Was really excited to go here when my brother said he got tickets when we came to visit. The show was really funny and fun I was open to it and had a great time. Would recommend to anyone if you don't know what to do on a bored night!

Always burning hot inside, stuffy, and overpriced . Very hit and miss . Either funny or horrible .

    ummmmmmmm..... ???
Why am i here! Shoot me now!

my girlfriend took me here on a girls night out. I dont normally like comedy as it is... but anything for Sue Kwon!
    Ahh... lets see...
we came in a little late so i guess we missed the disclaimer. This comedy show is MEGA PG-13.  I think its very disrespectful and humiliating to force a guest to put a brown paper bag over their head for yelling out the word "SEXUAL"... really guys? i didnt say anything sexual. just the word.

    hmmm.. the comedy.
a bunch of wannabe grimy actors looking for their break. ahhh
what the heck is wrong with this place. i guess that because its PG-13 its so limited.. but even the disney channel is better comedy then this stuff...
i felt it was really bland. They try to involve the audience but its more of a flop. I couldnt even imagine my grade school niece and nephew getting into it. The language is very young adult yet its a pg13 show. i dont get it.

I was a little wary of attending, but my nephew organizes his high school's comedy sportz team, and so we went at his suggestion.

Glad I went as it was a terrific time, the show was laugh out loud funny. As others have stated, it's improv between two different teams, with the audience voting on which team should receive the points for each sketch. Very family friendly, as they even have "penalties" for jokes that verge on being too racy.

The night we went a bus of high schoolers were there so the somewhat small theater was packed, made me wonder how crowded it would have been if the students hadn't filled 75% of the seats.

We went to the 8pm show, tickets were bought online for $17. We were offered the chance to watch the 10:30 show for $10. Lots of street parking, area seems a bit sketchy, but we didn't encounter any issues before or after the show.

I don't think they have the reputation of say, the Groundlings, but Comedy Sportz is definitely worth checking out. If you're even thinking about it, just go. You won't be disappointed.

This show is seriously rated PG. I'm really into raunchy sexual humor but I can appreciate clean humor like the jokes from the Shrek movies. I came here with high hopes from the reviews but it was a FAIL. One star for the rewind/forward game.

Fun!! All the other yelpers have said it all, but it truly is worth another write up just to get the word out. Good, clean fun. A great old theatre, in a great part of town, this is a great way to spend a random Saturday night in L.A. Skip the attitude of other comedy venues, and come have a blast.

As with most improv, it depends on the audience participation to make or break it. So, be sure to yell out good suggestions!!!

A very fun, small improv theatre.  You'll find it on Seward, a small business street off Melrose; just turn at Xiomara and it's a few doors down.  You can buy the tickets at the box office before the show.  A little steep at $19, but know that you're getting a quality show.

We went to the 10:30pm Saturday night show.  There was a pretty small crowd, maybe 15 people.   The theater held about 70 or more, so we all sat up front for a more intimate feel.

It's team, competitive improv comedy.  They keep score, and remind you of the suggestions on TV monitors (that the actors can't see).

The actors were all incredible.  Great actors, very quick thinking, and excellent singers.  As always, there was a deficit of girls; there was only one woman, so one team was all guys.  I didn't care for the referee for our night.  I've seen shows similar to this, and she didn't play the straight-man, pseudo-authoritative game official.  Because of this, it was hard to understand the rules of the night and the games with all of her "um, yeah, wow, it's late, jeeze, I don't remember this one, why can't I think, yeah, ummm, where was I, I don't know, can someone help me here, oh well."

As is standard, it was a "family show", rated "E" for everyone.  No foul language, no vulgarity, and (a unique feature) no lame jokes.

The one thing that ruined the show?  The audience for our night!  Wow, just some terrible suggestions!  Give me an animal: a monkey!  Give me a sport: basketball!  Does anyone have a movie line: life is like a box of chocolates.  C'mon!  Half the fun comes from the actors trying to figure out how to work with difficult suggestions.  When you come, don't be afraid to give a suggestion, but please make it count.  We had a few good ones, but they started the show saying we were looking for some fun, but high brow humor.  Make them work for it.  Just think, "$20... what do I really want them to do?"

    Fun!

Even though it's family friendly and clean comedy, 6 of us in our mid-late 20's had a great time.

Would recommend anyone with a sense of humor to go.

If you're lame and a grump, it might not be for you. :D

bought two tickets to comedysportz just because it was on groupon.
went on a friday night at 8pm, not that many people were there.
the show was actually really funny while still keeping it clean. very nice.
this was my first time going to an improv show and was very pleasantly surprised.
the show is about two hours with a ten minute intermission.
in the back they have a foosball table and a concession stand.
i got picked in the audience for a free ticket back and i'm definitely using it!

Wow what a blast this show was! I'm assuming that the show has different members performing each week or each night, but this in particular, the teams were hilarious!

So the way it works is you have two teams of improv comedians. Each with two members and a team captain. They perform different "games" where their skills, quick wits, and humor is challenged. Now they have specific rules that keeps things tasteful - No vulgar language, No vulgar behavior, and No Dumb Jokes.

They get the audience involved so it keeps things really lively.

This particular night was really special because they had a special celebrity guest. It was Tony Horton, the face of P-90x. Totally awesome! The guy was quite hilarious, himself.

Ticket prices were $20 a person and seats are fairly limited and it keeps the crowd smaller and its in a much more intimate and less rowdy setting. So much fun to be had!

There was also an intermission where you can pick up refreshments in a nice open courtyard. We had water. LOL. anyway, if you're looking for a great, fun time without the crude behavior and language, this is a great place to go! BTW There's also a great little restaurant called, "The Grub" right down the street in the same block. More on this place in my next review....

Ok, you are sitting at home thinking there is nothing to do...right??  WRONG!!  Go to Comedysportz!  :-)

If you like to laugh, if you like to have fun, this is the place for you!

If you like to mope, or if you like to burn ants with a magnifying glass, then maybe this isn't for you...

I started attending Comedysportz about 4 years ago.  When I first went, I wasn't sure what to expect, and had my doubts since I cringe at Comedy shows that "say" they are funny but then go into these gross, crude rants about how stupid their life is.  You know what I am talking about....

But I am happy to report that Comedysportz is everything I dreamed it would be!!  It is competitive team improv (like "Who's Line is it Anyway'..but better) and the show stays fresh time and time again.  The show is completely made up based on audience suggestion.  The best part is that you can take ANYONE to the show and you don't have to worry about anybody being offended or hiding their head in shame.  Just because these guys do clean comedy does NOT mean the show is boring!  (Far from it in fact)  I can see why it is the Longest running show in Los Angeles....

Located in Hollywood this place has it all!  They have a patio to relax during half time where you can enjoy good snacks and beverages.  You can even foozeball while you wait.  The staff is GREAT, and you even get to meet the players after the show!    You can tell they enjoy making you laugh just as much as you enjoyed watching them!

Ok, so what are you waiting for??  Grab your roommate, grab your grandma, grab the stranger on the street and go see COMEDYSPORTZ!!  (Or go alone...it still will be worth it!)  The only thing that will make this show better is your suggestions and laughter.  :-)  Oh...one more thing...that crazy lady in the front row THAT'S PROBABLY ME!!--See you there!  :-)

Check out their website http://www.comedysport... for updated show and ticket information!  You can't go wrong...just pick one, and go!  You won't be sorry!

I had so much fun at my last show!

These improv comedians are so much fun. Not only are they on stage putting on a great show, they get the crowd involved. And it's not the type of involvement where they're trying to embarrass you. They're actually trying to get ideas to fill in the gaps for their improvisations. The wackier your response, the funnier the show gets.

All my friends had a great time, too. It's something for everyone, kids are welcome too!

I've been involved in the LA Improv scene for almost 10 years now. I've studied, performed in and watched shows all over town.  I can honestly say ComedySportz has the best vibe in Los Angeles!

The players, staff, instructors and community are totally welcoming and friendly and the classes are challenging without feeling competitive.

Beyond all that, the shows are a blast! Because the shows are clean and upbeat, first rate first date.

Nice people, great classes, funny shows. What more could you ask for?

ComedySportz is a sweet place to get your laugh on.

While I'm totally crude in my humor, I still enjoyed the fact that its a clean show/suitable for all ages. It's nice to see comedians who don't rely on shocking the audience for laughs.
The players are always super energetic and the games they play are short, so its never boring.
Its pretty cheap for a comedy show in Hollywood and its not as well-known as UCB and Groundlings, which I dig cause I can impress the ladies with my knowledge of LA secrets.
I've been here quite a few times, and I'll definitely be back for more.

Good comedy isn't confined to dirty, acerbic humor. Most of what I see on television or around town is just that. It's a bit distasteful to my palate, and I do wonder why people enjoy such crudity.

With that, I give you ComedySportz. Such an oasis of witty humor! So much creativity in their improvisations! Reminds me much of "Who's line is it anyway".

    PROS:
Shows at 8pm and 10:30pm Sun-Sat. Appropriate for all ages. Audience participation. Free ticket on birth month (if you sign up for their mailing list).

    CONS:
No shows during M-W. Women's bathroom has one toilet (which means, you have to wait for others. Sometimes talkative audience members (doesn't really relate to ComedySportz, but just letting you all know so you can "shush" them accordingly). Buying the ticket online will cost you more due to transaction and handling charges.

    ADVICE:
If you are going to the 10:30pm shows, usually they aren't sold out. If you want to go at 8pm, it's best to secure them. Purchase the tickets ahead of time either at the window, or online (but note the extra charges).
Prepare also to come a bit earlier because of traffic (esp if you're coming from Sunset area) and parking. Only one side of the street allows for parking.

What a fun place!  My roommate took me here for a surprise early birthday celebration with several of our friends.  It was good clean improv comedy and the folks were really funny.  I've been to other improv places and sometimes the humor is either racist, crude, or just not funny.  It can actually ruin the night (the racist stuff).  So I appreciated how ComedySportz kept it Rated E for Everyone.  Tonight was college night and I have to give it up to them.  They did a great job!  I signed up for their list so I could get a free birthday pass and come again.

I will definitely recommend this place to people looking for something to do in LA.  I'll be laughing about tonight for a while.  Thanks Blue Team, Red Team, Ref, and Bill Cosby announcer guy!

Also, there was an actual person playing accompaniment.  Very cool!

I would like to thank all the yelpers who reviewed ComedySportz because without you I wouldn't have been able to make an educated decision on where to take a group of high school girls that was appropriate enough for them but still hollywood enough to seem cool. You guys definitely did it justice. Who knew clean, fun comedy could be just as hilarious as crude, lewd comedy? I am a changed woman. There was crowd involvement, parody singing, ridiculous improv games and a "ref' who really brought it all together.  The girls and the rest of the staff left with soar cheeks we were all laughing so much. Sure, there were some not-so-funny moments, but I think that's what makes improv so great. You can still laugh out loud at the not-so-funny moments and not feel like a terrible person (like in standup when it is evident that someone is bombing on stage and it would be to cruel laugh at them).

It brought a serious smile to my face to see all the girls' fb update statuses that night commenting on how much fun they had!

Yelp, you treat me so good! (oh, and another point for ComedySportz...two of the staff want to take their husbands back for date night!)

Let me preface by saying I have nnneeever been to a 'comedy club'.

I don't know if watching 'Seinfeld' counts.

Anyway I found some parking on the street (no prob) and came a little early for the 10 pm show.  My friends were waiting in the patio behind.

What a cute patio!!!  Heat warmers etc :) perfect for a summer get-together. (Oh wait.. it's spring but we're in CA we have no notion of 'seasons').

I went to the snack bar and bought some classy water in a glass container fo $3.  The boy working there also told us he is part of the improv troupe as well - so seems like everyone works together.

We were ushered into the show and at first I thought I was going to be watching sub par comedians that would barely get a 'heh' out of me since it's a 'family' show.

Glad they proved me wrong.  It's still humor that adults and kids can enjoy sorta like the Simpsons before the simpson's got weird.

There is a lot of crowd involvement too --- for $18-$20 I would come again.

I've been to ComedySportz a handful of times and have always enjoyed myself.  I'm not one to really laugh out loud at comedy shows, but there is something about the improv done at ComedySportz that always makes me laugh really loudly.  The concept is cute - 2 teams competing against each other for who is funnier, with a ref and scores and everything.  I've seen their regular show and also their special "Morty and Myra's Christmas featuring Hanukkah" (or something like that) in 2009.  It's a great price for a fun night.

I had a really fun time with my friends at the Comedy Sportz "Ballroom Theatre", which is a small comedy studio in the back, next to the outdoor patio.  I haven't been to the main Comedy Sportz show yet in the big theater.  For only $5 the show was excellent.  It started off a bit slow, but the cast was very creative and funny, and we were laughing more and more as the show went on.  I noticed two MadTV cast members who were hilarious and stole the show (Lauren Pritchard and Eric Price).  I'm so glad they were there, it was like seeing professional comedians performing 5 feet away from me.  This studio seats about 30 people, so the show is intimate.  I'll definitely be back for more shows.

It's a nifty place. Small audience. So basically, there's 2 teams and each team does improve. There are different rounds to the game and each team wins points. The good thing about this - audience participation is very high and sometimes it makes the event even more hilarious when the audience yells out somethign absurb. Overall, y es it was funny and entertaining but I had a much fun and hilarious time at The Laugh Factory. BUT..this place is only $15 with no drink minimum. Laugh factory is more costly but more entertaining as well. Your choice!

ComedySportz is very funny, family-friendly (without being kid-y or cutesy), and a great time. Definitely a more enjoyable night out than just going to the same old bar or club.

No matter who I take, everyone always has a great time. Don't like the pseudo-sports format? The same crew do lots of other improv-type shows like Comedy Court, U-Sical, and The High (OC-type melodrama).

Plus (and I hate to name-drop, but is LA afterall), I've definitely seen people in these shows that then go on to make big names for themselves. (e.g., Rob Huebel, Rob Riggle, and I think Jim Gaffigan?) Most funny people in LA seem to filter through this group.
