Review from Albert L.
I took a trip here on my way to Omaha and it was well worth the de-tour. It's slightly off the 80 and you must stop in! It definitely has an old school feel to it that you don't see around anymore. The owner greeted me and will tell you what he recommends - the hot dogs of course!
I ordered 2 hot dogs with a side of fries. The real treat was the owner telling you stories and showing you pictures from back in the day. He has a real passion towards life and his business. The hot dogs were delicious as well. There are some places that you root for to do well, and this is one of them. -

Okay, I read the reviews and decided I had to try it. I've gotta say, I don't get it. I don't get it at all. mediocre small hotdog on a bun with some sort of meat sauce and old raw onions. warm soda in a bottle. The milkshake my son had was pretty good. All in all I just don't get the draw of the place. My son and I shared an order of fries (soggy and greasy) he had a grilled cheese, me a coney dog, milkshake and soda and spent $15!! Frankly, I'd rather have a hotdog at the Sam's Club cafe anyday.
I think maybe it's one of those places that brings back childhood memories or something but for me I just don't get it. -

As the highest-rated restaurant in Grand Island, I had to make Coney my lunch stop on a recent work trip. The price ($15 for 2 people) was definitely right, and the coneys were amazing (as was the vanilla malt I indulged in on a whim). The fries were good too, but I'd recommend skipping in lieu of another dog.
Plenty to look at while you're grabbing a quick bite up at the bar. This place obviously has a lot of history behind it and food that's stood the test of time. -

Yeah it's a pretty good coney. Go for the service in late afternoon when no one is there, and sit around listening to Gus tell you stories about the old days. He'll talk your ear off.
The fries are great as well. Unbelievably low cost. Think i paid $5 for a coney, fries and a beve. -

This place haunts my dreams. I grew up eating the coney dog's at Gus's diner. They are magnificent. If his kids run it as he did, then it is still magnificent. The chili is homemade, with meat ground so fine it's almost like powder. The buns are steamy and squishy. Every coney dog is topped with chili, onion and mustard - that's it. Fresh homemade fries on the side. I haven't been to GI in about 15 years, but I would make special trip just to have a couple of coney dogs.

Coney dogs - delicious! This place is old school and charming. I even bought a t-shirt last time I was there! It's a short drive off the highway but well worth it on the long trip across the midwest.

Absolutely the best coney (chili) dogs you will ever have. Sauce mustard and onions, don't even THINK of asking for ketchup (except for wonderful home-made fries). And it's true, Gus and his son George will remember you even if you (like me) hadn't lived in GI or been to Coney Island in years. Truly a Class lunchroom, if there is such a thing
