Oh my god. Oh my god.

The Dirt Bombs, yes - yes. Cinnamony-sugary-nutmegy goodness swirled into and sprinkled on top of a cakey muffin? Of course! The Morning Glory muffins? Oh, my heavens. You feel like you're eating something that might be good for you, because it's bran muffin-like and there are carrots and raisins in them, but they're too moist, too scrumptious to be healthful.

Every year My Dad gets My Mother a carrot cake from Cottage Street because they're her favorite, and because, well, they're the best around. The cream cheese frosting is actually light and fluffy with a hint of sweetness rather than dense and sugary, like most turn out to be. The cake itself is absolutely sinful - perfectly spiced, with just enough carrots, raisins and nuts to give it texture.

Go here for your pastries when you're in the Orleans area - they're the best in town by far.

After reading these other reviews I'm tempted to not even mention the dirt bombs. Clearly the word is out. But that would be pointless contrariness. Don't think you're being all cool by getting something else. Get a dirt bomb AND something else. The bike path is right there, you can easily do cardio penance for your indulgence if you're that kind of killjoy. (I rode there from Provincetown on Route 6 and the bike path, then sat on a bus for an hour-plus in kill-me-now traffic to get back and it was worth it.)

Got a couple of bombs to go on Sunday morning and ate them two and a half days after they were baked: Still moist (MMM, BUTTER) and delicious. I will also vouch for the mint buttercream brownie. It's particularly nice for Second Breakfast.

The owner, Marc, is also a super-sweet guy whose French accent has been kinda corrupted by living on the East Coast for I'm-not-sure-how-long, which is pretty adorable. You'd probably starve to death if you refused to do business at any food service establishment owned by a jerk, but I always like to know who the good guys are, and Marc is for sure one of them.

"Dirt bomb" is also just really fun to say, and reminds me that I always meant to start a band just so I could call it "The Dirty Bombs" because that's a great name, right?

We keep finding ourselves back here buying pastries... This time we tried dirt bombs of course...  some fancy brownies that would actually make an elegant dessert....chocolate chip cookies... A turnover.... A blueberry scone... It was all good.

We laughed because when we got in the car we set our bag of dirt bombs down on a canvas bag... By the time we got home there was a big butter stain seeping through onto the canvas bag already.

Its very, very, very good. Great selection of homemade goodness - from cookies to pies to brownies and bars and cakes and croissants and wow. Lots of things to choose from!

Dirt Bomb - it is very nutmeggy, so be sure you like nutmeg! I was expecting it to be the same as the Donut Muffins (from Sweet Bites in Acton), but the nutmeg makes it very different. Delicious nonetheless.

Lemon bar and some kinda kitchen-sink-candy-brownie deal were both terrific.. only slight let down was the cookies were kind of bland. Not bad, in any fashion, just not as good as the rest. Will be back for the pies!

Right there in town, at the junction of 6A and the 28, this cutesy bakery is SOO much more than a nghbrhd bakery---pie shop, soups, bisques, cookies, tarts, muffins, tarts---

Lovely little country charm...customer service could have been a wee bit warmer, as we were out-of-towners trying to decide what to get for our dessert this evening.

Decided upon purchasing a beautiful four-berry pie for $20 for the family, as well as a few fresh fluffy muffins for breakfast in the A.M. Quaint, understated bakery..down-home.

Just less than a min's drive away from the Nauset lobster pool and seafood market...totally ready for a stellar sit-down meal at our vacation unit.

After reading the reviews, I had to try the Dirt Bomb muffin and boy was it good! Just wish I got more to bring home. It left a delicious cinnamon -buttery taste in my mouth, I didn't want to eat or drink anything after that would take the taste away.

Our first 5 star on Cape Cod. The lunch sandwiches are AWESOME DELICIOUS. Even the kids eat every bite - which says a lot!!! Found the place thru fellow Yelp reviewers. And, yes, da bomb (a coffee cake muffin covered in cinnamin) is GREAT!

    Cool, hidden-gem of a bakery.

The bakery is located on Route 28, a little south of 6A in Orleans. Driving here is a little confusing. You take route 28 north to get to the bakery, but Route 28 north actually moves in a southward direction here.

The bakery is in a building behind the Ice Cream Cafe.

They also sell bread here. The Portuguese bread looks very good.

They sell something called a "dirt bomb". It's basically a muffin that's been moistened with butter and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. I didn't think it tasted much like butter or cinnamon.

The chocolate chip cookies are extremely buttery. If you like buttery chocolate then these are for you.

The peanut butter cookies were very good.

They also had this vanilla wafer cookie with almonds. I couldn't taste either the vanilla or the almonds very well. I think I would have liked it more if they used almond extract instead of vanilla extract.

There's plenty to choose from, including brownies and cakes.

Great little place.  We stopped on our way to Provincetown.  Read all the Yelp reviews and had to give it a try.  We visited in May, when it was not as busy as normal. The sandwiches we ordered were great.  Very fresh, homemade and delicious.  They hit the spot. We got the dirtbomb and some other pastries to go.  The dirtbomb was too sweet for my taste, but if you are a dessert person, then you found your calling in this.

We enjoyed our sandwiches on the front porch and really enjoyed our time.

So as we were walking leaving the Christmas Tree Shop I noticed this tiny bakery.  Even though we were stuffed from lunch, I begged my BF if we could go here.  I had never heard of this place before.

I had a Dirt Bomb, which is probably the "it" thing on the menu.  I wanted to try everything!! The staff was really nice and they weren't pushy at all like some bakeries can be.

    Definitely will be returning here.

    FYI, the Dirt Bomb? Amazing.

Dirtbomb.  That's all you need to know. Well, I guess you should also know that it will take you hours to recover from eating butter molded into the shape of a muffin but you will not regret it one bit.

Many of the other baked goods are also great, offering a variety of muffins, danish, and the like. They also have limited breakfast sandwich options (several cheeses, croissant or bread, diced ham as the only breakfast meat?) but that's not really what you come here for.

The one major knock and the main reason for my review is the service. I understand this establishment is very busy a majority of the time, but certain things (restocking the coffee when it's empty) take some time to be done which is surprising given all the staff it seems they have on hand.

I also understand that dealing with that many people day in and day out can be trying, but that does not mean you should be rude to your customers. My friend was waiting inside for his order for quite some time, and when the woman came out with the first part of it she gave it to another gentleman who had literally just ordered.

After some discussion, he detailed his order just to make sure she had it clearly and all she could muster was an annoyed "Yeah, I know." Thanks for the apology!

The Dirtbombs will keep me coming back, but a little more friendliness would go a long way on their service.

Cottage Street Bakery is an institution -- my family has been coming here for years in order to satisfy our craving for yummy breakfasts while on the Cape.  As lifelong devotees, we naturally have the house cookbook, though we can never seem to replicate the muffins at home -- must be something in the salt air.

Don't miss the cranberry almond poppyseed muffins, the exquisite palmiers, and, if you are more waistline-conscious, the excellent peach-date-granola low-fat muffins, a personal favorite of mine.

Cottage Street Bakery has gained a new fan in yours truly. I have returned twice, and have liked what I've been seeing. Maybe its because summer has passed (with the obnoxious summer crowd who congregate there) and I had more time to appreciate Cottage Street. Had a delicious almond cream danish thing that was amazing, and tried another seasonal muffin (apple crunch) which was just okay. Either way, their unique offerings and tasty items will keep me coming back for more.

My friend introduced me to this place and it has become one of my favorite bakeries and a must-go-to place whenever I'm on the cape. Their croissants are heavenly...flaky, buttery and melt in your mouth. Their "dirt-bomb" muffin which are basically doughnut muffins are messy but so so good. Get there early as the croissants tend to sell out before the end of business hours. I'm not sure if they are open year round as I've only come here during the summer months but regardless, this is definitely a place to pop into and grab something sweet or baked on your way to other parts of the cape.

Delish muffins, great homemade bread.  Long lines in summer, but worth it.  That dirt bomb muffin as a cinnamon-buttery-deliciousness in action.

I've been going here since I was a little kid at the Orleans Cardinals baseball camp (I got a hit off Nomar Garciaparra, NBD). I absolutely love the muffins here. If you can get there early enough in the morning, nothing beats a fresh-out-the-oven warm muffin.

My love for this place has even earned me the nickname "Muffin Matty."

This place is amazing. Like James L, I highly recommend the Dirt Bombs-- they are the stars of the show at this amazing little bakery...donut-muffin-sugar-cinnamon-butter-treats . When you get them you have to eat them right away, while they're warm...practically orgasmic. Everything else here is delish too-- you can't really go wrong.

My appetite only allowed me to sample one treat during my recent visit Cottage Street: The Dirtbomb. Imagine a sugared cider donut, partly saturated with melted butter and presented in muffin form. Like its name implies, The Dirtbomb is down and dirty; a baked bomb of savory delight.

On the Cape for a wedding, the bride recommended Cottage Street.  DO NOT MISS the Dirtbombs!!!!!!!  They dirtbombs are like a cinnamon crumb cake with nutmeg and then rolled in butter.  MMMMMMM.  The egg sandwiches that we had for breakfast were also very good.  When in Rome do as the Romans do and when on the Cape do as the Codders do.  IE Do not miss Cottage Street Bakery for Breakfast, desert or any baked goods.

It is as good as it gets.  My goodness can there be anything more delicious than the famous, scrumptious, finger licking good "dirt bomb!"  Cinnamon, butter, moisture, sugar and perfection all in the shape of a muffin.  Put a couple of these little guys in a bag and you know it's good as the butter starts to moisten and shine the paper bag.  Damn I hope my doctor is not a fan of Yelp.  The coffee is so good and a very nice selection.  But just don't go here for breakfast goodies........also go for lunch and enjoy there fresh soups that change daily or the unique sandwiches made with their own bread.  Then wash these down with a chocolate chip cookie.  I'm not allowed here anymore by the way.  I can only have an apple after a summer of too many visits.

This is the real deal. A real bakery that has muffins and pies in the country manner and stunning pastries that could compete with anything in Paris. Get a van and fill it with the dirt bombs,(their signature muffin), Let's say they have an unlimited budget for butter and use little restraint. Julia would smile in her grave. Did I mention they have six kInds of brownies. You get the picture... I'm gonna rip my to go bags now. Happy Labor d

The sweets in this place are surprisingly delicious. The bread they make is very good as well. While mainly a dessert place, there are some good looking sandwiches and omelettes on the menu. The only drawback is that they seem to sell out quickly - and what was here one day may be gone the next. This place is one of the highlights of Orleans for me.
