This place deserves an extra star just for the naming convention of their sizes: Like it, Love it, Gotta Have It. Hand mixed ice cream. Choose from a preselected concoction or create your own. They also sell ice cream shake, cakes, and hand packed ice cream to go. Gotta Have It size is for masochists like me who feel pregnant afterwards, but who cares. Indulge I say!
Must get: 'Friends don't let friends eat grocery store ice cream' promo T-shirt (if you can find it). I have one suckers!
- I always tip and they (thankfully) have never sung for me
- recommend creamcicle or birthday cake remix
- slightly more indulgent than I'd like but it's nice once in a blue moon
- better to share with a friend, I've always found it hard to finish it on my own, in any size
I love their Vanilla Bean shake w/ banana in it!
first time, thought it was too heavy and creamy.. but fresh!
now... addicted!!
In Cali, they do sing for customers when they get the tips!
haven't seen it in NYC... anyone?? @.@
This is a chain. Back in California, they charge you significantly less for the same "cold stone creations" so it's seen more as just another chain ice cream place like Ben & Jerrys. Here, its more revered or something - probably because it's $6 for a medium sized ice cream! The ice cream flavors are unique (I enjoy the cheesecake flavor) and the whole mix-in idea is good. They do have a good amount of toppings, as well as frozen fruit.
It's good, but because it's $6 we go once a month or less and we share.
No, seriously...stop singing to my ice cream. It doesn't like it and neither do I.
Aside from that, I really do love your waffle bowls. But you make my stomach hurt because as much as I love you and all dairy I am, in fact, lactose intolerant. But you're ice cream and I love you.
Just...please stop singing to my ice cream.
I finally tried this place after hearing from so many people telling how wonderful it is. The concept is very interesing, and it's interesting watching them put the ice creams together. And be forewarned the portions are huge. Not to mention it's a bit pricey. One question though how do you run of bananas if one of, actually several of your signature flavors include them. I'd go again probably go again and some point. But I'm just not gonna go running in there screaming, we all scream for ice cream.
After the success of the 42nd Street location, Cold Stone has opened another location and is slowly taking over the world (much like Starbucks and Duane Reades in NYC)! Although this place deserves 5 stars for the sweet cream ice cream alone, the small size of this place bumps the rating down a bit. Make your own combination (bananas and mini Reese's cups or oreos and cherries) - it's up to you! Or, choose from their Cold Stone Originals combinations - I hear Birthday Cake is excellent.
Some of the flavors weren't 'ready' (and it was 1pm) so the staff tried to sub others without me noticing. When it was apparent I wanted vanilla, my server went to the back to answer phone calls instead. There was no one working the register and 3 people were standing around waiting to pay. I walked out and called the parent company about it; they sent me a coupon. I'll redeem it at another location.
I like Cold Stone, and I like the whole concept of picking your own crap to mix into ice cream... And I'd love to tip the hard-working ice cream mixers, but... when you tip them, they have to sing. All these different songs about Cold Stone, they have to sing. And it just makes me mortified for everyone involved and in the building and I just can't deal with that, so I get a pint of Ben & Jerry's instead.
I'm not much of a dessert person, but I have to hand it to Cold Stone for their innovative ice cream flavors. A cup/cone can be on the pricy side ($5; however, the portions ARE large), and the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream is worth a visit.
This place is extremely overrated. The ice cream is tasty but it's so rich and creamy that after a few bites it's hard to take much more. The amount of ice cream they give you is ridiculously large too. It's price is also inflated though.
first of all, i am wondering why it costs $5 for ice cream. also, the people that work here are pretty much horrible at their jobs. also, who thought of the "like it" "love it" "gotta have it" because there's no way i'm ever going to walk into some place and say "hi could i have a vanilla gotta have it please" because i'm not a tool and this place is not gonna make me into one thanks. i like the consistency of the ice cream though so i mean i'll probably continue eating it despite the horrible service, etc.
