I bought the remaining pieces of Versace China I didn't get off my wedding registry at Neiman's for HALF the price. So unreal. I docked a star because the lady at the pharmacy here is a rude witch.

Costco is great but there's just something darker and gloomier about this location (as compared to Mountain View or Foster City). Advantages of this location: Tons of parking and not as crowded and crazy as the other locations, lines are not as long as other locations. Downside: They don't have as wide a range of items that Mountain View or Sunnyvale has like chickens, fresh food items, random household goodies.

I don't think as many ppl know about this location because it's hidden off Woodside on Middlefield.

Bottom line: Come here for the Costco basics and you'll probably find shorter  lines and less hassle than the other locations.

I have a neutral/hate relationship with Costco. When I moved to suburban strip mall hell, I resisted it for years as a badge of sinking into the suburban abyss. It was right up there with SUVs and minivans. We resisted until we had our 3rd child, carting around two kids in a tiny Saturn coup.

There are few things that are a practical buy that I can actually use. For the most part, the products are waaaay bigger than the biggest family could actually consume. Also, many of the oversized products are only name brands which probably means that large volumes are cheaper than buying them in smaller sizes but not necessarily cheaper than getting generic brands in smaller sizes.

End of the day, there are very few items which make sense even for a family of 5. For example, they only sell two loafs a bread and a pallet size box of Cherios.  Who even has room in their fridges or pantries for such quantities??!!

On any given time I've been there, people seem to fall into two categories either people buying for their small business or family restaurant and heads of families roaming around aimlessly picking up impulse items.

So what am I actually doing there? I ask myself the same question whenever I set foot there. But if truth be told, I almost always get pretty much the same thing: a few bottles of wine, a piece of salmon big enough for two dinners, lunchbox size chocolate milk, spaghetti sauce, Progreso soup and roasted almonds. Occasionally I pick up diapers. Whenever I look at the size of the box, I can't help but think that my baby will be half way to college before he can use up all those diapers.

My jaw drops when I see jumbo size people buying in big quantities and/or stuffing their faces and those of their obese children with 20 oz. Cokes, pizza and ice cream.

Not as a accessible or as big as the one in Mountain View which is right off 101.

One of the better Costcos which always seems to have fewer lines than the others.  The Meat section is the best I've seen in ANY Costco. The food after checkout leaves a bit to be desired (as does the service).

Why a bad rating for such a great discount store where I used to shop all the time? One bad experience which has now ruined it for me.

In a nutshell, my parents gave me a gift certificate for a costco membership as a christmas gift. When they bought it down at a Costco in San Diego - they specifically asked what if the person they were buying it for already had a costco membership. The costco employee told them not to worry, if I already had a membership, I could use the gift certificate to renew my membership or get a store credit.

Well, I did already have a costco membership, but luckily it was about time to renew my membership, so I took my gift certificate down to this store to get a renewal. After an hour at their membership counter and countless calls to the manager..... I was told the gift certificate was good for NEW memberships only. I explained how the san diego costco told the buyer that if I had a membership already, that I could use it for a renewal or store credit. Another call to the manager and still "no, it's only for new memberships".

So, I asked what was I supposed to do with the gift certificate and they told me I'd need to give it back to the person who bought it and they'd have to take it back to the store where they bought it and that they could get a refund. Merry Christmas.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous.

I dont think anyone wants to go here because its not shi shi enough but its never tooooo crazy except around the holidays of course

I love coming here on a weekend....i go down every isle and i do sample everything!!!!!! I usually buy most of what I sample......I know im a sucker for dips, for quesadillas, for burritos........

I will go back for more than one sample.......im not ashamed, I'll even chat up the sample lady

Costco Highlights:

the second best hummus

Where else can you get Ben Sherman polos for $13?

Where else can you grab something to eat for $1.62 (tax included)??

I've been to my fair share of Costco's, and this one definitely is a LOT less hectic than any of the other ones...

I come here for the cheap food and tires for my truck.  A cheapskate like me has gotta love Costco.  I visit the food court often for there pizza, hot dogs, frozen yogurt, smoothies, and ice cream.  Can't beat the one year return policy on merchandise.  Out of all the big box stores, this actually pays the workers a fair living wage.  (I thought I heard one of there policies was that the CEO cannot make more than 10 times the lowest paid employee).

My only complaint is they don't have any bike racks to lock up your bike (I live less 2 miles from this store).  No where in the entire shopping complex.

This Coscto was one of the first in the area when it originally was Price Club.  Each of the Costco's have the same basic 3,000 - 4,000 items but carry other items to cater to that specific area.  An example is the South San Francisco Costco east of 101.  They carry a huge assortment of Filipino foods made by one of the largest Filipino restaurants in the area.  One of the negatives of this Costco and the Costco in Foster City is the unavailability of their outstanding rotisserie chicken.  This chicken weighs in at a minimum of 3.5 lbs or more and costs a measley 4.99 and is more than enough for two meals.  The entire chicken, even the breast meat is moist and oh so tasty.  You can make a nice gravy with the drippings.

An executive membership allows you to go in one hour early on weekdays.  Not only does this get you in for the first pick on produce but there is complimentary coffee and muffins.  I've gone in at 10:50 and coffee and muffins were in abundance.  Don't expect that to happen at the Foster City Costco.  If you aren't at the Foster City Costco by 10:10, forget it.

The greatest thing about Costco is their exchange policy.  Don't worry if you've lost your receipt because they can pull it up using your membership number.  I've brought a TV back after 7 months because of an annoying buzz and they gave me an exchange no questions asked.  A word to the wise...if you see something you like, buy it.  You can always take it back.  I can't tell you the times I've seen something and decided to go home and think about it.  Well guess what!  The next time I went it was gone.  This applies to seasonal stuff obviously.

A tip for Xmas.  There are tons of things like gift baskets etc. that are holiday items.  Keep your receipt on these because the day after Xmas, these items are marked down and if you return an item they'll only give you the sale priced unless you have your receipt.  On the other hand, you can pick up a lot of these the day after Xmas at a fraction of their original Costco prices.

If you don't see an item that you've seen before at Costco, don't hesitate to go to the floor supervisor and have them look it up on the computer.  They can also tell you which Costco might still have that item!

Are you into cooking?  Well try the business Costco in Hayward off A st.  There is a ton of stuff for the chef at home.  They also have milk and cream in smaller quantities.    Want "home made" quality soups?
They have them here.  Lots of restaurants buy this and pass it off as home made.  There has to be at least a dozen variety of soups here.

Anyway, feel free to ask me just about anything you want about this great place.

Speaking of the executive membership, you've got to get their no cost American Express card with the rebates.  I got over $800 back one year.  Believe me, that more than covered the cost of the Executive Membership!

If you're a veteran Costco shopper, then you know that lunch time is a good time to go for samples!  Man, this is a like a cocktail reception with all the appetizers you can eat just no booze!

Speaking of booze, one of the Costco checkers told me that he swears the Kirkland Vodka is actually Grey Goose!  If you're a vodka fan, it's worth a shot (or two or three)!

My mantra is "If Costco doesn't have it, you don't need it!"

This is a great Costco. Always clean and stocked.   Costco has started to carry several healthier and organic food items.  I also use the Costco Pharmacy for several of my prescriptions.  In addition they always carry the latest books and appliances.  I have purchased many a X-mas gift at Costco.

There is ample parking and I do not think I have waited longer than 10-15 minutes in line during the busiest of hours.

This Costco is also trying to expand and will be adding a refurbished warehouse and GAS STATION!

Return Policy - we normally buy all electronics at Costco due to their amazing return policy.  I used to return items YEARS after purchase with no issue. They have modified the policy for electronics in the past 6 months.  You can only return electronics within a certain time period and with a receipt.  Still an amazing return process!

Ah....the hidden gem down the street from home.  For some reason this Costco just isn't popular amongst all the Bay area locations.  Well you know what?  GOOD!!  I've been told various reasons as to why this location doesn't get as much foot traffic than the others, and most seem to say it's the area.  People say it's ghetto and not enough Americans go here.  What kind of garbage is that?  Who says you have to be high class to shop here?  Just because it's not shi shi foo foo like Foster City or Mountain View doesn't discount that this is a great location and what you can get at other locations, you can get here as well (minus the chicken).  Of course this is just based on what I have heard talking amongst random people that I have talked to, you may have heard differently from others.

Parking is never a problem here.  There are ample spots, although there don't seem to be that many places to place used carts, so expect quite a few "oh there's a spot" locations to be filled with carts.

The layout is great inside and the best part is, there's hardly anyone here!  Even if there are people there, the lines move so much faster her than other Costcos.  It's just pure bliss whenever I need to replenish on goodies or even pick up dinner.

The other great things about this place is that since it's not as crowded, it has a lot more stock than other locations.  The tire center here is good as well, very efficient.  It does however lack a gas station.

My only complaints would be that they could spend a bit of time to clean the tables if you choose to dine in, and there's no rotisserie : (.

So if you live nearby this location and drive further away to shop at other locations, the local people that do shop here and I thank you for making our experience here a lot better.

One last tidbit, El Grullense across the street has killer tacos and sopes to die for, and the fresh produce stand has some peak season deals on fruits and veggies too!

We use to shop in Mt. View until i realized that costco is MUCH closer to home that i thought. I like this store because it is not as busy as Mt. View and San Mateo. I tend to go on the weekdays to avoid any super busy times. I have been on the weekend and i'm happy to report that even then parking was available and not 12 miles from the door.

Have joined the adult club and gotten my first Costco membership. Woo!

Was in here twice this weekend and was amazed at how un-insane it was! I'm used to the Costco in Sac that is always a madhouse but this place? Plenty of room to maneuver the massive cart around those pesky people that park their cart in the middle of the aisle or directly in front of the sample lady.

Damn good samples too, speaking of the sample lady. I had all sorts of good stuff here this weekend, didn't even need to buy lunch! Bought the Morton's Tri Tip I sampled and it was SO good on the bbq that night, and it was about $13 for a big hunk of it. Deal!

Minor problem with the check out. I didn't get a box for any of my stuff and I had a lot of loose smaller items that could have benefited from it.  Also, the guy at the register had a really thick, pretty much unintelligible accent so that when he told my mom and I something regarding the Fast Trak thing we purchased, we didn't understand him at all. It was only after my mom returned to Sac that she figured out what he said. D'oh! Short checkout lines though, which I've never seen before.

Parking is a breeze, large lot and I found a space right away both times.

They only accept debit cards or American Express which is weird. No Visa. No MasterCard.

Going to Costco with the kiddos has somehow turned into a bit of a family tradition.  Here's how it stacks up:

* Pile the kids in the family truckster and go to Costco while they scream for pizza and hot dogs
* Get a cart, and try to peruse items you don't really need, but somehow can't live without.
* Fill your cart with cases of beer, water and piled high with 48-roll baggies of toilet paper.
* Take samples of food from vendors while having no intention whatsoever to actually buy the products they schlepp.
* Surprise yourself, by actually buying one of said merchandised items (later to go home and wonder how it could have tasted so good in the warehouse, but be so unremarkable at home).
* Check out and discover that your outing to kill time with your family has now cost you 300 bucks.
* But, then have the joy of buying the cheapest lunch you can imagine -- $1.50 polish with a fountain drink, $1.50 slice of pizza with a grotesque amount of cheese... well, you get the idea.  By now, it's naptime.

Although this is my local Costco I don't particularly care for it. The warehouse may seem to be standard Costco size, but it feels to me like they have a smaller selection of merchandise than the Costcos in Mountain View, Foster City, or SSF. Parking is very hazardous too, plus you have to deal with the hellish intersection of Woodside and Middlefield!

On the plus side, the snack bar runs like a well-oiled machine, and the restrooms are well located. Also decent samples stations.

Having Sigona's and El Grullense across the street and OSH next door is convenient, although I wouldn't miss OSH if Costco gets their way and guts both stores to build an even bigger Costco with a gas station. They've got a long way to convince the NIMBYs who are apparently projecting the aforementioned traffic problem on Costco. I wish 'em luck!

Out of all of the Costcos I've been to in the bay area, this is definitely my favorite one.

Lots of crowded Costcos in south bay made me nervous because I always had to worry about people crashing their carts into me or I accidentally step on someone's foot. I try to just get in and get out as soon as possible in those Costcos. But of course I always ended up stuck in there forever because of the long lines and people getting into each others way.

Luckily, I finally found this Costco. There is always parking available and never too crowded. It is clean and everything is always in stock. There is never just tons of people waiting around the food sample table and block the cart traffic. I can relax, take my time to glance and shop. What more can you ask for from a Costco store in the busy bay area?

The only con: this location doesn't have the famous money saving Costco gas station.

This is the only Costco I've been to that is worth going back to. It's never too crowded and it's never frantic, unlike the panic-attack-causing feeling I get in other Costcos. My sister and I go here when we're bored and end up buying a bunch of stuff that we didn't realize we couldn't live without. I always buy TP and water here. It's also a great place to stock up on liquor for parties or for those lonely people like myself who enjoy drinking alone while listening to Elliott Smith.

The secret Costco.  We had always gone to the Foster City (ack), Mountain View (ack ack) or San Bruno stores (ack ack ackity ack).  But this secret, hidden away Costco was a revelation!   I felt like a Western shopper in the secret foreigners-only stores in Moscow during the Brezhnev era.  Spacious, uncrowded aisles, a much better layout, more merchandise, no mob scenes around the sausage and chicken samples.  Almost nobody was here on a SATURDAY which is usually Costco Deathwatch Time, when only the suicidal go to Costco.  They even had the box of 1,000 handled sales bag that we use for dog poopie bags, which the other Costcos were out of.  Don't bother with produce though with Sigona's right across Middlefield.

This Costco is always crowded when I'm there, usually weekends. I guess it depends on the time of day.  Weekdays near rush hour is pretty busy too. I have been to the Foster City and San Bruno Costco and I have to say that the crowds aren't as bad here in Redwood City. The staff there seems to have a few years of experience, so the service is fast, friendly and efficient.

How can you Not love Costco.

Items that were once expensive are now readily available at a bargain (like pine nuts, cashews..).  The sizes are occasionally too much, but the combination of quality and price are hard to beat.  The Tillamook cheddars are a great bargain.

You should buy the whole New York sirloin - cut out the best steaks and grind the rest.  If you're willing to do the work, the savings are exceptional.

This place epitomizes everything that is wrong with America today.

I've never seen so much plastic landfill crap in one place, and I can't believe how many people buy it! There are so many fat kids in there, stuffing greasy pizza down their pie holes. And so many parents in there stocking up on high-fructose corn syrupy goodness.

When I first moved to Redwood City, I had a tire blow out on my car. I asked half a dozen people where I could get a tire changed (it was Sunday) and they all said Costco. So I joined, otherwise, I would've had to miss work on Monday.

I'll give it 2 stars, one for being able to get a new tire installed on a Sunday, and one for having an OK wine selection.

But the people that work here are brain-dead and rude.
This place is truly disgusting.
