This place was fine.   I like Spruce Grove Cabins in S. Lake Tahoe better just because the rooms are bigger and there's a hot tub.  Cottage Inn was quaint , super cozy, and decor that would make my mother orgasm.  They serve breakfast which is also a plus but the day we were there breakfast was kinda weird:  chicken pot pie.

I'd certainly go here again.

Good things about this hotel:

1) Beautiful grounds, well maintained.

2) Serves you breakfast every morning and has an open coffee bar all day.

3) Free wine (apparently) from 6 pm to 8 pm, no comment on the quality.

4) Hot tub on the the balcony.

Bad Things:

1) Breakfast, while free, wasn't really very good.  Ahem.  I do believe that the woman cooking was working really hard so I feel a tad bad about calling her out, but it must be said.  The second morning's breakfast was pretty close to inedible.  My advice, just stick with scrambled eggs, toast and a fruit dish.

2) No back up roll of Toilet paper in the bathroom.  Ok so if I'm paying you $280.00/night, you are supplying me with ample toilet paper, one should not have to resort to using all of the Kleenex and/or paper towels in the place when one may or may not have a tummy problem.

3) Hot tub does not get that hot, it's like taking a bath in a big tepid pool, of well, tepidness.

4) No one is on site after 9 pm, so if you've got a problem, you've got a problem.

5) We brought some DVD's to watch, problem?!  No DVD player, still stuck in VHS.  Seriously people, you can get a DVD player for like, um, $40 at Costo, invest.

All in all this place was satisfactory.  I know it's the high season, so we may have just paid the price for the weather, but the our stay left a little to be desired.  The staff seems genuine so they get a star for that, but the touches one expects for the large price tag just weren't present.  Three Stars!!  Also, avoid Bit of Bavaria if you are going to be in your room at all during the day, it's a cave, which is depressing considering your location.

I 2nd the first review, though I guess I'm a bit more price sensitive so on a price to value ratio I thought way overpriced for what you get.

The cottage was stuck somewhere in another time- ours had fake pine boughs all over it and two geese stuck on the wall- kitsch in a bad way.  all the flowers you see in the room & dining area are fake- hello this is tahoe just bag 'em, imo.  very wintery theme but I was just there in summertime

The bed was small and uncomfortable.
Breakfast was bad  both days- coffee is weak & bad.
The rules rule here- there are lots to comply with and lots of stiff penalties.

Bottom line:

It was fine.  I did feel too expensive for what was offered.  I would not return.
