8 reviews for Corner Cafe
Corner Cafe is all that you would expect from country food. Chicken fried anything, noodles, gravy, meatloaf. All of its well made and hearty, no gourmet cooking here, not the best 'whatever the dish' but a nice selection of comfort food. Better than many well known chains.
The Caveat to this location ( Corner Cafe has to) is that it has a smoking section. If your looking for that go to this one if not go to the Liberty location.
I've never taken the time to do a review, but I feel this strongly about how terrible the experience was at Corner Cafe. We tried their relatively new Independence, MO location last night for a family birthday. We all enjoyed the Riverside location many times and were delighted that they opened one closer to us.
I've been married for over 13 years and I have never seen my husband react even remotely close to the way he did when biting into their fried chicken. He said it was rancid and that it was the worst fried chicken he had ever tasted. I'm pregnant, so I didn't try to verify. Luckily, I ordered something else. Three other people in our group ordered fried chicken too. They all had the same reaction and it smelled absolutely awful. They were very gracious about taking it away, but they brought another batch that was so-so. It wasn't rotten, but it wasn't good either. They were having taco night and clearly shared the grease for all of their items. In addition, the waitress said that they cook their chicken ahead of the rush. We would have gone to KFC if we wanted that level of chicken. To add insult to injury, they didn't even comp our horrible chicken meal after requiring their guests to wait the additional time to get the second round. No manager...nada!
My husband and two family members were sick all night! Hopefully, this is an isolated incident. Buyer beware! The chicken is not authentic made to order fried chicken nor are they going to respect their customers time and money.
This is 3 stars in a Denny's sort of way. We had an early breakfast (seems I was having a lot of those) with 'the boys' (nephews and uncles) at 6:30am. The usual fare you would expect, gravy on just about everything and I'm sure Tim Gunn will not be showing up here any time soon. What did catch my attention was the diversity of the staff. They were certainly not your ordinary trained restaurants types, but they were diverse!
I've only been to this place for lunch, but I'm guessing that breakfast is their specialty since my grilled cheese tastes like a burnt egg. The President also came here in Fall of 2007 to eat a biscuit.
This place is right by my work, so I have eaten a number of lunches here. While it's always busy, you never really have to wait very long for a table. The service is generally friendly and quick, so you can usually get in and out in well under an hour.
I've had the catfish po'boy a few times, and it is decent. I also enjoyed the grilled cheese despite the burning egg smell and taste. The one ordering mistake I have made is getting the daily special when it was taco salad. Who friggin gets a taco or a salad at a diner? Definitely my bad.
This place just feels dirty, with dirty overeaters filling up the inside.
We broke down and tried it out after several frustrating weekend mornings looking for a decent breakfast place downtown. I mean, how much can you mess up an egg and toast? This is how- throw a 12 inch black hair on top of the eggs. Then, put another one on another order going to the same table.
This place makes me want to hurl, which might be a good idea for some of the customer's. Gag.
Well, I think Corner Cafe has great sticky buns. The whole pecans on top are soooo yummy. The Riverside location is not my favorite because people are still allowed to smoke and that can ruin just about any place in my opinion.
Yes, this is the one Bushie visited a year ago and had a biscuit.
I've been going to this place for years. A restaurant with a farmhouse country theme, specializing in midwest fare. Good weekly specials: Italian one night, Mexican the next. They bake all their baked goods in house, so the rolls are fresh, the cinnamon rolls and sticky buns are divine. Be sure to try the fresh strawberry pie when it's in-season. Friday's pot roast is just like how Mom makes it.
Their breakfasts are pretty good as well.
The service has always been prompt and friendly. They are also quick to remedy any problems you have with your food.
been there twice, not impressed..... the food is bland, the servers are worse.
then i went to the other corner(debs)... and have eaten breakfast there(with crew, too) whenever i can... the servers are wonderful, the food is good classic breakfast food, the prices are just right.... and my cup is always attended to.........
