I ran over here from Paramount to buy some Penaten cream (German diaper rash cream) - which worked like a charm. The fact that they stocked it, an item only available in Canada and Germany, made my day.

I couldn't say much for the food, but it smelled REALLLY good. If La Habra weren't like 200 miles from the nearest freeway, I would go back to eat here. Maybe someday haha.

Killer sandwiches. Amazing pastries. Real German ladies making authentic German cuisine.

What a find!!! We live in La Habra and stumbled upon this deli bc we were on a trip to Michael's (next door). We were surprised to find the deli had a small eating area and a waitress. I believe it's owned and operated by 3 generations of German ladies. Every sandwich comes w potato salad (shredded potato not mashed -yum!!) and a pickle. The roast beef was awesome but the Ruben was out of this world (I don't like sauerkraut but my husband does. SO good I stole 1/2 his sandy and abandoned my roast beef to the kids.)

We ordered cherry strudel for dessert and it was AMAZING!!!! When she came to check on us my 4 year old unabashedly told her that he didn't like it (gulp). I tried to smooth it over my assuring her that my husband and I LOVED it and so did the baby and so he's just out of luck. LOL Minutes later she brought him a chocolate thumbprint cookie that he went WILD for and everyone was happy.

We took another bag of thumbprints and ANOTHER pastry home w/us - the marzipan potato. OH.MY.GOODLINESS. I can't stop thinking of my lunch and have to post these photos to FB and tell all my family about this heavenly deli!!!!!!

I've always went to Michael's but I never noticed this place!

Well I went with my boyfriend recently after reading such fantastic reviews on yelp. The store was quite empty, just a few customers getting something togo. The seating for dine in is where the tables are and only the togo customers order from the counter place.

    We ordered
Cornbeef sandwich my first time. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! It's pretty simple just some bread and meat...which they give you ENOUGH so you don't feel like you've jss wasted money. side of A pickle and SCOOP of potato salad. Boyfriend ordered the pastrami sandwich with white bread. His was good too but I think mine was better haha. The total was about $14 and I  was so full i had to take my other half home. no drinks.

The people that work there are very nice. Always so smiley and they even gave us samples of the cornbeef! she did not lie about being "DELICIOUS" I'd definitely come back.

Oh the whole POTATO SALAD thing.. i mean it was GOOD but not like ...CRAZY GOOD. haha only my opinion though, I think I've had better.

Good food but I wish it were cheaper.  I got a corned beef sandwich, which came with stealth potato salad and a pickle and it ran me about $7.  I say stealth because when the woman handed me the brown paper bag, it seemed so small that I figured maybe the potato salad only comes with sandwiches ordered for dine-in.  Luckily, I did get some, but it was just a little bit of salad in a paper muffin wrapper with a pickle wrapped in paper.

The corned beef sandwich was very yummy and did not taste fatty or anything to make me feel guilty.  I ordered it on wheat bread, which is just bread from a standard loaf that you buy at a supermarket.  The potato salad was good too!  I just wish they gave me more of it.  And it was cool because it was made with potato shreds, not potato chunks.

The best sauerkraut around! The side potato salad and pickle are excellent. We have never been disappointed. The market has some standard German staples to take home along with the deli specialties. Great imported German beer as well...At the holidays the special soft filled ginger cookies come in! to die for.

I hate Subway.  I've hated Subway for a very long time.  Those five dollar footlong commercials?  Lame.  I'll have you know that each one of those sandwiches tastes like it's coated with Jared sweat.  And don't even get me started on that yeasty "freshly baked bread" smell that emits from each location.  Ick.

Which is why when I want a basic, "just enough" lunch, Continental Deli does the job.  I've never actually called it by the official name though.  My co-workers and I all call this place "The German".  That's because it's a real German deli, complete with German speaking workers and an adorable little grocery section full of delicious German beer, breads, and candy.  Yum!

Each sandwich costs $5.75, and you get a pickle and a little side of their famous potato salad to go with.  The salad is really creamy and gets its smooth texture from the use of a potato ricer.  The spicy deli mustard offered at your table will complement your choice of meat nicely.  They even have a "wiener" sandwich on the menu.  It actually says that.  Why does this make me laugh?  Oh, because I have the sense of humor of an eleven year old boy.

For a tasty treat, sample one of the chocolately pastries or a slice of apple strudel.  I have also purchased some hand made aprons and smocks here.  This snazzy denim number I bought last year really drives the boys wild.

I've only been here a few times, but it is definitely a memorable place. I remember the first time I came to this deli I got confused as to which door to come in because they have two doors. One is for the restaurant portion of the deli and the other is for the grocery side. But upon taking your first step inside, you get hit with a smell of sauerkraut. That's right, this is a German deli.

They have all sorts of German goodies to buy. You can find spaetzel, sauerkraut, struedel, and all other wonderful treats. They even have German magazines. This place is definitely true to its ethnicity. Some of the daily specials include a Bratwurst plate. The prices are reasonable too.

On my first visit, over a year ago, I ordered a salami sandwich on sourdough. I was bummed because if I wanted cheese I'd have to add .50 to my order. But the sandwich is only $4.95 and came with a side of potato salad and a dill pickle. Like Rachel T. says, they do have amazing potato salad. It's unlike any I've ever had before. This deli actually uses shredded potatoes. The consistency is very different from your typical potato salad with chunks of potato. There is also a creaminess to the potato salad that I've never tasted before.

This trip I ordered a ham sandwich. Same as before the price is $4.95 and comes with the same sides. What I like about their sandwiches, is that they pile on the meat. But it's not so huge that you can't wrap your mouth around it. The lettuce they put on there is shredded with lots of mustard and mayo. Their dill pickle spears are just tart enough without making your mouth pucker.

All in all this is a great place to get a sandwich. They have hot plate specials too that run anywhere from $5.95 up to around $7. If you're looking for German baked treats you can find them here as well as homemade sauerkraut and lots of sausages in the meat case.

Family owned and operated.  LOVE this place.  German deli but they have meats from everywhere...everything from the best and most fresh bologna you've ever tasted to blech (but my ex loved it) blood sausage.  They have cheeses and homemade salads (like German potato salad, etc.).  You can get your meats, cheeses, breads and desserts to go or have them make a sandwich there!  The stuffed cabagge rolls are yummy and I ALWAYS get a cup of the soup...lintel...yum!
SUPER cheap...lunch (whole sandwich with cheese, cup of soup, refillable soda) usually comes out to be around $6.  Add some streusel...apple's the best and it's maybe a buck more.
Pick up a German magazine or some Harabo gummy bears on your way out!
    xoxo Continental Deli!
PS Odd hours...maybe call to make sure they're open.

I was hoping that the German Continental Deli had delicious pastrami/corn beef.  But not remotely close to New York delis.  Very dry meat.  Also, should have more meat in proportion to the bread.

However, I'm giving them 3 stars because their meats are much, much better than the Pastrami and Cornbeef from Togo's or Subway.  Also, my husband liked their sandwiches a lot.

Sadly, the New York delis are so delicious that I can't eat any sandwiches here in California.

I was craving a German Bologna sandwich and turned to good ol' yelp for help.  Normally I travel to Mattern's in Orange for my fix, and found this hidden gem just up the street from my home.

When I bit into the sandwich, it reminded me of Mattern's.  Ironically, that's because the meat was from there!

I'm not sure how many of their cured meats are from Mattern's, and Continental does not have as big as a selection as Mattern's, but if you need a Mattern's "fix", this is my 2nd choice!

The price for a sandwich and a side is $6.  Ok, I hate to compare it to Mattern's (which you can get a sandwich, drink and side for less than that) but convenience and location is still key!

Would I come back to Continental?? For sure!

Oh sweet jesus this place is good. I LOVE German food, so I was so happy to find this place. Honestly, it made me as happy as a kid on christmas morning to see all the different german grocery items (and I walked out w/ more than a few!) as well as a nice little deli and dessert counter.

I got a corned beef sandwich on rye bread, and it was perfect; could not have been better. It came w/ potato salad, which was equally good, and a pickle. My friend got a Knackwurst sandwich, which he was very pleased with. All told we ended up walking out w/ several different kinds of cakes and streusel, sauerkraut (fresh from the deli & amazingly good), headcheese, a couple different kinds of jellies (including quince jelly which I like, but almost never find) and rye & muesli bread to spread it on.

The woman behind the counter also shared her secret for goulash w/ me :) The staff were all very attentive, friendly, and more than happy to let us sample some of the foods.

Oh, they also carry a few german beers, but I didn't really notice which ones since I don't drink.

    Potato salad!!! POTATO SALAD!!! Wait... did I mention: P O T A T O   S A L A D ~
This is a German mom and pop shop (as far as I can tell). They sell a variety of German goodies (its a 3-parter store: tiny grocery/tiny deli/tiny restaurant). The sandwiches are simple and sweet. I think extra charge for lettuce and tomato and all those other fillers. They serve other German yummies in the restaurant part of their store. But I have yet to have eaten there so I can only mention what I have eaten and I have eaten: potato salad. Its so good~ Its way good. Its worth the price.
For every sandwich (I think) you buy, it comes with this little white package of a half brined pickle and a single helping of potato salad. The potato in the salad are not chunks but thin little slivers. Like in hash browns at your local Ihop or Denny's (not McDonald's or Burger King). And I don't know what goes into it but its creamy and yummy and... I bought a pint last time I was here and it last 2 days with hard restriction.
When I come here I get a corn beef sandwich with just mustard. The corn beef is thinly slice but they give you a hardy helping in the sandwich.
The service here is nice and comes with a smile. I especially like the little marm behind the desk. She has a German accent and makes you feel warm and fuzzy.
They also have a pastry counter with lots of yummy goodies. Apple streusal and German chocolate cake and lots of other goodies I don't know the name of but I know are good cause I ate them.
So eat here. Cause its good. And cause I said so. ^^

    Old School German Deli=Achtung Baby!

What I love about the Continental Deli is the old world vibe and quality sandwiches that make you wonder how Subway and Quiznos stay in business.

Old fashioned rye or pumpernickel breads topped with corned beef, pastrami, or bratwurst. Add your favorite cheese, mustard, dressing or sauerkraut and you have a quite a treat. When asked to choose a salad, I suggest the German style. It is served warm with dill and it will make you rethink mustard/mayo based styles. Finally, the deli pickle add the final bit of specialness you want and need.

If you are a fan of Chimay or Spaten, you can enjoy a glass with your meal. The price is right and you will have something to smile about after you leave.

The menu is as small as the deli, but when you do the simple things right it's hard to argue with their recipe for success.

Ahhh..Continental Deli! I love this place. I remember my brother would take me here when I was a kid, I think I've been going to this restaurant  (and their old location) for 25+ years.
It is not a fancy place, mainly a deli but they do serve hot food that is wonderful old style family recipes freshly made. There are a few tables in the dining room.
They have an amazing potato salad, probably the single item I miss most about living in the area. Each time I go back I find this deli exactly the same as I remembered it from the last visit. I even think the same ladies still work there from when I was a kid. The food is always great and the service is always friendly.

    Potato Salad. The best!

Get the one that is made there, not the others. It's fantastic.

Lots of different deli meats, bologna, various German sausages.  Two or three kinds of bratwurst. Also pastries, German beers, other drinks, and German newspapers and magazines.

Go on a Saturday afternoon when they're starting to close up for the week. The ladies behind the counter  get a little loose (more than the rest of the week) and there's a lot of joking and talking and probably some Schnapps being consumed. Very nice, and friendly folks and very good food.

3/22/08 ADDENDUM: My wife and daughter had to go to Michael's (the craft store) a few doors down. I went over to the Deli to get something to drink, it's still the same. While waiting to pay for my Snapple, and looking at all of the sausages on display, WOW! If only I was thinner and younger, boy, would I have a good time! Same ladies working, same clientele, GO! You won't be disappointed!

I guess if I eat here two days in a row it's worthy of a review!

This is a cool little German deli packed into the corner of a strip mall. Odd location, very little atmosphere, but I like the mom and pop feel and the food was really good. And I would much rather support a mom and pop shop over one of those generic sandwich franchises...

Yesterday, I had a simple bologna sandwich and today it was the corned beef.  Both, with cheese, potato salad, a pickle and a soda, came to $9 bucks. I think that's a little pricey for a sandwich, but the food was really good. The bread was really fresh, the meat was tender and very flavorful, and the potato salad was awesome!

Great little spot in La Habra if you are in the neighborhood.

I love the German cold-cuts!   Schenken Wurst (ham bologna) and German salami are my favorites.  Nuenberger sausage is good & garlicky.  Old-school, family run deli with great service.  Not as much selection as a bigger store like Old World in Huntington Beach but Continental is the only one in La Habra area.  May be hard to find because they are tucked in the corner of the retail strip.  Just look for the Michael's craft store and you'll see them.  Damned wish they would be open on Sundays!  Now if they only would serve the German beers then life would be great . . .
    Give them a try!

I went there for the first time when Border's around the corner was too packed to study. I was hungry and needed to study, so I went to Continental. They were SO friendly there and the turkey sandwich is really good. and just like everyone else, the potato salad was to die for. it's really homey, nothing fancy or pretentious about it. the deserts are great, too. i love how it's only minutes from my house. They didn't mind that i was there for a while, studying, but i'm sure they enjoyed my business 'cause i kept snacking... even AFTER my lunch. haha. it's a great place.

The sandwiches here are really yummy! The workers are friendly. I love the fact you can sit down and eat restaurant style, or just order your sandwich and take it with you. The price is good for the taste and what you get. The only downfall is that they charge $.50 extra for cheese. The potato salad is sooo unique. It's so good! Definitely a new favorite of mine and would take a sandwich from here over Togos or Subway anyday. Not a huge variety, but there really isn't a need to be. Simple = perfect.

The only day we can eat here is Saturday, Monday through Friday they close by the time I get off work, and they are not open Sundays. The decor is like grandma's house, old wooden chairs, painted pastel sceneries lol it's quite interesting. The food is pretty good, you've got your sandwiches and a few german treats. I love to order the bratwurst plate, comes with bratwurst, saurkraut or potato salad & rye bread w/butter. The bratwurst is grilled to perfection and has that awesome snap to it, just lovely. The saurkraut is very good, fresh tasting. The potato salad is unique because they shred the potatoes into itty bitty size, it's good, but weird good you know? We always order navy bean soup when they have it, you have to get there early or they run out quick! One day they ran out of lettuce... I don't know, don't ask. The service could be better, we always get the young lady that doesn't smile so much, she just seems like she doesn't want to be there if you know what I mean. If you really want to splurge make sure you order the root beer in a bottle, it's got bite to it... perfect compliment to the bratwurst.
