Category: Coffee & Tea [Edit]
Neighborhood: Studio CItyAs a writer who needs both a good atmosphere to create and a place I can yak on my cellphone, the Coffee Fix fits the bill. The prices are the high end of middle of the road, but I always feel good about paying a little extra to help out a local-owned business instead of pouring money into Starbucks or Panera. There's a fast and password-free wireless internet connection as well. Chat and SMTP are locked out, however, but that's understandable as they probably want to keep it high-speed.
The barristas do a very good job and are very personable and welcoming. And do not mind at all of a paying customer camps out for a few hours.... so tip well for the privilege.
I like me my Coffee Fix. I'm kind of poor so I'm not getting my $4 soy chai's at the moment, but as soon as I come into a little money, I'll be going back.
I'm surprised that no one has written about Story Salon. Every Wednesday night at 8pm the longest running story telling group meets here. Bummer if you want to work on the internet in peace, awesome if you like funny, interesting people telling their stories. I am in the latter group and so greatly enjoy Wednesday nights. Check it out once, and if you really want to you can talk to Beverly (you'll quickly learn who she is) and get on the list to tell a story the next week.
Back to Coffee Fix, I recently plugged in my laptop, so the power is back! For sure tip the guys and gals as 90% of them are great. 10% have a little of the coffee house attitude, but they don't work that often.

I am clearly in the minority here, but I do not go to a coffee shop to laze about on the internet or "work on my screenplay". I go there to get out of the house, purchase a coffee drink and possibly a light snack, and people watch.
Coffee Fix is good people. It's a tough climate with the Coffee Beans and Starbucks trying to cock block the independents. I always come here when I get an oil change at Purrfect Auto. I make it a point to soak in the morning atmosphere and chat with the friendly, non-robotic staff, while enjoying my mocha made with love. Oftentimes, they will have indie music or poetry in the evenings, providing Studio City with some much-needed culture.
I once saw the multi-talented, visually pleasing Dan Futterman here. I did not stare. Much.
I love my Coffee Fix. I moved a year ago and it is no longer directly on my way to work, so I often get up a few minutes early just to go there. It beats the 3 Starbucks and 2 Coffee Beans I pass on the way.
The staff is fantastic and friendly and they usually know what I want, except when I change my mind on them. Really good pastries, Numi teas (which I love) and fantastic people watching. I've had more random celeb sightings here then anywhere else in LA. The regular customers are also usually very friendly, interesting people.
I like my tea, my chocolate croissant, a chat with Tom or Emily, my morning horoscope and whatever funny bits they've put up. There isn't a better way to start the morning.

Newly renovated with wood floors and fresh paint. Nice atmosphere. They have rotating art on display from local artists.
Good coffee drinks, but their drip coffee is too strong and bitter (which is the case with most coffee shops, Starbucks included, in my opinion). Also stay away from the smoothies because they are actually made from a powder and are gross.
They just shortened their hours again -- they close at 7pm now! How do we get our coffee fix at night???
Yeah, it's true -- they nixed the plug-ins, but hey, if your laptop battery is working or you're looking for a breakfast hang and a good cup of coffee, you can't go wrong with the Coffee Fix. I was told they decided to close off the outlets because, with the free WiFi, people were monopolizing tables and they couldn't get enough business. Personally, I'd pass on the WiFi for an outlet, but that's me. In any case, the food is good (scrambled eggs on a bagel with tomato -- yes, something you can make at home, but somehow it tastes better when someone else makes it for you), the service is relaxed and friendly, and on the weekends, that all sounds fine to me.

If you can't score an electrical outlet at Starbucks or Peet's, this is the place to come. I've never not been able to plug in, and of course the free wifi is fantastic (except for those times your whole reasoning for taking your laptop on a field trip is that your home internet is too distracting and you just need to get some work done, dammit!!).
The staff is usually very friendly, the other patrons are cool and chill, and the coffee and food is yummmmy. They also have photography and art on display, and unlike a lot of places that do this, usually the stuff is actually really good!
(If it's true you can no longer plug in your laptop here, I seriously won't ever go back. What the hell? Can anyone confirm this is still true?)

I used to go here all the time to study as they have free wireless. They have samiches too. I'm keeping the 4 stars short of 5 because,
The word of late is that they no longer let you plug in your laptop. What the?? Reason: too high of an electricity bill. I don't believe it!! What ever happened to the theory that if you let them plug in, they will come...and refill....and come again.
Someone needs to tell the Coffee Fix that their cup will still runneth over if they let us have electricity. Pooper scoopers. :(

If you're a socially-conscious coffee and tea sipper and you're looking for a quiet place to finish all those Yelp reviews you've been writing, Coffee Fix is the place to be.
Not only do you get free wifi, but you also get a fairly good selection of 100% organic coffees and fair trade teas. They also have those blooming teas that I see everywhere now. I had an iced tea and was pleased to find that they do not skimp on their iced tea. Some places brew their tea for much too long, but Coffee Fix doesn't. In fact, I think they make their iced tea by the pitcher so it's fresh. There's some food on the menu, including a peanut butter, honey and banana sandwich. Oh yes. It's glorious.
So: I like it, the atmosphere is very chill and relaxed, not a lot of bustle, just enough hustle.

Cool People who work here make good coffee drinks and serve fresh baked goods as you use the free wi-fi while eating homemade sandwiches at a clean table with almost comfortable chairs.
Done.
The Fix is nice, but there are better places now. They have really good fresh food, but no real ambience. The coffee is a tad bitter but the people are not. The staff is friendly and cool. Unfortunately folks...
try plugging in-- YOU CAN'T The internet is still free, but charge up before you come. It's a small place, so they don't want you to hang out and they've plugged up the outlets to give you a hint which must be
" Go to the library after you have your joe-- it's across the street."
Just an update.
A good neighborhood cafe, with more than coffee - crepes, sandwiches, fruit shakes, etc. Used to be open late . . but not anymore. A good "laptop lounge" kind of cafe, where you'll be in the company of lots of screenwriters. Sometimes there's music or comedy. I've been trapped there once, when I was just writing, and a bunch of comedians came in to try out their new material. Uhhhh...they also used to have a lot of British products on the shelves - like Spotted Dick. FREE WIFI!!

Excellent place to set up shop for a morning. The people working there are super nice and even helped me figure out my laptop set up for the free wifi. Ooh and do they know how to make a drink. I tried the vanilla blendy thingamahoo in the morning and then a freshly brewed iced tea with lemons in the afternoon and both were deelish. I didn't try any of the nibblies, but hey, there's always tonight, hee hee.
They also have poetry nights and live music here and the crowd (at least during the day) all smiled and were very friendly. Imagine that...and easy parking. And this is why I love the Valley!

Good coffee, comfortable to hang out in, and free consistent wifi.
Everybody is very friendly here!
Very much the anti-Starbucks, this place was ripped right out of London and dropped into Studio City. They have crepes, baked beans on toast, PG tips, you name it.
Good coffee; solid, homemade food; and no pretension to be found. The staff are good eggs, one and all. Only problem with the place is sometimes you'll find an office hobo sitting at a table, rolling calls like they own the place. They need the hammer dropped on 'em, and quick. I guess it's the price you pay for free WI-FI.

coffee fix has provided me wih the strangest celebrity sightings since moving to l.a. first, i saw mike mcshane, who i barely recognized as the therapist from "office space" and also the british "whose line is it anyway?" then a few months later i saw duff mckagan putting milk in his coffee.
so that's all irrelevant. the only reason why i don't go more often is the 9pm closing time and the live entertainment most evenings. i can work okay with the music or the standup but i don't like being called out by a not-funny comedian for trying to get some work done.
in terms of coffee-- they know what they're doing. the egg salad sandwich and quesadilla are really good for coffee house.
