oh how i have loved this place for so many years. they have something for every part of your place for every style. my favorite part of the store of course is the selection of gourmet foods and tasty adult beverages. i literally spent an hour going through the food aisles today. this place is way too dangerous because luckily i had a budget so i had to limit myself money wise. i ended up getting some great sauces and marinades. i know sounds boring but i'll make up for it in a big way on my next trip.
the employees are always so helpful and friendly asking if i need any assistance or if i need a basket for my items. many times they even give me free cloth bags for the goods. unfortunately i must limit myself on how times i go to cost plus because i will go off in a big way.

They carry a HUGE selection of tasty chocolates: Godiva, Guittard, Ghirardelli , etc. They also have great smelling candles, Indonesian Teak wood & China Pear are very nice. They have spices I can't find at a regular grocery store such as garam masala, sadly THIS CostPlus is frequently low on the spices, what's up with that? I couldn't find caraway seed for like a MONTH. Oh! They also have a bar soap by Pangea Organics I LOVE it's called "Malagasy Cinnamon Cassia with Cloves". It is spicy and nice not to girly for a guy to use but it's $7 a bar so I only get it once in a while.
They are primarily an import store, so you can find all sorts of cool imported decorator items. Candle holders, wall decorations, etc. They also have cute gift bags for nearly every size gift as well as greeting cards & wrapping paper.
The employees are friendly and will help you find stuff even if they don't know WTF you're talking about LOL which has been the case with me a couple times.
So why only 4 stars? The same reason someone else stated, I feel the quality of the items isn't equal to the cost. However isn't it that way everywhere you go now?

I'm becoming a hypochondriac. After reading an article about skin cancer in one of my mom's magazines, I quickly made ANOTHER appt to Kaiser for a bump that I found on my arm. Turns out, it was a scar. Needless to say I was relieved that I wasn't going to have to go through chemo and eventually die because of one tiny bump, like I had naturally envisioned. To treat myself for being cancer-free, I decided to go across the street to one of my favorite stores, Cost Plus.
If you've never been to a Cost Plus, what the hell are you doing with your life? Come here now! It's the new Trader Joes, only 10x better. They have great furniture and little "tchotchkes" (as my ex boss would say, sup jared...I KNOW you're reading this!). They have an excellent selection of wine and foreign food items. My favorite thing in the store are the imported candies. I love anything gummy, and they supply the Haribo brand candies. The rasberry and blackberry Haribos are the best. They're so sweet but so delicious. Yum, straight to the cavity hole! They also have a good selection of coffee and tea.
Make sure you have at least an hour to spend and browse in here, anything less and you'll feel cheated. I like to go down EVERY aisle, even if the sales associates follow me closely. Come on, I'd never steal from you Cost Plus. You know this, baby. I love you.

Cost plus is the place the Mr. and I go when we are bored and just want to kill time. There are always fun toys and yummy bizarre snacks to pick up. We almost never leave cost plus without spending 50 bucks. IT's addictive!

I had to buy new furniture for my new place and they have everything I needed! The down fall is that some of the items are a little pricey and they aren't quality items. Overall it's a good place to go if you need furniture and you're on a budget.
Dh says ...
Go to COST PLUS & buy some flasks.
Ok, I bought 2 - have to have lots of alcohol.
My parents love going to dim sum and always drag me there when I visit Pleasanton. Thank god for the Cost Plus next door otherwise I would be subjected to half hour long conversations like the following (before I realized I could go to Cost Plus) :
Mother P:
Connie, you have been getting fat lately and I really think it is important that you lose some weight.
Connie P:
Mom, I am fine. I just gained a couple pounds over the holidays.
Mother P:
Well, when I was your age I was about a hundred pounds and men found me irrisistible. Also, Connie, you need to stand up straight. You have a small chest and if you want to catch a guy you need to show people that you have a chest. When you graduate from college I will buy you a boob job.
Connie P:
Great Mom! You are too kind. I'm going to go to the store over there and I'll be back when they are ready to seat us.
Mother P:
I hope you are not planning to buy alcohol. I think the only thing you learned to do in college is drink.
Connie P:
I'll be right back!
Thank you Cost Plus for helping eliminate these akward conversations and being a source of cheap wine.

I always find something for my home here.
The prices are very reasonable and a good value.
It is an experience to shop here in November and December for the holidays. They carry a wide array of unique ornaments at wonderful prices.
The sales staff is helpful and kind.
This is a fun store full of total crap that you don't really need. Whenever i'm in the area i spend about 15 minutes ruamging through the weird candy section. I bought some pretty good last minute Christmas gifts here. If you're a college student looking for a papasan chair..this is the place to go. My dog took over mine and turned it into her "throne"..those chairs are great.

One earthquake would ruin this store. It has so much stuff that they pile mounds of backstock up on the top of the shelves.
I love that they have so many different things. The store's inventory is constantly changing, which can be a good and bad thing. Good because it means everytime you walk in, you can find something new. Bad because if an item doesn't sell well they drop it rapidly from their inventory.
The foreign food aisles are awesome, and I'm glad they started carrying jewelry again. The furniture is overpriced, as well as some of the decor, but overall this is a great store to browse through.

This is a fun store with lots of cool exotic trinkets from all over the globe; talk about variety! If you have a pal from a foreign country who's getting homesick you can usually find something here to cheer them up, like Cadbury flake bars for the friend from London. I usually get my "Made in Napa" spice packs and marinades here, which I can't live without! They make any meal better and barbequing a blast! Their wine bags are pretty cute but seem overpriced to me. I like browsing this store, they have a nice selection of seasonal items to hit the beach or put up the Christmas tree, and the post-season sales are divine! I also loved the ornaments they had this year, from intricately blown glass, to sparkly beaded items. The prices on vary, the furniture seems too expensive, but you can pick up a plain white gravy boat for $2, so it depends on your needs. I can always pick up a fun gift for someone here, or better yet for me! I've also bought some killer dangly earrings here too.
