4 reviews for Comfort Inn
Closer to a 3.5, but I did want to balance out those one star ratings.
We did not experience most of the problems indicated in previous reviews. The tv reception was static-y on a couple of stations but I find that it is pretty common in many motels. No bigee for us since we don't go there to watch tv.
Room was clean and comfy.
Bed and bedding were clean and comfy.
Air conditioning worked fine (and you need it in Gilroy)
Plenty of towels.
Bath and shower were perfect.
Room was quiet despite the motel being totally booked.
Didn't hear a peep from any of our neighbors.
Hubby and I got a room with a king sized bed. It came with several chairs and two tables. One of the tables had a leg that looked askew but it was un-wobbly.
Staff was fine but there was only one desk clerk when we checked in and he seemed a little overwhelmed. A second person did arrive.
We didn't try the continental breakfast, but my bro and his family did.
Typical Comfort Inn fare, includes do-it-yourself-waffles.
Price was VERY AFFORDABLE. We stayed there for two nights on a busy 4th of July weekend. We payed $123 for two nights with an online reservation in advance. This was the total including tax.
I had done a lot of surfing on the web to look for deals in Monterey, Santa Cruz and Gilroy. The Motel 6 was $119 before taxes for one night (in Monterey) and $90 (in Gilroy) for one night--both before taxes! Other motels in Monterey were averaging $175 a night! And that is IF they even had any vacancies.
We did ask for a downstairs room but since we checked in late, none were available. That is fine. It is standard policy for most motels to not guarantee a downstairs room.
Downside is that it is 35 miles from Monterey.
Upside is that when you stay here you can get a 50% off coupon for Gilroy Gardens for up to six people!
No mints on the pillow here but we would definitely stay here again!
fyi. book onlne since drop-in fees are higher.

I survived the yearly trip to Gilroy for school shopping with my boys last week with some help of this hotel! I am a frequent stay member of this hotel chain so I do try to stay at this chain of hotels whenever possible to be able to get the points for my free rooms but sometimes, of course, have the bad luck and the stay just wasn't worth it, (like the one I stayed at in Monterey. If only I would have known, I would have just stayed here again, saved the cash and put it in the tank and drove to the beach)but this hotel and the cheap price along with the close proximity to the outlets plus a comfy bed was soooo worth it! Only booked for one night here, did our shopping and headed west to the beach, but after our mini-vaca, decided to stay here on the way home and do a little more shopping and when we walked in to get our room, the owners treated us like family!! I'm one of those that doesn't mind paying for great customer service, and here you don't have to and they fed my kids waffles in the morning! Ok, it wasn't just my kids, they do it for everyone!
There's mini marts , restaurants within walking distance, actually right in front of the hotel, large rooms, although the second night we stayed I did notice that the bathroom was more updated than the one we stayed in before so they must be updating the rooms slowly, but both rooms were clean, and the beds were comfortable and the best part, more than one pillow per person and the pillows weren't filled with kleenex. If you are a frequent traveler, you have experienced this. You're head hits the mattress as soon as your head hits the pillow? What the hell? TIP, book online to get the best deal on the rooms. AAA member? Even more insane on the price!

NO STARS...but I had to click on one.
Stains on the carpet, patches of wallpaper glued onto the wall, towel bars hanging precariously on a screw that had been turned too many times, chairs without seat cushions, graffiti on the bathroom counter, "sticky" residue on the doors, no reception on TV channels...need I say more? Oh wait, how about 30 high school wrestlers showing up at 9pm to run up and down the hallways yelling and then jumping into the pool cannonball style? Yeah, I called the front desk and there was no answer from the hotel phone. So I called from my cell and there was an immediate pick up, but the guy pretended not to speak English. So I called back...this time, he understood and I watched him go to tell the kids to get out of the pool (by now it's almost 11pm)...only he pretty much just tells them to be quiet. So they stay in, continue to be loud, and it's obnoxious. Trust me, the ONLY reason I stayed here was because I'm here on business and my work arranged it....so it will NEVER happen again.

I stayed at this location about a year and a half ago for one night and I was glad that I made reservations for one night. This was the worst of the lodgings that I have ever stayed at. First, I asked for a room on the first floor and instead got a room on the second floor. Second, I encountered a blackout in the middle of the night, while I was heating a leftover and turned on the TV to see what was on. Third, the room that I was in had bad TV channel reception. Majority of gas stations had squiggly lines, even the local NBC affiliate. Fourth, the Internet in the lobby was always down. And fifth, it is not wheelchair accessible as there is no elevator. No access to the second floor.
Complained the next morning about the room last night and was told that I would not be charged. When I got my credit card bill the next month, I found that I was billed for the room. Had to contact my credit card to dispute the charge and then write a letter to one of the credit card's many departments.
I would seriously avoid Comfort Inn Gilroy.
