I went for late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I had been here once before a few years ago. Wasn't too impressed then. They are owned now by the Rick's Barbecue people. They have expanded the menu to include barbecue and traditional BBQ sides. I had the catfish, of course. I stuck with the pintos, cole slaw, and fries. Comes with hush puppies. The fish good, the sides are better, except the hush puppies, which are greasy and too sweet. Fries are the hand cut style and were good. There are other places near by that do fried catfish better. My waiter was very good, attentive enough, kept my tea full, didn't rush me. The decor is kind of tired and needs updating. Lots of Hobby Lobby looking pictures and stuff. It was clean. The staff kind of acted surprised when I walked in, there was only one other couple. It was okay.

I wish I could give no stars to this place. First, it took us forever to get drinks, then they never got refilled. About 20 minutes after ordering drinks our waitress took our food orders. We didn't see her again until our food was delivered, about 35 minutes later. My infant son spilled my coffee and when we asked for something to clean with, we were handed 2 towels and our waitress walked away. I also didn't get any more coffee. The food was bad, but the service was worse. I would never take the time, and it was a lot of time, to go back and eat at this horrible place.
The service was bad the first time we tried here and we thought it might have been a fluke, turns out they just have a terrible wait and kitchen staff.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Russell G.Garland, TX6411877Jun 10, 2017
As we entered the parking lot we we were excited as it was packed.. but as we soon found everyone was going to Babes and not the Copper Kettle and now I know why.
The entrance floor was littered with trash and there were only 6 patrons in a place that could easily hold 300.
Our waitress promptly placed menus and walked off, no greeting or explanation. We ordered a 2 meat plate with a Salad Bar. The Salad Bar was generic and had a lot of variety that appeared to have been sitting so long that the some of the pre-made Salas's had a firm edge.
Then 10 minutes after ordering we received our meat plate of sausage and ribs. The ribs were non-seasoned and non-sauces. They also did not trim the protective backing on the rib. The appeared to be baked. The sausage was not fresh, it had a rubbery texture and appeared to be reheated in the microwave... which further made the edges extra chewy. We asked for some fresh sausage and it took them 20 minutes to deliver a plate of the same sausage that appeared to have just been dropped in a fryer.
Manager on duty explained it was her first shift and the "normal" BBQ cook was on vacation in Mexico and they were having issues- and she was sorry she did not know how to reduce cost???
In summary take your business like everyone else - and head next door to Babes.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alena S.Rowlett, TX15233431Apr 11, 2015
I have to say we almost changed our minds because we wanted fried chicken and didn't see it on the menu. Of course, Babe's is next door but they were packed with a bus load of people. Then we saw catfish plates being delivered, oh my. After talking with the owner (who makes sure to greet each table) we found out that he owned Ole Whiskers for over 20 yrs. He's kept all the same recipes for pinto beans, coleslaw, catfish and hush puppies. There's a nice salad bar too. His wife makes all the desserts including homemade cinnamon rolls every day. They also sell Amish Wedding brand cheeses & jams. I bought my dad a jar of plum butter that looks delicious. Give this place a try, highly recommend.

Had the catfish it was delicious! The chicken strips are tasty too. I usually dont like homemade fries but this place really knows how to make them they were crispy and cooked perfectly! The salad bar is great! But what made this place 5* is the dessert i had the fudge pecan pie!! I didnt know such a glorious dessert existed if you come here defiantly try the cakes and pies!! It was warm and gooey crisp and crunchy! It is my new favorite dessert! We will defiantly be back! The times on this page are wrong!! I would call and check when they close.

Stopped by today to use a coupon...place was pretty empty for the lunch hour on a Saturday...nice menu selection. Jalapeno casserole really good...so was the pea salad. Fish sandwich was tasty with the fish lightly breaded and without an overpowering fish taste. Brisket and sausage very flavorful as well...we'll be back!

Don't waste your money! Food is flavorless. Had the shrimp which was frozen out of the box shrimp. Was not fresh at all! Daughter had the chicken tenders which was more like Jerky! They were rubbery dried up small pieces of jerky with breading! Another daughter had the steak which was tough and desperately needed salt. Will not be back!

Went to the Copper Kettle for the first time tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Chicken fried steak and catfish were both very good. The jalapeno casserole was also very good. We will definitely be back.
