I knew that I was not going to have a 'suite' even though this hotel is called Comfort Suites and therefore all rooms within should be suites.  This is false advertising in my book, but I won't complain (other than what I just said).

So I got a room.  The basic one.  It's big enough for walking around in, but not big enough to practice line dancing in.  The couch is against one wall, a small divider (3 feet long, 4.5 feet high) separating it from the bed area.

The bathroom is just big enough for a smaller-than-the-norm tub and the other thing.  The sink is in the main room right next to the bathroom door.  I liked this because I got to blow dry my hair whilst watching TV.  Crappy blow dryer that kept blowing its fuse included.  The light above the sink is fluorescent which makes everyone look ugly, so you can start your morning feeling ugly.  Just what everyone needs.  The light fixture fell on me while I was doing my makeup which caused me to both scream and draw dark brown lines on my nose.

The bed was hard.  It supposedly had a pillow top mattress but I could not feel it.  There is a balcony, which for me faced a side street.  If I strained my neck I could see the pool and "spa" area.

Pool and "spa" area review: I only visited the "spa" at night.  Why are there quotes?  Let's find out.  There are lights shining on the pool which make the "spa" bright enough to not be romantic but the lights aren't shining on the "spa" so you can't really see anything.  Only 2 jets work.  The "spa" is eyelid shaped, three and a half feet deep, and big enough for, eh, 3 people.  The chlorine was so strong that I could not get the smell off of me for days though I tried.

The TV had a multitude of channels, I think 72?  I turned CNN on whenever we were in the room and I felt like I was wasting the free HBO and Showtime.

I didn't get to experience breakfast, but a continental is provided from 7-10.

We slept in one morning past the allotted cleaning time.  When I called the front desk at 5 pm to ask for more towels I was told they did not have any.  But the man said he would try to scrounge some up and then call me, but I would have to come down to get them.  I asked why he could not bring them up to my room, after all, this was a hotel.  He said no.  Five minutes later he was at my door with towels.  It was a little unexpected but a nice surprise.

Ugh!  Though I am usually an upbeat reviewer, this place is a pass.  I only stayed here because the Hampton Inn & Suites where I often stay in San Clemente on business was booked up.  There is no way I would stay at the Comfort Suites here again.  It is much lower end than my usual place though only about $10 less per night.  The breakfast is abysmal, the service minimal, and when I stayed here, there were an abundance of rude guests - yelling obcenities in the hallways for extended periods in the middle of the night.  Not my scene!
