I recently went to Continuum for a deep tissue massage after buying a certificate on Yelp. I was really impressed! Here are some things I liked:
--They were very friendly on the phone and got me in right away. I didn't feel at all stigmatized because I had a discount certificate (as sometimes happens).
--A 60 min massage means a 60 min massage--the time we spent talking before hand and after was not included in that time (which meant I was there about an hour and a half total).
--Also, after my massage she spent quite a while going over stretches I can do to keep my neck loose.
--The place is very convenient, well-appointed, and comfortable. -

I had my first experience here today and will definitely come back for other services. Andrea did a great job with my wax. I also really like that they don't use waxing strips, but use hard wax instead. Its a lot less painful than the strips and seems to have irritated my skin much less than the strips. Also, I looked around before booking here and the price is average for the neighborhood.
They were also very courteous and accommodating. They took my coat and offered coffee & water. They also allowed my infant to come into the room with me, which was great as a stay-at-home mother. -

I've gone to a few massage parlors in the city and this one, by far, is the best. I left completely satisfied and relaxed. I believe the guy who worked on me was named Jeremy, but as I was leaving the only cards I could see were for a guy named John... so I'm not entirely sure what his name was.
Regardless, I recommend Continuum highly and the fact that it's only a short 3 block walk from my front-door just adds to it's awesomeness. -

I hate to write this review because I really like Continuum. I would give the location a high rating with super friendly staff (both in person and on the phone) and a very soothing, warm envionment.
However, I had an awful massage by Jeremy. He seems like a really nice guy so it was more the technique than anything. I had seen a couple of positive reviews on yelp for him so mentioned it to a friend and we both had a massage by him within 2 days of each other...and both had an identical (and bad) experiences.
I get monthly massages and was pleased when he started off the massage by asking me for some background and what areas to target. But I didn't like the warm up where he used no lotion and pulled on my skin. I told him that I wanted to target specific areas in neck and hamstring with deep tissue for sports and while he did spend additional time on those areas, he just didn't do it effectively. I don't like someone to kill me with pressure but properly target and kneed muscles. This is much my fault as his, but he NEVER stopped to ask me how the pressure was, whereas most massage therapists ask me a few times during a massage. I feel this is critical to have this communication, but it just didn't happen. Again, I could (and should) have said something, but I felt my comments would have to go into technique rather than pressure so didn't say anything.
My friend had the same experience where he felt that it wasn't deep and didn't feel like he actually was getting any knots out or really targeting muscles. -

I visited Continuum recently for massage therapy and several facials. The facials were an emergency - I had spider bites all over my chin and arms. Andrea did an awesome job of treating the affected areas along with providing the rigors of an expert facial. All the while, she was describing what she was doing to my face and why. Awesome hand/arm/shoulder moisturizing and mini-massage. No heavy pressure to buy products. My face is healing nicely, and people aren't staring thanks to her miracle work. Jeramie did fantastic work - his technique is up-to-date and is customized to your requests/needs. He addressed problem areas just fine. I was surprised with the late Jan. 2012 review and the low rating. Successful massage therapy requires dialogue on both parties. I have no troubles with Jeramie in the conversation department. If there's something that I need more work on - or he needs feedback, I give him the appropriate feedback. He does super work - I want deep tissue, and he gives me deep tissue. He's wonderful with the appropriate stretching components of the massage, in light of the major reconstructive work I had done on my arm and shoulder in the 70's. Sosch is also fantastic as is Yasmine. Haven't had a "bad" massage there yet. The staff is friendly and the environment is welcoming and warming. I would recommend the services to anyone. If it's not to your liking, let the staff member know asap or if you must, let the office front desk associate know before venting online.

Love every thing about continuum studio! The entire staff is great and I have never received a bad facial or massage.
The receptionist is always friendly and so helpful. I had to return numerous products because of an allergic reaction and not one person at continuum studio acted like I was being annoying (and I was!). I have received amazing facials from Andrea. I have seen a couple massage therapists here and love them all, particularly Yasmin. I hate spending money on a massage and it being anything but relaxing and effective.
I have never regretted receiving a service at continuum studio! -

John "Sosch" the massage therapist at Continuum took care of me! I was suffering from a neck strain injury for a week, and had limited neck movement and was in lots of pain when I walked in. An hour later, I was nearly cured!
Now, the deep tissue massage is not for the faint of heart-- it's a real athletic massage meant to work out the kinks. It ain't no tickle-me-elmo day at the spa. He really knew where the muscles were and knew how to feel the tension levels from my post-race injury, like a true professional. I'm someone who gets massages once in a while to relieve stress, and I usually just jump around from place to place, depending on where I might have a Groupon, but those days are over. Once you find someone who really knows what they are doing, stick with them. I'll be back! -

I have been to Continuum Studio a couple of times now for waxing and I have been impressed so far. I like that they always use hard wax. The rooms look nice and seem to be clean, which after working in several spas myself, I can tell you is not always the case. I am very picky about where I go for spa type services as I am a massage therapist and have spent time working with estheticians and nail techs and stylists. I know what to look for to know whether I should come back or not, or whether I should leave before the service takes place. I plan on scheduling all of my waxes in the near future with Continuum.

Really nice place.They sit you down in the waiting room with dimmed lights and give you delicious cucumber water. I had never been massaged by a guy before but Jeremy made sure I was comfy and did a wonderful job on my first hour long massage.
He has warm hands and a ponytail, what else do I need to say? -

Wonderful friendly, professional atmosphere that is calming from the minute you walk in the door. The receptionist is delightfully warm and the appointment process simple.
I had a 60 minute signature massage with Jeremy and he really knows exactly the right touch and varies it as needed. The stretching in this massage left me relaxed and invigorated. -

I've always been nervous to get a facial because I have sensitive skin. But when I found out that Continuum Studio uses a lot of Dermalogica products (a brand that I trust) I decided to just go for it. WOW. What an amazing experience! From now on, I'm definitely going to get seasonal facials from Continuum Studio.
When I arrived I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist who had me fill out a health history form and offered me some cucumber water. Andrea then came to greet me and told me that she'd be giving me my facial.
The treatment rooms are very spa-like. The table (which I'm assuming is the same one used for massages?) was SO soft and SO comfortable. I told Andrea what my concerns were (dry, sensitive skin) and I could tell that she had a plan!
My facial was very relaxing and very soothing. It was an hour long and included an upper back massage, hand and arm massage, and most of the treatments were also applied to my neck and chest. My favorite part of the massage was towards the end when she massaged my face with smooth chilled stones. I don't know what they were but it felt amazing on a hot day!
I will definitely be back soon. My face was so soft and plump with hydration when I left. Thanks Andrea!
P.S. I didn't experience any crazy product pushing during my appointment. She recommended two products for me at the end of my service but when I politely declined, the receptionist gave me samples! -

Sad to report, but I had an awful massage. The owner assured me when I made the appointment that Corrina, the therapist, knew how to give a deep tissue massage.
Now, I've been getting massages every couple of weeks for over 15 years - and I'm very athletic - so these muscles need their work. However, the massage I got was NOT deep tissue. It seemed that the therapist didn't have much experience palpating muscles, or knowledge in how/what the muscles attach too.
And while I was getting my clothes back on afterward, she knocked and came in the room to ask me many, many questions about how the massage was and did she do all the things she said she would. I think she might be over-thinking things!
However, she was VERY SWEET, and tried very hard to do what she thought I wanted - so A for effort! -

You know what they say about a massage therapist with large hands -- (no you dirty minded people) they cover more surface area!!! Love supporting this business. Andrea is my esthetician-guru -- can never go wrong with her for facials or brows. Been coming here for the three years I've lived in Chicago and they keep me coming back!

Came in for a quick brow wax on Monday around 7pm, got an immediate appointment after the requisite glass of cucumber-flavored water and filling out forms. Andrea was very thorough, gentle, and gave me a more rounded brow arch that makes me look slightly less devious in pictures.
I liked the wax they use, it smells piney and natural! I also like that she didn't miss any strays, but that my brows don't look artificial. Nice job! -

I received a gift card for an hour signature massage and express facial and it couldn't have come at a better time. I recently lost my dog of 12 years and made the appointment for some relaxation therapy.
The staff is very friendly and I got a great vibe as soon as I walked in. The massage: AMAZING! A combination of deep tissue, Swedish, and stretching. I've not had many massages in the past and the experience seems intimate and slightly uncomfortable at first but the therapist quickly put me at ease once he started.
The facial: WONDERFUL! Again, my first facial. It was extremely soothing and relaxing. My skin felt great.
Overall I left feeling exactly how I wanted to: relaxed, rejuvenated, and glowing. I will definitely go back. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 is because I have no other similar experiences to compare it to. -

Another user compelled by the power of Groupon here. Awesome visit today at Continuum. Erica took great care of me, explaining everything she was doing because I've never had a facial treatment and it was intriguing to me.
The vitamin hand treatment was nice as well. Continuum is a lovely place, but a bit on the high end of my price range for self indulgent treats like today. If you can afford it, and/or need facial treatments I recommend it. I'll back before the end of winter that's for sure but visits will be on a can afford basis.
Visit them, especially if you enjoy spa visits. Ask for Erica! -

I had a fabulous facial with a multivitamin hand treatment thanks to a Groupon with Erica. I will be a returning client!!!
Located in Andersonville (my hood), parking can be found on the street (challenging though), this lovely spa is fully stocked with great staff, 4 wonderful rooms for their services in a very relaxing ambiance.
Erica explained the process, used fantastic products and did check in with me to ensure my overall comfort. I really loved everything she used on me and would strongly recommend her and Continuum. -

I decided to start of the New Year with a smooth face, relaxed muscles, and not break the bank for it all. Yes you heard me smooth face, I got a facial for the first time and I wasn't worried about losing my man card because I know plenty of guys who get them so there... and the fact that it was fantastic so I don't care. The facial was surprisingly relaxing and it helped soften the beard. The massages ended up being more of a deep tissue then a Swedish but apparently I needed it. This man dug so deep into my muscle I thought they were going to separate from the bone. He worked out every single inch and I can't thank him enough for it.
The shop itself really isn't that big and can easily be missed from the street. The inside has that tranquil feeling that spas do (I don't know how the people that work there don't fall asleep) and is extremely clean. The staff is professional but relaxed enough to joke around with you. I cannot recommend Continuum Studio enough and with the price deals they have on their website, you almost feel like you are stealing.Listed in: Andersonville

It pains me to write this review, especially because of all of the good reviews on here. I came away from here disappointed. I came here last week for a massage, as Continuum was a part of the Spa Week promotion. The massage ended up being pretty bad. I wanted a deep tissue massage and I can handle a fair amount of pain, but it was some of the worst pain I've experience while getting a massage and for the next two days after. I told the therapist three times to ease up on the pressure as it was too much, to no avail. I think I was more tense when I left than when I came in. I, unfortunately, didn't say anything else afterward (a little too passive, I guess) because I thought that maybe it was just because of all the knots that had been worked on. The next 2 days were worse, even with all of the water I was drinking and the Advil I was popping.
The good news is that the staff was very friendly and mostly professional. I just wish I would have enjoyed myself better. My stars are a toss-up. I want to give them 2.5, but maybe I'm missing part of the equation? I may go back here -- just not any time soon. -

I went for Spa Week and got a facial from Deanna. It was a very relaxing experience.
I was treated to some pleasant surprises that I don't want to divulge so as not to ruin your experience. You have to love a place that pays attention to the details.
Would have given 5 stars, but I didn't pay the full price for my facial so I can't judge the place on value. From the menu, it looks expensive. But then again...I'm frugal. -

I can't believe its taken me this long to review this place. I've been here almost a dozen times for both massage and facials and have never been disappointed. My favorite treat is getting a signature facial with Asia. I've been getting facials for my problematic skin since I was 12 and hers is the best. She explains what she'll be doing right at the beginning so you can relax without a long conversation. She also incorporates her own soothing light massage while your mask sets- definitely a plus if you ask me! My skin has definitely improved since beginning my treatments with Asia. Highly recommended!
I've been to three different people for massages, and have enjoyed them all. It seems that the salon gives its therapists enough freedom to administer their own techniques while still providing a high level of service. If your back is just a mess and you need a very therapeutic massage to get things worked out, ask for Will. My back hurt for 2 days after wards, but my problems have been next to nil since then. I had a mini massage with Johnnie the owner today as part of their March add-on special and he did a wonderful job incorporating pressure points and aromatherapy into the 30-minute session. Very relaxing while still getting the tension out of my neck and shoulders.
Bottom line is that this place is great: not too froo-froo, not too too expensive, and really friendly. Give it a shot- your skin will thank you! -

I LOVE this place! I first came here an eyebrow wax and LOVED that she (I think her name was Deanna?) explained every step in the process to me! Since it was my first time getting an eyebrow wax, I was bracing myself for a painful experience. To my surprise, the process was basically painless AND she did a great job of shaping my eyebrows!
I noticed that they offer private spa parties, so I thought that would be a GREAT Christmas gift for my mom and two sisters. It was very awesome because they closed down the spa for 2 hours and treated us to all kinds of wonderful food, like chicken salad sandwiches, argo tea, wine, tres leches cake, and a veggie tray. The package included two 30 min services, so we got the facial and the mini-massage. Aisha (sp?) did my facial and she was also great since she explained every step to me! I loved the products that they used.
My massage was from Johnnie, the owner, and it was SO wonderful and relaxing. Since it was only for 30 min, Johnnie told me to be sure to come back for the whole hour! ;)
My mom and sisters all loved the experience and thought it was a great gift. Everyone here is so incredibly friendly. Definitely stop by to check it out!Listed in: Primp and Pamper Me

I think this is a place where you can have an excellent experience, but you have to get over the sales lady at the front. My husband and I went to Continuum before our wedding to get facials and relax and we had an exceptional time.
The owner that we met, Johnny, was very sweet and I felt good about supporting him and his business. My facial, by Monica, was very good. I actually bought the skin care products (dermalogica) this time after my facial and it has made a difference for me, which is saying something. My massage was very nice; Mark seemed quite knowledgeable and he worked to make me comfortable as it was my first massage -- and he succeeded.
So, why didn't I give it a full 5 stars? Because of the chick at the front counter. She is a very pushy sales person and her enthusiasm is completely superficial. I can't stand it when people are full of s**t. She fawned all over my husband and me -- seriously!! -- and when I went back in there two months later so my mom could check the place out, the lady at the counter didn't even pretend to try to figure out who I was when I said I had been in there before. It bummed me out that she was so unfriendly and weird (obviously this has something to do with my psyche and nothing else, but it impacted my experience there). My mom couldn't stand the woman to the point where she almost didn't sign up for a massage. Enough said about the poor chick at the counter.
So, overall, I'd say GO!! Johnny and the staff there are totally worth supporting and the place is really beautiful -- wait until you step past the curtains!! Just ignore the chick at the counter if she irritates you and when you leave, be careful, because she will have EVERY product that was used on you lined up for you to buy (and will act like she expects you to buy it, which is her job after all). -

My husband bought me a massage and a hand and foot treatment for my birthday and it was wonderful. Everything was very relaxing and I felt completely comfortable the whole time. My massage therapist (David, I think his name was) asked me a ton of questions before we started and applied the perfect amount of pressure and focused his energies in all the right places. I've received two follow up calls to see how I'm doing (I know this is just marketing to get me back in, but it was still nice) and a note in the mail.
The only issue I had is that the woman who did my hand and foot treatment was kind of cold the whole time. Very clinical. Since that part of my visit was so short, I only took off one star as the rest of it was very pleasant.
I will definitely return here for my next massage! -

I have started refering to Will Courtneys massage therapy as magic. I have some seriously painful back problems and during my 90 min massage he managed to fix quite a few of them. When he said it was deep tissue body work, he wasnt kidding. The massage worked out alot of the tension in my shoulders and low back but with alot of pressure.

I've been to Continuum several times, both for bikini waxing and massage. My experiences have been mostly positive here, but there are a couple of reasons I am only giving Continuum 3 stars.
Let's start with the good: I always try to get in with Asia for waxing because she is the best. I have been to other places for waxing as well, but no one has done a better job than Asia. I have sensitive skin, and she is very concious of that and is always very profesisonal and gentle. The only reason I ever tried going elsewhere is because I felt the pricing at Continuum is a bit steep. However, after trying out a couple other places, I've realized that you definitely get what you pay for. So I don't mind shelling out a few extra bucks knowing that I will be taken care of. If this review were just about Asia and her waxing, I'd give her 5 stars.
Now the not-so-good: There was one time I was in a pinch and had to see another esthetician for waxing. I wish I could remember her name now, but it is escaping me. Anyway, I could tell she was very busy because she was rushing through everything. Maybe it was because she was in a hurry, but she didn't do as good a job as Asia. She was also not quite as professional, trying to make random small talk and joking with me as I'm laying there with no pants on. It was a bit weird and uncomfortable.
I've also had a massage at Continuum. Again I can't remember the therapists name, but he was friendly and professional. I did feel that the room was a bit cramped, and it got stuffy in there during the massage which detracted a bit from the experience. Other than that, it was a good massage. But definitely not the best I've ever had.
For the most part, the reception staff are also very friendly and professional. I did have one experience with a scheduling snafu. They put my appointment in the wrong week on the calendar, so when I showed up, they couldn't get me in. They did take 20% off my service to make up for it, but didn't tell me they were going to do that until I returned a few days later. Bravo for that, but I was annoyed getting turned away and telling me about the discount right then would have helped.
The bottom line is that I will return to Continuum for waxing services, but only if I can get in with Asia. She is worth the expensive price because I know she will do a good job. However, the next time I need a massage, I'll probably try someplace else. -

Everywhere I have ever gone for eyebrow waxing or threading has left me red and puffy for hours after wards. Not so with Continuum. Jenny did a fantastic job with my eyebrows, she paid attention to my sensitive skin only waxing where needed then plucking and trimming the rest. I have never left an eyebrow grooming so clean! I had no puffiness or redness and for that reason alone I will be going back and paying a little more than I'm used to to not look like a three headed monster for the rest of the day.

I had my first facial here the other day, and overall, it was a great experience.
The environment was incredibly relaxing, and I enjoyed a hot cup of tea while filling out my forms.
Both the receptionist and my esthetician, Asia, were friendly and helpful. Asia explained much of what she was doing and why, but other than that, she did not push the conversation, and I appreciated that.
I also found it helpful to have a "how to" list written up for me for the products they used and were trying to sell me. If only I had the several hundred dollars to drop on it! I did end up taking home the powdered microfoliant she used, and its wonderful.

Very clean and relaxing environment. I liked how friendly everyone was. Be careful though, they are all about selling products and will ring something up before you have the chance to say you don't want it. Prices are a bit steep for the location. Oh and the waxing hurt like hell!

Just got home from the best facial i have ever had and I have had a few.
besides how wonderful, and thorough Andrea was-there was none of those secret extra treatments that seem to sneak in during a facial. you know-think it will be 90, then is 125 because the astestician decides you need a treatment (probably did but you know,..)
the facial was great, the products were top notch, the service was high class.
also...the sheets on the bed were the SOFTEST i have ever felt. really, the softest.

I've been coming to Continuum Studio since they opened and I'm a loyal customer. I highly recommend Deana for waxing and facials. I see her probably every 3 months. She is gentle, efficient, and very fun to chat with. Also, she will get quiet when you need in the middle of the facial. She recommends great products for your skin, and will even recommend stuff you can buy at the drug store so you know she has your well-being in mind and not just commission from products. I love the products they carry from Dermalogica to SkinCeuticals. And, they regularly run specials - I usually get the "Buy 3 waxes in advance and get 10% off each of them" or I just got the "Buy 4 waxes in advance and get the 4th free" What a deal!
Asia is also very good (and the other reviewers have mentioned her, too) but she no longer works there. :(
I have received a massage there once, I'm not sure of the name of the therapist, but it was just OK. If you want a stellar massage, I recommend Suzette at Urban Oasis on Maple St - she is phenomenal. -

Got myself a great facial here, thanks to Groupon. Honestly, what's there to say? The spa is soothing, the facialist took her time and did a great job, and my skin still looks and feels different - in a good way - several days later. My only criticism is that the multivitamin hand treatment, which was billed as being something really nice and fancy, took all of 20 seconds (a quick rubbing-in of oil) and seemed like a waste of time. I wouldn't pay for it, that's for sure. But otherwise? A perfect facial experience.

My first experience at Continuum, and it was stellar! I went in fir a brow wax, as the girl I previously went to recently moved. Time to try a new place! Andrea was amazing. I got to lie down and relax for a painless, professional brow wax that looks great! The girl at the front desk was great, too. She offered me a cold glass of water on a hot day and was very welcoming. I will be going back again and again. May try a facial sometime soon.
