I had two posters framed here and they did an excellent job.  I went in and admitted I didn't have a clue what I was doing regarding the framing and I didn't want to spend a ton.  They laid out the options from custom to box frame to a normal poster frame.

I ended up with one poster frame and one box frame (see pictures), which turned out really well - it looks much more like a painting then a poster which is what I was looking for.  Good framing isn't cheap but I felt the pricing was quite reasonable.

Color wheel used to be a lot more artist oriented- you used to be able to go there to buy paints, pens, sketchbooks, supplies, etc. It is no longer an art supply store, rather a place to buy things for home decor. They sell wall coverings and fabrics for the interior of your home, paints, and customing framing/restoration.

I miss the old color wheel, but this one is good at what they do. They have plenty of staff who can give you their opinions or at least point you in the right direction. I've gotten a lot of artwork that I've bought in Korea framed here as well as artwork that I have made myself- and they have done a superb job on every piece. Whether you want a fancier frame, a simple one, or one that makes a statement: they can (and will) help you out here.

After living in McLean for 3+ years, I finally ventured through the doors of Color Wheel.  There are more wallpaper books than I have ever seen in my life.  The selection is phenomenal and you can really find things that are difficult to find elsewhere (for example, Farrow & Ball paper and paint)  This is not an inexpensive place, but what is in McLean?  It is definitely worth the money to find something truly special and they have lots of room to spread out and look at different options.  There are lots of helpful people working, but they can be a bit too chatty sometimes for my taste.  I will say that they referred me to a few wallcovering people and the one that I chose was terrific!

History

Established in 1965

Color Wheel was established in 1965 by Earl and Nellie Boswell, son Charles, with his wife Elisabeth. A tradesman in the paint and wall covering application business, Earl realized it was time to hang up the ladder and move to a safer occupation. Charles, a Fairfax County Police Officer, would also need additional retirement income.

From a modest start, many long hours, determination, and a genuine interest in serving the community, our founders demonstrated extraordinary customer service that has transcended 45 years.

Now owned and operated by the third generation, the company has grown to four times its original size in McLean, with a second location in Fairfax.

Our dedicated employees--many of whom have served Color Wheel customers for one, two, and even three decades--are knowledgeable, trained specialists.

Stop by and visit our hometown business and see for yourself why personalized service and premium products truly matter.
