3 reviews for Com Tam Ninh Kieu
I heard about World of Taste Seafood Deli and was extremely disappointed when i came to find that one of the few highly rated places in the Bronx was closed down. After doing some research, i found out that The Chef at World of Taste had opened up his own restaurant across the street, that being Com Tam Ninh Kieu.
Walking into this place is a huge surprise because its so much like Chinatown Noodle bar spots down by Bowery. Its an astonishing thing to find in the Bronx to say the least, but in a good way because you automatically get that authentic feeling. At the same time, it was depressing to know that i had spent all that gas driving to Great NY Noodletown for snacks when i had an arguably better place right in my backyard.
Ive tried Vietnamese food at a few places, notably in the bay ridge section of brooklyn and chinatown, and i can verify that this is Top Notch authentic food.
First i had the Fried Shrimp Cakes which is usually a disappointing choice at any low budget restaurant. Wow... to my surprise it was arguably the best shrimp cake i ever had. Im not sure if you can even qualify it as a shrimp cake because it was like biting into a huge chunk of shrimp. Im not too sure how appetizing that might sound to you haha, but i can tell you it was extremely satisfying. I can only hope the fish cakes are just as good.
For the main meal, i had typical Vietnamese fare... Grilled Porkchops and Spring Rolls with Vermicelli. The Porkchops were very well seasoned, and had great flavor especially when dipped in the sauce. likewise for the spring rolls. The Vermicelli was a big thicker then i am accustomed to, but they still complimented the rest of the meal very well. arguably not the best but definitely good enough to save you a trip to chinatown.
There also have Banh Mi Sandwiches available. This was my first time trying them and its a very unique meal so ill hold off on the review of those till further notice. Likewise for the Noodle Soups since i have not tried them yet though they looked very delicious.
Overall, if you can get over the bad location, its definitly worth it to hunt down this little Gem.
I went to this neighborhood to try "World of Seafood" restaurant but noticed a new Vietnamese restaurant (much nicer I might add), across the street. Com Tam Ninh Kieu had that Chinatown feel and it looks like a little Vietnamese enclave is being carved out in this neighborhood. There is a Vietnamese grocery store adjacent to his establishment.
The prices are VERY Cheap and I decided to try the Vietnamese sandwich Bánh mì. It was DELICIOUS and only $3.50! The role was huge and fresh and the pork, and vegetables made the sandwich delicous and refreshing. I look forward to going back to this place to try other dishes.
The Bronx is changing folks and I suspect more of theseethnic enclaves to be carved out time goes on.
I love this place. The Pho Bo is delicious. Service is good and they serve green tea on ice before/with the meal. I don't know about bad location, I like the neighborhood vibe. There is a great park to take a stroll after and Edgar Allen Poe's house is just across the Concourse!
