Nice early evening dinner here one day in August.  Menu selection was varied enough for all tastes, service quick and polite.  Food was better than we anticipated and portions were substantial -- we took home enough for lunch the next day.  Prices reasonable.  Ambience pleasant with good views over the streets of the town.  Overall a good experience.

We went there for my husband's 30th birthday lunch.  Late afternoon, cafe was very quiet.  We ordered coffee & tea.  I had a salad of lovely greens, a few pieces of goats cheese, fresh, sliced strawberries & grilled salmon on top.  Dressing came on the side (in a plastic container- not very classy).

My husband had a southwestern panini with fries & a bowl of clam chowder to start.

All of our food was really delicious.  The chef came out at one point to explain to the only other man that the seafood stew wouldn't be ready until dinner serve as octopus takes a while to cook.

Our waitress was nice enough, but you can tell they haven't worked in food service for long or haven't worked in fine dining before.

It was a lovely day out in the beginning of April & we could look out on the church's lawn & Main St.  If it had been warmer, we would have definitely sat out on the terrace.

As regulars to Noho, it was nice to try something new & have hotel dining be not only enjoyable, but have great food as well.

Went yesterday with two others.  We were seated in a corner facing the corner -- I guess if they'd put a chair in the corner facing out, we'd have been too much in the way, as we were right next to the kitchen. Our three meals were kind of hit-or-miss.

One said the french onion soup was the worst onion soup she'd ever had.  My angus burger tasted mostly of char, even though the inside was medium-ish, as ordered.  (Though not evenly cooked throughout.)  I don't even know how they did that.

On the plus side, the sweet potato fries (which are soggy many places) were thin and crisp, a BLT came on a nice light croissant, and a third entree of salmon on risotto was good.  The waitress was pleasant and fairly attentive.  And they take reservations, which is not the usual in Northampton.

Coffee: third diner said not good.  The green tea was Bigelow, second diner said not very good.  And they were out of two of the eight or so listed desserts.  The waitress said it was a "crazy weekend" -- but it was only Saturday evening.  And it was Smith College graduation -- did they not expect to be busy?  Makes me suspect they do not make their own desserts.  We skipped dessert.

Overall, I wouldn't refuse to eat there again if someone else wanted to (though I'd order something else), but it would not be high on my list of places to eat downtown.

Not super cheap, but the food is quite good.  I always thought everyone went to Wiggin's Tavern downstairs but I like the ambiance and views in the upstairs restaurant.  Classy but not pretentious.  I had lobster ravioli once that were very tasty and a good beef stew, don't know if they still have it.

And we sat next to Kurt Vonnegut.  He was wearing orange socks.

I asked for patio seating which was wonderful on a gloriously comfortable summer day.  The wait staff was pleasant and predictably made up of local college students.  I had the fajita vegie wrap - good choice!  Succulent vegies grilled to perfection with the right amount of fajita bit to it.  I ordered fruit as a substitute for bad carb choices and was given a generous plate of fresh fruit that may very well be locally grown.  I did get charged extra for it, but well worth it. Great meal, nice location.  No complaints!

Sigh. I really want to like this place, but out of three visits, I've had one miserable service experience (crying waitress, a 45-minute wait for a salad, and a manager who walked by our table in the crying waitresses section without offering a single word) and one miserable food experience (why am I paying for dried-out chicken breast on non-toasted stale bread? With no sauces or flavorings?)

However, it does have great outdoor seating, and it's not at all pretentious. I am sure that you can find good food on the menu; I've just struck out twice.

A friend of mine took me to this cafe along with two of her female friends.

The wait staff was excellent, very attentive. (In case management reads this review, your staff on July 11, 2010 at 4:46 pm should be commended for their performance. My server was Rachel and the bus boy was also excellent.)

The 4 of us had various giant salads and breads. And 3 great desserts that we shared. We also had wine, Mojitos, and Shirley Temples. We ate inside, in a corner looking out a beautiful bay window at street level.
We had a great meal in a lovely relaxing setting. It wasn't busy so we stayed for over an hour just talking and sipping drinks after dinner.

All of this, for 4 people, for under $85

Not sure when I'll be back in Mass. again but I will definitely go there again when I do.

The Coolidge Park Cafe in the Hotel Northampton is not at all what I expected!  It is classy, but not pretentious, casual, beautiful and the food is fantastic.  The high ceilings and large sunny windows make for a great atmosphere, especially sitting at the bar.  I had a summer salad of baby spinach, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, spicy / sweet walnuts and goat cheese with a vanilla vinaigrette...SENSATIONAL!!  So clean and sharp, perfect for a sunny summer afternoon.  The Lobster Bisque is a must try as well, I don't even like lobster, yet I order it almost every time I go.  My friends and I have eaten there a few times now and always had a great experience.

Any time we drive up north on Rt. 91 the C. P. Cafe is a must stop for lunch! Set in the Northampton Hotel the cafe over looks a small park. Salads, sandwiches, burgers and more are innovative and prepared with fresh ingredients, and served by freindly and attentative waiters. (we ate at the bar) My wife had the chef chopped salad with tomato based vinegarette and I had a chicken salad sandwich that included home made coleslaw and hand cut french fries. We each had a glass of house wine and  spent about $23.00 with out the tip.
