Review Highlights
Cosmos is one of my favorite bars in Dallas and pretty much THE bar I go to in Lakewood. The BEST bartender in the world, Jackson works there.
If you're by yourself and you want a beer/drink and you don't want to drink by yourself because it's pathetic- then go here. No one thinks its weird if you're alone and you can dress like a scumbag and no one gives a crap. I've come in there after kickball games, after the gym, and stinkin like a sweaty farm worker. No pretensions here, folks. It's like a living room. You can order a pizza (that's pretty good!), a beer, and request a movie that they play on the TV and relax like it's your own place...except there are drunk people and service. You can't LOSE!!!
For those that gave it a low rating because the pizza and the place wasn't impressive...well you can bite me. First off...it's a BAR. If you go there for the pizza, then go back to uptown and wait your complaining suck ass in line at Fireside pies. Or better yet, stay your ass home and order Pizza Hut. Gimme a break. You suck...seriously. My review of you is zero stars. You do not belong at Cosmos, nor do we want you there. You don't get it. Go away.
The decor also lends to a great atmoshere. 70's style porn lamps hang from the ceiling and retro chairs and furniture line the place. There's a great jukebox that doesn't carry the latest douche top 40 vomit songs- but great classics that you can listen to with your eyes closed or sing drunk at the top of your lungs.
On the weekends, you will find your usual bar crowd with the high heels and button up shirts- just like any other place in Dallas. However, if you come in a T-shirt and jeans, no one blinks. You can find ad people, the douchbag fake bakes, and the casuals all rolled into one. Unfortunately, the smoking ban has really thinned out the crowd, but the hardcore Cosmo smokers just smoke outside.
Love this bar, love the creepy regulars, love the bartenders. My favorite dive bar in Lakewood!
Warning: Never ever ever ever go there during the daytime or if the sun is up. No matter what. Trust me. It will ruin everything.

Funky-grungy. Just the way I like my dive!
On a Sunday night it was relatively uncrowded, which I liked because we weren't exactly there to mingle. We had to talk loudly at times, but for the most part were able to enjoy the dimly lit, eclectic space while playing iPhone pop culture trivia (we're pretty dang geeky) and having plenty of room for our pizza and drinks.
The pizza was sufficient if not amazing. The Greek had feta, tomato, and olives, which were disappointing (canned). Crust was just not that stunning, a little floury but definitely not overcooked (I'm one of those who don't love too much char on my crust). However, we were pretty hungry and ended up eating most of a pie between us, so it certainly wasn't anything to sneeze at. Better than average bar pizza.
Blue Moons kept on coming, which kept me happy.

I used to live right around the corner from Cosmo's and it was a great bar to walk to. The reason I say "walk to" is because of the lack of parking. Most people park at the Lakewood Landing or across the street and walk over. I would advise against parking at Medallion because they will have your car towed.
On cold days, snuggle up to the fireplace and enjoy your favorite cocktail while listening to the best jukebox in Dallas.
Their drink prices are reasonable, maybe a little on the higher side. The service is friendly and speedy. If someone invited me out for drinks at Cosmo's, I would be there in a heartbeat.

FAVORITE. BAR. IN. DALLAS. Period, hands down, no question. This gem is in the killer Lakewood and a complete diamond in the rough. Here is a place to go to actual get away from the typical Dallas d-bag.
Juke box= freaking killer selection. I could spend $50 on it. Everything from White Stripes to the Commodors. Rock.
Drinks= strong ass pour- inexpensive
TV's- always playing something random and wonderful- like Barbarella
Decor- freaking awesome. Can you come decorate my house? Vintage posters, awesome lamps, light up tables, velvet chairs, couches....This place is a time warp back to the 70's.
Food- some pretty decent pizzas for when you have been over served.
Now that there is no smoking, this place is truly like no other. I want to move in here.

I'm sorry, but I wasn't wowed by Cosmos. I give it almost three stars. I saw this place as a run down hole in the wall. It was incredibly smokey when I went, before the smoking ban. It was kitschy and grimy. Seemed more dirty.
This place may be cool because it's not full of silicon bimbos but i found it lacking in comfort.
I wasn't crazy about the pizza.
Bartenders are ON POINT and I love the decor. Jackson you the man!!! Pizza's deeeeelish!!!! This place was recommended to me by the gals workin at Power Properties for Happy Hour and I sure am glad they did. The Happy Hour prices are terrific. I unfortunately cant visit as much cause I'm a new single Mommy....but I plan on comin out when Gma can sit....

i love this bar. i've taken many of friends and dates here over the years because its a fun, full of atmosphere and decorative lights, hangin out kinda bar. even the seating is interesting, none of the tables or chairs match. it isn't that big and really i can't tell you anything about the drink specials but grab a seat on the couch near the fireplace or anywhere you can and rock out to the jukebox. you might also notice in the corner behind the bar they have some classic or popular movie playing, possibly on vhs. just one more reason to love this lil bar.

After several years of loyal Cosmo's patronage, I learned two new things this weekend. One, Jackson's name finally stuck. Go figure. Two, Jackson makes a mean ass Dirty Martini. And by dirty I really mean pornographic. With nipples and all. Wait. Maybe those were Charlize Theron's nipples on the TV. Whatever.
I don't usually consider myself a cocktail girl, but Jackson and his bartending compadre (c'mon, one name at a time folks) managed to shake up the best Dirty Martinis I've ever had. And they were only $7 a pop. Either I'm getting way too used to overinflated Dallas cocktail prices or I've just fallen in love with Cosmo's all over again. Considering I just drooled on my keyboard thinking about my new precious (preeeeciousssss)...I'm going with the latter.

So I haven't tried the pizza yet, which is apparently the shit; I almost want to wait to review... but won't.
I really love coming here because it is truly chill. As in I totally forgot about my kill-me-now hair last night, which would not have happened in judgemental surroundings! People are always friendly, it's not too hookup-y, and you can just RELAX, visit with friends and drink your day away. It is kinda weird to be there without the thick cloud of smoke, though.
For some reason I always remember it as being smaller than it really is - there's a good amount of comfy seating around the fireplace, and a few more groupings down the length of the building, plus the smaller tables... and of course the bar.
The bar is where the magic happens. Usually I'm a beer girl, but good golly... I've had Jackson's little cups of delicousness a few times now, and the man is a god. Vodka + cranberry + lime, vodka/soda + lemon + lime, or dirty martini... he's always done right by the booze.
And that martini WAS dirty. While Nickie observed (probably thinking "amateurs!" :D) Megan & I tag-teamed him with "dirty" "REALLY dirty" "seriously - so dirty it's pornographic"... and he delivered. Exhibit A: drunken camera-phone photography of olive-sword #2. Or maybe #3.
We were THAT kind of people last night... and THAT kind of people-watching can't be bought. You're welcome.
Oh! And while Leigh P's 70s porn was nowhere in sight, I did see Charlize Theron's boobie. Coupla times, nip & all. So there's that.

So, I finally made it Cosmo's. It only took me ten months of living in Dallas, but hey, better late than never. After all of the glowing reviews, I expected this place to be busy. I went on a Saturday night, and the place was pretty much empty. The bartender, Jackson, was great and kept drinks in our hands while we were there. The couple sitting next to us was also friendly and made for some good company. If I'm ever in the area, I would come back!

Great little tikki bar. It's a relaxed little bar with comfortable eclectic seating. You feel that you've walked into a bar from the 1970's. The crowd is usually laid back and never too crowded but usually not empty. The bartenders are funny and friendly and jukebox has a great selection of music. It's a great little bar with lots of character and fair drink prices.
I used to go to Cosmo's religiously when they first opened several years ago. I loved the pizza, jukebox and the Logan's Run poster on the wall. Many, many fond memories, including falling off the ledge by the booth along the east wall. Good times.
But the last couple times I went it had become a bit preppy and snobby for my taste. Maybe it was an off night. I hope it's gone back to the way it was: fun and neighborhood-y. I'll go back soon and re-review...
Cosmos gets 5 stars because it's the favorite bar of my good buddy Nickie G. It's a cool, lounge-type atmosphere. Very laid back in a cool ass Lakewood way. There's a TV playing movies in one corner and it's always something amusing. The first night I ever went to cosmos they were playing some kinda '70's porn. Last weekend they played The Dark Night and THEN Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. Movie perfection. The drinks are strong... and the pizza is great!
The bartenders are cool... the waitresses are a'ight (not really giving me warm fuzzies but they haven't thrown us out yet, so that's a plus). I am knocking off a star for the smokiness of this joint. Yes, I know... but it's more smoky than the average bar. Jeans will be beyond febreezing. Hair takes 2 washes to get it out. Purse, wallet, lipstick... all smell like smoke when you leave. Totally bizzare. If this place ends up following with the smoking ban I betcha it'll take 6 months to fumigate. Seriously.
The company I've had with my fellow trifecta goers has made the dry cleaning bills more than worth it though.

I cannot believe they have light up tables and WONT LET YOU DANCE ON THEM. What is wrong with these people?! Kristen, you get up there and I'll smack anyone who tells you to get down. It just ain't right.
Okay...so had fun at Nickie's birthday party. My beer was cold and beery. I never had to wait a long time to get one. Pizza was okay. Bar was smoky--but it's a bar, not a health spa.
I did, however, totally draw the line when a bus full of popped collar elves came in around 1 a.m. for last call. I'm sure it was some sort of holiday pub crawl in a party bus--for idiots, but these folks loaded the juke box up with Journey. They smacked of desperation, as if they needed us to go, "You're so cool and you're taking over the bar and we all wish we were your friends." When in fact we were all saying, "Geeeez who are the effing idiots with the hats." I don't usually begrudge folks their idiocy, but I have my limits.

I have been initiated into the Lakewood Trifecta... and I like it.
We bounced over here after the Exhale Spa Party to get our drink on (more). I was impressed with the seating arrangement we had. It seemed to be just big enough for our group. The waitress was super attentive and quick.
Chris G. ordered some barbeque pizza... and I totally bogarted it. I get really hungry when I drink. I can't help it. It was realllly good for bar pizza too. The first one was slightly burnt---which I really like. Whenever I make a frozen pizza I always burn it on purpose. It's soooo good!
My friend J is always telling me that it's seedy. I don't see it at all... but the rumor makes me like Cosmo's more. I am still a teenage rebel at heart.

I used frequent this place back in the days before Yelp came about, but I couldn't review this place until I had a more recent visit.
Yes, some of us Yelpers came up here for some after party drinking and Cosmo's was perfect for our group. We had a source of alcohol, it was dimly lit, kick ass music playing from the jukebox, awesome bbq pizza, and JCVD kicking ass in Bloodsport playing on the tv at the bar. What more could a guy ask for? Chicks, you say? Yes, they were abundant as they were crazily dancing about. Down that last bit of your alcoholic drink, get up and joint the party!
I'm back bitches!

there was a rumor the pixies had been removed from their jukebox.
in which case, this review was going to be negative stars. however, i personally verified they have not, or at the very least came to their senses. the jukebox has something for everyone. the only problem with that is, you're going to hear some shit you don't like too. like maybe really don't like. its part of the deal.
good drinking bar. eclectic crowds match their eclectic jukebox.
dark, comfortable (if you get a couch), small. very relaxed.
pizza is way overrated. i mean don't get me wrong. it is good when you're drunk and decent when you're not.... but it's not even in the top 25 dallas pizzas.... in my humble opinion of course.

We had a heck of a good time at Cosmo's last night. Loved just about everything about the place, especially the 70ies decor and furniture. The lot of us took over a corner of the bar and chilled on one of the L-shapped couches. I was mesmerized by the old-ass movie playing on the new-ass flat screen TV by the bar. I still can't figure out if this place opened circa 1973, or they purposefully decorated the place like a time capsule. Feels like the museum of bad 1970 decorating taste. I almost wished I was wearing platform shoes and polyester. Almost! The crowd was quite varied and eclectic, but definitely non-douchey!
Drinks were nice and strong and the staff was friendly and helpful. Our waitress even shoo'ed away the two guys who had taken over "our" couch when we came back from our short visit to the landing.
Food wise, all they have is pizza on the menu. It's a'ight but quite adequate to soak up some of the booze 'round midnight!
The only negative I found is that this place is a smoker's haven. My eyes still sting from all the smoke. I had to take a star off for that.

I'm reviewing Cosmo's because I owe it to them for all the years of taking them for granted. I first came to Cosmo's several years ago before I lived in Lakewood, when Lakewood was like the Burmuda Triangle that people disappeared into and no matter how many mapquests I did I could never find them again. (Where the F is Llano?? I know it exists, I have been there!!!)
Anyhow, I liked Cosmo's that night, thought it was a funky little club that no one knew about, and I felt like I had discovered something. But for some reason, after moving to Lakewood and becoming one of the cool people who can navigate this neighborhood in my sleep, laughing at my friends who say, "how can you live in Lakewood, I get lost every time I try to go near there!" I took it for granted.
It became a place that you walk to when friends come over for a laid back night, but not a place that you go "out." Everyone raves about cosmo's and my reaction is, Yawn. Yeah, yeah, it's cool that I can walk home from the bar, but it's nothing to write home about.
This weekend I changed my opinion. We had a bunch of people over for a low key night on Friday, no one was dressed to go out and no one had plans to pay a cover or high priced drinks, but eventually had enough of drinking, chatting, smoking cigarettes and playing quarters. What to do? Walk to Cosmo's!
We actually went to Lakewood Landing first, to grab a burger, but eventually landed at Cosmo's where we grabbed seats at the bar as opposed to a table which is the usual MO. We got lucky and came in before it got so crowded that you need a knife to cut a hole in the smoke curtain to get in.
What I liked:
Miss PacMan
Great Bartenders
Fatal Attraction was on TV (how random is that!)
MJ on the jukebox
What I didnt:
only one bathroom stall
smoke curtain
Overall, going to Cosmo's Friday night reminded me to not take my neighborhood gem for granted. I will be back!

I say four stars, because you can't go there without some guy in square rimmed glasses talking about you to some girl who would be a lot more attractive if she wasn't listening to him talk and learned the difference between vintage and thrift. All in all I catch a good vibe in the place. The bar area is an uncomfortable sit, because crowds gather and people tend to keep coming back once they walk away, ordering for more people everytime and secretly judging you for squatting on a stool in their lane, but that's the same most places.
I dig the couches and the lava lamps and the distance from the bar to the back corner, sufficient to feel like you're away from the crowd, but not so open as to make you feel like a creep for sitting by yourself staring at guys in square rimmed glasses and imaging that they are talking about you and judging the clothes they borrow from their grandmother.
For the most part the crowd is cool. It's the kind of place that takes all kind and the people are generally attractive and well put together. I find it pretty easy to start unsolicited conversations with strangers, which I think is important. The drinks are average in strength and taste. The bartenders are good for a chat on a slow night and show no signs of bartender/doorman disease when the place gets crowded.
All in all, I'd say check it out if you're looking for laid back, semi-scenester with the potential to meet new people or run into people you haven't seen in awhile. A good place to get into conversations that are easy enough to get out of, and by the end of the night you may end up buddies with Buddy Holly and his girlfriend, Ethel or Agnes, realizing that you are, after all, the pretentious one.

yep, this is on of my favorite bars in Dallas. I've had many great nights at this place over the years. Great pizza. Great jukebox (but they took out the Fu Manchu) but still have the Outkast.
Its all about Cosmos. The place is pretty straight forward so there's not too much to say about it.
Drinks are reasonable but a little light on the liquor sometimes, I normally have to get doubles. The atmosphere is great and everyone that's seems to frequent this place is friendly and accommodating. Cool seating areas and the best thing about this place, the Jukebox. So many good looking bars are ruined by those internet jukeboxes that seem to constantly play music from my reoccurring dentist nightmares. I just wish this place was closer to my house.

This place is cozy with a capital C! I love finding laid back bars in Dallas that still have a "Hey, let's party!" kind of attitude. I have had a good time every time I come here. Granted, I could have a good time with sand and a plastic bucket (who couldn't?!)
Anyway, yes good times here. Everyone is pretty chill and the drinks are all pretty tasty. I can't say that I have had an actual Cosmopolitan here, but I'm pretty sure my girl Karen has. She'd tell me if it sucked. Heck she might even spit it in my face. Kidding. I just wanted the visual. Ahem.
The vibe is uber cool with old school decor. I came here with a group of six and we were all able to lounge in front of the fireplace comfortably on the big couch. My girls are usually happy with the eye candy, and my boys usually have a hand full of their faves as well. Literally.. heyoooooo!

It depends on whom is working the bar, If Jackson is there you are going to get a good pour on your beer or a stiff drink. On other nights, I've gotten a beer that looks half full or empty depending on your life view. The jukebox is great. The pizza is great. The weekends bring the hipsters out, so be aware unless you enjoy popped collars and loud mouthed wenches. Go on a Tuesday night and you'll have a great time. I like the random movies that are on. It has a Clock work orange lounge vibe going, which is cool. All in all, it is a cool place.

Let's talk about crazy times with friends. Let's talk about going out to just one more spot. Let's talk about nights that went too far. Let's talk about blacking out. Let's talk about hangovers from hell.
Let's talk about Cosmo.
I've never left Cosmo sober. Hell, I could say that for a lot of places, but Cosmo (I've always called it Cosmo's... was I wrong?) has that way about it -- that telepathic beckoning when it's 12:30 or 1 am and you want to do that last bit of damage that will ensure that you're reaching for aspirin in the morning. Maybe you got those late-night munchies and you want a pizza (they're great, by the way) while you grab another round or four. Maybe it's time to switch from shots back to beer -- or from beer to shots! Or maybe it's one of those places that friends from different parts of Dallas can agree on as that LAST stop before you go your separate ways.
Cosmo is a cool, funky little spot! It won't scare the homophobes off like Grapevine Bar, it's not douchey like uptown and it's just far away enough from Greenville to not be directly affected by the traffic on a busy night. It's tucked right there on the edge of Lakewood -- next to the Lakewood Landing, which is another cool spot.
The old-school jukebox is great. Bowie, Prince, The Ramones, Neil Diamond, Michael Jackson and The Black Crows to name a few gems. The crowd is as eclectic as the music. Douches are rare here and have been spotted -- but they won't ruin your evening because you're all hammered anyway!
Behind the bar they usually run old VHS movies on an old-ass CRT TV. Last time I was there they had Day of The Dead on. They usually run it with no sound, but it just adds to the vintage feel that Cosmo has going on. Check out their collection of tapes behind the bar and make a request!
In the winter they have a cozy little fire place in the corner that's pretty nice. The seating is pretty decent, but you might be standing near the bar on a crowded night. Cosmo is very dimly lit and decorated with quirky mood lighting, which is perfect because my pupils are REALLY dilated by the time I'm there.
The only downside is no patio and limited parking.
I recommend Cosmo to anyone trying to escape the Greenville grime or the Uptown douchiness. It's comparable to Grapevine Bar but not as gay. Definitely a spot you'll catch me at right before the bars close.
**EDIT**
After coincidentally going to Cosmo's (it IS, in fact, named Cosmo's, not Cosmo) the night after writing this blog, I noticed a few things that I wanted to correct in my original review. First of all, that fireplace is fake, which is strange because I totally remember sitting in front of it when it was on... It was the warmest spot in the bar in the winter. But there were fake logs and a fake fire going when I saw it last night.
I just don't know about anything anymore...
Also, their "old-ass" CRT TV has given way to a "new-ass" LCD TV. They still have their VHS collection but I think it's just for show.
One thing stayed the same -- I didn't leave sober. OUCH! Feeling it this morning.

OK, I had another killer night at Cosmo's for the famous Nixtie's fab birthday celebration. I drank, I danced, we had group singing sessions and the waitress I haven't met before was SUPER nice and accommodating. She was always on it and made sure we all had drinks in hand.
However, I'm taking one star off for the other waitress. She's helpful, she brings you your drinks, makes sure you have them, etc. etc. but for some reason she hates me. Absolutely HATES me. I even apologized for dancing on the table the one time. Last night I tried to talk to her about another issue that she just assumed was me (even though there were many, many people sitting in our area) and she straight ignored me and walked away. She's always not smiling for some reason and it seems like she hates her job. What's the deal??? I would totally tip her way more if she was at least nice to me but from now on... I'm waiting for the other waitress or heading my ass up to the bar where the boys call me darlin' and say thank you when I tip them generously. If they split tips, I surely hope that miss surlypants doesn't get any of mine in a physical way... cuz I'll cast some bad juju on those dollar dollar bills.
Otherwise, I still LOVE Cosmos. And the still fabulous jukebox.

I've been going to Cosmos ever since I moved to Dallas. I do miss the days of living in Lakewood and having the option to walk home whenever I couldn't drive, which I exercised often! Now I live off Henderson and 75 so it would be a long walk but still not too bad of a drive! Besides having a kick ass jukebox they serve up some awesome pizza! Sundays are your best bet as all there pizza's are 1/2 half which is 9.00! The pizzas are huge and you can mix and match if they're not too busy. My favs (in order) are Italian, American (add Japs to make it a "peal harbor"), BBQ Chicken, Greek, Mexican, and Hawaiian. All in all the pizzas are fresh and you'll definitely have left overs! Also, dont bother calling ahead, just go and grab a beer or 7 from Jackson or Nick while you wait....hell, you may even be so drunk by the time your pizza comes out that you can just eat it there instead of carrying out!

This bar is brilliant. Good atmosphere, good jukebox, interesting decor, and most importantly - booze and fantastic bartenders to serve it. I love that I can show up there after work in jeans and a t-shirt and no worries, but I can also roll in proper Dallas club attire, and it makes no difference. On that same thread, showing up there with my friends the Saturday before Halloween was such a good idea. The patrons in costume were unique and it was fun jumping on top of tables and yelling things like, "raid the village, pillage the virgins", and not get thrown out or even asked to stop. In fact, I think we may have even been applauded.
Also, the jukebox here is one of the best in Dallas.
The only reason Cosmos is not getting 5 stars is because the women's bathroom only has one stall. Not good when you're 6 beers in and there's a line.

+ good pizza, nice place to chill
- unbearably smoky, not the greatest service
This place rocks! By far and away my favorite bar in Dallas. The people are nice, chill, hip, and lovin life without the airs that uptown requires. Everyone was having fun, no drama. The great decor (very 60s/70s retro, Austin Powers-esque) with a wide variety of different light fixtures was complemented by a snazzy jukebox, and nothing was played that didn't fit the mood: Weezer was actually played in a bar in Dallas! :)
The menu is not extensive, drinks on one side, pizza (which I hear is good) on the other. Tip well cuz you'll be back. love it!

I didn't have the luck to turn 21 in Dallas, so this bar escaped my attention when I was younger because...well, because I wasn't allowed inside. Or maybe it wasn't around. Either way, after having this place suggested to me by a friend, I decided to drive out to my old stomping grounds and give this place a once over.
I'm pretty opinionated when it comes to bars. Living in Philadelphia, where there's a plethora of great places to get drunk, meet people and if you're looking for it, get into trouble, will do that for you. When I drove by Cosmo's, I nearly turned my car around thinking I'd have better luck at The Cavern (one of the only bars I remember getting into when I was pushing 19 or 20) but curiousity got the best of me, so I parked my car and held my breath as I walked inside.
The lounge-ish feel and size of the place is a definite plus for someone that is used to having to fight for space in bars. (Of course, I came here on a Wednesday night, so I can't vouch for how crowded Cosmo's is on weekends.) The place was just dark enough to feel slightly seedy, but the TV and the mod inspired lights over the bar give the bar a tinge of glam, kinda like if you were to dress up your chain-smoking grandma in costume jewelry. Getting to the bar was easy and I was immediately greeted by an attentive bartender. The drinks flowed heavy and the other patrons were keen to strike up conversation and make an ex-Texan feel welcomed back in her home state.
Oh, and the jukebox. Hands down one of the better jukeboxes I've encountered while being home. I'm always kind of relieved when I walk into a place and find an older jukebox still kicking. It seems like every establishment in the world is replacing their juke's with those fancy digital one's that search for music for you and charge way more. Hopefully, Cosmo's keeps their simple one around.

My favorite bar in town. Everything about it is great.
I went back here on a Friday night...it was still a blast but it gets much harder to hear people and the smoke...whoa. I read some reviews about the smoke and didn't really see the problem. Well I went there on a Wednesday the first time. I had to step outside a few times just to let my eyes breathe. It was rough in there. I still absolutely love this place, but I think I prefer it on a Wednesday night when it's a little more chill and a bit less smoky. Still my favorite leg of the Trifecta.

I think I may have a new favorite bar.
Thanks to Sam for introducing me to the Lakewood Trifecta. I… Read more »
Man, oh man this is one place I will miss when I move next week...
One of the only bars in Dallas that has a true neighborhood feel, with kitschy digs to boot (there are Logan's Run and Mother, Jugs and Speed movie posters on the wall - oh yes!), I only take off one star because of the overcrowding on weekends (I think the metrosexuals must have found out about it - balls!).
Walk in from what looks like another nondescript strip mall on the outside. Immediately, you'll step into a small-ish bar space with dim, red lighting from what seems like a repository of retro, non-matching ceiling, floor and table lamps. Low slung couches, vintage chairs and decorations give this scene a very hipster vibe. Three snaps.
The much-lauded jukebox plays everything from classic Michael Jackson to Warren Zevon to Journey to Radiohead, and somehow it just doesn't get old to hear "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" one more time.
And even though the martinis ARE a bit overpriced, at least once in your life you MUST couch cushion dive, panhandle, or straight up steal $8 to pay for the ambrosia-like drink that is said bar's namesake. It is truly delicious, and more than 2 will definitely make you feel a bit like a superhero, which might not be a bad thing if it becomes overcrowded on the weekends (see above) and you must fly over everyone's heads to el banos.
Also, the pizza is one of the best hidden secrets anywhere in Dallas. You can order anything from Make-Your-Own and pick your toppings to fresh Margherita to Greek. The crust tastes hand-tossed, thick and fabuloso, and though utensils apparently are a mysteriously nonexisting commodity, there IS something a bit primeval about eating with your hands while avoiding 3rd degree burns.
Oh, did I mention the sit-down Pac-Man game in the corner? Yeah, there's that too. And it's awesome. And yes, you'll get sucked in for hours.
One correction:
Trent M., I mostly am kool and the gang with your review, but I must respectfully disagree about it being "the smokiest bar in all of Dallas." Though you make a valid point, no bar in all of the Metroplex, nay, the free world, nay, the not-so-free parts of the world, is quite as smoke-laden as the Lakewood Landing, just next door to Cosmo. I can almost guarantee the immediate need for a lung transplant after spending any time in that establishment, perhaps 2. In fact, I hear that Care Flight EMTs actually double as ID checkers there so that they can expedite this process. :)

Being that every single weekend I am either here or wanting to go here, I have to up my star rating to the highest because it is clear that I love this bar almost more than my own house. The surly waitress is even nice to me now because I practically live there. GOD I love Cosmos.

cool place..like everyone else said it's very laid back..good music etc.
unfortunately i just got off of work when my friends were going and i didn't have dinner yet :( i saw they had a menu (yay!) and they had pizza (yay!) i figured if they only had one thing on the menu it probably would be good (boo)
it's 10.75 for half and 18.50 for a whole pizza. my buddy JR and i were gonna split a half and we decided we should get the bbq chicken since it had the most toppings and meat (aka not a rip-off), the others were mostly just veggies.
anyway it was super crunchy or burnt. not too saucy. if it wasn't so hard it could have been ohkay, but not great.
it was actually someone's bday so one of the girls brought a cake and the waitress immediately acted all "omg don't get that the floor or anything" it was weird. also as soon as i bit into my pizza she was all, "um can you pay now?" dang.
omg and Van P is right, it is soooo smoky in there. My eyes were burning and dying.

I've been down here a couple times by myself and had a good time. People are friendly and it was easy to strike up conversations with people around the bar or at tables. I love the subdued lightning and comfy seats. The fireplace is great and the jukebox is filled with great hits. It has a very relaxing feel to it.
Drinks are a little on the expensive side. The pizza is supposed to be great and I had a slice from another customer and really liked it. I'll update once I go down again and get my own. Parking could get a little tricky when it's packed. It's right in the middle of the neighborhood so you'll find a lot of locals there who walked from their house.
