I generally like Cosi, but the food at the train station seems a little below usual Cosi standards. For example, the carrots always look kinda old and the carrots I got the other day proved why....they had actually expired the day before!! That explains why they were all white and sorry looking.
The people who work here are very friendly and they seem to make the sandwiches faster than at other Cosi's but I guess that is why the quality suffers a bit. I do appreciate the faster service though because sometimes I am in a rush trying to catch a train. It's always so frustrating when you get super slow service at "fast food" places in airports and train stations, yet thats usually the case.
Cosi is definitely one of the healthier, fresher options in South Station which is why they continue to get my business. But just dont expect true Cosi quality when you eat there, and check the expiration date on the carrots before leaving the counter!! -

Leave it to me to talk about ice cream first...
Prior to dessert, I had a delicious lobster sandwich from Cosi - I think my first visit ever. The lobster sandwich is a seasonal special and for under $10, I was in love - definitely not a price you would find on the West Coast. There were generous chunks of lobster and the sandwich left me extremely full. However, I was determined to finish the entire sandwich, as to leave nothing to waste, and I did. Hey, lobster is not cheap on the West Coast and I try to get a lobster roll every time I'm in town! -

So when I think of the Cosi back in Jersey.. I think of a cute atmosphere with warm delicious food.. smores.. and loving my sandwich so much that I ask to get some bread to take home. Imagine my excitement when I see a Cosi's in South Station (the one in downtown is always closed when I pass it). Now.. I've eaten here a couple times before, but after this last trip.. never again.
It was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I was picking up my mom at South Station.. so I needed some almost decadent fast food. I knew, after Thanksgiving (and even during).. it would be nothing but healthy food while she was around (yeah I know.. I'm a sucka). So I thought.. ooh Cosi's. Bread products.. their Thanksgiving special sandwich with stuffing, turkey, and cranberry sauce.. nummy! The right amount of fast foodiness and a tad bit healthy (shuttup).
So how many guys does it take to make a sandwich? Now.. they have one to open the bread.. one to put the turkey in.. yet another to put the stuffing.. and of course one more for the cranberry sauce. FOUR GUYS. This has gotta be good right? WRONG. The bread is salty (or something) and bone dry. The turkey is almost slightly frozen and the stuffing is a couple touches below room temperature as well. The only thing I can vouch for is the cranberry sauce.. which tasted more like strawberry jam. If I had an appetite and could even bare to go back to the Cosi's stand.. I would have asked for my money back and a better sandwich. Blegh.. Live and learn. My previous sandwiches had been mediocre..I should have known. Never trust a place that doesn't know when a sandwich should be warm. -

Ok so I had to update this and knock off two stars. Service and quality has significantly declined in the last couple of months. They are often disorganized and the bread is stale a lot lately. I think they are pre-making it or something.
Also, I don't know if its the way they train people or if its a language barrier, but I've found that ordering takes way too long now. For example:
Me: I'd like a cranberry bagel toasted with plain cream cheese, please.
Cashier: you want a cranberry-orange bagel?
Me: Yes.
Cashier: you want that toasted?
Me: Yes.
Cashier: what kinda cream cheese you want?
Me: Plain
This has happened with a few cashiers and for very simple orders. It's annoying.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I like Cosi's. Only been to their Mansfield location, but the employees are pleasant and the food is good.
Only downside... Is it just me, or does the price seem a little steep for their sandwiches considering their size? I mean, I don't eat a ton of food at one sitting, but I could eat 2 of their sandwiches at around $7 a pop! -

Want healthy fast food that tastes decent that isn't a burger? Try this out!
Conveniently located in South Station, you can grab a sandwich to go in 5 minutes. They also have salads and fresh juice drinks.
I'm keen on the ginger chicken wrap. MMM GOOD. Yes, I think the chicken is processed, but what do you expect with fast food? They also give you a free bag of carrots or chips with the sandwich. -

I'm not a big Cosi fan: they're food looks deceptively healthy, and if you've ever been near the Kendall Square one, they can be a mad house as well.
This one is at least not crazy. It's too small to be crazy, as it's situated in the hustle and bustle of South Station, though it's big enough to have one of those oven things.
While it may not be crazy, the food is still standard Cosi fare: weird chicken cubes, weird spices, and awful chips (roasted pepper is not a good chip flavor). Also, my sandwich seemed hastily put together: it was basically a lot of stuff shoved into a piece of cut bread.
Considering the location and the other options in South Station, it doesn't seem too bad, but it's not necessarily worth it. -

I love Cosi, and the newest addition is a counter in South Station. The opening has been long awaited. and it's totally worth it. However, the only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because the lines are insane. However, according to the website, there is suppossed to be free internet...all the more to yelp with!

i got their vegetarian panini (or was it a wrap)? the bread was so thin it made me think it was a wrap but i think it was a panini.
it's never good when you're confused.
however, the taste was not bad. -

Cosi's friendly staff lured me in while I was waiting for my train back home. I tried their bread, which I must say was delicious, so I got myself a sandwich. I got the chicken with mozzarella, tomato, and basil. It was seriously lacking flavor and not that great. I might as well have just gotten subway...and paid less. Sorry Cosi, I'm just not that into you.

Certainly your best option for food at South Station. I initially didn't like the service - it was fast, pushy, and I left not enjoying the situation. Got back to work, and really enjoyed the food though.

I love Cosi's, but this location is kind of a double-aged sword.... It's convenient, but because it's convenient, the lines make it a bit inconvenient! :P

i like cosi as a backup place for lunch. it is yuppie, but also fresh and yummy. i usually get the signature salad or cosi cobb. mmmm
yes it's six bucks for a salad but that's what happens when you don't bring your own lunch. likewise for it being crowded. i've never really had to wait that long though. -

LOVE the Roasted Turkey & Brie sandwich (comes with carrots or chips). They have the best bread and salads! This location is not exactly the best one to go to, because it's always crowded, even in the non-peak lunch hour.

Usually the term "better than most" means something when you're talking about a restaurant as compared to other dining spots nearby. But in the case of Cosi in South Station, "better than most," while accurate, is a bit like hearing that the groin surgery you're about to have will only be minor. South Station is a wretched place for dining, with some places serving items that don't even look like food. Regina's is fine, and Au Bon Pain can be ok, but much of the food here is inedible, plain and simple. Having said that, Cosi isn't all that bad; it's just not all that great, either, and the prices are a bit high. The sandwiches are tasty enough and the ingredients are pretty fresh, but you are always aware that this is fast food and nothing more. But if you find yourself waiting for a bus or train and don't have time to go to nearby Chinatown (which is full of excellent restaurants), Cosi is, well, better than most.

this is not not NOT a review of cosi in general, but disappointment when i was expecting triumphant deliciousness. i love love LOVE cosi, specifically cosi bread. what goes in the bread, or what goes in the salad that goes along with the bread, isn't important. but that bread, that deliciously crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, salty, salty bread... so addictive. i used to stop in just to get bread. and i haven't seen a cosi since the one near the office where i used to work in jersey closed. so imagine my excitement when i wandered past this cosi at south station while waiting for my train! mmmmm, cosi bread..... i was expecting a fabulous reunion of taste buds and salty deliciousness.... but no. the bread was unsalted. fail.
