i grew up to colima burger! before i went there, i just thought it was a bunch of asian people re-creating american food with their own chinese style (terriyaki burgers, anyone?)
but like a breath of fresh air from all those asian restaurants and gross fast food chains, Colima burger is a polish-owned hole in the wall. the food is relatively cheap and delicious, and its just a really nice hang-out spot.
I feel they need some sort of renovation, but its a great little place. The only thing i crave after becoming a vegetarian is their delicious chili cheese fries...yum.
I've known about this place ever since high school (back in 02'). Each time, my friends and I would order their chili cheese fries with grilled onions because of it's generous portion size and decent taste. I'm sure the other items on the menu taste good, just like any local burger joint.
Recently, I tried their Pastrami Burger. It was definitely portion friendly and was packed with loads of pastrami (major plus). Overall, the taste of the burger was good and it definitely fixed my craving. The fries were also good and plenty. The ranch sauce was also very good.
For what I paid, I would definitely recommend this place for burger and fries over Carl's Jr., Jack in the Box, McDonald's, any day.
Finally no cops! Every time I'm driving by trying to eat here, there are always cops. That's why I never got around to going to Colima Burgers. Quite frankly, I do not wish to get a cavity check or have some dog sniffing me up before I eat. I want to eat peacefully.
So, I was here last weekend with the bf since I was craving for some Chili Cheese Fries (don't ask about my cravings with fries and cheese, I just love cheese and fries), so we came here and ordered the following:
1. avocado bacon cheese burger
2. bacon cheese burger
3. chili cheese fries with fresh cut onions -
Let me tell you, it HIT the SPOT. Their portions are really generous, too. I was so full, I nearly had to roll out of there.
Bottom line: Don't come here if you are looking for some romance, clean air and some Jason Mraz music playing in the background. instead, you'll find flies happily flying over your food, tables with crumbs, and a tv that has a lot of static. I don't remember what kind of music they were playing, but if I don't remember it, it wasn't poppin'.
After moving to Walnut in 98. There weren't many places (back then) that I actually liked around the area. This place was definitely an exception to the rule, and still is. Everything my friends and I have had here is awesome. From breakfast, to lunch, to dinner. The Omelette breakfast's are awesome, the chili cheese omelette I've only had once, it was AMAZING but extremely unhealthy. My favorite lunches are the Pastrami Combo with lots of yellow chilies, Chicken Melt (a white meat version of the Patty Melt), and of course the Hamburger or Cheeseburger Specials. If you're ordering for 2 or more to go, I'd recommend ordering your entrees and ordering a few sides to share, one of my favorites to share with a date is the Pastrami Chili Cheese Fries. While they aren't on the menu, just ask for them and they will gladly make them for a little more than regular chili cheese fries.
This was the place I always used to go to during my high school years. Every time I go back home, I always have to hit this place up at least once. Has by far one of the greatest chili cheese fries that I've eaten. Make sure that you ask for grilled onions on your chili cheese fries. And don't be shy with the Tapitio sauce.
I've never really tried the other stuff (other than some burgers and salads) on the menu because I just know the place for its chili cheese fries.
Burritos are good. The burgers are great. The chili cheese fries are to die for. This is the definition of your local favorite burger joint. Screw going to McDonalds across the street. COME HERE.
The portions are great, the prices are about right, and the taste will satisfy your (hopefully) once in a while urge to get the greasiest food possible. Even the salads will KILL YOU. Place is not the most spotless and cleanest place in the world. But with these kind of places, the shadier it looks, the better it tastes. Or so I keep telling myself.
I drool thinking about this place.
This joint serves food that is really good and the prices aren't so bad that you're wallet feels like committing suicide. I'll come if I'm in the mood for comforting, delicious, greasy, greasy food... I mean, you know the food's good if there's a pile of oil in your chili cheese fries staring you right in the face and you still can't stop eating.
The workers are really friendly, too. They always try speaking to me in Chinese ha...ha...haaaa.
Been eating here for years. A great cheap alternative to the chain diners. Not everything on the menu is great, but if you stick with the basics, you're in for a good meal at a good price.
My family's favs: hamburgers, breakfast burrito, omlettes, pancakes, chili cheese fries w/ extra onions.
I've ventured off the normal path a few times and have been disappointed. I'm sure some of the other stuff is great, but not worth the risk for me.
I've been coming here off and on for a few years. This is the closest Mexican place in Rowland that is actually pretty good. This place is family own and very popular among the locals. The store is on the corner and has a large area to sit and relax. Place seems like it needs some interior design and is kinda dirty. But which Mexican place isn't dirty lolz.
Anyways, I haven't been as experimental to try newer stuff but.... the chili cheese fries are awesome with grilled onions. Definitely a top favorite. Surprising for a store called Colima burgers... their burgers ain't that good. I actually love their carne asada burrito. Now here's the kicker. If you order to go and you want fries, ORDER THE SMALL FRIES. the small size fries is a freaken super size at Mickie Dee's size. Save your dough. You actually get less fries if you order in. Kinda weird... or maybe it's just me.
Not the best Mexican food, but it sure does hit the spot when you are craving it.
Yummy huge burgers! They give you an abundant amount of crispy fries. Service is what you'd expect at a fast food joint. Beware they only take cash!
You have one in your neighborhood...yours might be called Jim's Burgers, or Tam's Burgers, or Boys Burger, or Galaxy Burger, or Fantastic Cafe, or Dukes, or Flames, or Yellow Basket...When I was working in the 626, mine was called Colima Burger.
Not great, not horrible...Colima Burger features generously portioned breakfasts, burger combos, carne asada fries, etc...everything made to order.
I've been coming here for years...their breakfast burrito certainly doesn't disappoint. Especially w/ the fresh salsa?!? yum...Burgers are also yummy!
First off....WOW. I have always been an enthusiastic admirer of all things breakfast....not to mention a perhaps innate fondness for burritos....that "coupled" with my lifelong sizzling greasy love affair with BACON could only mean one thing this morning....time for my weekly bacon breakfast burrito binge (how yalike that inadvertent alliteration?)
I make the mini trek down Colima to Walnut/Rowland Heights/Diamond Bar....what city am I in.....does it really matter?! Absolutely not! I can waft the greasy breakfasty goodness from the parking lot and I get that anticipatory rumbly in my tumbly... Mighty overwhelming menu if I do say so myself...but I came here for one thing only....order up the $5.69 breakfast burrito with bacon along with what I have always referred to as the Mexican Orange Julius....that's right amigos....ORANGE BANG! LOVE this stuff.
The interior is your run of the mill ho-hum greezy spoon design, lady behind the counter is kind and eager to serve, reminiscent of my old aunts back in East LA that want to fatten me up everytime I came to visit way back when....anywho.... I pull out the plastic and am aghast when she utters that phrase I dread so very much...."CASH ONLY!" Ok ok she didn't scream it...but still....you catch my drift. Alas, I am able to scrounge some bills and happily await my much needed comfort food.
Now, the MAIN EVENT! I WHet my whistle with the BANG!...yum. One bite of the burritto has me raving (in my head) Not too much egg (cooked just right) just enough really good potatos, the extra cheesiness is awesome and luckily theres no such thing as TOO MUCH BACON so this thing is right up my alley! I attempt to slow down and savor this bit of paradise wrapped in a tortilla...but I can't.....it's so damn good I practically inhale half of it! Believe it or not I show some restraint and pack up the other half to go....now comes the next morning reheat taste test....to my amazement....still delicious. Colima Burgers expect my return shortly and I may even order up those famous chili cheese fries to further decelerate my sanguinary stream. =) Throw a little salsa in the burrito and take my credit next time.....5 stars f'sho.....F'SHO.
Food = 5 stars. Service = 3.
I use to come to this place all the time, and yes, their chili cheese fries are REALLY good. It's also the only place like this within a 5 mile radius. So I can understand all the great reviews.
A few years ago, I came here and the guy was being a complete jerk, (usually they're really nice), I think it was the worst service I ever had. Anyways, to make a long story short, I haven't been back since.
It should average out to 4 stars, but I can only give this place 3. I don't think I ever hated anyone who gave me such good food before, until I met this guy.
dropped into colima burgers a while ago prior to a round of golf at royal vista golf club.
colima is a cross between a burger joint and a greasy spoon and serves up big honking loads of food. although i was set on having a burger on my drive out, my internal clock was still in breakfast mode so i ordered up their breakfast platter which consisted of sausage, eggs, hash brows and pancakes. and, iirc, the plate cost a mere $5 or something ridiculous like that.
my buddy got the breakfast burrito and only ate 1/2 of it due to the sheer size of it....then again, my buddy is a wussy eater.
service was your standard order at the counter and get your food as it is ready. no fancy white table cloths or parting gifts.
wait, they do give you a parting gift.........you will smell like grease all day. lols!
solid breakfast food and huge portions = a cardiologist's wet dream.
next time i play at royal vista, i'm gonna drop in and try out the burgers and chili cheese fries.
3.5 stars!
My husband and I used to love coming here untill I ordered a salad with a stinkbug in it. Gross. Got sick later that day. Was not cool. =0P
Food-
This place has THE BEST chilli cheese fries anywhere with a 20 mile radius. i've grown up on the chilli cheese fries here. The burgers here are big and they give you a TON of fat fries which i always seem to burn my tongue on since they're always piping hot when they give it to you.
Service-
I've had really bad experiences when it comes to service at this place. Just today i ordered some CCF and so did the guy after me, it took abnormally long for it to come out, they called out the guy who was after me's number first and i got pretty angry.
They never seem to get my burger right either, NO TOMATOES MEAN NO TOMATOES
5 stars for food 2 stars for service
My BJJ school used to be above Colima Burgers but I never paid any attention to it because it was a hole in the wall place and looked kinda dirty. I only went in to go pee before class started.
Fast forward a few years later... I wanted to take my sister out for her birthday, and since she's a really cheap date, she chose Colima Burgers. She ordered chili cheese fries with grilled onions while I had a double hamburger (hold the spread- I've been trying to cut back).
Fast forward an hour later... I had eaten this huge burger and had 1/3 of chili cheese fries in my tummy, and I swore to the gods I was going to keel over and have a heart attack at that very moment. My insides were screaming punishment, but damn did it taste good at the time.
When I'm ready to further clog my arteries this is the first place I'll go. Yay!
Breakfast Review...Lord Have Mercy!
Sunday morning at Colima Burgers: french toast w/ scrambled eggs and crispy thick bacon and country fried steak covered in a bucket of savory sausage gravy with toast, chunky hash browns and eggs. The gravy so good I was dipping everything in it- the toast, bacon...my fingers!
*thump thump...ker thump* Heart attack waiting to happen.

Craving that greasy, unhealthy, heart attack city food? This hole in the wall place is for you! Kind of hard to find if you're coming from the south, semi-steep driveway into the parking lot. The menu is the standard burger joint, although they have side dishes, some mexican plates, and salads (ironic). Been here for breakfast as well and the portions are filling.
When you walk inside you can feel the grease in the air, that's how good it is. This restaurant has been around since forever so the interior design and decor is very dated, but nonetheless when you settle in and start munching away you'll forget about your surroundings.
Chili Cheese Fries are never a miss here, you can add fried onions for a bit more. My only complaint is that they should have more meat with the chili; they recently added the chicken strips combo which is OK, but I grew up eating the CCF here. They have one semi-broken tv in here but you're mainly here to eat the food, digest, wallow, then leave.
The booths are for groups of 4, they have some booths for 2, 1 table outside, and 2 tables for larger groups. They have a fountain drink machine so you can wash down the glob of greasey goodness with 2 or more refills. This place is a genuine hole in the wall restaurant but it has been the greasy gem for many years and many more to come.
Yum! Chili Cheese Fries are so good.
I've been going to Colima Burger since high school and boy is it good stuff. I still go about once a month or so. My favorite things to get are the chili cheese fries, the fish sandwich, the turkey burger, and the BREAKFAST combo burrito (not to be confused with the regular combo burrito). When I was still in high school I had less self-restraint and no sympathy for my digestive system and would order things like the chili dog + chili cheese fries or that huge country fried steak breakfast platter. I guess I still have no restraint since I order combo meals there + chili cheese fries and consume all of it anyway. (The only difference now is that I have a gym membership and a conscience nowadays.)
So sure the place could use a little renovating, some new furniture, and a lively paint job, but it still retains the same Mom and Pop look from 6+ years ago (Oh, I guess they did get a new soda fountain located in an area that customers have free reign upon.) It is also one of the few places in the area that have the Orange Bang drink. So treat yourself to some American food that you'll most likely regret eating but most thoroughly enjoy chomping through.
COlima burger is just another one of those neighborhood burger stores. Their food to me tastes like how it would at any of the other local burger places. But one thing i LOVE about this place is there chili cheese fries. Top it with some grilled onions and MANN!! you are in chili cheese fries heaven! its obviously not the healthiest but sometimes u just crave that greasy food and this will totally satisfy you. i can never finish this whole plate by myself. Price is totally affordable so i won't complain. They really need to work on the A/C here tho. it gets disgustingly hot in the summer!!! Makes it very uncomforatble to enjoy your food. usually if its too hot i togo it and eat it at home. But if you do happen to come here...definately give their chili cheese fries a try!
Great breakfast... maybe the only "burger-joint breakfast" place in the immediate vicinity. Definitely gives off the "non-chain" charm where you know this isn't another Denny's, McDonald's, or Farmer Boys, and their food is a little less expensive and a little more quality.
I sometimes ditched work in the mornings, and when I did, this was the place I'd head over for breakfast. Anytime I'm feeling like chicken-fried steak this is where I will go. Along with the hash browns (and lots of it), eggs, and toast, you can't help but feel like this is some good comfort food.
I am definitely a fan of this place and imagine coming back here again in the next couple of months.
Pros:
Good Greasy Burger and Fries
Good Prices
Close to My Place
Cons:
Wish it was even closer... like replace the Burger King.. ha
For a pastrami in a hurry, this is a good place. The pastrami sandwiches are delish and worth every cent. I have been to both Togo's and Subway for a pastrami - big mistake.
For chili cheese fries: Arry's in Montebello.
The fact that I'm giving this place a four despite finding alarmingly thick and curly hair in my chili cheese fries with extra grilled onions HAS to be a testament to Colima Burger's greatness. And obviously, my friends and I had to just push the questionable hairs to the side and continue eating... IT IS THAT GOOD.
I love this place. The portions are GIGANTIC, the food is salty, cheesy, fatty, oily, and heavy... just the way I like it. You say, "Colima Burger?" I say "Extra MSG and trans fat please!"
They also have the best Orange Bang and seriously, OB doesn't taste the same everywhere... TRUST ME. The Goleta 7-11 near Ellwood has THE nastiest Orange Bang... It tastes like plastic!
I love getting the little yellow peppers and spraying the juice all over my chili cheese fries then waiting for the whole mess to become congealed and soggy and then eating the entire thing in one bite. DROOL FEST 2008.
Get offa Yelp and hit this!
My friend, Eric C. took me here for the chili cheese fries. They're good, but not as good as Tommy's heavenly chili cheese fries. Colima's chili has the same consistency as Tommy's--thick, hearty, and pasty. Yet, it wasn't as meaty and dark. Eric also recommended the homemade turkey burger. The handmade was thin and nicely season. The veggies were fresh, the lettuce crunchy. Very nice burger!

Couldn't find the place at first, until coming South on Fairway did I see it was across the street from those luxurious jewelry and name brand stores. Needless to say, not the best of locations and if you're car is lowered like mine, watch for that dip in the drive-way.
After reading several of the reviews, many stated that the Chili Cheese Fries were the way to go. They did NOT disappoint. They are clearly on par with my favorties, i.e. Topps, Lucky Boys, and The Hat. Thick cut fries and a hearty serving of chili-cheese made for a filling meal. I would highly recommend coming here for another serving!
I should mention that the cashier was not so pleasant, It took him a good couple minutes to get behind the register and take my order after filling his cup with some soda up front. But whatever, can't knock the guy for doing his job. My uncle and I chose not to eat there, it was too cold.
When leaving the parking lot, ,make sure you look well left because those cars parked on the side of the street make getting hit an easy target (*safety notice*).
I LOVE Colima Burgers. I've lived in DB my whole life (well.. went off to undergrad, grad, and live in sd now .. but the parents still live there) and I've been eating at this place since elementary school! I still can't get enough of this place. Every time I go back home, this place is a MUST to eat at and I always get the same thing.. CHILI CHEESE FRIES w/ GRILLED ONIONS and (my new discovered topping/ love) PASTRAMI (~$7).. yes pastrami! There is nothing comparable!!! Also the portions are HUGE! I also recommend the Tamalas with chili! I love their chili and they put so much chili over the Tamalas!
This is definitely a hole in the wall place, but it's awesome and cheap! I totally recommend this place!
This place is a godsend. When I first found this place I praised God for sending me a little slice of Heaven in Rowland Heights. Yelpers, if you want a classic "Hole-In-The-Wall" burger place with big burgers and big fries, come here! I used to come here a LOT but I've been hitting the gym and trying to get fit.
This place MAY be a teeny bit pricey-er, maybe not but I think its worth every cent. If you come here you HAVE to try the Chili Cheese Fries with Grilled Onions. When I come in I usually get the Hamburger or Pastrami Combo. (Pastrami isn't AS good as The Hat's but it gets the job done). If you're hungry and want your money's worth eat here its a great place and the staff are super nice (atleast to me lol). I'll be visiting here everytime I comeback from college (that is IF I go somewhere far away). TRY THIS PLACE OUT!!!!! I want to give this place PROPS
Oh yea btw, if you come here for breakfast, get the country chicken fried steak with the hash its the bomb..
The burgers are huge here and they give you loads of fat fries for only around 6 dollars. They have things from breakfast to dinner. They have a big variety on the menu for everyone and even though its not the nicest looking place to eat, the food is great and fresh and i might have to say that i would prefer colima burger over in and out :) most of the burgers i tried were great and the chili cheese fries is a must get
I've been coming to this place since high school. They have the best chili cheese fries I've ever had. Adding grilled onions is a must.
Bring a defibrillator, you may need it after consuming all that fatty goodness.
Chili cheese fries is the bomb with a Coke or Orange Bang! Been coming here for years. A secret hole in the wall that will remain here for years to come. Great hole in the wall food and with all the Asians taking over, I'm gonna continue to support the people that own this place, there's way too many Asian restaurants that not even good. Go to Monterey Park for real authentic Asian food.
Colima Burger has the best chili cheese fries. Ever. EVER. So many imitate, none compare. Not Tommy's, not Pinks - nobody.
I first discovered them back in high school when taking SAT classes upstairs from Colima Burger. Actually, that's a lie - my sister was the one that took SAT classes there. I was never the academic type - while she was upstairs in class, I'd be downstairs, slacking off and eating my chili cheese fries.
Every time I visit the parents in Diamond Bar I make sure to drop by Colima Burger for some chili cheese fries. With onions. And my sister? I guess SAT school did some good for her. She's a doctor now. Which is more than I can say about myself.
Just having arrived back from Asia, this has been my first burger in about two or three months, so perhaps the review is a bit skewed. Got a chili burger (no cheese since I suddenly became lactose intolerant overseas), and it was absolutely delicious. Not too greasy, which was a big plus, being my first American meal in a while. The chili was amazing too, though not what I was expecting - instead of large pieces of beans and meat, it's a more finely ground paste. Prices are a tad higher than I'd like, but I suppose they're about normal for this type of joint (coming from a country where food is 1/3 of the price, everything feels expensive here).
Colima Burgers is a testament to the honest American hamburger. Nothing gourmet here, just satisfying heart stopping comfort fast food that wouldn't know a focus group from a Hungry Hungry Hippo.
The pillar of this place is its greasy spoon chili, which harbors sensations of spice and heartthrob in a form too soupy for a fork but too adhesive for the absence of fear. The result is an equilibrium of taste and texture that calls into question the very purpose of the condiment: were chili dogs not created by God to make a mess of man?

Chili cheese fries and pastrami. One of the better grill joints in the area. Not for the health conscious. But you deserve not to be without. You deserve a treat every once in awhile.
The hamburger is done right as well and the combo is a great deal. Not to mention the onion rings are huge and plentiful as well as they should. Reminds me of my childhood growning up pin Carson and eating after grade school at the local Apollo burgers.
all i gotta say is... chili cheese fries with pastrami on top.... oh my drool!
When I think of Colima Burger, I think of greasy burgers and fries. I think of pastrami and chili. I think of a menu that has everything a trucker could ever want. I also think of my childhood.
I grew up in Walnut and I distinctly remember going here when I was really young (young enough to order a hot dog without the bun!). Although this place doesn't have the cool arcade games like Walnut Burger did (R.I.P.), Colima Burger offers a trip down memory lane.
Arguably, my favorite memory is the Pastrami Burger. FYI: If you are full after a normal McDonald's meal (like a #1), then don't get fries with your Pastrami Burger. They don't pull any punches with the hamburger and are plenty generous with the pastrami and pickles. MMM Don't forget to try their corn dogs (top notch) and Monte Cristo Sanwich (let the cheese cool before you bite into it!).
Now if they could only get rid of a few tables to make room for pinball...
P.S. The map isn't accurate. Colima Burger is on the Corner of Colima/Golden Springs & Fairway, on the North East corner (across from McDonald's on Fairway).
