff and it was the absolute last thing that I needed. One of my coworkers has been here a couple times and recommended that I call Jack, the main guy here.
Jack is wonderful...he's very friendly, funny, and willing to help in any way that he can. It took a little while for the tow truck guy to find my car in the labyrinth that is the parking garage at my work, but they somehow managed to get it out with all the other cars there! They called the next day with an estimate and details of the problem, then gave me a chance to talk around to see if the quote was reasonable. The repairs were done less than a week later.
This is the best part for me, though...they take payments. Even if it was a tad more expensive than other places (I've never had transmission problems before, so I can't compare rates), I don't mind too much because I didn't have to cough up a large sum of money that I didn't have access to without selling an organ...or other things. Also, my car has been missing a window button almost since I got it. When I brought my car to Cottman's for the 10 day check up, one of the service guys put a new one in for me for free! He said that he had an extra one!
Also, this is a chain place and they have a nationwide guarantee on their work. You just have to carry your paperwork with you and if there's any problems take it to the nearest Cottman's or other authorized place and you're good to go!!!
Too bad my entire minuscule tax return is going to them, though...car problems suck!!!
