If you want to read a more detailed review of the restaurant look at my previous review.

I'm updating my review because I always come here for UFC PPV events or major boxing events and it would only be fair to bump up a star for airing these events. Yes they have a cover charge for the UFC events ($5 per person) but it's only fair because I heard they charge a lot more for restaurants to show PPV events.

My last visit here was much better than past ones. Servers were on it, food came out pretty damn quick, and all the drinks coming from the bar came out faster than before. Maybe it's because they had more workers during UFC 104 but hey, I'm impressed.

They also slightly remodeled the pool table area: pool tables were moved to a previous smaller room (no more walls) and they put more tables where the pool tables use to be.

Good job Coconut Bay, keep up the good work!

3.5 is my updated rating considering the following incident.

At approximately, later in the evening after the posting of my mediocre review on Coconut Bay one of the owners named Daniel corrected me on said rumor:

"Just to straighten things out. "Coconut" is own by the husband, his brother and family..."

The beauty of this site is the idea of having business owners at least provide amicable feedback and rebuttal grounds for any unjust claims. So for those who feel they have been slighted as a small business on Yelp can point to this review any many others, with owners who actually can say a word or two without worrying of unfair feedback on such reviews or experiences.

Which is why until I try both restaurants, for future reference I'll take more responsibility instead of making "empty" generalizations given the repercussions of business owners and responsibility of readers to this page and any other Yelp related info posted on my behalf. The internet (and Yelp) it's serious (sometimes at least) folks, so watch what you say. You never know who will be reading next.

Don't go there if you are hungry. It'll take you 10 minutes waiting for the waiters to take the order and another 10-15 minutes to get the food. If you run out off the water takes you another 5-10 minutes for the water as well.... not good for your stomach. I'm not talking about weekend dinner... That was on weekday afternoon around 3 o'clock. That place was empty... Dunno what all the waiters was doing? And when you start feeling upset, you will be even more upset with all the waiters' faces... They act like they didn't get paid to do this job or something. That was so irritating. I'd rather go Banana Bay since it's not that far away from this place, the service is WAY better, waiters are more friendly and food taste better

As a Thai person I think their cooking are just OK. Not really an authentic Thai food. Don't order Thai traditional food like chicken stir fry with mint leave or tom yum kung... taste really bad :(  I'm not a good cook but I still think I can cook those dishes better. But some of them like fish dishes are fine

Came here on Saturday w. the bf because the last time I came with friends the drink specials were pretty good. So we arrived & were looking to fill our stomachs with all kind of thai goodness. The atmosphere is very relaxing with pool tables, a full stock bar, booths, and tables.

We ordered the pad thai & beef ball soup. We also ordered strawberry daquiris which were 2 for $7 & they give you the big sized cup which is a steal! & my bf ordered the $2.50 beer. Also if I was really in the mood to get hammered it would be affordable because a lot of the specialy drinks are 2 for $7 & other drink like mojito, patron, & grey goose..yes grey goose!! is only $5 what a deal....

Our food came out with a different server & to be honest the worst pad thai I have tasted in a good while. They only put 1 shrimp in it!! 1 shrimp what the hell why so stingy..I was not to pleased..my bf's soup was sub par..Overall was horrible & our server never checked on our table & when she came back was to collect the bill.

She gave us a big fit over trying to split our money on both of our cards & said minimum was $20 on each card..what ..so my bf just said where on your menu does that say that or why didn't you let us know before hand when we asked if they accepted cards in the beginning.  So they basically put a sign on the cashier that says that but who is really going to look at the cash register..of course you would when you are done eating & about to pay to realize you are screwed.

So the server finally just split our cards after a huge ordeal..& I'm sorry to say I didn't think she derserved a tip & my fbf gave her $1 which I think is worse...so if you decide you want to go to coconut bay solo & eat lunch/dinner beware of the $20 worth of food you will need to order unless you bring cash..come here for the drinks only & get super hammered without the drama

Just one thing, this place draws you in with their refillable Thai ice tea but you might as well be drinking water. As a Thai person, I tend to judge Thai restaurants on their Thai ice tea and quite frankly, theirs is fully disappointing. Another thing, their Pad Thai here is a bright orange. Every Thai person knows that if you want real Pad Thai, it won't be a bright orange color, just a hint!

Every other dish here is pretty mediocre on my tasty scale. I think it's more of a hangout for high school kids more than anything (just like Banana Bay).

This is what took over my favorite Sam Woo Seafood.  :(  (Aw, nostalgia)

I forgive you Coconut Bay.  Because of the cute beachy themed decor.

Dark.. really dark.  When I walked in I couldn't see in front of me.. I felt like I was walking into a beach haunted house.

Food - HTB had the Fried Chicken plate.. friend had some super tasty noodle thing.. I had King's Noodle.

Both guys had a great tasting dish.  Chicken was moist.. but crisp.. the noodles were jam packed full of flavor.  Spicy... YUM.

Mine.. tasted like what I'd imagine an old  hooker might smell...(After a humid rain storm... after rubbing cat food (canned) all over).   Like the ocean.. but not in a  good way.
the seafood was... soggy.. had no taste....and covered in an icky gravy goo.... :(

That ruined my dining exp at Coconut Bay.. however I would return for the other dishes, decor.

They really did a number on the place.. worth the drive just to see.

First it was The Boat, then Banana Bay, now Coconut Bay. I've been to all 3 now. The "B" rating still freaks me out, but I went in anyway. This place is the nicest of the 3 - has a really cool bar with plenty of TVs and a couple of pool tables. It was absolutely dead. They have Widmer on tap - I ordered one. I asked the bartender what appetizer to get - he said the chicken wings. The wings had this sweet and semi-spicy sauce on them - good, but I would ask for the sauce on the side next time - too sticky. The wings were deep fried in some sort of tempura batter - they were better than most wings I've had in the past. I got the bill - $7 each for a beer??? Ridiculous. Granted, the beer was a little bigger than usual, but this is not Flemings, Mastros, or Ruth's Chris.

The prices here are higher than Banana Bay - just be ready if you decide to eat here.

Good Monday Night Football drink and appetizer specials offered here.. The beers are really cheap and the appetizer food is a really good deal considering their chicken satay and thai chicken lettuce wraps are pretty tasty.. I didn't like the fish cakes at all though and their fried calamari was unusually disappointing since they've made it better before.. I'd come here again during these specials though because the prices are hard to beat but this experience was only ok since 2/4 dishes were good..

So I heard about the story between Banana Bay and Coconut Bay, so I figured I had to try it out sometime. The food tastes about the same, although some would maybe argue that Coconut Bay is a little bit more doneup inside.

I had one of their rice dishes, and it was just plain average. You have your seasoned fried rice and they put whatever meat you want on top and serve as is. The food goes down pretty easy, and I guess you can't really ask for more out of Thai fried rice.

Bottom line: Just average.

OK, 2nd time was pretty darn good.  Lunch specials are a great value.  They come with bottomless Thai iced tea or Thai iced coffee, soup or salad, entree, and even ice cream to top your lunch hour off.

I got the Hainan chicken and it was so tasty.  Muted flavor with a bit of saltiness and all that chicken goodness with the skin on top.  Very good.  I tasted the Crying Tiger and it was flavorful and the beef was nicely done.

Great lunch place!

This review is for our experience with a party using the banquet room in the back. My sister decides that of all places, she wants her bridal shower at a Thai restaurant that MUST have a private room. After searching high and low, Coconut Bay came to the rescue!

There are very few places where you can get a party buffet with like 5 different unlimited dishes, drinks and dessert for $20-25 a person! They were very flexible with the dish choices, letting us mix and match off the buffet menu and regular menu. The buffet choices are what we would have ordered anyway (beef salad, pad thair, mint chicken, bbq ribs, mMMmmm). The food was very good, flavorful, authentic, served on time, and everyone thought it was a hit. We were almost all Asian, so are picky with our Asian food and know what we are talking about!

The banquet room is very private, despite the clear doors, etc., and there's even a little stage to do speeches, play games, etc. It is also HUGE--we had 35 people and could have fit another 15-20?

As for the service experience, we had about 35 people, and after some negotiating, they dropped the "room rental" fee, even though fee waive only comes with 40+ people. Yay! They set up audio and visual for us free. They set up a cake and gift table for us for free. The only extra charge was table linens, $50. They let us come in 1/2 hour before the restaurant even officially opened to decorate and set up.

The reason for the minus star is: 1) When I showed up, the room was NOT set up without linens and our extra tables as requested--but they quickly ran around getting it ready after I told them 2) We thought waiters would be strictly assigned to our large party with more attention--but you just get regular waiters that are also serving outside guest. I had to run out a few times to flag them down--but they came quickly! 3) The guy who we arranged everything with us initially, was on vacation the day of our party! No one told us, and he knew all the details, so that was kind of weird.

Otherwise, thanks for a great party (sorry for the mess) and we will be back soon Coconut Bay!

Me and come friends came here since our first choice was closed and our friend recommended it to us. My first impressions were good. It looked nice in the inside and smelled good. Also there's a fish tank in the front with like 3 fish so that's good for the kids to stare at for a couple of minutes. We got there around 6pm so it was a little busy and there was a 5-10 minute wait. Well the wait was actually like 20 minutes, but who's counting.

So we finally got to our table and it was nice. There was a TV above me so i got to watch Iron Chef America and the secret ingredient was artichoke. So all of us order water, some Thai teas and one ice tea. Since there were 5 of us we got 5 dishes. Tiger beef, pat tai, these chicken on a stick with peanut butter sauce, a salad, and a beef chow mien dish. The chicken on a stick was pretty good and that was my favorite out of the 5 dishes.

The service was good and fast for how busy it was. The server was very nice and we didn't have any complaints at all.

The chicken wings as a appetizer is a must for me.

Fuck trying new stuff. The Exotic Fried Rice sucks balls. Nothing special to me but a bunch of chilis thrown in with some fried rice and beef. Parts of the rice felt hard. Should have stuck with the bbq chicken fried rice.

The fried tofu was too bland for me with or without the plum sauce.

$14 for a pitcher of New Castle is a bit on the expensive side considering its happy hour. I do enjoy the $2.50 beers though.

Service was excellent.

Next time, Ill just have to stick to the faves.

I was expecting much from this place based on word of mouth from family; it is unfortunate that my attempt to experience it yesterday was not pleasant at all.

It was my nephew's birthday party and they phoned in reservation days before for 35 people. When we arrived at the place we were told that someone had called to cancel the reservation. That was a stinking BS because no one called to cancel. We definitely smelled rat because the place was overflowing with people waiting to be seated... the Lakers were playing Orlando Game 5 on the widescreen TVs...

Hello management, clean up your act. We decided to buy take out food from another place and continue the party at my nephew's house,

Because Coconut Bay is so similar (in name, in cuisine, in atmosphere) to Banana Bay, it's only fitting that I write a review comparing the two.

1. CB serves pretty much the same menu as BB, and the food tastes just as good.
2. Service is slightly better (meaning faster) at CB. Also, they take orders on high-tech, iPhone-type of things! That makes no difference whatsoever, but I just thought it was cool.
3. CB has florescent lighting that makes you (or maybe just me) look gross. BB wins for lighting.

And finally...
4. CB serves alcohol; BB does not.

I think we know who the winner is.

Owner sold Banana Bay and opened Coconut Bay a few miles away, so the rumor goes. Not cool, but the food is great. A notch up from the Banana.

Chaing beers are tasty and their prices are very reasonable. The bottomless Thai teas and coffees will put you in a diabetic coma.

Whenever it's my turn to take the extended family out to dinner, we come here. I can get away with a dinner for 8 for around $120. That's with my beers and Thai wings.

Go on a Monday night during football season and enjoy some great appetizer and beer specials.

First thing I see is the glass wall at the back that I always mistake for a mirror. It's so confusing!!!

This place has yummy food and the workers are nice and smiley. Not the cleanest place, from what I recall. I had pad see ew (?) which had a nice spicyness and the fried rice was good, too. They all come in big portions so don't worry about not having enough to eat~ Don't know exactly how long I had to wait for the food to come out because my boyfriend was doing magic tricks but if it helps, he finished four tricks.
I remember biting into a pepper or jalapeno or something and my tongue bursted into flames (hypothetically) so I reached for the thai tea (not mines) and was pleasantly surprised! Was never too fond of thai tea, but it's actually very good here.

*sigh* Oh so many memories at Coconut Bay...

I love, love, love the food here.  I've never gone wrong with any dish I've ordered here (pineapple fried rice, pad thai, hainan chicken, pad see ew, oh I could go on and on..,) AND I love that you get free refills on Thai Iced Tea. (Apparently The Boat, which is down the street in Diamond Plaza does not give free refills on drinks anyway..) OH! And when it's in season, YOU MUST ORDER MANGO STICKY RICE FOR DESSERT. The last time I had it here, they gave a generous portion - enough to fill two. You get a ripe mango with sweet sticky rice that's drizzled in.. I want to say it's made of coconut milk and condensed milk, but I could be wrong. Either way, mango sticky rice = DELICIOUS!!!

ANYWAYS, I would have given 4 stars for the food alone. However, the service has gone downhill since I was introduced to this place 2 years ago. Maybe it's because it can get busy and is short-staffed, but I still appreciate it when servers and even bussers attend to their customers, ask how they're doing, etc.. I don't get too much of that warmness here anymore.

Place is okay for Thai food....service is always slow as hell...don't get it..waiters have these cool Palm Pilots for which they input your order in and appear to be all hi tech, yet the food takes forever to come out and they just aren't attentive at all.  Tried several different types of dishes here, all pretty standard.  Ambience is pretty modern.  Decent place to satisfy the urge but simply average tasting Thai food.

I came here for lunch with the bf. We both got the lunch special which is any of the entrees under the lunch menu + soup or salad + drink + dessert of the day for about $9. Pretty good deal!

Although the waiter said there was no soup available and only salad, out came two mushroom soups... hmmmm okayy.. it tasted alriiight~ pretty sour and kinda limey but I think that's what they were going for. As for the entrees, I got the pad thai and he got the continental fried rice. They were both pretty yummy. Nothing too special but also nothing to complain about! Definitely beats the usual Thai delivery food I was so used to eating during college! The dessert of the day was simply vanilla soft serve, nothing special. I also tried a sip of my bf's thai iced tea and it was really gooood! And it's free refills too! I wished I had ordered that instead. MMM I'm craving some right now! :P

I am editing my previous post.  I had an unpleasant experience at Coconut Bay when I had finally gone.  The service was a bit slow (despite no major crowd) and the order got messed up multiple times and that too...NO COMPENSATION.

I wasn't pleased and wrote a detailed review and gave it 2 stars which i felt was more than generous.  Those 2 mainly went for the ambience among other minor things.

The owner read my review on Yelp! and felt bad for my experience and truly was the epitome of customer service.  He contacted me and offered me a gift card to try his place again.

This alone definitely upped my star rating.....I have still yet to go again (hopefully this week) and will write a new review then....but for now...I feel as though to at least give it another star and plan on writing again next week.

I've eaten here several times now and I must say, everything that I have so far was pretty good. The Lemon Salmon is my favorite thing ever. You could tell that the piece of salmon was fresh and it was prepared with so much flavor. Another item that I like is the Tom Yum Kai Noodle Soup. Great to have on a chilly day or if you aren't feeling that well. I need to see if they can make it without the lemongrass tho. Pork Jerky is off the hook esp with the sweet and spicy sauce that comes with.

They have a really good happy hour esp during Laker games where they have $2.50 Blue Moons and certain 2-4-1 drinks. Sitting at the bar is a little uncomfortable tho since the bar stools are not moveable and were made for someone who is, let's say, 4"11.  I kept banging my knees into the bar which really pissed me off. The girl bartenders are cool but there is this one guy Mike that needs an attutide adjustment. Remember you're working for tips bro.

LUNCH SPECIALS! great price and great selection. Every lunch special meal is under $10 and includes soup (tom yum...its yummy) or salad,  soft serve for desert, and a drink (soda, thai tea/coffee with free refills) Food is always more than enough and taste even better as leftovers. They always keep the thai iced tea flowing

Favorite dishes: Continental Fried Rice (comes with fried chicken, a fried egg, and thai bbq chicken sauce) AND the Pad See Ew (love how the chinese broccoli is cut super thin and its easy to eat)

coconut bay WINS OVER banana bay

Same owners. Anyone ever hear that Coconut Bay was for the man's wife (coconuts) and that Banana Bay.. "banana"..? Know what i'm trying to get at? haha!

Anyways, I think the food is better at coconut bay than banana bay. It tastes better and I love the Flying Tiger dish. It's just straight up marinated beef, cooked to perfection, and a hot, light dipping sauce. They have the same version at Banana Bay but it's a green sauce there compared to a red sauce at Coconut Bay. YUM.

Delicious Thai food.
They messed up my cousin's order and replaced it right away no questions ask.
Good service and price is decent.
Price is in the range of $10-15 per person.

Food is exactly like banana bay. price wise.. its not too bad. They have better service than banana bay and it seems a lot cleaner probably cus its new. but why give it 3 stars? well one day i was with my friends and we all got our food at different times (there was only 4 of us) and i happened to get mine last. I got bbq chicken fried rice. it was delicious ESPECIALLY the band-aid i found in there. MMMMMmmm. I told the manager and all he said was sorry and walked away. I got pissed off cus he didnt really care, and then eventually after arguing with him for 5 minutes he takes the dish off the bill. WTF? he was gonna make me pay for that Sh!t. but the food is still good and THAI ICED TEAS HAS FREE REFILLS! soo thats why i gave em 3 stars. BAND-AIDS!

I see why people prefer Banana over Coconut, but it's basically the same as any other non authentic thai place. Coconut is easier to get seating at, I think.

Service is the worst of the worst. Dear god it's awful. I mean, seriously, make sure you get all your drink orders and food ordered the first time around, cuz you ain't gonna see your server again the rest of the night.

I've been a few times during happy hour, but my people usually want to eat there, so no happy hour prices for me. :(  Oh yeah, the pineapple fried rice is terrible, and the Pad See Ew is one of the few items that are tolerable.

This place is so much better than Banana Bay. Its bigger and the food tastes better. Everything I've ordered here has been pretty good so far. The only complaint I have is the wait for your check can be quite long because the waiters don't come by the table often enough to check up on you. Also, if you go during the weekday its usually pretty dead but it gets more crowded on the weekends. I got the tom yum noodle today and it was really good! A bit spicy but if you like spicy stuff you'll love this!

A partial reason of why my rating is so low is that this THAI restaurant doesn't serve Singha a THAI beer. They do serve Chang (elephant piss), which the waiter kept insisting that I get because it was a good deal, but what I guess he doesn't know is that it taste like your other shitty domestic beers (bud light, miller...etc.).

Another reason why I am giving this place a low score is because the food was terrible! Whose the damn cook?!? This food was edible at best and the service was ok. Also half of the lights were off in the restaurant because the waiter told me they were trying to save money, which is pretty sad because I can barely see my food when I was eating.

GET A NEW COOK AND GET SOME DAMN SINGHA!!!

Coconut Bay. This place is your typical Not-completely-authentic-but-awesome-enough-to-sat isfy-you type of place you can get your fix of some tasty Thai food and some Chang beer. The service is a lot better than Banana Bay (so far), but can use some improvement.... the last time I went my waiter forgot to put in an order which left a fourth buddy hanging without his food for a while. Not cool.

In my humble opinion, this place has a very nice beach-like decor that will make you feel right at home, if Pattaya or Phukket is what you call home.

They have pool tables, huge party tables in the back, friendly staff, and a nice bar managed by two lovely ladies... at least when I went.

I don't usually eat Thai food, but if I do, it has to be from Coconut Bay. I really like this place A LOT. The atmosphere is nice & is very spacious. I've been here about 3 times and every time the food gets better and better. But the service is only decent. It takes a while for the waiters to come around your table.. but overall, this place is pretty GOOD!

Service can be a little whack sometimes but the food is awesome. Come for Laker games. 'Nuff said.

Coconut Bay is a decent priced, clean, and friendly Thai restaurant. They have a big floor and comfortable seating. Food is marginally above average. We ordered Cha Po (roasted pork and duck with BBQ pork over rice!) and BBQ chicken fried rice. I didn't try the cha po (my friend loved it though), but the bbq chicken fried rice wasn't all that great. Rice could've been better but the chicken did taste good. We also got their chicken satay, like the rating, it was "a-ok". You can find it anywhere in any sit down Thai restaurant.

I've never sat at the bar or had drinks here before but you can't miss the bar. They place an emphasis on the sports bar decor. They have flat screens in there so you can watch a game with friends and down beers.

This rating should really be a 3.5/5. Boo to no half points on yelp!

Just a forewarning to all my regular readers... my reviews are now going to be a lot shorter because of my busier schedule and backlog of reviews.

This place is just like Banana Bay but cleaner and better atmosphere, IMO. Food is adequate quality but good for its price.

The curry was surprisingly good to me but the meat itself was not. The rice was not great but that's not surprising given the prices. Don't be an idiot like me and drive all the way here from LA. Decent, but not worth the drive.

Oh, and parking is insane. I've never seen more poorly designed street intersections to enter the plaza. That combined with Asian drivers makes getting into this plaza take 20+ min. if you don't cut someone off. Yes, I'm allowed to say Asian drivers are horrible because I'm Asian.
