My husband and I love this hotel. We've been staying here since it was built a few years ago. It's a great weekend getaway. We usually don't leave the hotel all weekend. The room decor has a cool morrocan feel, the purple palm restaurant is great and you basically can stay in the pool all day long. The poolside service is excellent and your drinks are never empty.

The one star being withheld is because of a certain guest that frequents the hotel often and basically ruins the experience for everyone else. Mr. Palmer and his entourage are a group of men that are incredibly obnoxious, loud and demanding. We've had the unfortunate experience of staying at the hotel with them on the same weekend and now know to ask prior to making a reservation if he will be staying there. If you avoid this guy- you'll have an amazing time.

oh colony palms, i had such high hopes for you.  my good friends got married here this past weekend and we stayed here for the mini-destination wedding.  the property is cute and cozy and coming inside the property feels relaxing.  like coming into a secluded place.  that has its downfalls though as rooms were hard to find at first because of multiple gates etc.  the plan is not as open.

i did like that they had co bigelow soaps etc.

onto the operations kinks.  we got in at 2pm and i think i had requested early checkin.  anyways they told us our room wasnt ready so we went into downtown.  my sister calls after 4 to try to check in.  they have a note in their system that i would be bringing my dog.  they give her a doggy welcome package.  then they ask her if the dog was here.  nope not here.  they take the present back ... they didnt call us like they said they would when the room was ready either.  my sister did.

my sister tells me that our bags which they kept at the front werent in the room yet like they had told us they would be so we go to the front and tell them to bring them to the room.  they tell us that they did bring them to the room and that we should go and check and call them from the room. ok.  why do i feel like they dont believe us?  sure enough the bags arent there.  we call. then they bring the bags.  this is all while im trying to get ready for the wedding rehearsal that is at 5.

for cocktail hour, the bartenders were not ready and understaffed.  there was a huge line and people had to wait a long time for drinks.  one of the guests took a bottle from the bar.  the hotel manager saw and later came to confiscate it.  the wedding planner then had the bottle and said that the hotel was charging the couple an extra $120 for the stolen bottle.  how tacky.  but thats not the end.

the palm d'or which is like their presidential/honeymoon suite, which is also super nice was a gathering spot after the dancing/party was over.  the planner had gathered all the guestbook and pictures and things and put it on a dresser and low and behold, that empty bottle was sitting next to all the couple's momentos.

tacky to the max

o wait .. i forgot ... upon checkout, i was leaving and my sister was leaving an hour after me.  i told the front desk i wanted to check out but my sister was still there.  i get a message while i was on the plane.  they tell me that if i dont call them back they will charge me for the room because the girl that was supposed to come check out never did and the room is vacant.  WTF?  lady you heard wrong.

I would stay here again.   Loved the pool atmosphere and location.
It's off the main drag of Palm Springs but walking distance to everything.
They were playing groovy chill music by the pool, a big jug of icewater with lemon and mint was set out for guests, and misters over the bar, and around the chairs were a nice touch.  The staff were helpful and friendly.

We had a "superior" room with King bed.  The bed was great and the room cool, and comfy with a ceiling fan, and a bar with martini glasses and martini shaker.   The air conditioning goes on all night, and it can dry you out, in this already dry place.  You can turn the temperature down to stop the air....just drink lots of water.
I loved the decor and atmosphere here....the only downside was having the sink clog up on our third day, and one of the drawers for clothing got stuck, but those were fixed shortly.

Much Like some of the other reviews on this site ... I too had such high hopes for this hotel.  The property is cute and well-maintained, but it didn't offer the ammenities as adverstised.  Their website advertised "jacuzzi tub outdoors" and a "two person hot tub" - obviously two different things.

Before booking Casita 5, I called the hotel and verfified that the room offered a "hot tub" - i was assured that the room did indeed have a hot tub.  So I payed the nearly $200 ($440 / night) room charge for two nights over New Year's Eve.

The room didn't have a "hot tub" ... it had a two person outdoor bathtub - which is NOT the same.  I called the front desk after checking into the room and they acknowledged that their website was confusing and wrong.  They offered me $20 credit against their resort fee.  Deffinitely NOT an adequete reimburesement given that I paid a $400 premium for the two nights.

To add insults to injury - i accidently left behind two of my favorite swim suits.  I recently noticed my gaff and called the hotel.  They weren't able to locate my swim gear (which was left on the shower door.)  A boutique hotel like this should have noticed that I left items in the room and called me promptly.  If the Huge Marriott Marquis with 2000 rooms in NY can do this ... The Colony should be able to as well.

Since I'm in a roll .. The room?  Very dated.  Moderately clean, with one of the worst shower doors I've ever encountered.  Though the shower area was big - one is forced to one side since the the water leaks (like a river) onto the bathroom floor.  Every shower experience required a clean up by their maid service to literally mop up the bathroon floor.

This room would be great if priced at $90 a night.  If you're thinking of paying a penny more ... don't.

Picking a hotel in Palm Springs was the hardest part in planning our visit.  In addition to the fact that there are no real "luxury hotels" in Palm Springs (i.e. all venues are glorified motels), reviews by fellow Yelpers varied from 1 to 5 stars for the same place, often including descriptions which felt conflicting.  We stayed at both the Movie Colony (first 2 nights) and Colony Palms (3rd and final night) around the Holiday Season.  A straight comparison is hopefully the best way to help other travelers make the right decision (note: this same review is posted for both hotels).

Movie Colony.  We took the cheaper $150 king room which was rather Spartan i.e. no decoration, an old heater in the room,  and a TV set my mom & dad ditched 10 years ago.  The bed itself was nice and comfortable but don't expect the cleaning crew to make up your room.  When arriving at the Movie Colony, you will need to self park around the corner and then carry your luggage in.  The pool is basic.  On the upshot, service was very nice and the staff puts out a basic (self-service) breakfast in the morning that includes fresh fruit.  We did not stay a 3rd night because the room rate jumped to $250  and I already felt raped at $150 the two nights before..

The Colony Palms is really nice.  Same here again, we took the cheapest room at $129 (+ $20 resort fee); this was an Expedia matched price.  The room was nicely decorated, larger, very clean and overall tasteful, including a flat screen TV and ipod dock.  The bath room had C.O. Bigelow toiletries.  The Colony Palms offers valet and a nice & safe place to pull up when arriving.  Whilst we didn't eat there, the hotel (sorry, motel) offered a full breakfast and dinner menu, and there's a bar in the back.  The pool was somewhat larger (we did, however, not use it).  Staff was a bit stuck up and nowhere as friendly as the Movie Colony.

All in all, the Colony Palms is definitely the way to go.  It's cheaper and much, much nicer.

I'm a huge fan of the Viceroy, but i have a new fav in the Colony Palms. Awesome space, amazing service, and exceptional accommodations. mainly bungalows, and the purple palm in front of the pool is the spot to hang on Saturday nights. a must visit if you are in the valley. non-pretentious, and great fun. Enjoy.

This property has so much promise. What a lovely and relaxed vibe. What a beautiful and friendly pool area and bar. What lovely and understated chic decor... Had I not experienced the downsides I might have thought it a contender as a place to stay in Palm Springs- and I AM a regular of Palm Springs. Instead I will never return for a stay and will advise friends to stay at one of the other elevated options in the area.

I checked in as one usually does and was given a map with my room number circled. I handed it to the bellhop and he led the way to my room. Upon arriving we discovered my keys didn't lock so he had someone fetch me new keys. Once inside I found a cute, simple, small room. Nothing special but not awful. However, within moments of unpacking someone tried to let themselves into my room. I shouted to stop then opened and this staffer handed me an envelope which was addressed to someone else. I informed him of that and he was perplexed then went away. I continued rushing to unpack and ready for a wedding rehearsal when the phone rang. It was a staffer who addressed me by someone else's name. I corrected her. She then asked how I "got the room" and I had to stop her and say, "listen, I didn't DO anything aside from check in as usual and be given this room. If there is a problem here then you need to fix it and phone me with a solution." The issues didn't end there. Most all of the staff was surly and disgruntled with the exception of the bar/restaurant. When I learned from another guest that I was supposed to have a gift bag upon check in I went to the front desk and inquired. The icy response from the yukky bitch at the counter was that "all of the bags are gone. you should check with the bride and groom". As an event producer and best friend of the bride- I know for a fact that the correct number of bags were given to the hotel- and that this error in distribution was theirs.

Overall so bummed that the staff couldn't have cared less about the guests. What a bummer. Stay at the Parker. You will never want to leave. X

Read about the Colony Palms Hotel after discovering that rooms at the Parker were going for $800/night for New Year's Eve.  Wanted somewhere quaint yet chic that the boyfriend and I could escape to for a mini vacation to ring in the new year together.  Nothing too swanky or stuffy....just somewhere nice where we could relax and celebrate.  The Colony Palms was EVERYTHING that I hoped it would be (and more).  I kind of felt like I'd been let into a well-kept secret.  Just as charming and lovely as the Viceroy, but without the pomp and circumstance.  We rang in the New Year at the Purple Palm restaurant in the hotel and not only was the ambience fabulous (we dined poolside), but the food was really delicious (which is rare for a prix fix menu situation).  This is one of those places that not only will I return to, but I would recommend WHOLE HEARTEDLY to any of my friends taking a trip to the desert.  If you're looking for the hippest, most happening scene this might not be the place for you...but if you're looking for a LOVELY hotel with just the right amount of luxury and charm then definitely check out the Colony Palms hotel.

We were here for three nights recently for a wedding.  Stayed in a casita.   The room was great.  We had a private terrace with couches, an umbrella, and a hot tub for two.  The grounds are beautiful.  Lovely pool, nice bar area and attractive restaurant restaurant.  We had dinner one night in the restaurant, and the food was tasty.

My one complaint is that the maid service could be better.  Sometimes it seemed like the housekeeper just made the bed and that was about it.   One day we brought cocktails to the room from the bar, and the used glasses, with straws, limes, and melted ice, were not removed the next morning.  The dead soldiers were just sitting near the sink area.   Which is not so good when you are paying $400/night.  Other than that admittedly small point, the stay was quite enjoyable.  I'd go back.

We spent a fantastic weekend at Colony Palms before my husband headed out on his second deployment.  Everything about this place was great.

The pool was relaxing - not too busy, no crazy partiers or kids, and mellow lounge music playing all day long.  We didn't have too much difficulty getting chairs at the pool as long as we were there by 10am or so.  If that sounds early to you, there is delicious complimentary coffee available for guests!  There is also food and drink service at the pool, and the waiter was timely and polite.

The rooms were great!  Clean, temperate (you have your own thermostat with central air and heat), with lots of character in the decor.  The whole resort oozes "Old Hollywood" glam, which is really unique.

The restaurant/bar is AMAZING.  The food was so good, we ventured off site once and regretted it.  We ate the rest of our meals at the resort.  They have enough variety that you can stay for a few days and try a number of delicious options.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

I read all the reviews and was really excited to visit this place, but was kinda disappointed.

The pool area is nice, but they didn't have enough chairs or umbrellas for everyone.  The service at the pool area sucked.  They were slow and not really friendly.  I didn't see our server smile once.

The spa was okay, but definitely not worth the price tag!  I've had better facials else where for the same price or less.

The rooms were okay. We requested not to be on the Palm Canyon side and they stated they woudln'tt place us on that side. We got there and granted, we haven't ever been there before so I was going on the suggestion from a previous Yelper stating it was loud on that side of the street.  Needless to say the hotel is actually on Indian Canyon Road, which is parallel to Palm Canyon and they put us on that side  and said they didn't know what we meant?!?!?

We had booked a luxury weekend package that was supposed to come with 25% coupons and included 3 course tasting menu and they didn't provide us the coupons until the next day (Saturday).  Really wouldn't have mattered, but we would have done the included tasting menu Friday night since we had a reservation already for Saturday night off the property.

All in all, no the worst and not the best place I've stayed at.  I would visit other hotels before coming here again though.

I would definately stay here the next time I'm in Palm Springs.  It's walking distance from the main drag and they have a great pool there and the rooms are cheap (for Palm Springs).  Be careful that you have enough money to buy drinks at the Purple Room though... one margarita cost me $10.88... there is a liquor store down the street about four blocks...

Last couple times I have stayed here I have been disappointed. Last time, they never cleaned our room. We were gone all day and came back to dirty linens and room service plates and such everywhere. I happened to be sick as a dog so was pretty frustrated. This place is known for their amazing restaurant, and on this trip the restaurant is closed on a Tuesday night. WTF? Also, they are missing some network tv channels. I travel a lot for business so I look forward to some of the comforts of home watching my regular ridiculous tv, but nope not tonight.  Just v disappointed. On the upside, the bartender is super nice and accomodating this trip, linens and room is as lovely as always and I really enjoyed my time by the pool swimming laps and reading.

Wonderful boutique hotel near downtown PS. Old California Spanish with a cozy courtyard featuring a large relaxing pool with lots of lounging options. Rooms are smartly appointed and beds/linens are very comfortable. Great staff, too.

This is our new home away from home. Clean, personal, and pet friendly. I love central Palm Springs, and its always fun to stroll through the Movie Colony and wish I lived in a grand estate.

If you don't want Modern architecture in Palm Springs, then its Spanish all the way. I love the tile, large rooms, lawns, grounds, and pool area. The Purple Palm is fantastic. The overall experience is sophisticated and homey.

Only thing of note.. when making reservations, ask about the discounts or deals. We are going for next weeks film festival and if we didn't ask for the festival discount, we wouldn't have gotten one.

Another note..Koffee is right across the street on E. Palm Canyon.

i just spent the weekend here and i have to say, i'm evenly split between the good and the bad.

the grounds and rooms are lovely and well taken care of.  i like the small escape feel of the pool and the piped in music is good.  also, our room was ready well before the regular check in time.  the snacks at lunch and service at the pool were both above average, and the hotel's location is convenient to the main strip.

now, onto the bad parts:

there aren't enough lounge chairs around the pool for guests. and customer service in general kind of sucked, starting with checking in and the woman on the phone being too busy on a personal call to even make eye contact.

i ate dinner at the restaurant (which has had some amazing reviews)
our waiter was bitchy from the start, complaining about his uniform and the heat ...and anything else he could think of.
both of the appetizers were pretty good (mac and cheese and corn fritter) but the entrees were almost inedible.  i feel like the idea was right, but the seafood was overcooked and rice/pasta undercooked.  we got a piece of tuna so tough you could barely cut it even with a knife.  of course  our waiter was thrilled when we sent it back.

the hotel is running a special where you receive 25% off of your bill including food and drinks, of course, when our bill came, it didn't account for the discount....again, our waiter was thrilled to have to fix the problem.  we finally got the corrected bill, but no pen to sign it with, when we called our waiter over, we got "what, is it still not right!"

i'll be trying a different hotel next time around, but if they fire the cook and  improve the service a little, this could be a fantastic hotel.

I travel to Palm Springs a few times each month for work and always look forward to my stay here. I consider the weekday rates a steal for the service, amenities, and overall hotel experience I get each time I visit. The staff is friendly, the rooms are comfortable, and the poolside spreads, ambient music, and full bar are the perfect remedy for a day at work in the heat! This place is the best kept secret in palm springs!

Spent three days here this week, lovely staff, pool, food and bed. First night we had a bit of a nightmare as the couple next door were breaking up and she was howling like a coyote - poor thing. When we heard her scream at 1am we called front desk and they immediately dispatched security and called in. The couple were delightfully considerate by turning on the shower to hide the sobbing. Next morning we changed rooms (front desk were very considerate). From there on in we lounged, drank and swam through the next few days. The vibe was cool without being too pretentious, there appeared to be a crowd of regulars but they were open and friendly. The lunches (week days $15 pre fix) were great - delish burgers etc. The Sunday brunch was a bit pricey but tasted good.

One note - avoid rooms on the Palm Canyon road side, really noisy - couldn't sleep a wink.

Go! Go there now.

Went here as a treat. What a treat it was. The staff were all very friendly. The pool area is great though I could imagine it getting busy in high season.

We were staying in a suite and personally I would have expected something bigger with a larger seating area. Linens, toiletries and the like were all exceptional.

We'll probably go for a basic room next time as we spent all day by the pool and the evening in the bar and sat in the gardens. Fantastic selection of Speakeasy era cocktails.

Look to see what offers they have. Worth calling also to ask. They won't say unless you ask. We had 25% off our room and everything at the restaurant including drinks.

Can't wait to go back for more pampering.

Every time I don't stay here, I regret it.

From the street, it doesn't look like much.  And the lobby isn't, but so what?

The rooms in this place are adorable.  Very mediterranean, with private seating areas outside.  They have large bathrooms with great toiletries, a gorgeous BAR (not mini-bar) with crystal glasses, gourmet munchies and bottles of booze.  No need to ever leave, but...

The grounds are also gorgeous.  Beautiful pool area with cabanas and large lounging chairs.  Lots of little zen paths with buddhas and tall grasses and water features.  Quiet and private.  Hammocks hiding all over premises.

The restaurant, The Purple Palm, is fabulous.  The steak frites is incredible.  Room service ain't so bad, either.

Beautiful views of mountains.  Serene.  Comfy beds with fluffy linens.  Flat screen tvs playing ambient techno when you arrive.  Friendly staff.

Easily my favorite place to stay in Palm Springs.  Just reeks of old black-and-white hollywood elegance and ice-cold martinis by the pool.

Best kept secret in town.

Just spent a wonderful and relaxing weekend at the Colony Palms Hotel. This boutique hotel, is not obnoxious and huge. The pool area is amazing, with both comfortable chairs and pool beds available to everyone. We spent most of the day by the pool, and they run a great special for food from 2:30-6:00, you can get a glass of wine and a delicious meal (I ordered the chicken sandwich 2 days in a row, it was that good) for $16. Pets are allowed, and our balcony had a little rock area for them to do their "business". The pool is open 24 hours, so after a dinner on the town, you can come back put on one of their complementary terrycloth robes and take a dip, or sit in the jacuzzi. It is centrally located, you can walk everywhere, but it seems remote -from inside the hotel grounds all you see is Palms and Mountains. One of my new Favs, and if you can get a weekday off...the rate is 1/2 the price. Smiles all the way around.

First time here & really enjoyed ourselves.  Nice vibe, gay friendly, eclectic adult crowd, nice jazz piped in among the palm trees. Excellent service at the hotel, restaurant and bar.  Food at the Purple Palm was outstanding, especially their Sunday brunch. Loved our room,  the chic amenities, IPOD player and flat screen.  Yummy bed.  Hotel location is close enough to walk to everything downtown yet far enough away to make the property feel private.  This hotel has the potential to be amazing.  4 stars, not 5 only because of the $18.00/day "resort fee" (???) and, there are too few lounge chairs by the pool (an easy fix).  Will return to Colony Palms, definitely.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights in March and had a great experience.  The settting is very nice - great pool, nice hot tub, the restaurnat seating outdoors overlooks the pool with the San Jacinto mountains in the background.  Jazz music is constantly playing throughout the property via lots of hidden speakers.  Nice touch.  The restaurant food is very good and we enjoyed the Sunday brunch.  I'll also say the hotel staff went above and beyond helping me make restaurant and golf reservations then providing a packet with all the confirmations and directions in my room upon check-in.  Very impressive.  This is definitely more of an adult-only property (which works well for us).
