9 reviews for Corner Bakery
I just paid almost $5 for a "bowl" (more like a cup) of chicken noodle soup. That's it. No side, no drink, no nothing.
I hate myself.

Listen, do I think think it's lame that I'm reviewing a chain? Yes. Isn't this store basically just like all the others? Probably. Is there anything unique about this Corner Bakery? Nope.
BUT...
I just came here after spending 2+ hours on my laptop using their Wi-Fi while sipping a cup of Joe. This is near my house and I have come here before for lunch and for dinner. I have to say, I like this place. As I mentioned, there's no difference between this and the others, other than the layout, but the staff is usually very friendly and the food is good.
I sat in the back today, trying to stay out of the way of other customers who were buying more than just a cup of coffee. That and the fact that I spotted an easily accessible outlet to plug my laptop into. I overheard three employees talking. One of them was clearly new and was asking the other two about what temperatures the coffee, food, etc needed to be kept at. It was fun to overhear because you could tell that the other two employees really new there stuff - almost to the point where I would say they cared. And hey, if a restaurant has employees that definitely know the various temperatures you need to cook and store food items at, I think that's worth an extra half a star.
Plus, one night we came thinking they closed at 9, whereas they actually closed at 8. We ordered at like 7:50. Still the staff let us hang out and eat our food in peace and it wasn't until we were leaving that we noticed we closed the joint.
Wow. Which brings me to another topic. You know you're getting old when you write phrases like "We closed down the Corner Bakery" as opposed to "We shut down the bar we went to last night."
I need a drink.

Get here before noon if you want a decent chance at a seat.
I love their chicken tortilla soup, but nothing else thrills me. If I have to go to an upscale, specialty bread cafe chain, I'd rather go to Panera.

I frequent this Corner Bakery daily. I happen to work in the same building, and they give the company I work for 10% off our purchase. They have great food selections and filling porportions. I love the panini...
I eat at least 3-4 a week, and that needs to stop.
I read Angie M's review and she described Corner Bakery as a good for nothing ex-boyfriend (or girlfreind) you dumped in high school that you keep going back to and you're not sure why. I do however know why you have to come back. Its good fast food in convinent places.
One of my favorite specialties that Corner Bakery has is the Chicken Tortila Soup... Its like their serving an orgasm in a small paper bowl. Its a chicken soup very well seasonded with taco spices and served with crunchy fritos on top. This stuff is amazing. The only thing that is missing is more meat.... The portions of chicken in their soup can be compared to a can of cambell's chicken soup.
All and all great place to enjoy a quick lunch.

I am yet another who works in the building and so ends up here more than I care to admit. I will say that the staff here are genuinely nice people who do get to know the regulars and their usual requests, even so far as reminding me one day when I forgot something!
But one major issue I have with this place is that it is always FREEZING in there. I go for a very late lunch, so maybe the AC is still cranked from the lunch hour rush, but still. I've actually shivered in my seat while I ate. That's in the summer anyway. In the winter, it's usually also freezing, but at least you can justify that a bit more as people are naturally dressed more warmly and the door is opening and closing, etc. But in the summer? Come on. I certainly don't want to be hot in there, but they could tone it down with the AC.
And everyone knows the place is crazily overpriced, but they do have some really good sandwiches, that chicken tortilla soup really hits the spot some days, they have really good coffee, and their desserts, should you ever need to indulge on a random Wednesday afternoon, are extremely good.
Every so often I venture out to Corner Bakery, but never frequently enough to remember what I like. And so (true story) one time I ordered a Large portion of the DC Chicken Salad. I figured I would get a big bowl of mixed greens with apples, dried cranberries, topped off with succulent slices of julliened chicken. Very wrong!
I love chicken salad when it's done right, especially if it has apples, celery or dried fruit, maybe almond slivers, and here's the important part: on a sandwich! My large order consisted of about a liter of chicken salad on a lettuce leaf. A liter! For skinny me! My bad, my bad. I could barely eat it I was laughing so hard at myself, as was my dining partner! I'll be back CB, but only after studying your menu online, and having one or two Audibles ready just in case!

Used to be that Corner Bakery was a place to get really good, and I do mean Really good, sandwiches, but they shook up the menu and it's very difficult to choose anything on the menu, so I don't bother any longer.
Several of my co-workers continue to go there for their morning coffee and pastry, but more often than frequently do they end up going back to return or exchange something because the order was wrong or stale.
I've been to several Corner Bakery locations, but this one is really bad. I visited this location a few times before I decided to call it quits with them yesterday. Their eggs are always undercooked, their salads always have old and flimsy lettuce, and their sweets are really stale. Yesterday I had a cream cheese brownie, and it was really evident that it had been sitting out for a few days because the cream cheese had hardened in some areas and it tasted like spoiled milk.
I'll visit other locations because I really like their food, but I'll steer clear of this one from now on.

I will freely admit that the main reason we patronize this Corner Bakery is that it is right across the street from our office. However, the staff here are always friendly and quick - although it might have to do with the fact that we're in there twice a day, so they get to know us pretty quickly.
Coupled with the huge-sized free samples they put out in the afternoon, it makes for a fine place for coffee. There is ample outdoor seating if you are a smoker-type and want to puff away while pounding your coffee.
