One of my favorites in the neighborhood. SAD = IT CLOSED ABOUT SIX (6) months ago
Looks like some high price Italian place will be in the spot in a few months. -

Costa Del Sol is the answer to Hell's Kitchen's lack of Spanish restuarants in the area. Unlike the nearby Mexican/Cuban places and Puerto Rican restaurant (Deportivo), Costa Del Sol's seafood variety makes for a nice change in similar cuisine. The veal, paella, jamon, various tapas, and especially the "Parrillada De Mariscos" were good, yet a somewhat expensive. With solid decor and an intimate lighting, Costa Del Sol seems decent for a nice date. Beware, as the service is sometimes very lackadaisical and their delivery is insanely slow.

Finally, a Spanish restaurant! It was pretty exciting to see a restaurant advertising Spanish food as opposed to Latin-American food. Not that there's anything wrong with the other stuff, but sometimes I want just plain Spanish. From Spain. At 8:30 on a Friday night, the first thing I noticed was that I was the only one in the dining room. A few people in the bar, but that's all. Pretty creepy. Makes for awkward dates. The service was pretty good, and on a personal note, it was refreshing to hear the sounds of my native Castilian once again. Unfortunately, the food wasn't quite what I expected. The menu offers a variety of genuine Spanish dishes from Galicia to Andalucia, but the taste is rather bland. The saffron was almost invisible in my rice, and my mussels didn't seem to absorb any of the flavors from the sauce that came in their bowl. Not wanting to ruin my taste for flan, I skipped on dessert but ended things with a nice glass of whiskey. Their bar selection is pretty good. Searching for an excellent Spanish restaurant here in New York is a personal goal of mine. Let the search continue.

My mom loves this place. The sangria was great! My paella was ok... the shrimp was a bit overcooked and dry.
