I had never done yoga before, and so I was very apprehensive. They were so warming, and welcoming and just really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable both on the mat and off.
This place caters to serious yogis and yoginis as well as to beginners. I can't imagine there being a better place to practice yoga.
Serious kudos...COIL was just named one of Fitness Magazine's Best 20 Gyms in America!!!

Let me start by saying:
a) I had never, ever done yoga before going to a class at COIL (not at the gym, not at home with a DVD).
b) I am embarrassingly inflexible. Like *not even close to being able to touch my toes* inflexible.
That being said, I have always wanted to give yoga a try but was intimidated given my lack of flexibility. I currently live in LA where there are lots of options but I've been scared to get started.
I finally mustered up the courage to try yoga for the first time while home in Fresno for the holidays and found COIL thanks to the great Yelp reviews. I could have gone somewhere closer to my house in Clovis, but wanted a more authentic first experience than what options in nearby shopping centers seemed to offer.
I took advantage of the $20 for 3 classes deal COIL extends to newbies. I attended beginner and mixed level classes with Kellee and Katie over the weekend. Both instructors were wonderful, offering clear guidance for beginners like myself and variations for those who wanted a challenge. The classes were filled with folks of all genders, ages, sizes, shapes and levels, which made me feel extra comfortable and at home. I wasn't able to do everything perfectly and felt like that was totally okay!
The vibe was super encouraging, warm and welcoming. I left feeling grounded and physically refreshed. My back, which tends to carry the majority of my tension, feels more loose and relaxed than I can remember it being in years. Needless to say, after the two classes, I am a HUGE fan of this place.
I can't wait to go back to COIL next time I'm home in Fresno and only hope I can find something comparable to continue my practice in LA. Thanks to Katie, Kellee, and the wonderful staff for creating such a special place in the heart of downtown Fresno. Just what we need!!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - No E.Fresno, CA351810Oct 27, 2015
I LOVE COIL, but what's up with the cold reception at the front desk?! Never reciprocates smiles nor cares much to engage in conversation, which really falls short of the spirit of the establishment, as all the other staff members are welcoming and warm and friendly.
The person manning the front desk is the first face we see when entering. I hope that they will take time to return their customers' energy and smile.
When that happens, I will give you 5 stars, until then, it's 4.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Karen M.San Francisco Bay Area0189Oct 5, 2015Updated review
Since I was here for over a week and missed my normal yoga class in the bay area, I decided to go to Coil and noticed on their website they moved. First thing I noticed which was a con on my 2013 review was the parking has been much improved - 100% better.
A few blocks from whole foods, this is an excellent location.
And finally still a great yoga studio from the instructors to the ambiance. Highly recommended.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jan 12, 2013Previous reviewThis was the best week I have spent in Fresno thx to Coil Yoga and a facial across the hall at Sheer Bliss.
Pros:
Beautiful studio - wonderful ambiance;
Special of $20 for 3 classes allowed me to experience 3 types of classes;
All instructors were different and very good;
The instruction was on point with the description of the class;
Blackboard was updated for each class to list out the props that were going to be used (great because you are prepared up front); and
I experience a few movements from the instructors that added value to my practice.
Cons:
If you want to park right in front of the studio you need coins to feed the meter, they do not take credit cards. I was lucky enough to park around the corner for free.
Driving from the end of Clovis to the studio (but it was worth it).
I will be attending more classes during my visits over the next year and a half and recommend this studio to everyone. - Nick A.Fresno, CA92Nov 4, 2013
Kelly is a great teacher. Just finished her class. Great flow, and breathing concepts.
She also incorporated a great message at the end.
I would highly reccommend this studio and Kelly Amendola.
The studio has a cozy feel to it. It has more character and charm than other yoga studios .Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alice C.Emeryville, CA4735013Jul 5, 2011
Who would of known: the best small yoga studio in the USA? In Fresno?
Since I had to spend a weekend in Fresno, in trying to keep up my practice, I found Coil. After reading all the raving reviews, does it really live up to its expectation!? The answer is yes!
I choose the Saturday morning advance practice. Although I been practicing yoga on and off for 5 years, I only really taken it seriously a few months back.
My first impression of the studio was: Sweet, old downtown brick building. The interior is tastefully decorated, some merchandise, but there are a lot of space to change, rest, and all the props are organized neatly against the wall.
Class was small with 11 students. Diane was sitting in for Katie, detailed, attentive. The paste of the class is medium, and everyone can adjust the post to their level. Towards the end, we were given a little bit of freedom to practice inversion. It was the paste and style that I like, keeping a good flow while focusing on specific post each class.
Well, not sure when it is the next I will be in Fresno, but I would definitely look forward to practice there again.

Thank you Katie for helping put on a delightful Namaste event for my daughter and her bridal brigade last Sunday. You enhanced our great experience with a fabulous ambience including candles, aromatic oils and fresh flowers. Your talent in making us girls feel bonded before Addy's special day was quite memorable. You are the best!! I can't wait to return to your amazing studio :-))

Best yoga studio!!
Imagine walking into a warm, positive, lovely incense smelling retreat without judgment.
Katie Flinn the owner of Coil Yoga is very warm, gentle, positive spirit who makes you feel right at home. Her staff is the same way. All teachers may teach in a diff way or style but all have the same fun loving spirit that coil is all about. I've had classes from about 5 diff teachers and liked all of them.
But I have to brag... There is something about Katie... It may be that I was lucky enough To get on her schedule for a private session and get a full 60min of one on one attention but I also get attention when I'm in her classes and other teacher classes.
If your looking to take your yoga to the next level I do recommend a priv session with Katie or take her classes. Her privates are amazing she has helped me a lot, body pain, help to release emotions in connection with yoga, mind and body. It's your session so you will get what you want out of it and she is there to help and show you the way through yoga.
I've tried yoga in Fresno at 3 other studios just to fit around my schedule not because I didn't want to go to coil only for the timing of classes that worked for me for that day... And none of these studios compared to Katie nor any class just at coil. I've even taken a few yoga classes at pure yoga in New York City which were cool classes but again nothing compared to the way Katie and her instructors really tune in with each person in the class and explain how to breath, release and move your body in a way to make space for movement and release. And you can be beg to advance in these classes and there is always modification and learning something new. It's never the same. They really check in with the class on what everyone needs and focuses on the class needs. That is sooo cool!!
I highly recommend Coil YogaHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kimberly P.Fresno, CA277029Mar 2, 2015
I am a fan of a few of the yoga studios in the Fresno/Clovis area, however no other studio compares to Coil. You will find everything from beginner's classes to restorative and Vinyasa. Each instructor has their own personal flair and genuinely shows a passion for their teaching. You will not be disappointed when you come to this studio.
P.s. the studio is beautifully decorated. You can't help but feel immediately comfortable. Do note that this studio is located next to the train station so if you have a difficult time concentrating this may not be the studio for you. I would still check it out though. The ambience may be able to help you get past the occasional noise.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Erin P.Lafayette, CA24413May 9, 2009
I had the pleasure of practicing at Coil today. Lovely atmosphere, friendly & welcoming people, well-balanced class (I took the advanced class)
Fabulous! If I lived closer, I'd go every day.
When I arrived, a children's yoga class was getting out, which I think is fabulous and should happen more.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
