6 reviews for Comfort Inn
We go to Santa Rosa several times a year on photo shoots. We're always looking for decent, relatively cheap places to stay to keep our expenses down. We have stayed in several places over the last couple of years. We liked the Best Western Rose Garden Inn--but apparently so does everyone else, so they have raised their rates beyond what we are willing to shell out considering we are only there to shower and sleep. We stayed at the Days Inn--tiny room, very noisy, rude staff, more expensive. We stayed at America's Best Value--ditto.
This time, the event we were photographing made the hotel reservations. We knew they were on a tight budget and booked a block of rooms to get a discount, so we did not expect much. Boy, were we surprised!
Unlike the other reviewers here, we had no problems. Check-in was a breeze (they even let us check in early), the room was clean and comfortable. No bugs, no smells, no noise, even though the place was almost full. Extra points for a window that actually opened. I didn't mind that the sink was outside the bathroom--I could brush my teeth while my husband was in the shower. The room also had a mini fridge, a microwave, a coffee maker, and an iron. All of which came in handy during our 3-day stay.
The staff was friendly, patient, and efficient. The breakfast was adequate--all I need is some OJ and toast--and it was available early, which was good for us because our shoot started at 7 a.m. and we were able to grab something and head out.
They don't get 5 stars because the shower is made for midgets. I am 5'9" and was able to crouch down low enough to get my head wet, but my husband is 6'4" and it was pretty hopeless for him. The only other minus is no clock radio/alarm, though they will give you a wake-up call. I am hesitant to trust in wake-up calls and used the alarm on my Palm Pilot. Oh, one more minus: the free wireless Internet was unavailable while we were there. To be fair, it wasn't their fault. We couldn't get wireless Internet at the fairgrounds, either, which was much more of a problem than not having it at the hotel.
They get extra points for the really good restaurant--Sam's--right across the parking lot. When you shoot photos for ten hours, your feet hurt and your back hurts. You go back to your room and feed batteries into the chargers, and then you want FOOD. You don't want to shower and dress and drive downtown to JoJo's Sushi Bar, as tempting as it is. You want to eat good food and go to bed. Sam's had really great Prime Rib for a very good price. Also an excellent shrimp and avocado cocktail, and wonderful soups. I'm told their New York steak was great, too, but can't say so personally. They also have lots of vegetarian choices on their menu, and the prices are the best I've found in Santa Rosa.
The other folks involved in the event who stayed there were also very complimentary about their experience.
I hope we get more jobs in Santa Rosa, because I look forward to staying here again.
Seriously? $80 a night? You have got to be kidding me.
From the checking in fiasco - a 30 minute nightmare on a prepaid room - to the horrifying shower - the shower head was at my shoulders and I'm not breaking any height barriers at 5'7" - this was an extremely uncomfortable hotel stay. The hallways were filled with security cameras which made me feel the opposite of safe actually. Are there so many problems here that you have to watch the hallways? Lock the door!
At least they had free wi-fi? That's worth one star.

Comfort Inn is a decent little motel. The job took us to this side of the bay for several days so we had to stay here for that duration. The desk people we encountered were very patient and accommodating. I never cared for rooms where the bathroom sink is located on the outside, but in this particular motel they are right by the door, which just bothers me.
On the first night I was so tired that I fell asleep right away despite the fact that a family was discussing their next day's itinerary in the hallway right by our door and a group doing gymnastics in the room right above us. I woke up at 4:30am to go to the bathroom and the occupants upstairs were still practicing their vaults. Luckily, I was able to fall right back to sleep.
All the previous night's disturbances were forgiven by the continental breakfast. I've never taken advantage of the "make-your-own waffle" station but I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. The fruit they had on display has seen better days though.
Comfort Inn is in close proximity to one of the Highway 101 exits up in Santa Rosa as well as restaurants and convenience shopping. If you need a place to stay for a good night's sleep in the middle of a long drive, then this place will work. Just make sure there isn't a gymnasts convention in town.

If I could give this place "no stars" I would! I had a very very poor experience here - AND to top it off, when I took the online survey asking me about my stay and told the story of how horrible it was, I was told someone would contact me within 7 business days. That was on July 5th, and it is now July 28th. I still am waiting to hear from SOMEONE!
Everything from the confusion when we checked in, to the EXTREMELY rude hotel staff, to the spider in my sheets, to the thin walls, to the 2 week old rotting fruit at the "continental breakfast," to the horrific experience at check out was waaaaay below par.
I've worked in some form of customer service for close to 8 years. I understand that things don't always go smoothly and this is an imperfect world. However, I do believe that how you handle fixing a problem is what makes up for a poor experience. No efforts were/have been made to address the issues I brought up both at the hotel and after we left.
Luckily for me, I don't think I will ever have to go back. You shouldn't either!
"You guys got a sweet upgrade" is what the front desk guy says to me as I'm checking in to this unassuming little freeway adjacent hotel. Really? Ok, cool, but when I get to my room I'm not sure what the actual upgrade is besides a very unstable feeling 3 foot deck that looks out onto the parking lot. I guess my upgrade is that for the rest of the week I get to chuckle at the fact that I got a "sweet upgrade" and then exclaim, "Lucky!"
The hotel itself was more than fine for the price and the continental breakfast was yummy if you don't mind grabbing a piece of fruit and prepackaged bowl of cereal before you hit the road.
Do be warned that the hotel can be really loud since it's located right next to the freeway, but if you get a sweet upgrade you can Lord over the parking lot.
And yeah, I spent more on a bottle of wine than on my hotel room, a girls gotta have priorities.

Dirty, smelly rooms, bugs, paper-thin walls, disinterested staff. Everything that you don't want in a hotel, and then some.
One star is too good for this place. Avoid at all costs.
