Wow! After arriving from a stuffy and boring "White Party" at Sens (BOO! Double BOO!), I was a cranky out of sorts ready to go home and hang out with my cat lady.
BUT oh wait - - - -Then Cockblock. The vibe here is so much fun! It is an instant party, great music, no pretentious jerks, lots of hot chicks, a few hot guys, only $7 to get in and decent drinks. I had a cosmo to accompany my very girly white dress and it was as good as any other cosmo.
I just love going places where people are happy, friendly and looking their best. You won't be disappointed - if it can get me out of my funk and make me spend at least 30 seconds on the dance floor, then it is definitely a winner.
I remember a time when DJs at Cockblock played more than just the 80s rock lezzie soundtrack. Hey there, Jessie's Girl..again..

I will always remember the good times I once had dancing on the speaker to music that had a beat. Le sigh.
The night started off horrible! The white girl, brown hair in a pony tail, stamping people at the front door was completely rude! I was showing my ID to the bouncer and my friend was waiting for me in the doorway when she overheard this girl say "this is cockblock! not doorblock!" WTH!? then once we got inside my friend had to use the restroom and so she walked into the girls bathroom. I walked inside the doorway because we were talking still and that same girl approached me and said "you can't be in the girls bathroom!" and when i appologized by saying "oh i know, i'm sorry!" she responded with "No, you don't know!" and walked away. What a horrible way to welcome people to the club! I don't know if she was irritated and thought we were wasted but i definitely was not. I was being nowhere near belligerent!
But that girl was an insignificant part of my night afterwards. I loved the music. i loved the energy. i had a great night! it was one of my better nights out in a long time! There were lots of hot girls for my friend to dance with! The music videos on the screen were hot! i don't know what to say. I would definitely go back i just hope not to run into that front door girl again! lol =)
UPDATE: i found out that the girl at the door was not part of their staff. She worked for the venue and because the intended person to be at the door had an emergency she was asked to fill in for the night.
Went to Cockblock last night for yet another amazing time. I don't know what's up with the haters giving bad reviews. If it's not your music scene, cool, find somewhere that is. Don't knock the party in your reviews. DJ Nuxx is always on point and brings several other great folks through. I enjoy the rickshaw because it's a great open space where you are able to dance on stage or watch the crowd from a second story balcony. The music is a little retro, a little hip-hop and some happy house/dance. And no, I don't like ALL the music ALL the time but that's cause I'm not sharing a brain with the DJ and hundreds of dancing women. If you want to like ALL the music ALL the time you should hang out at home and make yourself a playlist on your ipod. Whooooo!
I will be at the Halloween party at the Supper Club. And for tamster D., if you don't want to be crowded, drop the extra cash playa and buy VIP passes. No lines, great service and It was a great from where I was at on the balcony! Bottle service, sexy people and good times. Can't wait!

I've tried to give this venue several chances. I first went to CB on Gay Pride weekend June 2009 at the Supper Club, when these promoters rented a small space and oversold their tickets on pre-sale, limiting entry to the general public. The result of poor mis-management= long, slow moving lines just to retrieve your pre-sale tickets at will call, and a very rude staff at the Supper Club yelling at everyone to clear the street and go home at 11:00 PM if they didn't buy pre-sale tickets. For those who did get lucky enough to come across this over-rated club, the space was hot, overcrowded and uncomfortable. I attended this club at the Rickshaw in July, and although it was great to enter without the lines & the crowd was young and cute, the music was terrible. I will not return.
Went to cockblock with the wifey on valentine's night, after a 3 month hiatus. Yes, the lines to get a drink were long, the lines to the bathroom were long, and it got super crowded on the dance floor, but it's a dance club, it's to be expected. Deal with it.
And here's a hint for ladies that need to use the bathroom.
USE THE MEN'S BATHROOM!! there's never a line and peeing in a urinal is fun. ;-)

A. lose your keys while some hot anonymous girl pushes you into a seat and gives you a lap dance without asking for money afterward
B. shoot the shit with a group of out-of-town baby dykes and not have to pay for any drinks all night
C. run into your ex-gf, smoke a bowl with her for old time's sake, and not throw attitude your way

The Rickshaw's alright (the ease of parking is a huge plus), the girls were alright... the music was terrible. If bad hip-hop and the occasional Madonna song (I'm sorry, they couldn't even play the GOOD Madonna songs) is your kind of music, spend the $7.
Otherwise, save it for a dance party that actually plays dance music. I wish I could say more of it, but last night was a huge disappointment.
If you're a single lesbian in SF and looking for someplace to get drunk and dance with hot ladies...this is the place! The drinks are strong and cheap, which is a huge plus! Its crowded from 11:30 until 1ish and the girls are young and full of energy.
The music is so-so. They place very "top 40" like stuff. So if you like TRL or songs you hear 40 thousand times a day on the radio, you'll love it.
Unlike other bars and clubs, there is a wide variety of ladies. For those who like labels, there are an equal amount of "butch" to"femme". Coat check is 2 bucks, they have a few couches upstairs, and they have a smoking room for you smokers. The interior is alright, you'll usually find me under the air vents because it gets so damn hot in there!
Have fun, its super easy to meet people here!
came here for their pride after party and luckily i had purchased tickets in advance for my lady and i. unfortunately, i brought my fags along thinking they would be able to get in too.
we arrived and their was already a line of about 25 people out the door waiting to get in, with a man shouting "pre sale only!!! no other tickets left!!!" so my friends got panicky and feared they wouldn't get in. because we're so damn cool we made friends with a girl in line who offered us two tickets because she got VIP earlier. badass. after waiting in line for about 20 minutes, we finally got in.
what a gorgeous club. several different rooms with different music playing in each. the main room had a dj spinning 90s jams (which i am not a fan of, i would have preferred more contemporary dance/electro music) but thank god for the DJ in the white room with the small, bad ass dance floor spinning a LA riots remix of electric feel. the true sign of a cool DJ though - playing a request, and he totally filled it for my friends and i dancing wasted on his floor.
the bartenders were friendly and fast with the drinks. the drinks were very strong and worth every penny. the beds lined around the place were rather annoying, as i don't come to a club to take a nap or lay down, i come to dance. i was disappointed they didn't keep the party going for after hours as i was barely getting wasted by the time i got my last drink at 1:50.

Hella hot girls. Everywhere. Hella strong drinks. It's at the Rickshaw Stop 2nd Saturday every month, I think it's like $7 to get in. It's extremely strict with ID's though, so under-21 crowd will have tough luck. The crowd ranges from mostly early 20s-even sometimes the occasional 40s-50s, but it's usually a younger crowd.
There's a lot of femme and androgynous girls, some butch.
Something for everyone :) people are easy to get along with and dance with too. Dang...I got hella poonani last night hahaha.
cons: way too dark, smoky, and crowded. takes foooooorever to get a drink. death stairs. kinda grungy. cancer room upstairs. girls with no manners shoving their way through, elbows and all. just like in costco or an asian supermarket.

What an appropriate name! I always find myself at ladies night as I have a lot of lesbian friends which is generally pretty fun but on this particular evening I had come to Cockblock for the first time and I was alone, The Rickshaw stop can get pretty packed and as I moved through the throngs of L word wannabes to find my own group I noticed how aggressive the crowd was, When I move through a crowd I exhibit exemplary manners approaching people who are not facing me and putting my hand on the small of their backs and say "excuse me" in that persons ear and if I am facing them I make eye contact and mouth it. These girls, were elbowing me and generally being totally bitches, but what ever I needed a drink after that so I went to the bar and waited in line and when i got to the front I waited, money in hand, for a drink for 10 MINUTES, while the girls around me got served over and over and over. The only thing that was good was the DJ. Never again, If I can avoid it
I went. I brought girls. We partied. Hard.
BUT, the music... what is that sh!t? No no no no no.
