Oh man! I've been meaning to write this review for ages but I seem to always get sidetracked with all the nonsense that makes my life complete. OK, this is the BEST fucking coffee in the world! They also have the best scones in the world -- but you have to share them with another person or save the other half for later cause they're huge. The strawberry with white chocolate chips completely blows away all of the other ones...but try them too cause they're amazing. They also roast their own coffee and have become organic a couple of years ago, so I'm safe buying their beans. And I've seen their beans at Corti Brothers and the Coop. And the bald guy (we are in the same hair growth impaired brotherhood) that works in the mornings...he's way too funny. Keep up the good work guys!

I got an Italian French cup of coffee, and it was very good. The basket of day old goodies was appreciated by my wallet. I got a Psychic Reader newspaper and sat in the sun, reading and drinking my coffee and glad I was alive on such a shiny day with clouds.

I live close by and have tried Coffeeworks numerous times hoping that the experience would improve - no such luck. I really wanted to like the funky independently owned coffee house so close to where I live - but it's not in the cards. The coffee is consistently bitter and weak, and the mochas were just a disaster, I couldn't even finish mine. Both were overpriced. Maybe I'll try again someday, but then again, maybe not.
P.S. The baristas are really nice.

I absolutely love Coffee Works. They always have fast service, their coffee is what I consider the best in Sacramento, and I can't get enough of those breakfast burritos. The only problem I have is the parking issue, but that isn't really something they can help. Coffee Works is several notches above Starbucks, go there!

Great coffee.
I don't like the atmosphere, but that doesn't really matter.
Fantastic coffee! Good espresso
I love their iced lattes.

I've been here a handful of times and have always been very satisfied. I haven't had a chance to try any of their espresso drinks or lunch food- but I'm a fan of the drip coffee (Italian Roast is good), and the beans (I bought whole bean French Roast from Corti Bros) are especially robust and fresh tasting. I tried a chocolate chip scone for the first time- it's super buttery and HUGE so maybe not completely authentic, but really, really yummy- good thing I had someone to share with.
The atmosphere seems cool and conducive to studying; there's plenty of seating (mostly tables and chairs). Staff is very friendly as well. The parking lot in the back is quite tight, fyi
I've had the tea usually when I've gone here which are great, they usually give you two tea bags, that's probably standard though.
They play SomaFM shoutcast over the speakers, usually Music For Spies and P.I.s.

Love the coffee. Love the location. I had a hot coffee with a shot of espresso. It went well with my messy chocolate eclair that I got at Phillips. Liked the interior of the place. Bonus points for a clean bathroom.

Coffee works and Peet's are my two favorite places. tasty food, great beans and good coffee and specialty drinks. Love the building and the art.
Wonderful world class variety of roasted in house beans. Don't go to the same old chain... go here!

Support your local independent coffee shop and you will discover that you really like the coffee here. I always stop in around 5:30 a.m. when I am en route to the Bay Area. The baked goods were great a long time ago, then they were not very good at all, and then lately they are getting better. I have not tried sandwiches or pizza, which might mean that I am a coffee & pastry purist or something.

I usually buy my "Coffee Works" espresso beans from Corti Brothers, but today I was riding by and stopped in to get them fresh from the source.
These are the kinds of beans that make my hair stand on end and my eyes bug out. B says I get the crazy eyes andtalklikethis if I drink too much. $10.95 for a pound of their "jump start" espresso beans.
I didn't try any of the drinks in the store nor the tasty looking pastries and treats inside the case.
There was a weird dude behind me in line who, after the clerk asked me if I wanted a copy of my receipt, said, "I'll take 5 copies of her receipt". Weird.

One of the better places to get work or homework done. Just remember to bring your laptop, indulge in mochas, vegetable pizza, or a ham and cheese quiche for protein brain power.
This place has good coffee and it's locally owned and operated.
I went back twice this weekend for a coffee and breakfast burrito. The burrito was excellent.
My only complaint is that they don't have prices posted for any of the items in the baked goods section, so you won't know how much you have to pay until they ring you up. That's lame.

I think CoffeeWorks is the best coffee in town. They also sell coffee at the Sac Natural Foods Coop.

Go Shab!
Very good indie coffee house. They started only as a wholesale roaster and branched out. Shab also owns The Jumpstart Cafe on 11th.
Pros: Absolutely the best coffee. We drive by several Starbuck's to get here, and we live right by Infusion on K Street, to come here, instead. The coffee is always perfect. The bearded coffee guy is always funny and charming, recognizes us, and treats regulars well. I once sat there so long, my latte got cold. I went up to the counter and asked for it to be nuked a few minutes to heat it up. The girl behind the counter started to do so, but he grabbed the cup and said "Come on, she's a regular" and put it under the steamer nozzle, added fresh milk, and essentially made me a newly fresh latte -- and he was busy. I appreciated that.
So-So: The baked goods. They have returned to being edible. For awhile, they stopped baking in house and contracted out, and it took a serious dive. Now, the house made crumbly scones are back. I still think the muffins suck, but their excellent lattes and a plain scone are okay with me.
Cons: I don't order the burittos or sandwiches because they are pre-made and wrapped up, so you can't tell if they have been sitting there awhile, or what they look like. I need to see food before I order it. The house made pizza is a recent addition, but I'm not a fan of buying a slice of pizza for $3.50 and having it heated in a microwave. No, no, no. There are no prices posted on the bakery items, so you can't tell what they will cost without asking.
Still, the coffee is SO good that I forgive them for microwaved pizza and quiche.
The BF likes this place because there is always a floor show. I don't know what it is, but at least ONE person in this place will fall, have a problem, have a dog go ballistic, order something odd, WEAR something odd, or SAY something odd. Free entertainment.
One of those places that just exudes coolness and the overall feeling of Sacramento. This is a local coffee joint with excellent coffee, everchanging local art hanging on the wall and cool people working the counter. I am not a big fan of their baked goods...I find the scones too dry and the variety too slim. But oh the coffee.
Best coffee in Sacramento! Also has excellent bakery goods...
