Collins Park is a hidde gem.  Nestled behind Barbara Bush Library, a church, and a courthouse, driving by you would not notice its even there.  Most people odn't, because it's rarely crowded (just went on MLK day, all kids out of school and beautiful weather, still not too crowded).  The park has many amenities as noted by a previous reviewer.  The basketball court is lighted and I've seen people playing there most times I've been.

There is a large playground with a tower for the kids to climb in.  Toddlers have their own play area so you don't have to worry about them falling off the tower.  They have a covered pavilion with about 6 tables that is useful for bday parties.  Parents will be thankful that bathrooms are adjacent to the playgrounds.

There's a hill near the toddler play area that kids love to roll down.  A trail runs along Cypress Creek for the slightly adventurous.

I like Collins Park. It's one of those places where not everyone really knows about, so it's rarely crowded. They have several softball/baseball fields (which is the primary sport focus of this park), covered basketball courts, soccer fields and two playgrounds. Oh, and a SKATE PARK. Not a cement bowl, but an area of the park has ramps and rails for the local skaters, which is very cool. The play grounds are split between one for the toddlers and one for the bigger kids - both are really fantastic and the big kids equipment is brand new.

Part of the reason this is never really crowded is the fact that Meyer Park is right across the street (and will soon be connected via a walking trail and bridge). And because it's right behind the local police station, it's virtually guaranteed for safety.

Collins is also the launching pad for the Cypresswood mountain bike trails, if you're so inclined.
