15 reviews for CordeValle, A Rosewood Resort
One of CordeValle, A Rosewood Resort's Favorite Reviews What's This?
OMG! I LOVED CordeValle! You would not even know such a place existed in San Martin/Gilroy. CordeValle is by Rosewood Resorts and gives new meaning to "secluded luxury retreat". They have a private award winning golf course on site as well as Sense Spa and Clos La Chance Winery. I understand that if you are a guest at the resort, you will be allowed to play on the golf course.
We were in a "bungalow' and the bathroom was almost as huge as the bedroom! They also provide a wet bar and boy did we make use of the bar and refrigerator. After a full day of wine tasting, we returned to the bungalow for cheese and crackers and more vino!
The resort does not allow cars to the guest bungalows and the people who work at the resort are very pleasant and down to earth...not stuffy at all! It was easy to get someone to take us back and forth to Clos La Chance and to the main building as we also enjoyed their bar and restaurant.
The bungalow over looked their golf course and sitting on the teak patio furniture overlooking the golf course and rolling mountains at sunset with a glass of wine and cheese plate was heavenly. Especially with great friends and conversation.
I should also mention, they have like 300 TV and music channels for you to choose from!
We dined at their restaurant for dinner and the menu prices were quite affordable. $12 for crabcakes appetizer and $32 for beef filet is decent. My husband said his New York steak was cooked perfectly and very tasty. We sent compliments to the chef for the steak as it was a thick piece and the center was perfectly cooked.
This was a truly relaxing oasis to escape to. If you can afford CordeValle, you should stay every so often to rejuvenate and refresh and place life in perspective.

I've played CV three times now and it is a wonderful golfing experience. The clubhouse is brand new and is absolutely gorgeous. The driving range is one of the best you will ever encounter. The course is in magnificent shape and is ultra challenging. Each group needs a forecaddie - and they have been very nice and helpful. CV currently sits at #65 of public golf courses in the US.
My lone gripe? The cost is straight up RIDICULOUS! I've been lucky enough to play there in a charitable tournament each time and the $150 price was much easier to swallow than the $395. Sorry, but for that price, I'd rather just play Pebble Beach...
In the past I played here quite a few times knowing many of peeps who have worked here. Last week however was my first time playing as a guest, and it was an experience I'm not usually accustomed to.
Being a guest in my buddies foursome for the Youth Golf Foundation we played in the tournament with all the proceeds going to junior golf. It was a very decent rate that included lunch, free drinks, a caddie, 18 holes, a hat,, and a post round fajita bar. Much less than the usual $400 they charge for a guy coming in off the street. It is still considered a private club, even though they allow public play only to club guests paying $500+ for the fairway bungalows but they jack the rates so high who would bother seriously.
It is a difficult but very playable course, very fair and fairly wide fairways with lots of bail out spots. Rosewood resorts took over a few years ago from Auberge resorts, the same group that operated Auberge Du Soleil in Napa. Things don't seem so elite anymore, and I'm all for that. The staff is incredible, the really treat you right here regardless of who you are. Being in Silicon Valley you could be rubbing elbows with billionaire CEO's in the looker room and never know it.
As for the tournament we played horribly and I missed the closet to the pin by 2 feet which would have been two rounds. That's like losing $600! Also sprained my wrist on the next hole and wound sitting out the rest of the day. But all in all a great time, and we will be return again in August.

We ended a long trip through northern Cali with some relaxation. This place could not be more luxurious. The service and staff are superb. The bungalows are the size of an apartment. Everything you need is there including a cute winery. There is no need to leave and you probably wouldn't want to as the surrounding area is not attractive for tourism. This place is tucked away and once you arrive it is a grand oasis. Its also a golfer's dream or a fabulous spa trip for gal pals. Also incudes 3 hiking trails. LOVED this place.
Spent another Easter here at one of the fairway homes and I was in heaven. The bathroom is huge and has a whirlpool bath tub that I put to good use! The view is gorgeous and soothing. It was nice to retreat to the patio area and enjoy the breathtaking views.
We did have Easter Brunch here and the have a buffet style with eggs Benedict, omelets, fruits and ham and an endless selection to satisfy even the picky eater. Oh and Mimosa's too! They even had a special section where little persons(kiddies) could select the foods they wanted a big plus!
They had a small mini zoo corral which the children enjoyed. and a Bunny walking around to entertain the little ones.
I really love the staff here, because they are welcoming and not snobbish at all.

If you want a luxury experience and have to drive far for it...you must visit Cordevalle. It's a hidden gem in the middle of Silicon Valley...I was actually married there...and love to recommend it to our friends and clients when they are looking for a little R&R hideway....the spa is great...but the bungalows are the best experience!
"If you got the duckets, f#ck it!!"
I went here for my boy's wedding and I definitely walked away impressed. You can pretty much count on getting a complimentary golf cart ride to any part of this resort. And, if you're lucky enough, the young chap driving that 4-wheel-of-fun might let you drive it yourself.
Very attentive staff + beautiful scenery + a young couple in love = A good time had by all!

One of the best things about this place is that you could drive by and not even know it exists... It's nicely tucked away toward the hills and is exclusive as all heck!
We came here for our honeymoon weekend and were certainly pampered during our stay. The room, a bungalow, was gorgeous. As mentioned by other yelpers, the patio overlooks the golf course, and the fireplace can be turned on or off by the flick of a switch.
The beds are super comfortable, and I noticed that we were provided two types of pillows - one super fluffy and the other more firm (take your pick).
There is beautiful greenery everywhere - certainly the golf course but also the grounds itself is lush with beautiful plants and flowers. We made a trip to the Clos La Chance winery by golf cart and despite a wait, were able to get a free wine tasting in.
The free breakfast (included in our hotel room rate) was definitely worth it. I still winced at the price tag of the menu items but had no problems ordering what I wanted (a bowl of fresh berries, pastry basket, and crab enchilada with poached egg). The freshly squeezed OJ is probably the best I've ever tasted anywhere. Service was quite slow - the timing of the food left much to be desired.
I got two spa treatments - a classic massage and the Vitamin C facial. I loved both - everyone is super professional. Also, the women's locker room is top of the line.
The only time my "husband" (first time mentioned as such on Yelp) and I ever had to wait for a ride was when we were leaving and needed help with our bags on the way down. Yes, this place is pretty hilly - we always took the walk down and then usually got a ride up. We never had a problem with the service of the employees - always friendly, though not always super knowledgeable.
One final note - we had to gently dispute some items on our final bill that should not have been there (i.e. phone charge, 2nd spa treatment should have been 50% off, breakfast charge, etc.) but there were no problems fixing those items.
Why 4 stars? The price, the unfortunate disputes with the final bill, etc. - it wasn't perfect but close...
A word to the wise - this place is certainly not budgeted for everyone. At the price tag they charge, it certainly is an exclusive place. We were able to get a discount from the normal rates because of the Memorial Day weekend special they had. Would I stay there again? Absolutely.

I've been staying at Cordevalle at least twice a year since they opened their doors some seven years ago.
They literally have the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in. Better than any Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons. They all have fireplaces, huge bathrooms, patios overlooking the course and complimentary wine when you check in. It is absolutely beautiful beyond description.
So, why one star? Very simple: service. When the resort originally opened the service was impeccable. It rivaled or surpassed even the Ritz in Half Moon Bay or the Four Seasons in Santa Barbara. However, the resort services were taken over by Rosewood Resorts about 2 years ago. I've never in my 25 years of running businesses, seen anything like this. The service is absolutely deplorable. Anyone working there or managing this facility should be embarassed to say so.
Every time, and I mean EVERY time we needed a ride to our room (which otherwise requires a long walk up a steep hill and is not reasonable when your wife is wearing heels) we had to wait at least 10 minutes. When the bellboy/service people finally arrived, they had terrible attitudes and no respect at all. After dinner one recent evening, I walked outside to the bell desk. Three young men who work at the resort were playing with the outdoor fireplace talking about golf, women and drinking. All three ignored me completely. So I stood there to see what would happen. After listening to five minutes of profanities being bandied about, one of them finally asked, and I quote, "You need somethin'?"
After my latest round of golf I dropped my bag at the outdoor bell desk to be put in the luggage room at around 11am. When my meetings for the day were over at around 6pm, guess what? Yep, my bag was still sitting right where I left it.
Tragically, I have spoken with management on a number of occassions. They offer no apologies and consistently give excuses. (We're understaffed, the bell boys are new hires, etc.) They have never offered to make amends. Honestly, at $600 per night, I'm unwilling to listen to excuses. Unfortunately, I will be back in the Fall. If they manage to make things right, I'd be willing to change my mind. In the meantime, head to the Inn at Spanish Bay or the Ritz at Half Moon Bay.

Note: PRIVATE CLUB
I'll start with the bad news. This is a Private Country Club. However, if you… Read more »
The level of service here is unparalleled. There is an amazing number of staff waiting to open doors for you, run the valet parking, and make the pyramids of golf balls at the driving range that are just waiting for you to hit. (Note: they don't use range balls here, it's all top quality.)
The course is undeniably tough, but then I suck at golf even on an easy course. The sight of a forecaddy running out ahead of you to watch where you're hitting makes me feel a bit guilty to have them watch my atrocious play.
The best place to eat here is in the men's locker room, and yeah the name doesn't sound particularly appetizing, but this place is pimped out like nothing I've seen before with flatscreen TV's, a bar, food, reading material, and other amenities. I think it's designed for men who want to have a safe reason to get away from their wives.
The only drawback is its location. It's way the hell out there if you live in San Jose or its environs. I think that's why this club has been nearly empty every time I've been there.

"Gilroy Garlic Festival + Cordevalle = Bliss"
Gilroy, for those who don't already know, is the valley of garlic. And, for those who aren't garlic lovers, it's the site of the annual pilgrimage. Destination, the Gilroy Garlic Festival. The downside is that it happens in the dead heat of summer when the open valley is smokin' hot. With racks of misters misting, and rows shade tents shading, the heat can sure zap the joy out of a creamy garlic ice cream cone. All that said, during my last such pilgrimage, we stayed at the Cordevalle. Wow was that a smart move. After a day of fun in the heat, a short 5 minute hop across the valley and you are entering an oasis of wine country luxury called Cordevalle. They even have their own winery where you can meander as the sun sets and the air cools. Beautiful. Top that with 3 places to eat, a highly ranked full spa, gym, pool, golf course, endless private views, great suites, and you have nirvana. Oh! And a massage at the spa after a day in the dust gives new meaning to the phrase, polar opposites. You can't believe that hours earlier you were sweating like a pig at a garlic orgy.
But since I must review the food, the Cordevalle main dining room was fantastic. Not just "good for where you are" fantastic, but "good enough to stand up against top notch dining" fantastic. There were four of us and we all tasted all dishes (except for the one vegetarian).
Appetizers:
Caesar Salad - amazing home made dressing with freshly made croutons and local organic romaine.
Sashimi Salad - Only heaven knows where their amazing fish was sourced. I rarely taste such great cuts outside of top sushi dives.
Entrees:
Grilled Pacific Salmon Salad - This is enough to turn one into a healthy eater for life.
Rigatoni la Vodka - The Rigatoni was al dente, the sauce was crazy.
Prime Cte du Boeuf - This is where I started to feel like I was in heaven.
Roasted Garlic-Crusted Filet Mignon - This is heaven. Just a wisper of garlic flavor and a perfectly cook filet of a perfect cut.
Dessert:
Chocolate Praline Mousse Cake - Amazing
Chocolate Souffl Cake - Ridiculous
Swirled Tuile Cone - Stunning
...and the view was from an open patio overlooking the acres of beautiful hills, California Oaks, and rows of private vineyards. The perfect service made me want to skip the festival next time and simply drive up for a weekend at Cordevalle.

We went here to celebrate and to relax, and it far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a "villa," the middle tier accommodation and we got the unlimited spa services package, which was a much-welcomed overkill of massages and pampering.
The resort is best known for its golf course, which is truly beautiful, but we don't really golf so we mostly enjoyed the spa, the villa, the pool, and the restaurants.
STAFF: The staff were all welcoming, helpful, and accommodating. I read in another review that they had to wait a long time for a golf cart ride, we did not have that problem.
ACCOMMODATIONS: The villa was fantastic; beautiful furniture, well-kept, a fire place, lots of light, and totally serene. You open the sliding doors and can only see the rolling hills of the course and the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains below. The private jacuzzi tub and outdoor shower frosts the brownie.
SPA: The spa is small and could use a few more treatment rooms, but each of the technicians were excellent. Both the men's and the women's locker rooms were great, each with steam rooms, jacuzzi, and every amenity you could want. The manicure and pedicure room is not very modern in that they do not have spa pedicure chairs - they use the old plug-in foot tub routine - but I still got a good pedicure.
FOOD: We had room service and ate in the "dining room" restaurant. Both were great, and really well priced considering the surroundings. Breakfast came with our room rate so we ordered a lot and all was super tasty.
I am surprised I hadn't heard more about this place - it is the perfect special occasion getaway and it only took us about 20 minutes to get there! Very romantic and relaxing - something different from Napa, and just as special.
wonderful service and beautiful secluded setting. had a massage at the spa and was feeling great. ordered room service and the food good but was not as good as i had hoped (although they did set it up beautifully in our room) but i have heard that the restaurant is spectacular. maybe we should have gone to the restaurant instead of ordering into our room but was feeling lazy after the massage.
check out clos la chance winery around the corner =)
Beautiful, beautiful place! We stayed in a bungalow and they are the cutest... big bathroom and a view overlooking the gorgeous golf courses. Each bungalow has a little terrace with sun chairs on it and there is a fireplace in the living room for cozy nights. We did a day at the spa too and it was one of the best spa experiences ever!
This place is amazing. My wife and I stayed in a bungalow here, with a bathroom the size of our apt living room, a patio with a stunning view of a valley (and golf course), and a cozy fireplace. Everything was super luxurious. They even had a complimentary bottle of wine waiting for us on the coffee table. The attention to detail here is remarkable. It's the finest place I have ever stayed in, hands down. I would have given this place five stars, but for the fact that the WiFi access was spotty and the inconvenient setup -- the bungalows are a 5-7 minute walk outside and up a hill from the main building. This necessitates a golf cart ride to and from your room when you are hauling luggage. During check-in and check-out times, getting a ride might take a while. Otherwise, the place is great for a romantic getaway and highly recommended.
