Coffee house 5 on kiilingsworth came highly recommend by my coffee aficianado/fiend friend. And he was right!  The ambiance was great: hip but not too hipstery, cool tunes playing, good eclectic and warm furniture ... Oh, and really terrific coffee of course (Americano for me, latte for my wife).  Clientele were certainly interesting too - right across from PCC campus.

Definitely worth a return visit!

I had a wait between buses recently that allowed me the opportunity to look stunned that it was open after 6pm on a Sunday night, and a fabulous, dream-like latte that was just as good as I remembered.

I love when that happens.

I stopped by today for the first time since C5 stopped using Vita. No offence to Vita, but the current setup is far superior. Sharing Olympia, Ecco and Coava roasters is an all star line-up. Rotating french presses in the airpot, whatever custom cup you want from a pour-over bar, rotating blends and single origin espresso's from all three roasters, regular cuppings, solid baristas, etc.
I also really dig this space. Open but not sparse. Decorated but not cluttered.
Coffeehouse 5 has elevated itself from "it's not bad" to one of the more solid shops in the Portland line-up.

ok since i'm at pcc most of the time this is a perfect lil shop, with cutie pie barista's with mustaches and tight pants, the male baristas are hot too. anyhow that's not true, i like this place alright.  It's close to home and school and i'm at home there just throwing myself on the hard leather sofa's or the hard wooden chairs.  I listen to the Bob Dylan they play and people watch like mad, pcc cascade has many characters lingering about.

this place rules.

the coffee selection is amazing, and they have public cuppings on saturdays and sundays.

waaaay better (an nicer) than albina press.  they won me over from blend, which is a pretty tough place to beat.

They've got really hot baristas and a super-cool bar made out of strips of wood in alternating colors.

They're the only place I know of that has Nuvrei's excellent sesame-thyme croissants.

They always rosetta your lattes.

The espresso is consistent and tasty.

Very decent people-watching.

They're also the only place to get coffee in my neighborhood, so it's good that they rule. I wish they had later hours.

I've been going here since the day after they opened. They started off with a bang and have definitely had to take steps to remain consistent throughout. The morning crew is now spot on and coffee is consistent. The store itself is pretty cool and the location is hard to beat.
I like the fact that it is owned very locally by 2 brothers who have partnered to make this thing fly.
The only negative is that the acoustics are echoey (Is that a word?) so if the music is up it can be hard to have a conversation. Also depending on who opens the music can be a little much for me in the morning.

When we stumbled in on a Saturday morning, the White Album was playing on the stereo and the woman at the counter was grooving to it with pink sunglasses on. When my boyfriend asked for a macchiato, she asked "You mean the real kind, right? Not the lame Starbucks one?" She and the baristas looked like they were having tons of fun and it was contagious.

The place looks super cozy and kid-friendly (but not overly so--I saw coloring books and a few kids but we're not talking Sip & Kranz status here).

I'll be back to try their cold-brewed yerba mate. Oh, and we did enjoy the REAL macchiato ;)

I had the BEST cappuccino I've EVER had in my life.

The foam was perfect.

Of course I had to get some on my lip and pretend to be Miranda on Sex and the City.

It was so good that I had to get another one.

The barista/owner guy is also very easy on the eyes.  I'm glad I don't live in Portland.  I don't want to be the creepy girl who stalks the barista and drinks 10 cappuccinos a day.

I met a friend at Coffee House Five this afternoon--what a treat! My latte,  made with Cafe Vita espresso, was wonderful. The shop had a very pleasing atmosphere. It was comfortable and just darn easy-going. There are many seating options (single bar seats, expansive tables, couches) for any variety of purposes (lounging, work, meetings), free wifi, and an array of very tempting snacks (sandwiches, soup, baked goods).

I'll definitely go back, and it's not even in my neighborhood!

This place is pretty good, especially for lazing about a Saturday morning with a Laptop and Cappuccino. The serve the same pastries that every other coffee shop in this neighborhood serves, which is pretty lame, I'm not sure why they don't have a mini kitchen or something to make some of their own goods. That being said everything else about this joint works in its favor. Their are plenty of coffees and the servers are cool without trying to be hipsters, it's like they're cool but they don't know it, and I like that.

Good prices, and my Au Lait was A-OK today.

I have a Fri. night class at PCC across the street, and it's nice to have a diff place to go that isn't a SBucks.

Though I'm not 100% bonkers for the espresso at Coffeehouse Five (maybe more like 75% bonkers), the laid-back atmosphere and bounty of outlets more than make up the slack. Major points for style -- especially the gorgeous counter.

UPDATE!: A few months back, Five switched over to using Coava coffee, and it has turned this formerly four-star cafe into a new-and-improved five-starrer! Their mochas are especially good -- liquid velvet, I tell ya.

This place is the place for PCC Cascade students, myself included.  It's not that great.  The espresso is just ok depending on who makes it. Sometimes they only put one shot in my Americano, though, even though I order a double.  And this has happened many times, so I know they didn't just forget.  Maybe their espresso is laced with precious metals and they want to conserve it but I don't get what the problem is or why the barista has to actually roll her eyes at me when I ask for the double I already paid for.  It's so close to campus though, and that's why I keep going back.  I'll give it an extra star because it is cozy inside and they have couch seating and wifi.

The light in this place is key!  2 walls are completely windows.  The seating is good.  I only had tea (which was good!), so I cannot comment on the coffee quality.  It was all about atmosphere at this place.  Friendly baristas, lots of people watching, and a good music selection!

My friend was proud to tell me about this new cafe that opened by her house. I got excited when I saw La Marzocco gracing their counters, the spacious and light filled main area and the beautiful cup of macchiato that was handed to me by the barista. the espresso had only a tiny bit of bitter and a nice chocolatey hint (they roast their own beans, FYI). it was good that I gave in to the temptation of getting another doppio macchiato a mere 20 minutes later.

I recently had to spend a substantial amount of time on PCC's North Portland campus. This somewhat unpleasant experience was made much better by the presence of Coffee House Five just across the street. I whiled away the hours between testing sessions drinking delicious lattes and sparkling fruit beverages. One day I even had a gigantic bowl of black bean soup, accompanied by something called a "panwich". Coffee House Five is full of tasty drinks and treats, and I would give them another star if only they seemed to care about getting them into their customer's hands a little faster.

Didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised.  Very comfortable atmosphere and the coffee was very good.  The barista was quite talented decorating the foam.  A variety of seating arrangements will accommodate the singe laptop user to a large crowd.

I can't vouch for the espresso drinks, but the coffee was alright, if a little groundier than I'm used to.  The music (Green, Cash, et al) was a little unoriginal, but at least it wasn't smooth jazz.  Flies came in through the open doors and did circuits around my table.  Free wifi from http://personaltelco.net.  All-in-all an average place that I'll drop by again, though I still prefer Albina Press down the street.

ah, it's alright. the coffee is decently cheap at 1.40 with unlimited refills with a mug and i appreciate that. the baristas have always been mildly snotty to me and there's a surprising dearth of outlets, but, as a PCC student, i feel like my options are limited and, honestly, it's just fine for what i need it to be. really the only thing that could use significant improvement, over the weird smirks i get from two of the bald guys that work there, is the choice of music. jefferson airplane? really, guys?
