2 reviews for Cohen Dental
OMG, I wish I had read your review first, Natalie... Both my husband and I have had the same experience with this dentist!
This is going to be a long story. If you're in a rush, just know that this place is no good. Parking sucks, the dentist gives off a shady vibe, and the receptionist is an absolutely moron. There are a million other dentists out there. Go look for another one.
=====
Neither of us had been to a dentist in a number of years so we decided it was time - especially since we're paying for dental insurance! So anyway my husband went first. He was told he had a couple of cavities and also needed a deep cleaning. Nothing out of the ordinary. The first visit was the consultation. He is missing one tooth where he wears a partial denture during the day, so when Dr. Cohen saw it she tried to push him to get an implant. He explained that now is not the right time for financial reasons. She didn't drop it and brought it up again during the next visit. Anyway, he got his stuff done and since she seemed nice enough so he set up an appointment for me to go a week or so later.
I get a call the day before my appointment to confirm the wrong time. I am not very flexible as I have a newborn who needs to be fed every 3 hours. I end up taking an appointment which was not convenient, but whatever, looking back that's the least of my problems.
So I go in, fill out a bunch of papers and wait to be called in. First is x-rays, which I don't know how other people do it nowadays but it took forever and a million "open" "close" "open wide" and on and on...
Eventually I get my teeth checked out and get set up with the woman to talk to me about how much it's all going to cost, etc. I also have a missing tooth (I was born that way) so of course Dr. Cohen tried to get me to agree to an implant with the talk of bone loss, etc... I declined, of course. I was told that I had 2 cavities (my very firsts!) and that I would need my teeth deep cleaned. I get a quote and since they used a lot of dental terms I confirmed the total price asking "That covers EVERYTHING that will be done to me?" and the response was "yes, that's everything."
I go back in and get everything taken care of. She is nice enough, but I get a feeling that her mind is elsewhere. While I'm being treated there is a man in the next chair yelling in to the phone f*ck this, f*ck that, get an effin' this and that... just on and on and on... It's not that I mind people using that kind of a language, it's that it's in a small dental office and I don't care to listen to other idiots' phone calls. It was annoying but no one did anything about it.
If that wasn't irritating enough, as I approach the front desk after my treatment the receptionist gives me a total that is more than $200 over the quote I received just a couple of days earlier!!! With a straight face I'm asked how I'd like to pay. So I ask why so much more and she explained that it was for some medicine that was used, which was not included in the quote but apparently explained during the exam. There was a mention of the medication during the exam, so my understanding was that it would be included in the quote. That was not the case. The receptionist is absolutely clueless and useless so I agree for them to charge the initial consultation amount and to have someone call me about the difference the next day. I never hear back from them, and I receive a statement and the entire amount has been charged.
Between the dumb and lying receptionist and her inability to return our phone calls, it has taken well over 2 months to resolve this issue with the credit card company and the doctor's office. In the end Dr. Cohen agreed to take off the extra amount. The messed up thing is that Dr. Cohen hadn't heard a word about any of this until she received a letter from the credit company saying that we were contesting the charge!
So I guess maybe it's not Dr. Cohen, it's the useless receptionist she's hired, but either way, I'd stay away from this place... And to think there is a possibility that I never had any cavities but just a ploy to get my money!!!!!!!!!! Makes me SO mad!
Another money-suck operation run by a dentist with little bedside manner and no knack for explaining what's going on in your mouth. Dr. Cohen quickly determined I had three (but later on the phone her staff said it was five) cavities. I hadn't had cavities in years so this came as quite a disconcerting shock. Nonetheless, I was ready to move forward with my treatment with Dr. Cohen.
I knew (KNEW!) Dr. Cohen originally explained to me that I had three cavities when I saw her. When I called the office back a few days later to ask a question regarding my treatment, the woman helping me over the phone informed me that it was not three, but FIVE, cavities that needed filling. The price for the fillings she quoted me over the phone was the same price I had been given when I was in the office, so it appeared that Dr. Cohen or her dental assistant hadn't explained the details of my cavities to me (two small ones and three larger ones) during my examination. Lame. They also tried to sneak on (and I emphasize that they were indeed sneaky) a deep cleaning treatment in addition to my fillings when they showed me a list itemizing what my insurance would/would not pay for. Never once had the doctor or her assistant even explained what a "deep cleaning" treatment was before trying to tack it on to my treatment plan. When I placed a call requesting copies of my x-rays, my message was never returned. I'd avoid this dentist at all cost, if possible.
