12 reviews for Cottage Grove Inn
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Before we moved to the Bay Area, my wife and I looked into taking a weekend trip to Wine Country in order to celebrate another year of marital bliss. Another year in which we managed not to smother each other in our sleep. You have got to celebrate those kind of milestones.
We wanted someplace a little off the beaten path. Something nice. Something un-pretentious. Un-pretentious in Wine Country can be a little hard to come by, no matter where you look.
We found everything we wanted and more at Cottage Grove Inn. You actually get your own separate cottage which means lots of privacy. No shared walls which means lots of quiet. Our cottage was amazing. The king-sized bed was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever had the privilege of sleeping in. Fireplace, huge tub, large porch with rocking chairs, TVs, DVD players(along with a great movie library), sitting room... Everything you could possibly want for a nice romantic weekend.
Next to the office is a gathering room where they host a wine and cheese hour during mid-afternoon. Great touch, but if you been winery-hopping all day, more wine when you get back may feel just be too much. You would think you couldn't get tired of wine, but spend a couple days drinking it all day long...
The staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. There are certain time restrictions as far as minimum nights you have to stay on the weekend. Two nights at least, if I remember correctly. Which really shouldn't bother you because you really wouldn't want to check out after one night.
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Cottage Grove Inn this passed weekend and really really enjoyed it. We heard about it from my cousin and his fiancee who just absolutely love the place - so we took them with us! We stayed one night - which is absolutely not enough but it was so gorgeous, private, peaceful and relaxing...
The service from the beginning was impeccable and unlike anything else - upon making our reservation the informed us of the wine and cheese buffet that happened from 5-7 pm and told us if we were not going to be able to make it to let them know and they would kindly put some in our room for us. Upon checking in they handed up a lovely packet of materials that had maps, winery listings and even things that they offered to their guests (i.e. massages in the room, complimentary bikes to use for the day).
The wine and cheese buffet was excellent, it included about 10 different cheeses and a bunch of different crackers with about 7 different wine selections (red and white). It was really fresh and extremely yummy. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and SO clean and organized. Personalized notes in the room - really make you feel like they thought about your stay there.
Breakfast was so great - the service was amazing. The wonderful ladies that worked the breakfast service offered us a fresh waffle and/or quiche and then even brought them out to our table outside (with all the trimmings)! Fruit, juice, coffee, tea - you name it. They also had oatmeal, cereal with fresh bananas. It was just wonderful.
I know that the price is up there- but even for one night (and a splurge) it is an amazing place to go - relax - and enjoy time with you special someone.
My husband and I just returned from the Cottage Grove Inn, where we stayed in Cottage #10 ~ The Gardner's Cottage. Although the price was a bit high for our budget... we decided to give it a shot, to celebrate our anniversary. What a great place!
The staff was very friendly, and accommodating. They showed warm hospitality with a smile. Every staff member we encountered was genuinely kind!
The room was lovely - and exceptionally clean. Comfortable bed, huge jacuzzi for two (including bath salts and candles), his and her sinks, Wireless Internet, VERY comfy chairs by the fireplace, lovely porch with rockers, mini fridge, Music, DVD player, flat screen TV... even a soft, warm throw blanket. They had a picnic basket, cruiser bikes with locks and helmets, games, DVDs, books, wonderful wine and cheese, and a delightful breakfast... ALL included!
We liked the location of cottages 10-14, best. Nice afternoon sun on the porch. We enjoyed our little cottage so much - we didn't want to go out to dinner... we simply picked up some fruits and snacks at the market, and ate in both nights! And after a relaxing soak in your private jacuzzi... no need to spend extra on a massage (though they DO offer that if you want - and I hear its GREAT).
All and all - we had a great time... and would absolutely return! I highly recommend it.
This was our second visit here and when we're in the wine country, we'll always stay here.
We have tried the Library cottage in the past and this time picked the Nautical cottage. As you can see by my posted pictures, the cottage was bright and cozy. I loved the ambiance of the room, it was refreshing and relaxing.
The amenities of the the Cottage Grove Inn are spectacular; from the Wine and Cheese hour to the high thread count sheets and the fabulous staff.
I highly recommend the Cottage Grove Inn to anyone going to the wine country.
A lovely place to stay in Calistoga, i felt very special.
Ditto what everyone else has said...cute, comfy, friendly, wine, cheese, jacuzzi, fireplace, classical music, porch and rocking chairs.
My personal yelp additions not to be missed are Schwinn cruisers (free loaners) and afternoon chocolate chip cookies.
I had bought a gift certificate at a silent auction last year for Cottage Grove Inn and finally went last month.
To give you a little background, the man and I had gotten the gift certificate intending to make a trip to Calistoga at some point, but then he decided he needed to find himself and the gift certificate was going to expire and I had no one to go with and refused to let it go to waste, so decided to invite my sis and have a nice girls day in Calistoga.
The day we went was rainy and unpleasant, so we checked in right at 3:00pm. It was fast, easy, and our room was definitely ready for us. We had Cottage #11, I believe - the Travelers cottage. It was SO nice! I liked the location. There's a parking space for your car right in front of your cottage. There's rockers on the front porch. HUGE, super comfy king sized bed with high thread count sheets. Wireless internet available in your cabin, or you could use the computer in the gift shop. Fireplace in every cabin, although we decided not to risk burning the place down. Gigantic bathroom with a two person jacuzzi tub and double sinks. Great amenities. We decided to just walk to nearby Cal-Mart and pick up some food and we brought it back to the cabin to have dinner. We also stopped by the wine and cheese hour (bring your tray if you're going to eat in your room!) and picked up some food. It was super yum! They also have tons of DVDs to choose from to watch in-room. We decided to get Mamma Mia! and had a lot of fun singing and dancing along with the movie in our cabin. The included breakfast is really good too. Great choice of food. They make huge waffles fresh for you and even smoothies with whatever you want in them.
My only complaint was our shower was really wonky. It would have nice, hot water for a couple minutes and then all of a sudden turn freezing cold for a couple minutes before it would turn hot again. It was definitely not pleasant, but was a surefire way to wake me up in the morning. The general manager sent out an email to check to make sure everything was fine a couple days after and I wrote her back and told her about the shower, so that was pretty cool.
If I could afford it, I'd visit this place again in an instant!
For the price, you would expect a bit more somethin-somethin', but hey, it's not like it's a fancy-schmancy hotel. We're talking cottages here people.
I have had the privilege of staying here twice. You can read from the other reviews about the theme-y cottages, the "happy hour" and all the amenities offered. My favorite part of the cottage experience is the 2-person jet tub. It is so freakin huge. Right next to the tub is a window overlooking the sitting area and fireplace. Right across from the sitting area is the comfy bed. I like how private the cottages are and how you would totally think that you're alone until the next day when you see a few people at breakfast in the main house. One night, we skipped out on the nearby dining options (lots in walking distance) and just had an indoor picnic. Kinda romantic.
Yes, I would definitely come back here again, but at $350/night, I might have to forgo a couple of new pairs of shoes.
Perfect for the cold season.. The cottages are charming. We stayed in the Tuscany cottage, the interior was decorated with pieces from Tuscany. The fireplace was the perfect touch, it's a gas fireplace - they place firewood outside of your cottage for convenience. In the bathroom there's a 2 person jacuzzi tub, on top is a candle and complementary lavender bath salts. The king sized bed is very comfy!
From 5-7 there's wine and cheese hour in the guest room. It's soo cozy, fire in the fireplace while you enjoy a lovely glass of white/red wine with a wonderful assortment of cheese.
In the morning they have complementary breakfast. The spread includes cereal (3 different kinds), pastries, fresh fruit, waffles made upon request, fresh orangle juice.. and your choice of java (cappuccino, expresso, or just regular coffee)
Although we enjoyed our stay along with the amenities we thought it was a bit pricey .. $350ish a night.. I would have given it 5 stars had the price been in the $250 range. Will we come back? hmm maybe, but it's definitely an experience so I must recommend it..
I have stayed here 3 times now, beginning almost 12 years ago when they first opened. Our recent stay was nice, but the Inn has gotten expensive. The amenities are excellent--in room coffee (the good stuff)-- a wine and cheese hour, etc. Breakfast is fresh fruit, pastries, and waffles-- a little protein would be nice (eggs, something)... The cottages are still quite nice, though the one we were in felt a bit worn for the money. Calistoga is a great place to stay and, if I could visit this Inn again for a bit less $, I'd probably return.
100% dreamy! A row of cottages with individual "themes" nestled on a side street at the end of the commercial strip of downtown Calistoga.
King size super comfy bed, hot tub, shower, bar-entertainment center with sink, fridge, coffee pot and tv/vcr/dvd technologies, fireplace, writing desk, front porch, lounge chairs, ceiling fan and dual bathroom sinks. They host a wine and cheese happy hour and continental breakfast with delicious fresh fruit and pastries.
Pretty pricey, so save up and go for it!! or get a gift certificate from amazing friends, like we did.
Adorable. A friend and I had a fun girls' weekend here and we stayed here and loved it. There are about a dozen little cabins, so you have tons of privacy, and they are very sweetly decorated. The morning breakfast, including waffles made to order, was wonderful, and they also have a wine and cheese hour around 5pm. The bed was so cozy, and they have a great selection of (free) DVDs to check-out. They also have free internet connection in the cabins, but you probably won't want to check your email. I can't wait to go back with my husband some time!
From the road this place looks kind of ordinary...however, once your enter the individual cottages - they are awesome! Killer comfy beds, huge tubs that you can just relax w/a glass of wine in....perfect.
I'm doing minus one star for service because the people working there were just kind of average. You have these fun, plush little cottages and average level service (kind of a bummer)...we stayed there for our wedding, and mentioned that when we made the reservations - and was just kind of surprised at the ho-hum service. Ordinarily not a a big deal - but it's not like this place is cheap!
(Total opposite from the places we stayed at for our honeymoon in Thailand where it seems like the staff went totally overboard to accomodate the smallest wish!)
