9 reviews for Cornichon
I happened upon Cornichon while having finished going to a gallery w/ friends on a Saturday night and was looking for a bar to go for quiet drinks to chat... there was nowhere on Bedford that was quiet, or that you could even get close enough to the bar to get a drink.
We turned down Grand and saw this unassuming storefront and I sort of loved that it was named in honor of a cocktail pickle, so we popped our heads in. It was dimly lit, did not have a pretentious vibe--yuppie, hipster, corporate or otherwise. It was 11 and it wasn't crowded either. We tried the specialty Lillet-monade, made w/ Lillet wine and mint and I have to say it was delish. At $9 each, I lingered over two. Never had a problem chatting w/ the bartender, didn't hear annoying conversations of anyone else. All in all, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for: quiet, reasonably priced, and with a little bit of charm (but not overpowering).
I will keep it in mind if I'm back in the neighborhood and recommend it without hesitation if you are looking for a quiet chatting experience. I didn't have any food and can't comment, but the wine selection was pretty extensive. Note: no hard alcohol.
My partner commented that Cornichon was "thoroughly inoffensive and unremarkable."
That pretty much sums it up. Cornichon was what I expected it to be, nothing more and nothing less. My wine was adequate. Our tapas were adequate but I've forgotten what we ordered already. I can't see myself heading back here on purpose. I could, however, see ducking in for a quick glass of wine and a small plate if I were walking by and Walter Foods was too crowded.
The time is perhaps not altogether too green for the vile suggestion that art has nothing to do with clarity.
Nothing to be done.
I went to Cornichon with a group of 6, and it was adequate. We were the only people there, but thought we'd give it a try, since the atmosphere looked nice.
The bloody marys were good, and the food was fine. I wouldn't mind going back, but can't say I'd go out of my way.
It's a cute place with potential though, and I hope it can work out it's kinks.
Went to this place for dinner.
They added some items to their small menu and fixed up the space quite nicely
Will def be back there with friends

Nice little French wine bar with some tasty french food to boot.
All the wines are from France as is the owner I met. (I think there are a few owners) Super nice people & some tasty beverages & morsels. Nice atmosphere & there's apparently there is good wine (I'm allergic to wine, but my companions said it was good), & it is my understanding that good wine is less than abundant in Williamsburg bars. Something different than all the kitsch factor in so many other neighborhood spots.
You get what you pay for, but u can get this at the supermarket for cheaper.
The charcuteri & cheese plate was big and only $18. But it was 5 supermarket bought cheeses. You got 1 crappy airplane serving size wedge of pre-sliced brie, and 4 square boring semi soft versions of swiss, no variety at all of cheeses, 5 bland semi softs. Come on read a book. Then you get a tiny little cube of pate. The meat was fine and plentiful at least, thankfully you can't really screw up prosciutto, speck and soppresatta. There are about 5 thin slices of apple and pear and some bread also supermarket bought. Oh don't expect the waiter to tell you what is what, he clearly doesn't know. Did I mention the cheese is served cold?
The past was linguini with garlic shrimp and pesto. It was plain fine. Bordeline overcooked pasta, and shrimp from the freezer section. This all was clearly bought at the C-town down the street, including the pesto.
$24 bottle of saviguon blanc which was a good deal. The wine was ok. We didn't get any recommendation or opinion from this obviously well informed gentleman.
The interior is uninspired, but it was dark so you didn't notice as much. If old wood doors made into tables, church pew seating and edison bulbs aren't tired cliche's you surely won't mind.
Don't expect any reaction to a complaint about that cheese either. 15 mins after politely saying we were disappointed he brought a saucer with a tiny chunk of gorgonzola, and another blue, maytag or something. blue, and 3 thinly sliced pieces of chevre. When did we start serving goat cheese in thin slices? Does anyone know what they are doing? Even their cornichon were too salty. You'd expect their namesake to be decent.
If u want somewhere to sip an inexpensive bottle of wine you're ok. But don't order any food. Aside from the rest of the boring menu of 5 uninteresting paninis and 3 entrees, the chance of anything being above boring is slim.
The waiter/host doesn't say thanks or goodbye on your way out. Probably because of your polite complaint about the cheese.
The 4 or 5 star ratings are testimony of the tasteless reviewers on this site.
This new wine bar and restaurant is the perfect neighborhood spot. Not only does Cornichon offer really nice but not too pricey wines, the French chef turns out tasty food for both brunch and dinner. But what makes this place special is its 3 French owners who are super-friendy and devoted to creating just the right warm atmosphere for a relaxed drink or dinner with friends. It also has a back garden that I can't wait to check out once the weather gets warm again.
A true brunch disappointment. We sat at the bar, which was a mistake. Behind the bar was cluttered with papers, bags, and wine glasses were laying every which way. It's hard to enjoy your brunch looking at all that mess. Secondly what a sad excuse for eggs benedict. They cooked the food on a hot plate out in the open behind the bar. The bacon tasted like it was microwaved and there was not a drop of hollandaise sauce in sight. Maybe they clean it up at night, but I'm definitely not going back for brunch.
