Love the birthday cake remix here!  It's the only flavor I ever get.
I've had others but birthday cake is what I crave!

The ice cream cakes here are fabulous!  They are not like the Carvel cakes where its completely ice cream, these actually have cake layers in it, so cake, ice cream, cake, ice cream.  Its soo awesome!
The chocolate dipper is to die for!  Devils food cake layered with sweet cream ice cream with chocolate shaving wrapped in fudge ganache.  Yum yum yum, nom nom nom!

Service here is finicky, sometimes you got the cool kids who have mastered the mix and sometimes you got the la dee da ones who will mix till your ice cream is just about melted and like soup.

Well, I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

Coldstone is a good trusty standby.

Their ice cream is good (not great), they have a great selection (incl. some unique creations), and service is usually fast and friendly.

Not a bad spot for a cone, frappe, or sundae.

All fat and not flavor makes Hana MAD
So sad, so sad.  So many ice cream nearby on Newbury.
But it was my friend's b-day,
    Her birthday, her choice.

    Good friend I am,
willing to eat bad ice cream.
Or rather, should've just dragged her to CVS
    To buy a Nestle Drumstick.

There was a period of time when Coldstone first opened and I'd go at least three times a week with my ex boyfriend and get a "Gotta Have It" sized ice cream in a waffle cone. GROSS! WTF is wrong with me?!

Since then I've gotten my act in shape and only indulge in Colstone occasionally. I happen to really love their ice cream. Specifically, any of their cake batter or cookie dough ice cream. In terms of their Signature Creations, my stand-by has always been the Birthday Cake Remix, but I also love the Peanut Butter Cup Perfection (anything with ice cream + peanut butter = amazing), Cookie Minster, and Cheesecake Factory.

I always feel bad for the people working here. It's always busy, they have a lot more manual labor than typical ice cream scoopers, and they have to sing! Suuuucks.

If you want truly good ice cream, this ain't the place. It is fun enough, with lots of mix ins and enthusiastic workers, but the quality of the basic product is lacking. I'm not saying it is _bad_ ice cream, but not at the level of the better ice creams around. I'd say..um..the ice cream is at a Brigham's level, which is fine, but you're paying (I think) at more of a super-premium ice cream level.

Perfectly fine, a US chain that serves very sweet ice cream, but for my money I'd spend it at Herrell's, Toscaninis, Christina's, JP Licks, Emack and Bolio's or White Mountain Creamery. Or Ben and Jerrys. I wish sometimes these better shops had the line I see coming out of Cold Stone Creamery..

I admit to having a bit of a hometown bias, and want to support the little, local guy, also. Can't pretend I don't boost the local yokels a bit.

When Cold Stone first became popular I was so excited to try it when I did I thought it was good, but nothing crazy. It is verrryyy filling and I'm not sure how you could really even finish a small one. Its a good place to try because they make their ice cream creations different and will even sing a song for you! :)

For Thanksgiving someone brought a pumpkin pie ice cream cake from there and it was awesome!

Birthday Trish eat Birthday Remix and Trish's tum-tum hurt mucho. Owwwwweeeee.

Not sure if I had food poisoning from another place already or if I just hadn't had that much sugar in awhile.. but I did NOT feel well afterwards. OooOooOooHhhhhh.

Other than that incident, I don't mind Coldstone. It isn't my favorite, but if I'm craving ice cream and I'm walking by one.. I'll go. The portions are ginormous. I can't stop when it comes to ice cream and I always finish my serving, so I usually get a stomachache if I eat a full meal beforehand.

I will say that their staff is VERY nice. I'm glad that they made them stop singing because they always looked so miserable when they got tipped.. and that's not how it should work. lol I've walked in here before, slightly inebriated, asking for one almond or one red gummy bear atop my ice cream etc. and they were great about my requests. So they're cool with me. HAH

Anyway.. join their birthday club and get a free "love it" size of one of their birthday creations. Just don't get Birthday Remix after eating a full lunch.

    First things first - I love ice cream...LOVE IT.  I've rarely met a scoop I didn't like.

I wanted to love Cold Stone Creamery as much as the rest of the country seems to love it, but I just couldn't do it.  It was too sweet and almost had a grainy texture to it.  I tried, I really, really did, but half way through my scoop or smoosh in or what ever they call it, I had to throw it out.  What a waste!

Luckily, we have a few really solid, locally owned places that are heads, shoulders, knees and toes above this sub-par chain.

I went today at lunch.  All I wanted was the 99 cent cone they offer.  First, no cone.  Second, no "signature" flavors . . . which they could have mentioned when I first said that I wanted the 99 cent cone.  Instead of watching me think about what I wanted.

Thanks for wasting my time.  This was only the first sign of bad service.  Then they don't have change for a 20.  That's fine, a lot of places don't.  Then they say oops, sorry no paper for the credit card machine, can I take that twenty now? Seriously, I just wasted twenty minutes and they don't give me a cone or anything to make up for the lack.

    Never going back.

I'm giving this Coldstone an extra star because THEY DELIVER!!!

Seriously, this will be the death of me. Since I've made this dangerous discovery on http://foodler.com, I've ordered from here twice. The downside is there's a $15 minimum - which is a ton of ice cream, even for a relatively pricey place like Coldstone. The upside is - it's a TON of ice cream! Mixed with whatever you like! Delivered straight to your door! And delivery has always been relatively prompt, my ice cream never melted. They have screwed up my order once, though not majorly (ordered one like it and one gotta have it, and they gave me two love its). But when a girl needs an order of cake batter ice cream mixed with kit kats, oreos, brownies, fudge AND caramel, there's only one place to go!

I've been to this actual location a few times as well, and the experience is kind of meh. The employees there are never as excited as I am, and I have never once heard anybody sing. But like I said, there's only one place to get my cake batter/kit kat/oreo/brownie/fudge/caramel ice cream, so I'll put up with the grump behind the counter.

I have finally decided to come to terms with you.  I just don't like you, damn it!  And I tried, I tried so hard, Cold Stone!  We started off awesome - we met in St. Thomas and it was a magical hot day in May.  You melted over my hand and I tried to hold on to you - I thought then it would be love.  But when we moved our love here - back home, it seemed to fizzle.  I fought valiantly for you, cheering on your spiciness and eccentric taste (wasabi ginger ice cream, wow!).  You were always creative in theory, but in practice, utterly disturbing.  Each time I went to you, I was left empty and cloyed like some past-her-prime gourmet on the circuit.  I don't like you, Cold Stone.  In fact, I hate you.  Now give me back my $6.17 so I can go spend it at Christina's and get REAL ice cream!!

Oh boy oh boy.  One visit to Cold Stone and you will be hooked for life.  Unlike any traditional ice cream parlor where they have normal ice cream flavors Cold Stone allows you to customize your ice cream flavor by first choosing your base and then picking mix ins like Snickers, fresh berries, and brownie bites.  Go nuts here with a crazy flavor, watch them mix it up and then request an edible waffle bowl to really experience all that Cold Stone has to offer.  Best Buy:  order a berry berry berry good with a cake batter base (you won't regret it)

I guess I stand alone on this. I went here on a work outing once and found it highly overpriced and of questionable quality. I asked for my favorite-- oreo-- and they proceeded to mix the vanilla with cookie bits on stone (the way the used to do at Steve's Ice cream back ing the day). The oreos tasted stale, the portion wasn't very big and I had to sell blood to cover the cost of my cone. Bah. I'm not going back.

This is one of those rare places that makes me kick myself for giving up dairy products.  The cake batter flavored ice cream was amazing -- way too sweet to each much of, but oh-so-tasty nevertheless.  It's definitely overpriced and the lines will kill you in the summertime, but if you haven't been there and are a big ice cream lover, you should definitely give it a try.

YUMMY all around. If you haven't been to a Coldstone yet, you are missing out. As a calorie counter, I found their Sinless Sweet Cream to be a very nice alternative to low-fat ice creams or frozen yogurts. And the toppings are just awesome. It's so tempting to just say "YES, I'll take EVERYTHING on top!" A great treat, though on the expensive side. The combos they have on their menu are fabulous, but of course you can make up your own. They'll also let you try any of their ice cream flavors before commiting.

A Cold Stone Ice Cream cures even my worst day blues... extra creamy ice cream, amazing mixtures, and in my mind, always worth the wait. My particular favorite is ironically the "Founder's Favorite" which is Sweet Cream mixed with walnuts, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce and real brownie - just writing about it makes me want to head over there right now. Prices are high, yes, but you won't be eating this sweet stuff more then once a week - I don't think anyone's body could handle it!

    (review dated 1/08):
    i'm boycotting this store.

there was a time when i couldn't resist but go every week, and i love the banana split cup. i even signed up for their mailing list, and bought cakes for friends & family's bday.

then came one day when i presented a... sort of like a food club card to them, and they said they didn't recognize it and wouldn't honor the discount that i wish to enjoy. fine. so i paid for my cup of ice-cream. but when they gave me the "love it" size instead of the "like it" size that i wanted after i found out that i couldn't use the club card discount, they CLAIMED to charge me only for "like it". however, when i counted my change as i left the store, i found out it's less change than i usually get (i've been ordering the exact same thing for past few weeks). but they didn't charge me for a "love it" size, either. i'm wondering if they just punch in a topping (which i didn't order) and make up the difference. bottom line, i don't appreciate them cheating me off (and you're talking about not even $1! come on now).

i will still go to cold stone, but i abruptly stopped going to this particular store since then, even though that's the one i'd pass by most often. the kind of sacrifice i'd willingly make just to show my distaste in bad service. my body will thank them, though.
    :)

I know it is a chain, but it is soooooooooo good. The white chocolate is so rich and delicious that I can't even do it justice with words. While I was skeptical about the prices and portion sizes, i learned that the ice cream was so rich, you really do not need a lot. I love everything about the place, except for the weird songs they sing when you tip them. Not sure what that is all about.

I don't think anyone can say anything negative about this place.  It is just amazing.  Be careful on weekend nights (esp. in summer, but even in winter) as the lines are out the door.   Everything is amazing.  Cake batter is the BEST base flavor.  We have our own signature mix:  cake batter ice cream, brownie, cherry pie filling, and graham cracker.  Advice on how to save money:  If you and someone else can agree on a flavor, get a pint, quart, or even a bucket.  It is WAY cheaper than a few ind. cups and tastes just as good.  Also, look for coupons in those coupons booklets they hand out at area colleges.  I'm sure the ice cream cakes are great...but they are EXPENSIVE!!!  Maybe I'll get one for my b-day. :-)

It's fun in the beginning, until all the hype is gone. You get to choose your own flavor and mix-ins, but once you've been there a couple of times, the hype is gone and you realize that the ice cream lacks flavor and you've just consumed a zillion calories. Oh, did i forget to mention they're way overpriced for bland ice cream?

You can mix anyting you want into your own icecream flavor. How great is that. Personally I go for a white choclate and strawberry icecream mix with real strawberry's mixed in, but the choclate brownie and fudge mix is just as good. Try out the cakes as well, although I think you have to buy the whole thing usually due to the lack of cut slices.

I'll admit that I've never been a huge fan of ice-cream; and especially not in the winter time. But who could resist a free deal when it's sent to you in your inbox as a birthday treat from Cold Stone, right?  The "ice-cream artist" told me I could have a "love it" size with my certificate, but I told her a "like it" size would be enough since I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it, and there's no need to be greedy right? I chose the Strawberry Shortcake Serenade with "sweet cream ice-cream, yellow cake, strawberries, and whipped topping." The "sweet cream" ice-cream tasted like vanilla, and the texture of the cake didn't really go well with something like ice-cream, but I did enjoy the strawberries. I can see how this place would really appeal to ice-cream lovers, so don't forget the desktop calendars with printed coupons for each month available at the counter.

I think it's a little peculiar when everyone I know reports horrible stomach problems after eating here.  The cake batter ice cream just gave people salmonilla.  So they have good ice cream that you can choose what you want and there are chocolate covered waffle bowls.  But that's where the fun stops. The last time I was there was on an hour long break from work.  All I wanted was ice cream.  I stood in a very long line and there was an employee coming around with taste tests.  I inquired about the other flavors and he referred me to a menu laying in the bushes. When I finally got inside with the clock ticking, there were only 3 people working.  One had her kids there and they were running around touching everything and she was screaming at them.  Another left to go talk to her boyfriend.  The other one was holding up the line talking to a customer about how an employee had been fired via email.  They didn't have it together to say the least.  It took over an hour to get a scoop of ice cream and I have not been back since.

Oh my gosh YUM.  This ice cream is soooo good.  It's hommade ice cream that you can add absolutely anything to.  They hand blend everything on a - you guessed it - cold stone.  My favorite is birthday cake remix - brithday cake ice cream with spriknles, brownie and fudge mixed in.  A word of advise: this ice cream is pretty rich, so a small will leave you pretty satisfied.  And the frozen yogurt is a no-go - it takes like a whole lotta nothing.  Only head here if you're looking for the real deal.
