Review from Brian Y.
I've been here several times and have always had a consistently good experience. The interior of the restaurant is very nicely decorated. I was a little surprised during my most recent visit when I saw that the menu had been phyiscally changed to paper inside a plastic sleeve (think pizzaria menu style). The old bound menus seemed to fit the decor and style of the restaurant much better I think; the new menus just look cheap.
As for the food, Cosimo's offers pretty good portion sizes, and decent specials. Most recently, I had the veal scaloppine, which was quite good, as were the potatoes served on the side. Another person at my table ordered salmon, which was alright, though I think some of the flavors clashed a bit.
All things considered, a consistently good experience. -

Eh. As far as wood-fired pizza goes, this is about as underwhelming as it gets. It's fine, I suppose...perhaps they are catering to a more American-ized clientele, which expects thicker crusts and relatively flavorless pie? Whatever the case, I ordered their 'special' pizza - which was described as "chipotle glazed chicken, smoked bacon, red onion, roma tomatoes, mozarella and smoked gouda..." and figured I was in for a flavor explosion. It was...well...it was fine. But nowhere near what I was hoping for. If there was any chipotle, it was indistinguishable. Even the bacon seemed a little lifeless. How does one make bacon lifeless??? The wife went with a quattro stagione, and was similarly unimpressed.
The place is nice, the service was good (even on a busy Saturday night!) -- but seriously, Amedeo's in Lagrange blows this pizza away. Heck, I'd even rather have Giacomo's.Listed in: Eats around Po-town

Newburgh, NY
In October 2010, I dined here for dinner with my husband and two of our dearest friends, and I forgot to write a review. I was recently reminded to do so following my dining experience this past Saturday at Cosimos on Union in Newburgh, which was a VERY good experience.
Prior to eating at the Poughkeepsie Cosimos this past fall, I had also eaten there twice before during the year with a large group of co-workers, one other time with just my husband, and yet another time with three other friends.
This Cosimo's in Poughkeepsie has beautiful ambiance, but other factors associated with running a good restaurant business are lacking here. In fact, we had the unfortunate experience of being waited on by a very young, rude, snippy waitress that had gotten me so perturbed with her arrogant and poor attitude that I filed a complaint about her to the manager, via their web site, but I never received even an acknowledgment back. For this reason, I will NEVER go back there.
Compared to the Cosimos in Newburgh, I find the food quality and preparation to be just mediocre. The dishes that I've had (as well as some of the other guests that I've dined with) appear to be prepared in a rushed manner. And service has been less-than-stellar on most of the occasions.
Eh....... I won't go back after being treated rudely by our waitress. When you're hired to SERVE paying customers (who are being nothing but pleasant to you) it is absolutely audacious for any server to display any type of attitude to their guests other than that of a professional, friendly and gracious server. -

We have consistently used Cosimo's for our business luncheons and have never been disappointed. The service is excellent and the food is just what you would expect. The Ceasar was very nice, the pasta dishes are cooked just right and the specials are excellent. If you are having non-alcoholic drinks, they have never-ending refills. Maybe, since we are regular customers, we have never had the service problems mentioned in the other reviews.

Wow! You can't beat the interior of Cosimo's. Food is usually good with a couple of exceptions.
The chicken often tastes old and complaining does no good.
One time I ordered the shrimp pesto pizza (highly recommended) and one shrimp was bad (odor, taste). I mentioned it to our server who said NOTHING.
I filled out the survey and stated that I told the server about the bad shrimp and that she didn't know what to do with that information. To their credit, someone came running out to us before we got to our car and gave us a coupon for our next visit.
Nice restaurant. Just watch out for the occasional old/rotten food. -
Review from Karly O.

The atmosphere was nice. The place was clean and spacious.
As for the food and drinks ... Not so good.
I ordered a Pom Mango Martini (since that was basically all the waiter could recommend because they didn't have any drink menus for us to look at)... he brought it to me and I took one sip, and pratcially spit it back in the glass! It was the worst martini I've ever had. He kindly said he'd make me something else. Bringing me a Pom Orange martini of some kind, which was again ... Disgusting - but tollerable. I gulped down as much as I could, and left the rest.
The food was pretty good. I ordered a chicken blt with a side salad. The sandwich was really delicious! But the salad was literally just spinage leafs and onion. Not impressive at all. But, it was only like $8.95 or something, so ... Not too bad. ... My friends pastas on the other had where totally gross. Tasted like something you get out of the frozen freezer isle. **definitley do not get a pasta with red sauce from there!
The staff was very nice. But I will definitely not go back. Ever. -

I try and try again with this place. I give up. Does anyone care about anything? Service slow and generally unwelcoming. My pasta looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour, the pasta on the top of the plate was nearly petrified. Salads have about 4 times too much dressing on them. Everything is dirty. Does anyone care anymore?

I've been here twice for lunch during the work week and absolutely love it. On the first visit I had the half pizza - half salad and on the second I ordered the eggplant panini. Both were memorably delicious. The owners should bottle and sell the house balsamic vinaigrette and I can't help but devour all of the focaccia with olive oil that starts the meal. I'm looking forward to many more meals here!
For lunch, most sandwiches/pizzas run in the under $10 range. Highly recommended if you want to sit down and enjoy a meal with your co-workers - the service is so fast that you can easily enjoy your food within an hour. -

I wish I could sit outdoors at this wonderful restaurant. But God has different ideas. i find this very funny but every time i pay a visit to this place it rains.
The cool comfortable Tuscan inspired interior and great food and service soothes the pain of the elements. The pizza, especially the quattro formaggio, is superb. The Tuscan fries which almost always start a meal here for me and my family. and the pasta is very good.
The weather not withstanding, this resturant earns every one of its five stars -

The service may not be perfect here but the Sun-dried Tomato alla Vodka pasta is awesome. It earns this restaurant 5 stars. That is the only dish I have ever eaten here and it saddens me that since I graduated college, this restaurant is now 2 hours away.

Cosimos is what I like to call a dinner factory. The object of the owners is to serve as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time. Upon entering there is a very noisy bar area, which leads to a very noisy dining area. The point being don't come here for quiet conversation. We got a small basket of bread and a plate with two olives. While the menu was large it was mostly filled with pizza dishes and sandwiches. We decided to try the calamari. It was passable, but the calamari was chewy and the sauce had no flavor. A Caesar salad was actually quite good with a healthy portion of shaved reggiano. the main courses left a lot to be desired. A simple chicken parmigiana was burnt on the bottom with a pile of penne and red sauce that looked watery. A chicken dish that was supposed to be in a cream sauce tasted as of he chicken was from the night before and cut into cubes and thrown in. It actually tasted old. We were in and out in 45 minutes. I will not be going back.

We've only stopped here for their pizzas, which though small, are big on taste. The crust is paper thin but firm and crunchy and the sauce and cheeses are delicious. I'd like to go for dinner, but the high prices put that on hold for awhile.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Hudson Valley and definitely the best place to get pizza (La Grigliata with mozzarella is delicious!) The house salad with balsamic dressing is a great way to start the meal (I agree with the reviewer who suggests that the owners bottle and sell the stuff!). I was so sad when they closed their Kingston location, but the food is worth the drive.

wow...some friends and I drove a long way to meet up for dinner, and we came to cosimos becuase of the yelp rating...I think the people who wrote these reviews either work there or are insane. We got a bread basket when we sat down it had some pizza bread in it which looked great but turned to a mouth full of oil when you bit into it. There was regular bread as well unoiled so it wasnt so bad.
When our awkward but kind waiter came we requested to see a drink menu since we looked online and saw an extensive menu of martinis (the main draw of this place) and we're told they were "between drink menus" so we asked, does that mean we can't order drinks? and he's like I can make you any kind of martini you want! so my friend looks up their drink menu on her phone to show her which drinks we want, two pom mango martinis and a key lime, the pom mango come and its literally a vodka cran in a martini glass. I'm a vodka martini girl he tried to convince me it was mango vodka, it ws not mango vodka lol there may have been some pom in it but the drink described on the menu they didn't have said it had mango puree nad fresh juices etc...
so whatever, mine was fine my friend didnt like hers at all so we sent it back the waiter who was nice and slightly unintentionally amusing comes back with two shakers to pour her another drink...without exageration it took him at least 4 or 5 minutes to pour the drink into the martini glass to teh point where I was laughing at the table becuase it was so unreal.
Def, don't go for the drinks.
As for the food, mine was decent it tasted reheated like a meal that had been frozen that was stuck in the oven fro 15 minutes to rewarm there was little puddles of grease on the top of it which I dabbed off wtih a napkin but it wasnt bad.
they were nice about splitting our check, but I can't imagine ever going back here again. If we're in poughkeepsie again for decent italian we'll just to olive garden. -

this is the worst italian restaurant we have gone to. my boyfriend ordered the pasta with sausage. hidden in the pasta were tiny bits of ground sausage. not only were the sausage bits embarrassing, but the sauce tasted like store bought tomato sauce. my boyfriend ate a couple bites and couldn't stomach any more. i ordered the tortellini. granted it didn't taste awful, but it was the blandest, most boring sauce i have ever tasted. another dinner guest had the meatballs. they were soggy like dog food, and didn't even taste like meat. we were brave enough to try dessert after our disappointment with the entrees. we tried the homemade tiramisu. all i will say is, "not good."
don't let the nice decor of the restaurant fool you. think twice about dining here.
