11 reviews for Cost Plus World Market
So many of the other reviews talk about furniture, house wares, etc... and I suppose I saw some of those things here - but that's not what I was after. I made a b-line straight to the back - and thought I'd died and entered Candy Heaven.
I lived in Japan almost 15 years ago as a child, and haven't had Japanese candy since. I heard that I could find a small selection of candy here and decided that I would take a look. What did I find? More than a small selection, and most of my childhood favorites! I spent over 30$ on candy alone, buying a shopping basket FULL of sweets!
I, if for no other reason than the candy, plan on visiting as frequently as I need to in order to satiate my sweet tooth and nostalgia. If you're looking for overseas candy - try here. I don't know much about other nation's sweets, but I found what I was looking for, and there were still more isles of candy from other places that I didn't recognize.
Also - they sell other things. Like wine and tea. I'm pretty sure.
When I first walked into this place a few years ago I thought I was in an upscale world flea market. When I began checking the prices I was snapped awake and realized it was another typical Buckhead store with overpriced merch you can get pretty much anyplace else.
I've bought very little here because I just don't agree with the prices. I do enjoy their tea and beer selection and the furniture is always nice to look at, but I can't afford a $200 night stand. Holy shit! How much for a floor rug? Holy shit, again!
They have some nice kitchenware - I've bought a couple of ladles and nearly bought a wok (found one cheaper at Marshall's).
It's a cool little place to kill some time and buy merch you'll be hard pressed to find elsewhere.
Miss D. and I are huge fans of this imported houseware, food and beverage retailer. For furniture, which can quickly empty your wallet, value is very good. Workmanship and design are great for the price. We bought quite a lot of furniture at World Market, such as our "Sourav" dining room set, which included a long, quite solid, chiseled table and six chairs. A very similar, and likely inferior, table was for sale at Crate and Barrel a mile away at Lenox Mall for over $1,000.00 more than we paid here (factoring in the same number of chairs). Our table was manufactured in India, but I highly doubt that the price difference is because the Crate and Barrel table was made in the U.S. It sounds unbelievable, but it was true! Also, I shop here for imported candy and stocking stuffers at Christmas time.
World Market also has great kitchenware, and this is your first stop if you are looking to tastefully outfit your first apartment or house.
Staff is always friendly, never snobby. A couple of male staffers were helpful loading our long, newly-purchased table and two of our chairs into my small SUV. Plus they have a beer and wine license. Check out the wine sales advertised in the Sunday AJC.
I don't bother with the decor side of things here, I'm usually there for the food. The imported teas, alcohol, chocolates, and condiments make for quick gifts for foodies or family. Oh, and for me as well. I've tried some interesting foods from here, and the prices are affordable. It's not as cheap as the Dekalb Farmer's Market, but the selection is also a little higher quality so it balances out.
The glassware and dish selection is good as well. You can also find some surprisingly good deals on wine here. They don't have a huge selection, but the prices are reasonable and once in awhile you'll stumble across a real bargain. The beer selection isn't shabby either, but it's getting easier to find the same imports in grocery stores and liquor stores around Atlanta now.
Joy! I adore stopping into Cost Plus World Market. It's a guarantee I won't walk out empty handed.
The go-to-place for imported teas, candy (*), wine/champagne, and other delicacies, it also sells greeting cards, artwork, furniture, decorative pillows, bath salts and many other delectable items.
* The candy is clearly my downfall, although I've been known to buy a new kitchen utensil upon each visit. Maltesers (British malt balls) and Aussie red licorice always entice, and usually win.
this place is dangerous!! i can literally go in for some basmati rice, and leave out with 2 bottles of wine, some candles, a pair of earrings, a picture frame, and chocolate (forgetting to even get rice!).. but any place where i can get soooo many eclectic things for such low prices will keep me coming back!
if you haven't been... picture a mix of ikea (but nicer), whole foods (but just dry food and wine), and pier 1... mix that with some international music on the speakers... and you've got yourself a winner!
I totally agree with lenée y... this place is dangerous. I'm usually here for the food (where else can you get stroopwafels and Pocky in the same store?!), the wine that's on sale (they have a pretty good selection), and all the cool stuff in the kitchen wares section (like I need more kitchen stuff). They also have a pretty good selection of furniture and house wares that I have resisted buying so far.
Cost Plus World Market Haiku Review
Pier 1-esque housewares,
but the foreign foods are great:
I love English treats!
Don't think you can walk in and out of Cost Plus empty-handed. My friend dragged me here "for just a minute" to buy a few things for a dinner party. We wound up shopping for over an hour - there is so much wonderful merchandise to sort through. The selection of imported foods and wines is impressive, and the home decor has a special intrigue. Furthermore, their goods are useful and high quality. I will definitely return.
I love to go to World Market and literally push my cart down each and every aisle. I particulaly love the gourmet food section with many imported items like chocolates, olive oils, and pastas. Th emake your own gift baskets here are perfect hostess and house warming gifts. The furniture is stylish and reasonably priced. To describe this store would be like this: It s Pier 1 Imports meets Trader Joe's with a little Williams Sonoma thrown into the mix Be careful, it's easy to go overboard here on impulse items.
I just am not really a fan of cost plus world market. I love to look at the stuff they have, especially the gourmet foods, but I just don't usually find anything I can't live without..
