I LOVE local mom&pop shops. They are unmatched in friendliness and knowledge!
I do not know anything about their costume selection, but I have been here for ballet gear for my kid and received the most amazing customer service and attention!
They have a young woman working there who is really very sweet and patient. She fitted my daughter for her new ballet slippers, found her sweater that is required by her school (which I had no idea about so that was helpful!) and her tights.
Unfortunately (seriously unfortunately) they did not have my daughter's size of leotard, so I had to drive all the way to Oakland and suffer a terrible CS experience...anyway, no one here has a snooty dancer attitude.
They know the local dance schools really well so they can recommend stuff to you. The owner is very sweet, I had been here before for another leotard a few years ago for my daughter's samba performance (so cute btw, she was 3) and he was extremely nice. today he tracked his shipment of leotards for me to see if he was going to get them in today. Had I planned ahead I am sure that I would not have needed to go anywhere else to purchase the things that I needed.
It looks like Ballet is going to be in our lives for the long haul, so I know now where to go to get the dance wear for my daughter. They even give customer's who go to a dance school a discount which is nice. -

I love coming to costume corner! You will always find something super interesting in here! I have been coming here for awhile now. I always come in here to buy pointe shoes, ballet flats, ballet attire and to rent Halloween costumes and buy costume accessories for Halloween. They staff here are SUPER nice and will go out of there way to find exactly what you are looking for and will really take your time with you. I always leave this place satisfied and with a smile on my face.

We stopped by today to pick up a wig for wifey to wear for NYE. The owner was super friendly, helpful, and very patient as we tried on various outrageously colorful wigs. He told us how to take good care of our newly purchased bright red hairpiece with a wide toothed comb. We picked up a wig cap and some fake eye-lashes to match and are all ready to ring in the new year in style.
I love little shops like this. You could clearly tell the owner enjoys this wonderfully fun little store. I'll definitely be coming back again soon.
I mentioned that I found him through yelp and he'd never heard of it. So if you're reading this now, welcome to the party!! Look how popular you are! -

My vision of a costume for Halloween? I wanted to dress up like the Monopoly mascot, impeccably dressed with a top hat wearing a "Will work for food" sign written on a piece of cardboard around my neck. I thought it'd be kind of clever and certainly apropos. In any case, Saturday morning came and went and after trying out a seriously ghetto looking Halloween superstore set up in Pinole off Appian way, I was losing hope in being able to find a top hat. I thought of looking for a magic shop so I typed the word 'Magic' on my iPhone Yelp app and Costume Corner showed up. Since we were only a few miles away, I asked my wife to give it a shot before I drop my costume idea altogether.
Costume Corner certainly did not disappoint! This is a jewel of a place and, tiny as it is, this place is packed with costumes of all kinds both for purchase and rental. I was able to purchase a fake mustache to glue on, a pair of black suspenders, a clip-on bow tie, a black and white walking stick and, piece de resistance, I rented a beautiful felt top hat. The service was a bit slow, but that's mainly due to the fact that the place was packed on Saturday afternoon. Of course, that's obvious with it being a week before Halloween.
My costume looked stellar though I actually put the words 'Please bail me out' on the cardboard so as to mark the point even more. Based on all the compliments I got, I must say my costume was a success and Costume Corner certainly deserves some praise. -

This is one of the closest costume shops near Berkeley and I didn't want to travel through the mess of SF.
He was very helpful. I couldn't go and browse the costumes myself, but I went in and told him what type of costume I wanted and he brought out all that I had. When I would try them on and if it didn't fit right, he told me that some of these things were easy to fix and showed me how to fix them.
The costumes weren't badly damaged. I could tell that they were dry cleaned after each use since some of the ones he brought out would still be in the bag.
Also, the weekend rental rate was pretty decent. The costume I wanted was only $35 for the whole weekend. Technically, it's the daily rate, but he counts the full day that you have it out. For example, if you need it Tuesday, you pick it up Monday and return it Wednesday for the daily rate. If you needed it Saturday, you'd pick it up Friday and since they're closed on Sundays, you would return it Monday for the same daily rate.
He offered good service and was very knowledgeable in the costumes. -

I went here for a pair of last-minute ballroom dance shoes for a wedding I had to go to later that day. The pair I got fit beautifully and were exceedingly comfortable the whole night, and that's with two blisters from a previous pair of shoes I'd tried to break in the day before.
Now, I'm not meaning to suggest that this store has a magical effect on shoes. What I am suggesting is that what is sold here is quality.
In addition to many pairs of dance shoes, there are also many wigs, pants, shirts, gloves, capes, doodads, and thingamajigs packed into the store. If he doesn't have what you want immediately available, I believe it can be special ordered (I was told this happened a lot with dance shoes; I probably would've taken him up on it had I not needed the shoes 5 minutes ago at that point).
If nothing else, he's got a Chewbacca head (presumably the whole costume, as well) for rental, so, A+ straight out of the lists for that one. CHEWBACCA, PEOPLE.
Oh, note on parking/finding the place - it's got its own parking lot, but it's kind of hidden, as you go down a sort of driveway to get to it (as opposed to the shops immediately next door, with the parking lot right in front of the street). It's not a huge deal, but I thought I'd mention. Watch out trying to get out of that lot, oncoming traffic can be tricky (even on a Saturday afternoon). -

Safe to say, I am a little crazy and when I read good reviews on a place I will drive out of my way to get there. I drove from the peninsula to El Sobrante and was not disappointed. I found a great pair of ballroom dance shoes and the saleswoman was very helpful in helping me determine he right fit.
The costumes in this place cracked me up; Chewbaca, Tasmanian Devil so many to choose from as a rental or to buy.
I'm not a professional dancer by any means but this place looks well stocked in dance wear and accessories, they had these underwear that you wear on your feet. I guess it is designed for lyrical dancers who are on the balls of their feet a lot. Overall great place and I will be here again soon as Halloween is around he corner. -

Wow, I didn't realize that non El-Sobbers came out here to Costume Corner.
They've always had everything that I've needed for my costumes over the years: from police badges to tiaras to masks. And they have a great selection of animal masks, as far as I'm concerned. The owner is also really friendly.
Surprisingly, I've never gone there for a Halloween costume. But I'm sure it's even better at that time. -

My daughter and I frequent this place and have always known it as a dance supply store rather than a costume shop, but after reading the reviews, we'll be heading there next October! As a dance supply shop, it's great. Great selection of styles and sizes of leotards, skirts, sweaters, and tights. Amazing shoe selection (we both dance ballet and my daughter does musical theater). We get a discount for mentioning our dance school. The service is excellent--individualized attention and always great patience with us as we try on shoe after shoe. The man that usually helps us (the owner? manager?) is very knowledgeable about the pros and cons of different shoe brands and styles. Others who have helped us have been equally informed. I also appreciated that they do not push the most expensive styles and are very practical in helping you choose the best shoe for your needs.
Prices are reasonable, especially when compared to other dance supply shops in the area.
My only complaint would be that sometimes the stock on the floor feels a bit disorganized and cluttered, so it's hard to find things on my own. But there's always a friendly salesperson to help me find exactly what I need. -

I have rented my Halloween costumes here for years. I bought my ballet shoes here when I was little too. This is an El Sob institution and even though the selection might not be huge, they are willing to order what you need and are very friendly.

This is my new favorite costume shop! I have been there for both dancewear and costumes and was satisfied with both experiences. The man that owns the shop is very helpful and nice. The shop has over 10,000 costumes! The shop even has those costumes with the big heads like mascots! So you could literally find any costume you could ever think of to rent! Even masks! Prices are also very reasonable and the costumes are all dry cleaned after each time it's rented. There is even a dressing room in the back where you can try on as many costumes as you like before you pick one to rent. I had to find a pirate costume and I found the perfect one, as did my friend who needed one as well. We were happy campers.
I am planning on going back soon for my future costume and dancewear needs. Costume Corner is great!
