Bread. Sandwiches. Cheese. Bread. Cheese. Sandwiches. Cheese. Sandwiches . Bread.
Really, everything you need is right here. And it's DELICIOUS. -

I went to Con Pane because a friend had posted beautiful pictures of their bread. I was excited to order the Almost Grilled Sandwich and was not disappointed at all! Be sure to add the tomato! I also brought some bread home. The gorgonzola/walnut/onion bread is to die for. It sounds like a strange combination but it works! The mozzarella/tomato was great, too. Definitely five stars for the delicious flavorful breads.
The reason I took a star away is the service. Unlike the other posts, the servers were nice & cordial. Friendly would not exactly be the word. This place exudes that just-be-glad-we-let-you-even-buy-our-precious-brea d vibe. What got me was when I waited in line along the glass display, one server behind the counter walked by two different times & grabbed cookies with her bare hands. Then when the woman in front of me ordered a cookie, she picked it up with the bakery wrap paper. Why? Just for the illusion of sanitation? -

Soooooo slooooow.
Soooooo noisy.
45 minutes to get one sandwich.
While slowly going deaf as every uttered word by every person reverberated off the hard slick concrete floors, hard slick windows, and hard slick tables (no fabric anywhere).
The sandwiches are good, but just not worth it. -

Great place for a sandwich and coffee. Must try PB&J, Almost Grilled Cheese and Chocolate rolls (available on sat & sun). You won't find a better sandwich in San Diego!
It's a busy place so consider calling in you order in advance to reduce wait time.
Oh, their Cinnamon Rolls are Stupid GOOOOD! -

I came here on a Sunday morning before work at 10:30ish... within 15 minutes the place was packed (didn't know it was next to the Rock church)! But there was a short line that moved very fast and we had our sandwiches within 15 minutes- EXCELLENT SERVICE!
The coffee was delicious and we got the turkey cobb on the rosemary and olive oil bread and roast beef on ciabatta! I took my first bite and couldn't get over how fresh and delicious the bread was! The meats, cheeses and other ingredients paired with the bread made both these the BEST sandwiches I've had in San Diego!
Worth the drive and I will be a very regular customer to this place! -

Love love this place great bread, great sandwiches and love the almond roca ice latte. Yummy. Yes it can be slow so don't be in a rush. Give this place a visit.

I actually like simple reviews, well because they are quite simple. It is my day off today, and where will I be? Con Pane! With a book in 1 hand and a slice of THE BEST BREAD in San Diego in the other, I will be a happy boy.
No debate hear, Simply the Best Bread in town, true to its roots.
Great Staff!
Great Owners!
Great Service!
Great Environment! - although the noise of the planes tends to annoy if outside; so, just sit in.
Best Bread! -

Oh man! Can't believe I didn't find out about this place sooner.
The turkey cobb sandwich on olive rosemary bread is definitely worth driving across town for! The bread is thick but fluffy and not too dense. It perfectly compliments the fresh turkey, avacado, and bacon. It's hard to resist eating the whole sandwich even though it looks huge.
I've also tried the roast beef sandwich, which is good, but pales in comparison to the cobb.
There's not much more to say other than GO HERE! If you like sandwiches, you'll love Con Pane. -

4.5 stars
Living in DC for the past two years, my plans for my yearly/twice-yearly visit to San Diego always involved California burritos, carne asada chips or some sort of yummy Mexican meal seriously lacking here on the East Coast. Until now. Ask me what I look forward to eating on my trip home, it's Con Pane's chocolate bread.
Available only on the weekends, their chocolate bread is available in slices, loaves or mini buns/rolls. And it is phenomenal. Bread is doughy with just the right amount of chocolate both gooey and (if you're lucky) crusty/crispy.
I've also had their grilled cheese, cinnamon roll and fresh-squeezed OJ -- all pretty good. Their coffee is just so-so; I brought SBUX with me the last time I was there; otherwise I'd give the place five stars.
Plenty of street parking plus a lot across the street. Lines can get long but it can move pretty quickly. Pleasant staff. -

Sometimes I imagine what my ideal day of meals would consist of. Breakfast and dinner varies, but lunch is always, always Almost-Grilled Cheese at Con Pane. The three cheeses! The rosemary bread! My mouth waters just writing about it. And I'd have a peanut cookie for dessert- they are amazing as well!
The Liberty Station location is less picturesque than the old one, but definitely roomier. Eating outside on a sunny day is heaven.
My only complaint is that they're not open on Wednesdays (my only day off during the week) and weekends are super busy. But still highly, highly recommended! -

Bread perfection.
I've never been a fan of Bread & Cie - their breads are just too tough and hard for me, but at Con Pane, I am in heaven.
My husband and I carb-overdosed on our first trip there. We bought $30 worth of food which fed us for 1.5 days. Not bad indeed.
Here's what we got with the tastiest listed first
(1) Chocolate Bread - omg. Do not order just one, whatever you do. You'll regret it. At only 75 cents, this is a must. Hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide them chocolate bread, foolz.
(2) Half Grilled Cheese Sandwich on Rosemary Bread - the cheese tasted like high quality and the rosemary bread is divine. I thought I had the best recipe for rosemary bread but they have me beat.
(3) Half Salami Sandwich on Kalamata Olive Bread - best olive bread ever *and* they use kalamata, which is one of my favorites.
(4) Vanilla Shortbread Cookie - thick, buttery, but delicately crumbles when you bite into it. Fantastic.
(5) Raisin and Hazelnut Bread Loaf - delicious, but a little chewy. I recommend microwaving this for a minute and then popping it into the oven for 15 minutes, if it's a little stale the day after.
(6) Coconut Iced Latte - the right combination of everything. Not too sweet, not too strong, and perfect amount of coconut flavor.
(7) Brioche Cinnamon Roll - I'm not too big a fan of the brioche type of cinnamon rolls, so I cannot say that this is my favorite. But it is good. I recommend trying it in general if you are a cinnamon roll junkie.
(8) Pear Scone - this was the only miss as the pear was completely overpowered by the rest of the scone. I'm very particular about scones though and the only ones I like are at the Westgate Hotel. However, I do think the scones at Specialty's in the La Jolla area is better than Con Pane.
Overall, because I like the sandwiches better, I have to say that Con Pane is better than Specialty's. I haven't had any cookies so can't do a comparison between the two.
What I love about Con Pane is that they seem to have mastered different and tasty combinations. The type of olives or chocolate they use are not mere afterthoughts, but combine with the bread magically to seduce even those with the greatest will power.
Do not go anywhere near here if you are on a diet. You will fail my friend.Listed in: Point Loma Tasties

My family is obsessed with this place. I grew up in a pastry oriented home, and the scones and brioche twists here really make the cut. They make brioche cinnamon rolls!!! The whole roll is the consistency of the oozy middle part of a regular cinnamon roll- total heaven. They make great sandwiches from any of the breads that they have baked that day, and their latés rate above Starbucks in my opinion.

I knew I was in love when I walked into the doors of that fresh baked rustic breads...SO aromatic. As a first timer, I went with the Turkey Cob Sandwich ($7.65 for a whole). The sandwich is filled with deliciousness - roasted turkey, applewood bacon (for the pig in me), avocado, gorgonzola cheese, roma tomatoes, mayo, and lettuce.
Oh, and that cinnamon roll is sinful, but ridiculously delicious after a few seconds in the microwave and an ice cold glass of milk. I'm dreaming my way back there now. -

YUM! We were passing by and looking for a quick stop for some breakfast. My Yelp App sent me to Con Pane with all of the 5 star ratings...and I was not disappointed! Upon walking in the decor was well lit and very inviting. The smell of fresh bread and smiling happy employees add as well. We decided on two latte's and an assortment of breakfast treats. The cinnamon rolls were to die for! I also loved my chocolate raspberry scone and the fantastic fresh raisin/hazelnut bread. We bought a loaf to bring back with us. They really have a great thing going here, I'll definitely make sure to stop by the next time I am in the area!

This place has the best bread in sd, possibly the world. Yes, its hard to read the menu from the line but who cares? You could order anything and it would be delicious. Fresh, cheap, tasty, creative, what are you waiting for?

The bread here is yummy!!! I had the turkey Cobb on rosemary bread with a dark chocolate chip cookie and iced tea. My friend had the same but will a vanilla latte.
I would honestly go here just to buy the bread. It was fresh, tasty and hearty. The sandwich was good too. I liked the sun dried tomato in the sandwich. Gave it a little extra flavor.
The cookie was delicious and pretty big. Very soft and when I broke it apart the chocolate melted.
I didn't really care for the iced tea. Too much of a flowery taste. And my friend's vanilla latte was small and it cost 4.00. Kinda pricey, but along the lines of starbucks prices I guess.
For half a sandwich it was 4.75 and a full is 7.95. The half was enough for me. I couldn't even finish it.
The place is really cute, the staff is friendly and attentive, but the service is slow. But since it was lunchtime I expected it.
Gotta return here on a Saturday for the chocolate bread. -

Randomly walked by this place with some friends and thought oh this looks like a cute little cafe AND they seem to be dog friendly too so we decided to try Con Pane out.
The line was ridiculously long inside and I said to myself this place better be good but once I had a bite of my sandwich I was more than satisfied. I ordered an almost grilled cheese (Brie and gorgonzola cheese) with tomatoes on multigrain bread and my boyfriend ordered the roast beef on kalamata olive bread. Both were so fresh and delicious! On the other hand, I was disappointed because although there was a wide variety of different breads to choose from for your sandwich they were sold out of all the ones I wanted to try (rosemary & olive oil and cheese focaccia etc)....but even more the reason to come back to try those.
The baked goodies also looked tasty. We ordered a cinnamon roll that was so rich and creamy it was like a party in your mouth.
So if you like fresh baked bread and sandwiches this is the place to go! -

Walked in during lunch and it was quite busy. Got in line before I noted that there were no menus on the walls. Losing my place in line I found a laminated menu up front.
This place is BUSY with quite the line but it moved along fairly quick. After giving your order they take your name and you find seating while the sandwich is made. Wait in line, then wait for delivery, but happily It was delivered in reasonable time.
My turkey sandwich was good... but then for almost five bucks for half a sandwich it really should be. That said, in the future, when in this area and in need of a sandwich, I'll just go a bit further down Rosecrans Street and stop at the Brown Bag Deli where I can get a really GREAT sandwich, pay less, and get it quicker. -
Review from Fara A.
I found a DEAD ANT in my cobb sandwich. :( Yeah, yeah, it could've been worse, I know...it wasn't a roach, or a pubic hair, or worse yet, a finger BUT it was the response I received, that REALLY turned me off.
The ant was right on top of the cheese and avocado so it was easy to spot. I maintained my composure and advised one of the ladies behind the counter. I expected her to reimburse me, and make me another sandwich, sans ant. She didn't seem concerned (or surprised, to my chagrin), took my sandwich, and told me it would be replaced. Realizing that I wasn't going to receive a refund, I then asked for an extra couple of slices of bread (you see, I have a toddler and she doesn't really eat sandwiches, is picky, and usually just eats plain bread). She replied, "You can buy that at the counter". I mean, really?! I just found an ant in my sandwich, and you refuse my request for 2 slices of bread?!!
So, I returned to my seat with a frown, and disappointment. A few minutes later, the same lady returned to our table, with my sandwich, and it was on the WRONG bread (rosemary instead of the white I originally had). And, she said, "I spoke to the manager and she told me to give you a chocolate roll, too". Ooooohhh...how generous of you.
I'm really disappointed because other than this experience and poor service, the sandwich and bread were quite delicious. And, the prices are just right.
Note to the management: please speak directly with your customers if an ant, vermin, etc. is found in their food. Also, do not simply offer a "chocolate roll". (What if I didn't want one? What if I were allergic to chocolate)?Ask your customers what you can do to rectify the situation. A little personal attention goes a long way. -

Went back again and I have to say, despite their lackluster service, the food never disappoints. I had the Turkey Cobb again... I couldn't resist. My boyfriend had the Italian this time around (a bit oily). We also bought a Chocolate Brioche twist, a loaf of Rosemary & Olive Oil bread for homemade sandwiches, and the Pesto & Feta Bread. OMG - all amazing. The P&F is a must try!!! I liked the Chocolate Brioche (there are crushed hazelnuts, too!), but I really enjoy the savory breads here more.
I hope to be in the area in the future often to pick up some more bread!1 Previous Review: Show all »

this place is heaven for carb lovers. My favorite is the bakers bread plate. If you go on Sunday's you can get the chive and Gruyere which is my personal favorite.
It seems they have gotten a lot more popular since moving to Liberty Station, so try to go early to beat the Rock Church crowd. -

The food is good.
Prices are steep for what you get.
No visible menu in the line area. People are somewhat forced to decide at the cash register which slows the line down a lot. -

Calling all bread lovers! Con Pane Rustic Breads & Cafe is for you!
Various types of bread, baguettes, scones, cookies, sandwiches and more. The fiancé and I ordered there house coffee, scones, and a sourdough baguette. Everything tasted delicious! The sourdough baguette was our favorite.
Plenty of seating inside and outside.
The location is a little tricky to find, due to there location being inside liberty station.
Customer service was ok. They were very busy on a Sunday morning, which made us feel like they were very short when taking our order and bringing our food out. They were polite, but seemed to just want to give you your order and quickly walk away. Lucky for them, there bread is fabulous and customer service is overlooked.
Definitely a favorite spot for us to stop by on our Sunday mornings...:-) -

I'm obsessed with their Rosemary and Olive Oil bread. It's a perfect combination of soft and chewy. I finally had the chance to try the Turkey Cobb today- crazy good. Spilt the whole sandwich with my sister. What a deal for $7. We gobbled down our sandwiches before we remembered to take a picture. :)
Don't miss out on:
Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie (for those chocolate purists- no nuts!)
Brioche Cinnamon Rolls
Vanilla Bean Shortbread
As we were leaving my sister commented on all of the smilling people. I told her that they're happy eating all of that yummy bread. -

Con Pane is cute and delicious--their sandwiches on freshly baked bread are YUM.
Place: very cute, love the outdoor patio--perfect for a gorgeous summer day. Interior is nice, very open, plenty of seating both inside and out.
Service: You order at the cashier and they bring the food out to you, very casual.
Food: The Turkey Cobb is great--the avocado really cemented my love. You can choose the bread you want each sandwich on and the Artisan Multigrain was soft, fresh and delicious. My friend's salami sandwich was tasty as well. Ughh they ran out of chocolate brioche before we got there so I'll have to wait for next time, but the Mexican hot chocolate was perfect--not too sweet, but spicy and satisfying :)
Delicious meal for $10--definitely give this place a try!Listed in: SD faves

I've been dreaming of this place since my last visit...last year. Today's trip didn't at all disappoint!
Walked in to a HUGE line (at lunchtime on a Saturday). I was willing to wait. Ordered a half roast beef on sourdough for me, and pb&j for my hubby & kids to share. Added cookies, chocolate rolls, and a tomato/garlic/cream cheese foccacia, all to go, and paid (with a credit card, which they DO accept).
Waited more than a few minutes (seems like an eternity when you're hungry), checked my order for completeness (would hate to be disappointed after driving home), and walked away happy.
The pb&j was on wheat bread and was delish. Thick slices of bread with a thick slathering of creamy pb and lovely seeded raspberry jam. The roast beef sandwich was so good that I commented after almost every bite. Soft sourdough with chewy crust, crispy romaine, sweet tomatoes, red onion, thin sliced roast beef, and creamy goat cheese. So amazing, but so simple...
The chocolate chunk walnut cookies are worth a trip all by themselves. Soft & absolutely dreamy.
I'll be back!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I went to this place after I read about it in the, "Best of San Diego" magazine. It was in there because of their cinnamon rolls, and since I'm married to a cinnamon roll addict I had to get my hands on one.
The Veggie Cobb Sandwich on Kalamata Olive bread is what I got for myself, and brought home the cinnamon roll to my husband. I will be dreaming about that sandwich until I go back for another... SO good!
I had never before seen a place where you could order big ole' thick slices of bread, on a plate, with butter, preserves, pesto, etc. I thought it was weird, but then when I actually saw how beautiful a plate of the bread was it all made sense. A carb lover can spend all day here. -

Delicious breads! Southern California is desperately hurting for good bakers.... this one is helping to bridge that gap. I don't know why the folk here are so afraid of carbs.... but they need to get over it and just do a little exercise..
The breads here are worth the trip.... healthy and delicious. I will definitely keep driving out of my way to go shopping here! yummy! -

Had the Veggie Cobb again today and IT IS SO GOOD. They don't make the quickest of sandwiches here, which can be a little frustrating when you're hungry, but once you get the sandwich, you realize it was worth the wait.

I thought I made a good sandwich but these sandwiches were very yummy and like what everyone mentioned the Turkey Cobb is delicious. Crumbly cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, can't go wrong with the bread super fresh and chewy.
Portion sizes are good. Half a sandwich made me full and it was reasonably priced as well. -

Good sangwiches, but great bread. How have I never been to this joint?
Split the Italian Salami on French Pane au Levain & the Turkey Cobb on Kalamata Olive bread with a co-worker. Both were good, the salami packed a lot of great flavor, and the Gruyere was a perfect match. They use EVOO on the sandwich so I'd recommend eating it there or rather quickly if you take it to go, otherwise the bread will be an oily sponge. The turkey they used wasn't of the highest quality (looked like the formed turkey roll that $3.99/lb @ ralphs) and the Gorgonzola was a bit overwhelming but overall it was a good 'wich. I also took home a tomato/garlic/cream cheese focaccia that was amazing.
I'll be back for the chocolate bread to try the roast beef, and the cinnamon rolls of course which looked ridic! -

Refined without being pretentious.
Flavorful without the calorie guilt.
Fresh without the added expense.
It takes a lot to impress a crowd with a PB&J sandwich. This place does. And never fails to do so with all their other menu items! Con Pane is a gem amongst gems in Liberty Station. At no more than $7 for a sandwich that is no less than 2 inches thick, you will always go home satisfied in mind, stomach, and wallet. But don't let the mouthwatering sandwiches distract you from the dessert menu. Whether you get their larger than life cinnamon bun or a melt-in-your-mouth cookie, Con Pane knows how to close out a perfect meal. -

I love to stop here after a ride (bicycle) with the guys/gals from Moment Cycle Sport.
The bread is fantastic, cinnamon rolls are the best in the world, and scones are marvelous...
I do wish they had some hot sandwiches, that bread would be killer toasted up with a roast beef or pastrami... or melted cheese sandwich..... drool. I'm not a huge fan of some of their fu-fu goat cheese things, just keep it real for me, but generally great quality and good stuff here only. I'd recommend it to anyone.
PS. the cookies look great, but nothing special, bread and pastries are Con Panes strength. -

This is the best place to get your carb on.
I made the mistake of coming here on a Wednesday because it is closed on Wednesdays. Not sure why but it just does. So I made up for it and came back on Thursday AND Friday. I had the turkey cobb on ciabatta one day and roasted turkey on sour dough the next. Both were exquisite.
I love the sun-dried tomatoes with the roasted turkey coupled with the soft and chewy thick sourdough slices. At $7.50 for a whole sandwich, I don't feel so bad.
There is usually a line and a wait so phone in your order if you can. Breads can be purchased by itself for $3-$5 a loaf which is not bad at all. Pastries and cookies are also available. They all look yummy but I had to try the peanut butter and toffee cookie which was good but probably would have won me over if it were still warm from the oven. -

Every sunday after church I make a habit to come here and have my veggie cobb sandwich on olive bread sooo good!!! :) This is not your average 'sandwich and go place'. It's true to its word, rustic and very delicious.
Definitely a better sandwich & cafe shop than a few places I've been to.
All sandwiches are freshly made and fresh bread by the loaves here as well.
Very tempting is their baked sweets along the queue line, can't resist buying one of their scones ^.^ -

Awesome bread! Just like all the reviews on here. I really like their multigrain and of course their famous cinnamon roll. Mmmm!
They have maybe 10 dfifferent sandwiches. You choose whatever bread you want. Like other reviewers, the meat is just regular from your grocery deli. You really come here for the bread. Half a roast beef sandwich is less than $5. Their cinnamon rolls are big and $3.
