Finally I went to Coletti's! I live around here and it's been open forever....I finally made it!
We walked in to your average middle-aged sausage fest. There was not one female in the place besides the bartender and our server. Just an observation and a warning/tip to those looking or not looking for this kind of crowd.
I came here after some slamming party at Rockit and we got pizza...thin crust veggie. We basically devoured the entire pizza, coming up for air once, maybe. Not bad thin crust I must say, then again I was blacked out and barely remember inhaling it, so who knows.
We were the only people in the place eating so the service was good.
I would definitely go back, maybe at a different time though. It's a plce for families; we were seated in the bar area since the dining room had closed.
I just really don't dig the middle-aged bar fly scene yet....give me about 40 years. Check with me then.
I've been a Colletti's customer for a long time, and I've never had a bad meal there. I won't say the food is spectacular, but at its best it's very good and pretty much worth what I pay for it.
This evening I went there with two friends who had never been before, mostly because we had a http://Restaurant.com certificate, and didn't want to drive very far. I have to say they were both impressed with the quality of the food and the service, and I felt it was up to the usual standards. You get a lot of bang for your buck there, and in fact I'd almost be happier with slightly lower prices for less food, but YMMV.
The only complaint I had tonight was that no one refilled our water. It's a small thing, but deserves mention. Oddly, the bus boy was on the spot for everything else. He just didn't think to give us more water.
Colletti's is a good, solid neighborhood place that's a little nicer and pricier than the average mom-and-pop spaghetti place, but as comfortable and friendly. You could do a lot worse.
I go to Colletti's on a semi-regular basis, and generally sit at the bar and order appetizers. The pizza is pretty good (when it's hot), the wings vary from good to laughable (last time they were tiny), service is good.
A friend had his 40th birthday in one of the banquet rooms recently. I thought the food was quite good, the service excellent, and the bar and bartender were both great, maybe even overly generous (my 'shots' were served in a 3/4 full rocks glass), lots of us were wasted by the end of the night. Alas, this tends to happen at open-bar affairs.
I haven't tried the majority of the menu, but what I've had has been good. It is a little old-school/traditional (the menu, the patrons and the ambience), so if you're looking for nouveau-whatever, this is not the place. It's not my favorite traditional Italian joint (that would be Sabatino's--their menu is a bit more adventurous and their portions are huge), but It's a solid family-type place, though maybe a little pricier than most. Bring mom, the kids and grandma.
Fantastic thin crust pizza -- a hands-down favorite.
An old-fashioned neighborhood spot. Decor probably hasn't been updated since the 80s. Ample seating. Good service.
I haven't tried the bar yet, but I might now that the smoke is gone.
Insider tip: they run coupons in the local paper.
Parking: private lot
Bus: Central 85/85A, Pace 225/226
One of my closest girlfriends had her engagement party here. It's a bit out of the city, but the staff was very nice and the food was good-ish (typical banquet hall food).
Our bartender was fantastic. He was charming and poured very strong drinks. They skimp on lime wedges though... so make sure you ask for extra. I was tanked by the time we got through appetizers.
The calamari was a little rubbery, but the sausage/pepper kabobs were very good. Skip the dinner salad, unless you're into finely chopped iceberg lettuce. The roasted chicken was fantastic though. I had a bite of my friend's lasagna... it was deelicious! The steamed vegetables were buttery and good too.
the dessert tray was eh. The cream puffs were made with whipped cream, which was a disappointment. I didn't bother with the other dessert. My friend gobbled up the mini cannolis. He said they were fantastic.
I really liked their roasted chicken. And I don't eat chicken very often.
Not sure I understand some of the bad reviews. I think this place is just fine. I've eaten here numberous times and never had a bad meal or bad service. While it may not be the showstopper of Italian Food, I think the food is done very well, reasonably priced and the service is good.
If you sit in the bar area you kind of get a feeling that some of the mob are in there planning their next gig with all the shifty eyes. But it's a fun place to people watch.
Super nice people, well most of them anyway. I would give the five star big hello just because but there are a few bartenders that have been less than nice to me because of the company I keep. Hey, friends are there for friends, even if it interrupts your tete-a-tete with the used car salesman. The regular cast of characters added a star...trust me, they are fun.
I have a friend that lives nearby and often, this is the option. Its a great family run business but sometimes I feel like I'm in Peyton Place and all I want is some cocktails and bar food. Pizza is great and the sammies are delish. The kitchen staff is superb. If only some of the ladies behind the bar would get the chip off their shoulder, really. Don't be in the service industry if you don't want to serve. Enough said.
For a neighborhood Italian restaurant, it wasn't bad. I do have to agree with the general age of the patrons, even though my girlfriends and I are in our 30s, we were kind of on the young side last night.
Crusty bread was brought to the table, and was very tasty.
I ordered Chicken Parmesean... the chicken was a very good sized portion, and quite moist. It was served with a side of mostaccolli, which was aldente, and meat sauce.
One friend ordered the Chicken Angelina, both the chicken and the asparagus were perfect, and the baked potato, on the side, was not over or under cooked.
The other friend ordered the Cajun Salmon, in the beginning did say that it was a bit spicier than she'd expected, but said that the flavor wasn't too hot to eat, just a shock to her pallet.
All in all it was a nice experience at a moderately priced Italian restaurant, and I wouldn't mind trying it again.
My stepfather and I hosted my mom's retirement party in one of the banquet rooms here, and from beginning to end, everything was FABULOUS. The food is really good, the banquet rooms are nice (nothing at all like a senior citizen home's cafeteria), and the servers who were assigned to our party were extremely accomodating. Considering what you pay for versus what you receive in return, this place is an inredible value.
We decided to pay for an open bar for all of our guests, rather than just open a tab. A couple of my guests ordered things that weren't included with the package (like ultra top-shelf scotch), so the servers checked with me first to make sure that it was okay, but ultimately ended up not even charging me for it anyway. They also waived the cake-cutting fee (I brought in a cake from a local bakery).
We were truly treated like family here, and I would throw another party at Colletti's in a heartbeat.
I held my daughter's baptism luncheon here. The place seemed nice enough and the manager was also quite nice throughout the planning process. We elected to serve a family style lunch. The food was okay, nothing spectacular but nobody got sick or complained.
My only complaint was the bartender and the bar tab itself. I opened a tab for all of the guests at the beginning of the event. The bartender completely ripped me off. He did not keep track of anyone paying for their own drinks, he just tacked it on to the tab and kept the money. To top is off he was sloooow and had quite an abrasive personality.
Would I ever go back... probably not. I know I won't be having a banquet there!
I have been going to Colletti's since it was called "El Central (correct name?)"
I think the food is very good. I get the pizza for take-out quite often. You can't go wrong with the "Colletti's Combo" Pizza. A good amount of toppings and a nice thin crispy crust.
I was surprised by how extensive their menu of authentic Italian cuisine is. Excellent steaks and ribs as well. This is a place I would recommend for a special occasion, they are slightly on the upscale side. The servers all work very hard and are attentive, but not so much so that they are stalkers, do you know what I mean. Some places that kind of attentiveness can make you uncomfortable. There is a parking lot which is always a plus for me.
So i always thought this place was a bit cheesy, as far as first impressions go on the outside...but we decided to give it a chance a few weeks ago with some friends. I had a cup of their french onion soup that was done extremely well! and believe it or not their pizza is amazing!!! The inside of the restaurant kinda reminded me of a senior citizen home cafeteria, but the pizza was well worth my geriatric moment! The waitress was a bit slow, but at that point we were almost done with dinner. We also had a really great dessert, it was a baked chocolate chip cookie pizza with the works, i almost couldn't get up after that but heyyyyyyy....never say no to a chocolate chip cookie the size of your dinner plate :P
Nice little sit-down restaurant - decent prices and decent food. Not usually packed and not much parking avaliable. Well worth it to try and catch their summer rib fest!!
Colletti's has decent food, good service, and an atmosphere that is somewhat old-fashioned but not "musty". An excellent northwest-side choice if you need to treat a moderate-to-large size crowd to a reliable sit-down dinner. Seems to be often busy but never crowded, the patrons tend to be older and more blue-collar so it's a nice relief from the yuppie-laden crowds you find in more trendy italian places.
The Italian fare is middling, save for the pizza which is (I'll admit grudgingly) pretty good. That said the service is utterly dreadful with a hostile management to boot. Even though it's the closest "nice" restaurant I will not set foot in it any longer.
Went to Colletti's for Father's Day 2008. They first tried to seat us in the bar. Since we had kids with us, we really didn't need to watch all the drunks and losers so we asked for the dining room. The waiter and the fresh bread were the highlights of the evening. The food was barely passable. They should be embarrassed about their prices. Cobb salad anyone? If I wanted to eat iceberg lettuce for $10.50, I would have stayed home. The italian food was OK at best. We even got to listen to the waitresses loudly complain about the hostess. Nice touch. I'd rather eat at DUKEs across the street.
This was a second choice dinner spot, snce the first was closed on Mondays. This place has a classic traditional type of feel to it. It seems like more middle age people like to dine here, but probaby because of the neighborhood. We started off with martinis and I had the bluberry cake and my friend had the Pomegranate. Both were delicious. The bread is really nice and warm here, and it's the type where you have to cut up yourself. We split the shrimp cocktail, and I find it strange that it would come in a serving of 5. It's such an odd number. It was very good though, and a tease since we were looking to eat seafood earlier. I had a pretty ordinary salad with ranch dressing, which tasted like Hidden Valley Ranch which I don't really care for. I had the Snapper Special which came with a choice of wild rice or a baked potato and veggies. This was pretty good, and I tried my friend's sausage and escarole which was very tasty. Our waitress was very professional and attentive. I think the food is very pricey for not being in a more happeing neighborhood and even then compared to other great Italian restaurants on the whole. I'd probably stick to some place closer to me for Italian.
