chicken cutlet with cheese and a side of gyoza please! Cant get enough of it...worth every hour and minute of your "kanak attack" thereafter ;P

Ordered the curry udon recently, pretty good pretty good! Overall if they had curry house miles i could accumulate i would probably have soooo many free lunches and dinners!

Oh my god, this curry place can seriously compare to the ones we tried in Japan - yes it's that good!  This one is located near the H1 freeway on the far end of Waikiki by a 7-eleven.

We ordered:
Pork cutlet and kimchee curry ($7.20) - the pork was perfectly breaded and crisp.  The kimchee really enhances the flavor adding a wonderful crunch and spice to this traditional dish.  We also added corn and fried shrimp to it.  They have a variety of toppings so you can load up on all the toppings you want.

Stewed chicken and spinach udon ($8.35) - i was craving curry with udon and woow, call me impressed!  We also added kimchee to this dish and the flavors melded together wonderfully (I was worried it'd taste weird with the spinach).  The udon was nice and chewy and the portion was HUGE.  You can easily share every dish here between 2 people.

This place beats Curry House and Hurry Curry in California... Coco Ichiban - I think it's about time you made your way to the mainland!

If you are a curry lover, I would definitely recommend visiting one of the Coco curry locations - just not this one.

The food was awesome and I love their large selection of sides you could add to your dish.  However, their spicy curry was not spicy at all.  I was a bit disappointed.  Also, the service was sub par.  The workers are basically bussers so once you have your meal, you'll need to flag them down if you need something else.  Another negative is they only take cash so make sure you have enough in your wallet or you'll be searching for an ATM.

Another reason I do not like this location is the parking is horrible.  If you are going during peak time during dinner or lunch, expect to fight for a parking spot.  It took us always before we found one.

This time I tried their fried mahi mahi curry with cheese and it was good stuff. The fish quality was poor, but a spoonful of their delicious curry and fukujinzuke made it addictive. I ate it all up. It was a quick, cheap dinner for under $10.

Oh Curry House....You offer good food, good prices, and you are open late. What is not to like about that! You showcase what is good about local food (even though you are necessarily not local) and what makes local people come back for!

If you have a craving for curry this is THE PLACE to go. They offer a fantastic selection and at great prices. If you want vegetarian options, they got vegetarian options. If you want beef shabu shabu with chicken katsu! They got that too! What is not to like?

Service is quick and efficient, so this isn't the place to go to dilly dally. Nor is it a place to go if you want to chit chat for a long time. Still yet a great place for food!

Oh note...bring cash since they are CASH ONLY!

I have no idea what the hype is over Coco Ichiban Curry House. I really had a craving for something different and since I love love love our Curry House in So Cal, I thought trying a different kind of curry would be fun.

This place was no fun. We had to wait a little bit, no big deal, and when we were seated, placed before us was a menu of many unappetizing pictures of curry with cutlet and with a random assortment of toppings. Like cheese. Weird. Anyway, the pictures of the curry were not really appetizing, and when the curry actually came out, I realized it was just a realistic depiction of the baby-poo colored curry. Now granted, I wasn't that hungry, so I just got their salad, which had like 6 kernels of corn on it, but I did try DP's chicken cutlet curry and the cutlet was good, but the curry sauce was whatever. It was about $7.

Glad I tried it out, but will probably never go back when I have the real Curry House here in the South Bay. I know so many other people on Yelp here like it (which is what really pushed me to go after having seen it in the McCully Center so many times), but I just can't agree with my fellow Yelpers on this one. Sorry!

This is the best location to try curry house, as it has udon! I think only one other does, but the udon is just heavenly and I pile on the goodies, like katsu, so crispy.  I always plan to stop here whenever i'm in town for some surfing! Fills you up fast! And the parking lot is sweet too.

O yea, if you really get cravings you can buy their curry powder at the counter and just add it to other curry's back home and it will bring you back to hawaii!  (not as good, but it gives you that sweet burn!)

So randomly I'm craving some Good Eats, and no I'm talking about the TV show with Alton Brown, but sitting over my work load and typing over some reports I get a mega munchie mumble. So I ask my friend on Yahoo Messenger, "yo buddy, what is good for me to eat in this town right about now?" After a short list of less reputable locales to satisfy my taste temptations, we come across a crazy collocated Curry county. From the street it is identifiable by its simple lighted locator of "Curry House" the name states its business and very clearly i might add. To make a long story short I sit and quickly order the Fried Chicken Gyoza with mild curry and await my magnificent meal. I was impressed by the size of food you get. I enjoyed the food, every last bite and thought, "wow this would be a great place to come back to." You may have read all this, thus far and are thinking to yourself, what the hell is this guys' problem. he liked the food, and it was a lot, why only 2 stars?
Truthfully, I can't respect a place that is CASH ONLY. I mean its almost an insult to have me walk over to the 7-11 and use an ATM to pay for your food. It WAS good, at 8$, but now I have to factor in a $2 ATM fee plus what ever my Bank wants to charge for using the ATM... at the $12+ dollars I now ended up paying for this, it drops my rating down to 2 stars... and I am being nice. The food was great, but CHANCES are I am not returning to this place or any Curry House for that matter. Its nearly 2010, you can't be bothering me to carry CASH these days. For that matter I wont bother you any more for embarrassing me.

What can I say, I LOVE CURRY HOUSE haha. For me, I always get the chicken cutlet with cheese spicy. For me, I like the McCully location the most. I've tried the curry at Ala Moana, McCully, and University Square and I feel that the McCully one makes the best one. Ala Moana would be second.

It can get crowded at night, especially on weekends and if you want a table. Lunch time is way less crowded and there's this one waitress I really like that works in the daytime. Pricing is good and you get a pretty good amount, so come when you're pretty hungry~

Have you ever questioned yourself that there might be a slight chance that you're really a robot after all?
Well, you might have if you've frequented Coco Ichiban Curry House  or any of its clones on this island more than once a week or even more than once in this lifetime.
What would compel a person to give this place four stars (or any stars at all) when this place only serves bland mediocre  food? Perhaps this person who does such a mechanical act is a robot? I don't know, maybe...you decide.

(But of course, robots would enjoy this joint and give them four stars they don't have taste buds and its a cool and bright place to hang out with all their other hipster friends.  Ah..duh!)

Cheap and fast. Food is simple and good. Yeah it's pretty hard to mess up plain curry but it's still good nonetheless lol. They serve Japanese style curry BTW. I wish they would open sum locations in OH!!!

Service is whatever but you can't expect too much at this price point.

It would seem fitting that my first review be on my favorite restaurant. I have been a happy, and full, customer of CoCo Ichiban Curry House for the last 7 years. I think we can all agree that things have changed (at least from an economical standpoint) from 2002-2009, and as a result, I have witnessed Curry House's portions dwindle and their prices increase.

With all the background story out of the way, my curry of choice is the Chicken Cutlet with cheese. There has not been a single time in the last 7 years where I was not 100% satisfied upon eating this dish.

The staff at the McCully location is quick, and you will get your order in a timely fashion. There has NEVER been, nor have I noticed, a time where I had to send my curry back. However, the McCully parking lot does get crowded during lunch hour, and you may find yourself stalking for a parking stall.

For some reason this location is the most similar to the Coco Ichiban Curry House that we visited in Japan. I LOVE the chicken cutlet katsu spicy curry with CHEESE. Probably not the healthiest but I always get that when we go there. My fiance usually get the spinach and shabu shabu beef udon. We love eating here and sometimes crave their japanese curry especially since it is the same brand that they use in Japan. Don't forget that they only take cash and there are many ATMs in the area. This is one of my favorite places to eat!

Visit: 6/24/09 - Lunch.  Had the fried chicken curry.

Fried Chicken Curry - The chicken was good, but the curry was too oily.  Did they change the taste of their curry?  Normally I love their curry, but it just tasted oily.  No one likes oily curry.

Service was okay.

Price was kinda expensive.  $8.50 for a plate of curry with 4 small pieces of chicken.

I won't come back.  Too bad, this was one of my favorite places.

I can't figure what the hype is all about.  True, you could get all kinds of curry there.  But it was just different meats w/ the same curry poured on top.  We actually thought it tasted a bit like Alpo dog food.

I can't remember what I ordered, but it was recommended by the waitress.  I also got a side of mapo tofu.  Everything turned into a mushy mess.

This was the first "curry house" I ever went to.  I know for sure I won't be returning to this location.  I'll give curry houses another try, but really, it wasn't all that great.

I have to come to coco ichiban curry house whenever I'm in honolulu.  It's DELICIOUS!  I've had japanese curry at many japanese restaurants, but it's never like how coco makes it.  My husband ordered the kimchi tonkatsu with rice and I ordered the chicken katsu with udon and I added cheese on top.  Both was delicious.  Never had kimchi with curry before and it was really good.  Remember to add those preserved turnips in with the curry....it's good and it's FREE!

Never really thought jap curry was good, that is until I tried this place!

First one i tried was the tonkatsu kimchi curry. But its safe to assume that everything is going to taste fairly similar since its the same curry in every dish. Well either way, the dish was delicious! Rice was perfectly cooked, cutlet freshly fried, and curry nicely flavored. The next day, I came back and had the shabu shabu beef with spinich. Like i said, it tasted great just with different meats. So what if its the same curry on ever dish, the point of the restaurant is CURRY and it achieves just that.

The kicker is the price, $7-8 for a dish, in Hawaii is a freaken deal. Fast service and clean environment makes this place a must try.

The staff at the McCully Curry house have been fast and friendly most times I've come, but occasionally they're a bit frazzled since they're always pretty busy.

I like the curry here a lot, my favorites being the chicken cutlet curry and shabu shabu beef - always spicy.

One issue with this location is parking, but the secret is to not park on top - park in the underground lot where there's always space and it's much faster to leave as well.

Another one of the places I must visit whenever I am home.  My favorite is chicken katsu with vegetable croquette on the side - spicy.

Build your own curry in the sense that you start with rice and curry and add different items.  I haven't had a combination that I didn't like and even when they got my order wrong, it was still great.  Then again, the only thing I just would not add to my curry is natto.

Although I usually take out, when dining in, they put a pitcher of water at each table just in case you order too spicy, so there is never a wait for more.  They also have comment cards, so I like to write bizarre comments and suggestions while I am waiting for my food.  The take out containers are well constructed and usually transport without incident.

** I was recently saddened to learn that they have done away with the Curry Challenge.  At first, I felt that the last 8 years I spent training were wasted, but like any athlete, I realize that I am a winner just for keeping up with the grueling regimen.

In the past two weeks I think I went to Curry House like three times.

It's a chill spot, you fill up you own cup with water (if you have water left in the water pitcher) and it got renovated so that it looks more sleek.

what sucks about this place is the parking... McCully shopping center can get pretty packed... I guess it's a hot spot for asian people because they like to chill out at Coffee or Tea. hmmmm i think I'll hit that place up sometime soon.

Anyways I either get the chicken katsu curry having it spicy isn't spicy at all. I like to put in a little of that crunchy thingy into my curry just to add a little crunch here and there and yeah if i'm not getting the chicken katsu curry I get the cat food (stewed chicken) with sausage.

oh yeah i like their squid salad i usually get it with the sesame salad dressing (i recommend you buy a bottle of it) BUT i tried the curry dressing and I was kinda shocked. I thought it'd be gross but it was actually a very good vinaigrette. Props to that one... it made my tummy happy.

Oh yeah i didn't drink Calpico for awhile and having that was another highlight of the day. I'm a fan of Curry house =0)

Although the parking here sucks during peak hours and that the spaces are super tight to begin with, its always a delight once you have your curry.  You can't really go wrong with the curry since its the same sauce for everything so just pick your main topping and enjoy.  I definitely love the pickled tsukemono in the little box and I just load my curry with most of that and add a generous sprinkling of the red pepper and its perfect!

Inexpensive tasty curry meals with tons of variations to choose from
friendly staff, quick service
great place to go when you are hungry and really need to eat right away,  but didn't want fast foods.
This is your place.
Free parking right in front of the restaurant too.

I eat here every once-in-a-while. It's really a good place to eat if you like curry. You choose your meats and/or vegetables. You choose how much rice you want (300g is standard, but I like 400g usually). I always get Fried Chicken, stewed shrimp and cheese @ 400g of rice. I like the kalbi and fried chicken combo, and gyoza isn't bad either.

I hadn't eaten Curry House in YEARS, prior to tonight, due to lovely gastric problems in my sensitive belly. But I decided to brave it out because I wanted to remember why I used to like it so much back in the day.

My friend ordered the fried chicken and gyoza curry, and I made my own crazy combo: pork cutlet, corn cream croquette, shabu shabu beef, and cheese. Added on a "green salad", which was nothing but iceberg lettuce and a scattering of canned corn, but I needed some kind of vegetable! The sesame dressing was goooooood though. Mmm, the cutlet was crispy and hot, burnt and scraped off a bit of the roof of my mouth, but it was worth it! Croquette was so ooey gooey good! And the shabu shabu beef had been cooked a bit in the curry sauce, and was tender. I stuffed my face, and I tapped out, but to my dismay, it didn't even look like I made a dent in my food! Generous helpings? YES! I'll be eating curry leftovers for a couple days.

my boyfriend and I loooooooove curry house! we go here almost every weekend. ah..so good!

along with other good restaurants at mccully shopping center, theyre open until 11 pm on most days. perfect after a night out in waikiki or ala moana

we always order chicken cutlet with cheese, mixed vegetables in the curry, upgrade to 400 grams of rice, and get a side order of corn croquette. and an extra plate. if you wanna save money and if youre not super duper hungry, its a good idea to just upgrade the rice size and order a side order of something else. it seems they match up the curry portions with the rice portions...i could be wrong. we usually spend about twelve dollars when we order our food this way

the chicken cutlet is delicious and although im not a big fan of squash, theyre mixed vegetable curry is good and it includes corn, peas, carrots and lotus root. berry berry delicious. the corn croquette is nice and creamy and there are bits of corn in there duh haha

the service is good too. the waitresses are friendly, patient, and helpful

The squid ink curry got me in through the door. I can gt curry at any god damn Japanese place in So Cal. but not squid ink curry.

I'm still shocked by the quality of the rice. Im white.  i dont know quality rice. This was different rice. Wtf are you guys doing to me. This is ridiculous.

Points off for green tea.
I want hot green tea.
Hot. You don't have any. Why. You get a big cauldron. F-ing get some hot green tea. I was on hardcore hot greentea withdrawl. Out of the bottle isn't the same. NO IT ISN'T.

The rice.
Seriously its fresh. I couldn't pay a sweatshop worked enough to make it this fresh.

Good curry, good atmosphere, good experience. get some f-ing HOT green tea please.

This is the best Japanese style curry house Kevin & I have ever tried. We stopped in here last time (by chance) on the way from the airport to the hotel. It's a small place that accepts only cash but for $20 we had two plates of curry and two drinks! We ordered the udon curry which was amazing and Chicken Katsu Curry which was sooo good. The chicken was nice and crispy, not too oily. The curry (you can order it mild or spicy) was perfect! You might see us there again this time!

So bummed that California does not have coco ichiban. I am so in love with their curry cos it has a the right amount of spicy and consistency. Glad to see that they have an expanded udon menu now but that day we opted to share the 400g CHicken Katsu with the shabushabu beef and it was soooo good. Coco Ichiban will always have a special place in my heart! I love it!

This place is awesome.  The menu is simple:  pick your curry, spice level, add-on items and amount of rice (any place that asks how much rice you want is a plus in my book).

I ordered the shabu shabu beef with gyoza and extra rice.  I never knew putting gyoza into my curry would be so delicious.  It was actually a nice contrast to the soft meat, curry and rice combination.

The food was nice and hearty.  Definitely a place to try if you like good, fast, cheap food of if you love curry (which I do!).  I can't wait to try this place again!

Best curry I've ever had.  If I have to choose between Thai, Indian, and Japanese curry, I would shoot myself.  But if I have to rank them, I would put this on top.

This curry has that special blend of I don't know how many spices.  The texture is about the same as Thai curry, but the spices are totally different.  This one is atypical of Japanese food, which I find to be bland.  The flavors are strong but not overpowering.  The katsu is crunchy with the right amount of crunch.

I'm trying to come up with compliments for this place, but the only thing that comes to mind is me drooling over the menu, almost liking the plate clean, and leaving fat and happy.

So, I only like reviewing places that are either really good or really bad, and Coco is one of the really good ones. Like, once-in-a-lifetime-kine good. So good some guy in Japan turned it into a PS2 game (I'm not kidding!).

Not being a fan of spicy foods in general, I didn't like curry at all until I tried their version of brown curry, which is utterly freakin delicious (and not spicy if you don't want it to be)...

Basically, if you didn't know already you choose a meat and/or vegetable dish (I like chicken, kalbi w/ a cream corn croquette which is quite possibly the best I've ever had), how much rice you want (from a lot to a humongous amount), and a spicy or mild curry.

The curry itself is a bold, unique and sweet flavor, which kinda tastes like candy. I could imagine using it on just about anything. I don't have the slightest clue as to what the hells in it but I do know it is one of the best tasting things I've encountered on Oahu.

The one downside is its not the kind of place you can go to everyday, in that a little bit goes a long way... Its kind of like Disneyland for your taste buds and stomach. For me it'd be overkill to go more than once a month.

Food coma heaven! I like my chicken katsu curry udon with egg, kimchi, and taco balls EXTRA spicy!!! omg. ... *drools*.. shabu shabu beef with spinach is also super duper delicious! yum!

The curry house in Honolulu tasted wayyy better than the ones in L.A. for some reason. The idea of being able to choose anything to add in my curry makes me want to giggle like a little girl..

Definitely try the a curry+cheese or curry+kimchi combination if you never had it. It's so freaking good!
