This could be a really nice place.  I think the city needs to get more involved and keep it up and help the people that visit there learn to take better care of it.

As far as families of 20 to 40 hanging out there, well, it is a park and that is what it is for but let's just have the city get more involved and make sure that the folks that go there know there are regulations.

I was there for the first time Sunday.  The group of 30 I was visited were recycling and keeping it clean and even picking up other people's trash.

I am just happy that it is still a lagoon/park and not condos!!!

5 stars for the memories, 3 for wishing it could be the same.  Back in the day it would have received 5 stars.  In the 70's this was my favorite beach.  I'd come here with my family and swim all day and go to Sir Georges buffet in Long Beach for dinner.  Sigh!
We would have races to see who could swim across the lagoon the fastest.  I remember how scary it was jumping off the  platform of the bridge into the water for the first time.  I wish it could be like it was.  Some of my favorite childhood memories.

There is a beauty to Colorado Lagoon. Ringing the edges are small patches of salt marsh, with some beautiful native wildflowers. There is great bird watching here. The city has recently been awarded money to restore more natural habitat, and the potentia for improvement is terrrific.

I've added some photos of this park so people can see that it's not as awful as Amy makes it sound.

That said, no, I wouldn't swim here. There have been some serious health violations this year, and the City is still trying to figure out why.  The Beach is a safer bet.

I'd have to agree with miss amy p. on this one. this place is pretty damn raunchy! every monday morning i ride past here, and its always torn to shit! families by the 20s and 40s party here during the weekend, then leave their trash spread about the picnic area. thanks people! as for the water, i have to admit, i went for it...

after hanging in some extreme summer heat, it seemed only proper to take a dip - after all, it appeared refreshing enough. kids were swimming, they looked like they were having fun... but i should have known better. kids will play with what ever is put in front of them, even if that means wet, bobbing turds!

if you like the feeling of baby food between your toes or the idea of catching some fucked up infectious diseases, givher a try. But may i suggest to those who dare to swim or wade here, make sure you seal up all open wounds and orifices - seriously! i wouldnt be surprised if there were [fill in the blank] lying at the bottom of the colorado lagoon. id swim in crystal lake with jason voorhees, and his mother, before stepping foot in this dump again.

BE-fucking-WARE!

It's fine at a distance. I wouldn't get too close to the lagoons face.
She has some zits. Not to bad considering the location.
