For the avid hostess (small business owner? discount movie ticket lover? $8.99 take and bake pizza lover? Glutton?), Costco is a dream.
When we are gearing up to party down, we buy everything from party sized bags of chips to 36-racks of whatever light beer is on sale. The Brea bread is to die for, and is baked daily. The "Dressing on the Side" yoga pants really do make your butt look smaller, and the Petit Basque cheese will have you wishing that you bought 2 pairs of slimming yoga pants.
I love Costco, even if I always leave spending about $50-100 more than I intended. You can generally make your money back by planning meal time around your trip to Costco, and over indulging on all the samples. Artichoke dip on multigrain crackers? I'll take 10.
Here, the free parking lot is downstairs, though if you go at night you can often find metered parking spots along 10th!Listed in: psychoSOMAtic., Shoptimist!, Get your Grocery on

I visit this Costco location all the time. Yes the lines are going to be long, and the parking lot becomes a battle field over parking spots. But if you skip all those things, you're left with an A-OK Costco.
One complaint I do have about this place is the customer service desk people. My parents often go there to get a coupon book to look through to see what the deals are for the month. Depending on who it is, they usually hassle them with, checking their Costco card, then checking it through the system and what not. I'm not sure what all the trouble is for considering, hello, they're just asking you for a coupon booklet. If they didn't have a card in the first place, they wouldn't have been able to get into the Costco, better yet, they wouldn't be able to check out even if they didn't have a card.
Other than that, it's a Costco near downtown in a busy city, what do people expect? -

The best bakery department for the money. I buy all my cakes and breads at Costco. The only draw back is the quantity. I limit my trips to Costco because I am one of those impulse shoppers. You should not shop at a Costco if you are an impulse shopper.

I thoroughly enjoy my trips to Costco and a good laughter. The one time experienced at the register motivated to me to write the following review with the unsatisfactory rating -
Despite the long lines at the register, it's not all that bad, until you get the funny guy who wants to make uncanny racial jokes. Yesterday, I had the experience with being help by a gentleman in a tropical shirt at the register here, his first words to me was something along the line of "ching chong ling long ting tong, ni hao ma?" Here I am thinking -- man, what the fu.., instead I pretended not to hear him to avoid further unpleasant moment. Unfortunately, the cashier was persistent on practicing his "I am a lang jai goi low Cantonese" some more and continued the ill-humored racial jokes for a few minutes until I left.
Some outrageous feedback -
1) I did not come to Costco for bad humor
2) It's not a big deal that a white guy can speak Cantonese or any Chinese dialect, millions of Chinese people can speak English
3) When asked and shown your coupon book, enter the damn coupon codes so I don't need to talk to the supervisor to do a price adjustment afterwards
Plus one star for all of my other experiences at this store. I will continue to come to this Costco, but will avoid mister funny guy next time I get in line. -

I agree with some of the other reviewers that this Costco is very very busy on the weekends. If you come during the week or an hour or two before they close on the weekends you avoid all the people and it seems they are restocking for the next day. I have found that they offer great selections on meat, cheese, lunchmeats, cereal, wine, liquor and housewares. The other Costco's in the area have more in quantity of their products but can't compare to the selections above.
The parking lot can be a nightmare at first but once you get a routine you will figure out how to avoid the mess. The staff has always been cordial but I did come across a checker that disregarded my requests at checkout because he was in a hurry. Instead of letting it ruin my experience I had him redo my order. He wasn't happy and neither were the customers behind me but I bet if he sees me in his line again he will listen to my requests. -

The Latina woman in the purple shirt at the entrance this morning was hella rude! You don't talk to customers that way! You're also not the only who has to work today.....the day after Thanksgiving. I had to buy a bunch of stuff then go to work. Sheesh! If I spoke that way with a patron at work, I'd get written up so fast! With that nasty attitude, she shouldn't be a greeter. She'd be better off working at a sample table. She can yell at people to wait in line and only one sample per person. Unfortunately she's been working here for years now and it may be time for a change of environment if she's unhappy.
Rude lady gets no stars from me. The 3 stars is for Costco only. Ha!
People, if you're waiting to get a sample, please park your cart to the side so others can get by. I will push your cart far, far away if your cart blocks my path. I don't shop alone!
When walking behind someone or even next to them, don't follow too closely or you'll hit them with your cart. Or you step on the back of their shoes. Or even worse, your hand accidentally brushes their ass. The latter has happened to me twice now. And I am not amused.
Same goes for waiting in line. Make sure your eyes are on the person in front of you and you and your cart leave a nice gap. That way you don't push the cart into my ...uh... their ass or shoes! This has happened to me numerous times and I do turn around and glare at you. If it happens again a few minutes later, I will turn around and say something to you. Trust me, it's not very nice. I shouldn't have to play the Ms. Manners part. You're a grownup.
Here are a few of my fave items:
rosemary meat
miso dressing
vienna sausage
Big ol' can of nacho cheese
tortilla chips- Kirkland brand....why is it so damn salty?!?!
burritos
rotisserie chicken
spam
truffles
corned beef hash
Here are some items that come and go repeatedly:
edamame
jalapeno poppers
cream puffs
squeezable mayo bottles
Here are some items that are completely gone and I would like them to bring back:
country gravy
Eggo waffles
Sunchips
Cheetos
Doritos
Tostitos
And this is my one ultimate wish: Have one single cashier for a 10 items or less line. Not everyone comes in to buy a cart full of things. Sometimes and this happens alot, we forgot to get one item. This happened to me today. I dropped one of the coupons in the car and found it when leaving the parking lot. You know what? I'm not going back for it and waiting in a line that goes to the back of the store. I'd rather go to Safeway or Lucky for that item. Lost some money right there Costco! Just sayin'..........
Side note: pine nuts for $18?!?! Hell to the no! Were these semi dusted with gold specks? Ok I know the gathering of them is labor intensive but still..... you're Costco! Oh and caviar for $69? Yum but ouch!
On another note, I try my best not to shop at this location. This is one of the worst Costcos I've been to and it's all due to some of the employees and inventory. -

This is the only Costco that I know of that actually made the news several times. The place has a single entrance and exit.
The first time was when a bunch of armed robbers came in and robbed the place. People didn't know what was going on and continued shopping. I believe the standoff was at the Treasure Island tunnel, because they closed off traffic for awhile.
The second was the kidnapping. It didn't make the news until one woman who was shot survived after being forced to withdraw money out of her ATM. She crawled out of an abandoned field where he left here and found help. They caught the guy the next day trying to take out more money from her ATM. -

The SF Costco seemed to be much more hectic that the one I usually go to in San Mateo, the people are more rude and more in a rush, BUT...
They have an amazing cheese selection!!! I've never seen so much cheese with such great prices at any other Costco! I usually buy all my cheese at TJ's but now I'll be driving to SF to get my cheese fix.
Oh and don't forget about their roof parking, they always have space there! -

I especially dislike this Costco because it's always the one that's ridiculously busy... DO NOT COME HERE ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON..... I came here JUST to take passport photos and the people shopping were inconsiderate and rude as heck! Never will I come here again... I'll stick to Daly City or SSF locations.

If your stuck in SF with a costco card..OK come here...BUT if you can drive.
Drive to the El Camino location or even the Airport Location.
Reasons why
#1 The warehouses are bigger
#2 Wider Aisles
#3 Less Rude people walking in front of you and suddenly stopping.
#4 Same as above but they leave their cart in front of you and they piss me off and 5 others behind me.
#5 The lines are more efficient
I live only about 5 miles away from SF Costco but I drive 12 miles to the airport costco for the luxury and non frustration of whats listed about.
NOTE: IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO SUDDENLY STOPS IN FRONT OF SOMEONE OR LEAVES YOUR CART IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY AISLE DO NOT COME HERE! GO TO SF COSTCO I HEAR THAT PLACE IS AWESOME! -

Just found out you can buy wedding dresses here now! wow...
The line here isnt too bad. I encounter longer lines in the South SF location. But if you need things in bulk, you should come here. i.e. toilet paper, soap, etc. They're roasted chicken is BOMB! Really tasty and juicy (even the white meat) and only $5! Its dinner for 2 or lunch for 4 days! They have really good hot dogs too for $2! And dont forget the chicken bake! You can also buy them frozen here too. So much to buy, but just make sure you have trunk space and storage space at home! -

Came to Costco on a Saturday and it was madness. In the parking lot, a car was patiently waiting for a space and the woman behind him honked to the point where a security guard had to come out and tell him to move along. I saw the woman smirking with evil satisfaction. Inside, people were blocking aisles and making it hard to maneuver around. Someone also left their shopping cart right in front of the condiments section. I witnessed a man cut in line to get a straw for his drink and a woman verbally gave him a piece of her mind. As I was walking out, someone was tailgating me with their shopping cart and ran it into the back of my foot (he did apologize). It was just one thing after another.
Do yourself a favor and go to another Costco if you have the choice. It will save you a headache. But I guess the silver lining is that if you get a headache, you can buy Aspirin in bulk.
I have to give this Costco 1 Star based on the experience. -

No wonder why Costco stock is down -- even Corporate Costco workers are blind to all the problems. Was there on Nov 3rd/Thursday 11am -- group(5+) of Costco Corporate employees walking around, blocking aisles, blocking shoppers. Didn't they (men and women) notice all the things that needed fixing? Notice the trash? The inefficient check aisles, the surly employees (just some of the employees).
Didn't these Corporate Costco employees notice that all the premium, close to the front door parking spots were taken by employees? The store (Costco corp) can make more money if they fix the problems of the store, this store.5 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Well as the only Costco in SF +1 star.
Lines werent too bad as i went right before closing. Selection of product was good. Free parking, esp with a cart full of awesome bulk shit, is quite the plus. ALL COSTCOS SRSLY NEED AN EXPRESS LANE (5 items or less, sicne 10 items ends up being just as slow as the regular line). You would improve customer satisfaction at least 10fold, srsly.
But all in all, I love Costco, and the SF location does nothing to change that for the gooder or for worser.

And the Costco hot dog, king of bun and wiener, casts his glance down
from his stone-castle tower onto his lower hot dog subjects milling
about. Ikea and Home Depot hot dogs treading aimlessly with hollowed eyes blankly starring at nothingness.
"Ants running amok in squalor," he scoffs to himself, not able to decide whether he feels pity...or a tinge of slight amusement at what he beholds.
"Is this the King's Madness?" he nervously ponders."Has my mind been corrupted by power? Do I no longer feel empathy?" -

Get your Rx's filled at Costco for pennies on the dollar... AND NO MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED! woo hoo!
My health insurance dropped a psychotropic med from their formulary that they had been covering for years.
My super-smart neighbor told me non-members, too, can get their scrips filled at Costco for real cheap and she was right:
$12 at Costco vs. $70 at Walgreens. boo on Walgreens!
From non-members, they accept cash and debit cards for payment (and insurances too, if you have that).
So if you're pinched for pennies like I am and need a med, Costco's prices seem unbeatable. -

Costco Wholesale... who does not like going here? You have a large selection of samples, buy stuff you need on a regular basis in bulks and save! Every time I hear or think about Costco, one thing that comes to my mind is the polish dog and soda for $1.50 what deal!? The best bang for the buck.
I come to this location now and then when I am downtown and this place does get pack. Even the return line can be ridiculous long due to Costco's open policy to return stuff. On Electronics on the other hand has a different return policy.
Like any other Costco, they all sell similar things, sometimes certain Costco have something another Costco does not. For example, the downtown Costco sells Gelato in a waffle cone and other Costco does not have that. Even in the jewelry the San Francisco has some pretty high end merchandise that other Costco's do not have.
Overall, you do need a membership to get in, but it's worth it if you go a lot. If you have the executive membership for every penny you spend there you get a certain back and eventually your membership will be paid off from it. Try to either go early in the morning when they open or before they close. It is always pack anytime of the day.
**parking**
they have their own parking lot and you can park on the street too, but you need to feed the meter.

Costco and I have a love/hate relationship. This store is amazing and the fact that you can get 40 apples for $3.99 is pretty amazing. Ok, maybe not 40 but still everything bought in bulk is cheaper. The fact that they have their own parking garage is pretty unique to SF too. If you go on weekends make sure to check out the tasty samples. I'd say every 4 out of 5 serve good snacks - grab a couple.
Just make sure you have an American Express, debit card, or cash because Costco is picky. -

Going to Costco is a necessary evil I need to endure! Why do we need to pay a membership fee when it's obvious that Costco is doing plenty of business!
The Good: The prices are competitive. The samples. Large product selections, quantity and quality. Their bathrooms are reasonably clean.
The Bad: Finding a parking space. Avoiding crazy customer carts and selfish self-centered people blocking the lanes inside the warehouse! The long waits at the check-out.
Going to Costco is like catching a flight at the airport and having to deal with the TSA line. I go only when I have to! -

I LOVE this Costco. You can't keep me away. I don't even have a car and I make the trek over here for 1 manageable item and a vanilla frozen yogurt.
It has the best and most extensive samples of any Costco that I have ever been to. Chicken apple sausage, teriyaki meatballs, Fage yogurt with honey, Phili cheesesteaks, mozzarella balls, Madeline's, ham, chicken salad sandwiches, mooncakes, turkey jerky... (yes, this was all in one trip).
I feel like this Costco also has more aisle space as well, thus decreasing the probability of cart on cart violence. I would probably consent to Costco ruling the world; Google should probably get in on that action too. -

This Costco is great as long as you avoid peak hours- when it can be absolute Holy War. My favorite part of this Costco is riding my shopping cart down the ramp after I leave as I head towards my car. Also can't beat a chicken bake every so often...

I think there are few things that bring out the worst in middle-class suburbanites than a Costco parking lot. Want to see a complete breakdown of the social fabric? Come to Costco on a Saturday. I've seen more fights break out at Costco than anywhere else. And I'm not talking about drunk frat guys, I'm talking about the asian grandma with the high-heeled, fishnet stocking wearing tranny. Trying to get a sample of that bagel bite is like fighting for the last life vest on a sinking ship.
Costco can be many things: guilty pleasure, necessary evil, consumer heaven, wholesale vendor. I remember reading an article that said that nothing Costco sells is more than 15% above the wholesale price and they buy almost half the world's supply of cashews! I could wander around this place for days. But long ago, I had to wean myself off their 5lb bags of gummi bears, their 30-count handheld chicken pot pies, their 12-packs of muffins. Now, I can only swing by for my bi-annual stock-up of toilet paper and laundry detergent. Unless I'm throwing a party. Then Costco rocks. I think I've been using that roll of aluminum foil since the Clinton administration.
What advice can you give about a Costco? Go during the Super Bowl, Friday nights of a holiday weekend, Valentine's Day, maybe Christmas Eve. It's like a ghost town in there. Their eggs and milk are really cheap, but really think about how much you can eat. Many an bag of broccoli have perished in my refrigerator. You don't need a membership to use the pharmacy or to get food in the food court. Ordering photos online is cheap and easy. The return policy is unparalleled. You can buy ski resort lift tickets here for decent prices.
And the chicken bakes... GOD... the chicken bakes.
